Mega PC 651 - no POST beep, no booting! another one!!

Mega PC 651 - no POST beep, no booting!
I have looked at the forum and seen several postings similar, but nothing I have read helps
The MEGA PC651 is built with the following
Intel Pentium 4 2.4ghz 533mhz SKT478  1mg cache Retail Boxed Processor
Maxtor 6Y080L0 Plus 9  80GB 7200rpm UDMA133
DVD Samsung 52x32x52x16x Int IDE Combo
RAM Ebuyer 256MB DDR333 PC2700 Extra Value Ram (x two)
Not sure if the P4 processor is compatible, it has 1MB of cache. does that make it a Prescott, I can't seem to find out. the tag on the box reads BX80546PE2400ESL7YP
I do not get any POST beep,  the cpu fan or the HDD does not run when I push the  PC power button, in fact the only thing that starts is the power suply fan. The Hi-Fi Part works fine. I can't shut shut down the PC-part with the power switch, have to unplug the cable.
Is the problem the processor or the mother board
Tried clearing the CMOS but no change
Thanks in advance

A Celeron 320 is a Celeron D, as far as I know and so it is also not supported.
Have a look at the official MSI Mega Pc page and you'll find a cpu-support list

  • Mega PC 651 - no POST beep, no booting!

Well, I just read a lot of postings but did not really found a solution to my problem. There are  a few similiar postings but they are often not really the same. So here it comes. Sorry if I repeat anything.
Well I built up this Barebone with the following components:
    Intel Pentium IV - Northwood - 2,4 GHz; 512kb Cache; 533 Mhz (133FSB)
Maxtor IDE HDD - 160 GB
    DVD MSI 16x ...?
RAM 512MB 2700 Infinion (1 module, no crap! - inner slot)
I do not get any POST beep, neither the cpu fan nor the HDD starts to run wenn pushing the power button. The Hi-Fi Part works. I can't shut shut down the PC-part with the power switch, hust by unplugging the cable.
I should not have the wrong CPU, and I installed it carefully. I am really somehow experiences so I don't think it's that, if it has not been delievered already dead.
The RAM module was installed at the inner bank. I have to admit that I did not test it at the other bank, I am not at home now but I will test it.
Does it make sense to clear the CMOS even if I did not boot any time, beacause it doesn't work ?
    thanks for all replies

  • MEGA PC 651 BOOTING/BIOS/HEATSINK PROBLEM

From this thread topic it seems really general but heres the deal...
I was recording some music with it and video editing the other night and the monitor went blank but the PC was still on.I rebooted and the PC started beeping with one long continuous beep.
From what i've found looking on here it seems to mean the RAM is faulty but i have managed to reboot for a while before experiencing the same problem which i'm guessing wouldnt be possible without any RAM
I opened up the case to inspect and noticed the heatsink clamps are broken which obviously isn't good because it means the CPU isn't being cooled as well as it could be but i have managed to sit the heatsink on the CPU with the thermal compound keeping it in place.I have emailed MSI to get some spare clamps but i'm not sure this will solve the problem.
As i have said tho i have managed to reboot the machine and work on it and then it shuts off again
The HDD light stays on when everything is powered up.Sometimes i get the continuous beep, sometimes i don't and sometimes it boots up like nothing is wrong.
Is it because the CPU is getting too hot? Or is it something else like the BIOS, the CPU or the mainboard itself?
Also...some segments are missing from the LCD display causing characters to not display properly - do i need to get a new LCD screen or can i rectify it with software or something?
    Please help me
    Thanks

I found someone had posted about getting spare clamps on here and they were successful in getting some from MSI
I just copied and pasted the email this user had sent to MSI to get them and they sent me some
The machine has been working again but is a really troublesome system
I still have trouble with the MEGA PC 651 - even getting it to boot even tho i had installed a new HDD and installed a fresh copy of XP
    It's just problem after problem

  • MEGA PC 651 and 1 gig of RAM

Hi Guys, I have a MEGA 651, cele 2.6 gig and i HAD 1 gig of ram in there... but after doing my usual tasks in XP, it would just reboot! as anyone had this problem? i take out 1 stick of 512 and it runs fine.  I think this may be an over heating problem because i noticed that extra stick of 512 generates quite a bit of heat.  Could it be a problem with the mobo handling 512 or ram as well?  If anyone has any info this would be great
    Thanks

    Thanks alot for your response..
Hmm i know its not the ram, its been tested in another system and its fine.. So it might be the power supply huh? how can this be resolved? i heard the mega PC 651 was released in 2 models.. 1 with a higher voltage power supply, i guess mine is the lower of the 2 released, if so..do i have to replace the power supply?

