MEGA 865 Fan Control Problems using suspend/hibernate

I'm still having problems with the MEGA 865 CPU fan speed going to MAX after I come back from suspend or hibernate until a reboot of the system.
This is super annoying.
MSI tech support sent me a BIOS they thought might solve the problem... but it's OLDER than the one on the web site, PLUS it doesn't fix the problem
When will MSI look into this problem? When will a real fix be available? :(

MSI sent me an updated 1.1 BIOS which actually fixes this problem. Unfortunately when I now resume from hibernate or standby the computer is so slow I have to reboot it - sort of defeats the point don't you think!
As for a response from Tech support. Well I might aswell get some

  • MEGA 865 fan control problems after suspend/hibernate.

I'm seeing the CPU fan control problems, and it's REALLY ANNOYING, as it means I have to leave the machine on all the time. Specifically, after suspending or hibernating the machine, on wakeup the CPU fan goes to full speed and STAYS THERE until I reboot.
This is on a CLEAN INSTALL of Windows XP.
Is there going to be a fix for this from MSI soon? Because it's really ruining the experience of using the MEGA.

    Hi guys,
    I have builded a Mega 651 attaching a Celeron 2.4 Ghz.
I installed the cooler but I got really scared when I realised that the fan run for 2 secs and then stopped.
    Is this normal?
If yes then i am assuming that the voltage of the fan is controlled by a thermal sensor, meaning that the fan goes on when the temperature reaches a certain limit.
Can the threshold temperature be controlled from bios so I can set it to minimum possible?
    thanks in advance

  • Mega 865 Fan Control after standby

    Hi,
With the Mega 865 Bios in S3 mode, I am noticing that when XP SP1 resumes from Standby or Hibernate mode the fan stays on full power. Is anyone else noticing such a problem?

it would appear to be from the other thread i have read.

Mega 865 - HiFi Button problems.
    Hi,
I recently had some problems with the LCD display on the 865 and after
following the very technical (wiggle the power cable) instructions, i got
the LCD display working again, but now my HiFi button doesn't work
has anyone experienced this before ??
The radio/lcd display works fine in media centre
    cheers.

  • MEGA 865 Big Display problem

    Hi,
i get my new MEGA 865 last Week, but i have a big Problem with it, every time i unplug and plug the Power Cable, the Display on the front is off.
The only way to bring the Display back to live is to unplug and plug the Display Cable inside the Barebone from the mainboard. This cant be right, does everyone have the same Problem ??????
Please write, if you have the same problem or not.
    Thanks

The information came from MSI Tech support.
I also cannot believe that they sell a Multimedia PC with the MSI Media Suite package that just doesn't work. Any updates? No. Nothing. The MSI Media Suite is meant to be one of the reasons for it costing more than the other MEGA's.
Generally as a rule, I hardly ever install anything from the manufacturers CD supplied with a system. Half the time they are just rubbish apps/utils that I hardly use. I don't really care what speed my Processor/FSB is running at - it's running and it is not below its spec, that's fine by me. My first stop is always the web site for the most current drivers and utils that are necessary.
Obviously PC Alert4 is proving the exception here. It seems to me (I have no confirmation) that PC Alert as supplied on the CD, has API's / DLL's added to take care of the LCD display, and these have not been checked/thought of in a subsequent "standard" version.
I am also interested in seeing how I could control / program the LCD display. I seem to remember someone saying that WinXP Media Center can also change the LCD Display, this hints at either a special driver or an API in XP to get to its settings. I'll try dig a little deeper when I have a spare moment unless anyone already knows the answer.

  • Custom Hardware Fan Control - problem if speed pin not connected?

    Hi There,
I am planing to install a hardware fan control (poti) to my MacPro 1.1 rear fan. (because I have a defective northbridge temperature sensor and the fan is running at maximum speed... so i thought of slowing it down with a fan control for the pci slots)
I read that the pinning of the Fan is: Gnd, 12V, Speed, Control Pin (analog Voltage)
So when i would attach a fan control (just a poti) between some +5v and the Control Pin I think I should be able to control the fan manualy - am i right?
But then the speed signal is not the speed the mac pro fan control software think of... so would it be a problem e.g. if i disconnect the speed pin from the mainboard fan connector?
what would happen then? is the mac pro powering up the other fans for some kind of failsafe?
Or have you other suggestions how I can lower the speed of the rear fan manually?
    thanks in advance,
    Stefan

