MEGA PC cd drive not ejecting

When in HIFI mode, the cd will not eject using either the eject button on the case or the remote.  In PC mode, the eject button on the case woks fine.
HELP!!

Hi
I dont know what the problem could be but, if you are realy stuck you could manually lower the cd silver flap and press the eject buttion on the cd drive itself.
That should still work.

  • Firewire Drive Not Ejecting

Yes, I've got one of those FW drives not ejecting, with the "close all applications..." message...
Running 'lsof /Volumes/FWDrive' in terminal shows NO open files.
Disk Utility refuses to 'Repair Disk' because it cannot unmount it.
I can't think what would be causing this without anything showing up in lsof command.
Any ideas about possible 'causes' for it not ejecting? It can be ejected by shutting down computer but it would be nice to find the underlying cause.
    -david

Either an open file or a symbolic link. See my Apr 19 post WRT to determining why a volume won't unmount in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=920333. Strange that lsof didn't show Finder->.Trashes.

  • External hard drive not ejected properly?

    Hi.
I've just bought a 1 Tb Hitachi external hard drive, to use for Time machine back up.
It's connected using the supplied USB 2 cable.
It installed OK but whenever my mac goes to sleep and I reawaken it, the message appears that the disk was not ejected properly and that next time I should go to finder etc etc.
Could I be damaging the data on the drive? Maybe even - Heaven forbid - lose it?
    Thanks

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Yes, an improper disconnect can damage the directory structure on the disk. Do a +*Repair Disk+* per #A5 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
I'd start by checking with Hitachi's web site: see if there are updated drivers and/or firmware for Snow Leopard. Even though you just bought it, it may have been in stock somewhere for a while and not have the latest goodies.
Also see if there's an automatic sleep or "spin down" feature on the drive that you can adjust or disable.

  • USB Drive not Ejecting

I have 2 WD hard drives and at time (intermittent) they will not eject and have to reboot then they will eject. No disk error on either. Is there a preference to set to get this to work right all the time (EJECT) when you want it to?
    thanks

I have the same problem. I will mount the drive and double click it to open it. It comes up with a finder window that is empty. When I close the window and try to eject the drive it reports it is busy. Finder will sometimes hang and I have to sometimes hard power off the computer to recover. I have an 8 gb sandisk crzr

  • OT: Thunderbolt drive not ejected properly error message

Hello all: I've got a MBPro 17 and a less than a month old LaCie 2T Rugged Thunderbolt/USB3.0 drive that I've started using. The drive randomly ejects itself and of course at the worst times. It could either be in use or nothing going and it just ejects.
I've replaced the drive once at the Apple Store, but I think it's the OSX or ???  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tolbert

this may be an issue with my USB hub...its USB 3.0 with two "extra" powered all the time....one HD is just a normal non powred travel drive (seagate) and had a FIT with the powered port just now.  I have moved ALL external drives to the "normal" spots on the hub and see if its just the hub acting up

  • Lacie d2 drive not ejecting disc

I have an odd problem with my Lacie d2 drive, when I put in a disc, any type of disc ...
It seems as if the mechanical eject button on the face of the lacie is disabled forcing me to use
my disc utility to eject the mounted disc.
This is a new drive and I'm just not sure if this is something common for externals on Imacs.
I checked out Lacie's website to see if maybe there was a firmware up-date but, all I could see was
"*+This update is compatible with OS X 10.3.9 thru 10.5.2, for both Intel and PPC based Macs+*"
I'm wondering if maybe I should exchange it or not, is anybody else having this same problem ?
    Thanks
    James

Just to reinforce what inandoutofgrace said, I too, have an older LaCie D2 external optical drive and yes, the eject button on the enclosure does not usually eject the disks as expected. Nor will the eject key on the Mac's keyboard. Whenever I've used that burner, I've had to drag the disk's icon to the trash to get it to eject . . . which it always does when done that way. Other than that, the burner has worked fairly well most of the time. And yes, the descriptions of the updates on the LaCie website are a bit hard to decipher.
One day in the near future I will probably get another external burner because of my experiences with LaCie and it won't be one of theirs. I will most likely go with one from OWC (Other World Computing) which is an online Mac peripheral and RAM vendor. I've used several of their products (RAM and external hard drives) over the years and have never had the slightest issue with any of them. They are all just ticking along. When the time comes to replace the LaCie, I'll just see what they have to offer in the way burners.

  • DVD drive not ejecting discs

MacBook Pro UniBody with MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868
I have to eject a CD or DVD 10 or 20 times. It makes the eject noise then the disc doesn't come out and it gets remounted again. After 10 or 20 goes suddenly one time it comes all the way out.
Any clues - is this a hardware fault?
    cheers

  • Help! 2nd optical drive not ejecting; drive tray stuck!

I have just installed a LITE-ON DVDRW SHM-165P6S drive in the second bay. I have removed the front tray panel, but when trying to eject from the drive, the tray fouls the case opening, and will not open fully. Only after some vigorous pulling upward on the tray, will it then open fully. This is not ideal, as the flimsy plastic won't take much of that kind of abuse. It seems that Apple have not made enuogh allowances for slight differences in design of dvd drives, or have I done something wrong? Is this just a case of incompatible design; should I try another burner, or is it a problem with the Mac Pro?
Seems that Apple could've made the bay openings a little bigger, to avoid this problem. Why didn't they? Most annoying.
Anyone else experienced any problems? Anyone got any ideas?

This Pioneer of which you speak, it seems to be the drive to go for, from what I've read. I just tried the Liote-On, to see if it's any quieter than the Sony unit (It is; it couldn't be any louder!), but the tray seems to be a bit too low for the bay door. Oh well. I had the Lite-On lying around spare, so I'm not too annoyed. I'll try the Pioneer that you mention, thanks. Is it a lot quieter? Trying to watch a dvd at night, the Sony drive is so loud, I have to have the volume up higher than I want to; it's going through a hi-fi, so does get a bit noisy.
Thanks mate. I'll swap the drive for the Pioneer, and see hoe it goes.
    Happpy New Year!