  • Problems with Mega PC 651

    Hi!!
I recently bought a MSI Mega PC 651 and equipped it with
CPU: Intel P IV 2.8 GHZ
RAM: 512 MB Kingston DDR 400
    HD: 120 GB Maxtor 6Y120P0
    DVD-RW: LG DVDRW 4040B
TV-Card: TV@nywhere Master especially for Mega PC
BIOS v1.1, radio firmware v66 (after flash newest available)
    I have several problems:
    1. When I press the eject button on the Mega PC the DVD-RW (LG DVDRW 4040B) ejects, but when I press it again, it won’t close – it immediately ejects.
    2. At the first start after booting in windows the TV-Software (msipvs v2.0.34.198) crashes to desktop without a error code when I press the time shift button. After a second start it works without crashing…
    3. I updatet bios to v1.1 and radio firmware to v66 (the newest ones). When flashing the radio firmware I was prompted to enter a new welcome message with 7 characters. I only was able to enter 3 characters which ended up with a unwanted welcome message. When starting the flash utility a second time I wasn’t prompted to enter a message. Is there a little utility or another possibility to re-enter a welcome message?
    Has anybody similar problems??
    Please help me!!

After flashing the radio receiver's firmware to latest I also stumbled into same problem. Now when I turn it on it says only "W     -" instead of "Welcome".
I'm trying as hard as possible to fix this problem, but Radio WebUpdate won't let me flash the firmware anymore because it has already been flashed to latest.
Now I'm downloading the latest radio receiver program and am hoping that I also get this Greeting program which can be used to change the normal greeting text!
Last version of radio receiver program didn't have Greeting program so if anyone of you guys have it I'd be more then happy to receive it!
You can send it directly to: [email protected]
It's nice to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem. Now I think I might even find a solution to the problem.

  • Problem with Mega PC 651

    Hi to all.
First of all I'm sorry for my English. I don't speak it very well cause I'm Italian.
I've purchased a MSI Mega PC 651 and I want to install my P4 2.8Ghz Northwood. The PC start correctly, but the bios post screen show that this processor is a P4 1.86Ghz and the multiplier is set to 14x. If I try to change it to 21x after I'm exiting from bios saving the settings, the multiplier is always 14x! Why!?
Microsoft windows XP SP2 and CPUz shows the correctly 2.8Ghz, but now I'm not sure that I'm using the full performances of 2.8Ghz or not...
Another question. I've downloaded the MSI Media Center Deluxe III but during the install it request a serial number. Where I can find/request it?
Thanks for all and sorry again for my English.

  • Notebook beeps while booting up

After a clean up by tech expert who removed messenger (duplicate) from msconfig and one thing from start up menu,
I installed the latest windows updates. First restart was fine.
Next time I rebooted and heard two beeps after I saw the desktop icons. Rebooted.
Heard one beep. Still hear that beep. Google suggests one beep is normal but I'm not used to beeps.
Old laptop but upgraded with six month old hard disc and drivers by toshiba experts.
Had AVG. Installed microsoft essentials after beep (made no difference).
Am I in trouble or is this fine? Programmes work well. (Famous last words?)

    Hi
Notebook beeps while booting because it runs the POST (power on self test)
This is a usual procedure and nothing unusual.
If you mean this beeps then you should not be worried about that this is ok

  • MSI pro post beep

I am used to a normal POST beep being one short beep, and all is well.  Everything on my MSI pro seems to work fine, everything boots, and no errors occur, but the POST beep is rather weird.  I will try my best to describe it: Short high, short low, short pause, short high, short low.  The last 2 beeps occur a lot quicker than the first two.  Is that normal?  I figured it should just be one short beep. Thanks

  • K7N2G-ILSR no POST beeps or diag led

    Hi,
I hope some of you experts can take the time to help me. I did a search and came up empty. I was bumping my FSB up tonight after installing some Kingston PC2700 2x512 sticks, trying to get my 2100+ Tbred a bit faster. I was doing fine with mem 1:1 and incremental FSB steps. I ws at 163 FSB, and when I set 164 FSB, and F10 to save, it seemed to lock up, not responding to keyboard with the "save and exit Y" window staring at me. I powered it off, but when I restarted it it did not boot or even do a POST beep. Just black screen and spinning up fans and hard drives. The diag bracket lights do not light up at all. I set the J10 and J11 to 100/133 user and 100 open, rebooted, and nada. I then unplugged, held power button for 30 sec., and set clear jumper. Set clear jumper back after a minute, plugged in power, and booted. Still the same, no POST beep and black screen. Did I ruin this board? How can I fix this? Any help would be appreciated, as I do not want to throw out this MB and buy a new one for what is probably a stupidly easy fix.
Put older, original memory back in, unplugged again, jumpered jbat1 again after power button hold, set jbat1 to normal, then popped CMOS battery, and still no damn LED lights or POST check being attempted on power up.
I posted over at nforcershq, and here, hoping to find someone with an answer for me. I am at a loss and am not sure where to go next. Please help!