Take a look at the project some have undertaken to go with water block.
Send the motherboard in to have a 'skilled' electrician? repair the board perhaps.
4 fans, 3 under the control of SMCFAnControl utility. Maybe disable the one fan and make up for it with your own fan and running the others efficiently.
There are also VGA copper coolers.
FBDIMMs bleed heat: maybe the RAM fan cooler kit in there to deal with large source of heat. New higher density DIMMs are better made and few DIMMs = less heat even if 4GB.
Use ice packs, dry ice and liquid nitrogen to super cool :-)

  • MEGA 865 CD playback problem (in HiFi mode)

    Hi, fellow MEGA PC owners
I have a problem with playing my CDs on MEGA 865 in HiFi mode. It recognizes the CD, plays the first track or two, then stops playing, displays SEARCHING message for a ten seconds or so and then switches to NODISC. When I press Eject button on the box or remote, it switches back to SEARCHING and shows the number of tracks on CD.
The same problem is with the MP3 playback. It plays several MP3s ok and then switches to SEARCHING and NODISC.
Does anyone else has this problem? Any idea on what could be wrong? I checked all Slave/Master jumpers, all are ok, the cd drive is recognized by the BIOS.
    My configuration is:
MSI MEGA 865, P4 3.0 GHz Northwood, 1 Gb PC3200 RAM, NEC 2500A DVD burner.

    Hey JavaDuke!
I've got the exact same problem with my Mega180, also running a NEC 2500A! And it is starting to get very annoying...
I can play cd's for hours without any problems, when suddenly it stops in the middle of a track, displaying the NODISC message. Doesn't matter whether I use original cd's or copied ones, and the same disc can play through perfectly one day and halt several times the next. I've been thinking about replacing the NEC 2500 with something else but haven't got round to it as yet, however the post in the thread mentioned above states that different drives still produced the same error, so it's probably the bluebird chip that is faulty.
The mentioned thread doesn't really focus on our problem though as it mostly evolves around boot problems, so I don't see any problem with starting a new thread dedicated to this problem.
I might try the newer firmware, although there is no official word from MSI that this problem even exists, and I therefore doubt that it is solved. Not many people seem to have this particular problem either, or it appears so seldom that they choose to ignore it (as I have done for some time now).
Please report back if you solve this one!

  • P67A-G45 Fan Control Problem After BIOS Update

My old BIOS version was 1.8. I could control my fans in BIOS(50-75-100% RPM). Also SpeedFan tool was working perfectly, I could change fan speeds freely.
I just installed MSI Live Update and tool updated my BIOS version to 1.E(CPU-Z says v1.14) without any problem. But when I entered BIOS/Hardware Monitor I saw that fan control is disabled. Both sys fan 1 and sys fan 2 are stuck in %65. SpeedFan doesn't working too.
CPU Smart Fan is okay, works fine but system fans are uncontrollable now.

  • Fan control problem on Z77A-G45 Gaming

    Hi,
I've got this problem: I have Z77A-G45 gaming mobo and thermaltake water cooler (water 2.0 performer) on cpu and, by default this motherboard makes this cooler work with full 2000 rpm, but if I open the msi utility program "Control center" and go in "Green power" tab and use "CPU fan control" it makes cooler to run normally with 850 rpm. But problem is, when I turn off or restart PC, it starts again with 2000rpm and I need to open that "Control center" again and click check "Cpu fan control" to make cooler work normally. So what is solution to this problem? How to make it remember "cpu fan control" option marked? I don't want to start this application manually everytime I boot my computer.

Try entering bios and enable cpu smartfan and save on exit.

  • Mega 865 wireless network problem.

    Hi all,
New here and seeking a solution to a specific prob.
Have built a system from with a MSI Mega 865 Delux. P4 Chip, ATI all in wonder graphics/TV card, Maxstor 160 GB hDD.
System is specifically as a home entertainment/ video capture and record.
    Problem with wireless networking.
I have a wireless network with three PCs all with USR wireless cards and a usr 8054 router which actually does little but extend the rance of the network, Internet connection is through host computer on a single channel ISDN line.
When I connect to the network with my Mega 865 (XP TO XP) the connection is massivly slow, in fact pages on the net refuse to load it is that slow.
The 865 is causing the host compiter to drop its connection to the router for about 50 % of the time, I can see its icon flashing red as the connection is dropped and returning to green as it reconnects.
It sounds like an incompatibility issue some where but I can't find anyone else with the same problems.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks, Epirb.