  • External Disk Drive not ejecting

I have a MacBook Air which doesn't have a disk drive built in so I bought an external one. I put a DVD in it, it all worked perfectly normal, once finishing the DVD I shut down the computer like I would normal but I forgot to eject the disk.  Its never been a problem before but now it wont eject the disk thats in there. It makes sounds that its going to but it doesn't, still plays the disk thats in there as well. Someone please help me fix this problem!

    Props to Kappy.
Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • External drives not ejecting properly

I'm using my macbook as a desktop system and a portable - I'm running two drives off of a powered USB 2.0 hub when it's set up at home. I eject the drives properly, but when I wake the machine up I get device removal errors. Wondering if there's an issue with running the drives off a hub or if anyone has had this issue running an external drive straight off the ports in the macbook.

Worked with the nice folks at my local genius bar... there was issue with the way the drive powers itself that was causing it to re-mount, thus the error. If you're having this problem either shut down your system completely before you disconnect or disconnect immediately after you unmount the drive.

  • External harddrive error - not ejected properly

I bought a new 1.5TB Seagate Free Agent (ST315005FDM201-RK) drive and connected it to my iMac running Snow Leopard. I'm using it as a Time Machine drive
Every few minutes I get the "Drive not ejected properly" error dialog. The drive is still accessable - I think it reconnects itself.
But literally, every couple of minutes I get the error. Any ideas?

i too bought this HDD. Actually i bought two. One for my lady and one for me. i had purchased a seagate 2.5" portable and it did this too. i just bought a better cable for it and that fixed the problem. but on this 1tb im having the same problem only this time, a better cable isnt doing the trick... funny, both are connected to my 17" Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.2, but hers doesnt drop like mine does. So i too would like a solution, but ill give a few bits of info to see if anyone one else can help us. Hers is MS DOS formatted so she can share with her work computer... could that be a reason her doesnt randomly disconnect? Also, when its in constant use(rendering, or transferring large data) it never drops out. and last, mine has 2 partitions, both formatted the same, but there are two partitions... could that maybe be a cause? thanks for any help!

  • I am getting error message "Disk Not Ejected Properly Eject "FreeAgent GoFlex Drive" before disconnecting or turning it-" randomly.

I'm getting a "Disk Not Ejected Properly  Eject “FreeAgent GoFlex Drive” before disconnecting or turning it…" message at random times.  I have seen other comments about this happening after the iMac wakes from sleep.  However, this is happening to me throughout the day even when I am working on the iMac.
The iMac is up to date with OS X Version 10.9.  I had recently switched from a 500GB to a 3TB Drive, both are Seagate.  I have never had this issue prior to the switch.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I verified/repaired in the Utility Disk and a message popped up indicating the GoFlex looks "OK".

No, I am not on the USB3 interface.  I contacted Seagate and they indicated that there is no known issue with OS X 10.9.  In my case, they are willing to send me a new Drive, since I just received the GoFlex on 12/06. Will post an update when I install the new one.  Hopefully this will solve my issue.
I suggest you contact Seagate, if you haven't already, directly.  The representatives are very helpful.  Good luck.

  • Hello my name is Tyesha Woods, and I have a problem with my dvd hard drive, it will not eject my cd no matter what i do can you please help me?

Hello, my name is Tyesha Woods I onw a Macbook and my dvd hard drive will not ejected my cd ,I have tryed everthing I could would you please help me?

    Hi Tyesha,
    Your DVD won't eject?
Restart the MacBook - as it is restarting, hold the trackpad button down. This will force it to eject. The disk should eject before you get to the login screen or desktop.

  • My iMac is disconnecting all my media hard drives and giving "Disk Not Ejected Properly" message since updating to OSX 10.9

Ever since I updated to OSX version 10.9 on my iMac, it is disconnecting all of my media hard drives and giving me the message: "Disk Not Ejected Properly." My hard drives are connected to my iMac through a Nitro Professional 8-port Firewire 800 hub/repeater, and a Firewire 800 cable from the Nitro hub connects to the back of my iMac. This configuration has been working fine for over a year. Suddenly, and immediately after performing the update about a week ago, the drives won't stay connected for more than a few seconds before the iMac disconnects from my drives. I've tried restarting and reconnecting many times and the same thing keeps happening.
I have a new MacBook Pro (one month old) that I've been using temporarily to work with my photos and video on these drives as the drives are able to stay connected to this computer—I put a Thunderbolt adapter onto the Firewire 800 cable to connect to it. Luckily I had not yet updated it to the new operating system and I am afraid to do that. I've had the persistent message that Updates are available for my computer on my MacBook but I will not perform any updates for fear that I will lose access to my media drives. I am a professional photographer, so it's pretty disasterous if I can't access my drives. Please advise me what to do to keep my hard discs connected to my iMac and what to do to keep this from happening with my MacBook.
Thanks in advance for your knowledge and assistance!

  • My granddaughter put the Start Up Disk in the drive inadvertently and now the drive will not eject it or start up using the HD.  I have tried all of the suggestions for opening it that appear in the manual.  Help?

My granddaughter put the Start Up Disk in the drive inadvertently and now the drive will not eject it or start up using the HD.  I have tried all of the suggestions for opening it that appear in the manual.  Help?  It is her computer, a iMac G3 or G4 with superdrive, the one with the ball shaped base.   Thank you.

It's a tray loading drive, there should be a little hole next to it, just large enough for a paper clip.  Stick the end of the paper clip in it and the tray should open.