    Richard,
First let me thank you for lending a hand. That in itself helps a lot.
I had allready replaced the new Kingston with the original DDR266/PC2100 2x256 Infinion(?) memory which I have run for the past year without issues, but did not make that clear enough in my initial post (sorry). I followed your suggestions, and removed the battery and plug out for 15 minutes, then put them back in, set the jbat1 to clear for 15 seconds for good measure and back to normal, powered it up, and nothing. No beep, no led diag lights at all. I then removed one stick of the original 256MB sticks at a time, powering up after each stick removal, and no change.
I think one of the keys to all this was the original hang at the BIOS save Y/N? screen, and my power down in that hung state. The lack of LED indicators makes me very worried. Any other suggestions?

  • Operating system not found; clues in POST beep sequence?

Hello, I have a Pavilion dv9000 (specifically dv9207us), BIOS version F.16, running on Windows Vista.   With no apparent cause it now stops booting up with the message "Operating system not found."  I can get into the BIOS setup but the "Primary Hard Disk Self Test" option shows "Diagnostics not supported".  I've also tried pressing F11 during bootup, as I found information that there could be a recovery function this would trigger, with no result.  The hard drive is a Western Digital Scorpio (WD1200BEVS).
I know the immediate answer is that the drive is fried, but of course am trying to make sure before giving up, and one unusual event that takes place on start-up, immediately after pressing the power button, is a series of five double beeps.  There's a lower-toned beep followed by a slightly shorter higher-toned one, and that repeats for a total of five -- sounds a little like an English police car, maybe.  If you listen very closely, the first, lower-toned beep actually may be two beeps followed by the higher pitched one; "da-da dee".  I expect there's information content in that, but have not been able to find any guide to POST beep sequences or the like.  Any guidance would be appreciated.
Also, it apparently can access a thumb drive during start-up, as when I attached one I could see the thumb drive LED going active for several seconds, so I'm also wondering if I can load anything into the thumb drive that would help.  Naturally, this is the only computer in the house on Vista, however.  Thanks.

  • 3 short beeps on boot up

3 short beeps on boot up

    Hi James,
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.
If this is a G5 PowerMac & you're sure the RAM is good, try the Hair Dryer trick...

  • K9N NEO V3 POST Beep Issue

Hello, and thanks in advance for taking the time to give this a look. (TL;DR below)
As stated in the topic title, I’ve been having issues with my PC involving POST beep codes.
Couple days ago, PC stopped displaying on monitor. A few on/off’s later, I realized the PC was beeping oddly. I looked up POST codes online, but I’m not entirely sure which set to use. I have no display to check for my motherboard BIOS and version, so I am at the moment using what is written on the actual mobo; AMI BIOS. I can hear a single beep, followed by about 8 shorter beeps. There is a noticeable difference between the first and the rest. I have already run the computer without the optical drive, harddrive, and graphics card and still found the same problem. With just the mobo and CPU, I hear nothing, but that’s because I assume my mobo will not POST without RAM, so I tried a single stick new replacement to test with and I am still getting the same POST beeps as before. I have also tried reseating my graphics card and the small round cell found on my mobo. Is there anything that I’ve missed? Or is there something else at the root of the problem.
TL;DR: My computer will not display on a monitor, and I am getting the beeps associated with POST problems. Have tried running without essential hardware and separate memory stick to no success. Unsure of how to proceed.
    Here are my current specs:
    MSI K9N NEO V3 / MS-7369
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor @ 2.6 GHz
    OCZ Gold XTC Dual Channel PC26400 DDR2 800MHz 1GB x2 (5-5-5-12)
    XFX 8600 GT XXX Edition 256 MB DDR3 PCI-E
    WD Caviar Blue 160GB 7200RPM 8MB SATA (WD1600AAJS)
Apevia X-Infinity Case with Turbolink PSU (420W)
    Windows XP (32bit) SP3
I’ve narrowed down my problem to either the mobo or the cpu, but that’s about it.
I appreciate your help, and if there’s something that needs to be clarified, just let me know.
I apologize if this is in the wrong section or if there’s a format problem with my post.

I figure this is the best place to ask, since its related to my issues and doesn't need another topic.
I'm looking at this Corsair 750W PSU, but the only thing I'm wondering about is lack of a P4 MB connector. I'm not entirely sure what it's used for? I'm pretty green when it comes to installing and hooking up PSUs, so I've been comparing the connectors just to make sure I don't buy a product that won't hook up to my system. Also, is there a default size? Like motherboards come with the ATX or micro-ATX form. I'd hate to buy it and find out that it won't fit in my case
    First choice
    Second choice
    Third choice
I noticed a lot of the PSU have multiple 18A / 12 V rails as opposed to a single 12V rail with higher amps. Are those maximum values? Or will it increase as you decrease the number of 12V rails being used. Sorry for the questions, but I figure I might as well ask now while I can