To my knowledge, the SP2 caused trouble for Mega 865 if a certain type of P4 CPU was installed (Prescott?)
That was so because this sort of CPU requires some "alternative" microcode to be loaded into it upon startup.
One published workaround was to replace certain file in the SP2 package with its predecessor from SP1,
another (more solid, IMHO) - to upgrade the BIOS of PC so this revised microcode is loaded with BIOS. At this point in time, I believe, the revised Mega 865 BIOS is available as an official release.
You are right, the issue is only with certain processors; see also (this includes the m-soft workaround too)
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;885626
This revised bios is not available IMHO, one of our forum collegues managed to get a beta version of a new bios, which does the trick. If you need it give us a shout.

  • MOVED: G41TM-E43 Fan control problem

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=148792.0

Alright then. I am using a Core 2 Duo e6700 with a Cooler Master Vortex 752 (I also tried switching the fan with a Hyper TX3 fan, same result). The thermal compound is Arctic Ceramique. I am sure it is set properly. My computer case is wide open. Of course, most importantly, the temps of the processor cores: they are both idling at 26 Celsius as I set the fan speed manually to 1475 rpm 50% (lowered from 100%) using SpeedFan.
I think from the fact that for both me and Ionut310 clearing the CMOS temporarily solves the problem until next boot suggests they are closely related.
    I appreciate the quick response.

  • Cpu fan control problem

I hope maybe somebody here can help me out,  I dont know where else to try,  please be gentle with me, just a newbie!
I have a Medion 1918 desktop pc purchased in nov. 2004 and I was very happy with it until it quit working about 8 weeks ago.  The machine would not post,  and subsequently was returned for repair to the manufacturer.  Making a short story long,  it took almost 8 weeks to get it back in my hands and its just not the same as it was when it left here..
The motherboard was replaced with a ms-7041,  and all I can tell you is its a 865pe,  but I cant find any info or documentation on the msi site for this model.  I do not even know if this is the same board model that it replaced.
The problem is the computer now sounds like a 747 taking off,  I mean this thing is so loud now.  The fan spins at full speed all the time now,  whereas before it would throttle up or down depending on what the cpu was working on, or if it was just idling.  I have also noticed I dont have a "pc health status" when I go into the bios,  so I cant even tell what the cpu temps are or what the fan speeds are currently running at.
I probably will need to give more info,  but I dont know what else you guys might need to know to help me out.
If there is anyone who can help steer me in the right direction to rectifying this noise,  I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks Danny,  after much reading in these forums,  and other similar questions,  I had a feeling you were going to say that.
I realize now its an oem board and theres not much help from msi.  But I was hoping somebody might have some ideas why its so loud now and wont vary the rpm anymore like it did.  Also,  what about the pc health status?  Shouldnt there be one on a current cpu/mobo of this speed?
On the downside,  so far,  its not been too easy of a go with the folks at medions customer care,  which is why I was looking for other opinions here.
I just cant run this machine like this.  If I had a meter,  I would bet the noise is above 80decibels.  You cant even turn up the pc speakers loud enough to watch a dvd.  Medion tried to tell me they probably changed the fan, cuz its only a three pin connector,  and that the variable rpm fans are four pins and that this replacement mobo wouldnt connect to the old fan,  but it looks like the same fan got put back on to me, cuz its dirty and got some dust bunnies stuck in there.  So I dont know what or who to believe.
A few more questions to add to the pile...
What controls the variable fan speed on these p4's,  bios?
Is it unusual that there is no pc health in the bios settings?
Thats all I can think of right now,  I must shut this thing down for a couple hours cuz I'm going deaf and cant hear myself think.

  • Axis 700 - CPU Temp and Sys Fan Control Problems

I have just received an Axis 700 barebones. I ordered a 700 Lite with the fanless processor but I received a system with C7-D 1.5GHz processor and a system fan !. The heatsink looks the same as the Titan 700.
The BIOS and PC Alert report a CPU temp of 64C immediately on start-up rising to 70C at idle and 100C under heavy load. System temp is steady at aound 30C. I've measured the heatsink temp with thermometer and it's about half the value reported by PC Alert.
The system fan in the heatsink is running at full speed but BIOS and PC Alert reports 0 rpm. If I slow the fan almost to a stop with a piece of paper, I do get a fan speed of 1000-2000 rpm.
It feels like a BIOS problem but the MSI website only has a single version, v1.00. My board has version v1.1B4.
Does anybody have a similar experience?

It could be something wrong with the CPU FAN, else if you think that its BIOS issue you can ask MSI here: http://ocss.msi.com.tw/
