Mega pc series

I been told that Dr Stu knows more then most others  But all information will bring me much joy
I would like information on the total of the mega pcs  like the video on the Motherboard are what is called UMA memory this I know but how much on the system memory does it use,  64mb 128 256 or what.  Is there pictures of the inner part of the system.  Does any of the mother boards have TV on board.  Ive been reading on the total mega  systems and have not understood what can by added on board, weather I could have DMI on board.  By what I have read the barebone is the mother board, case and no more or do you add the other conponents what are the liminties of the hd, DVD-cd RW

The difference between a plain Mega 180 and a "deluxe" was supposed to be the card reader and the 802.11b wifi mini-PCI card. However, I've never seen the plain model, as far as I know only "deluxe" models are sold.
For pictures of the inside of a Mega 180 have a look at here and here
Notice that with a HDD and an optical drive installed the only space left is at the side of the expansion slots (AGP and PCI slot). With a completely filled system you can only add small fans. You can gain a bit more space by removing the metal 3,5" bracket surrounding the internal card reader which is of no obvious use (unless you want to replace the card reader by an additional harddrive).
Regarding your last remark about all components from the same manufacturer, MSI doesn't sell memory, HDD and processors. And some MSI optical drives are known to cause some trouble. I assume you have read the sticky about the optical drive compatibility list.
Another (personal) remark, beware that there is no "original" way to power-on the PC part of a Mega 180 by remote, only the hifi-part can.
JaDi.

  • Which is better, the Hip-E, or the Mega PC Series?

A new computer was released last week that takes aim directly at kids.  It's called the Hip-E, and you can check it out here:  http://www.hip-e.com
So, the question is, which do you like better the Mega PC or the Hip-E.  (assuming both work perfectly per specificaions)

The specs for the Hip-E are here:  HIP-E Specifications
And here is a link for the video card, looks like it's an ATI 9700:  M11 Video Card
In regards to price, don't forget that Hip-E is shipping with a LCD based monitor, which isn't cheap.  Not that I'm advocating it, personally I don't like the design of the Hip-E.

  • Mega TV Tuner

whilst doing some online shopping earlier, i noticed that http://www.dabs.com now sell the Mega TV Tuner for the Mega PC series barebones, might be of use to UK users as this is the first time i have seen these cards available in the UK
    http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/hardware/multimediaandspeakers/productView.htm?quicklinx=334V
they also now supply the optional TV-out card too:

Whats the recording quality like and would you recommend one??
I was thinking of getting a basic card, only really need to receive a simple TV input since a lot of the connectivity is repeated on the back of the 180.
One more question.... do you know if the card works with the MEGA remotes? I really dont want another one cluttering up the living room!!!!!!

  • How to remove cpu/heatsink from Mega PC 651?

I'm looking for detailed instructions on how to remove the cpu/heatsink from a MSI Mega PC 651. So far the manual has been useless and the Quick install guide isn't even about the MEGA PC series. Can anyone supply detailed step-by-step instructions on how to remove the cpu/heatsink safely?
    Lewis

    Hi Lewis,
I presume you are refering to this guide?
    http://www.msi.com.tw/html/support/manual/note/quick_installation.pdf
I don't think there are any better instructions, other than what you might get with the CPU. Here's some breif comments that may or may not help though:
Get an anti static strap and attach it to earth, (ie I leave my main PC plugged in and attach to it's chassis, when working on another PC)
Your CPU may be attached to the heatsink with thermal paste, if it is be very careful
On my 865 the CPU heatsink is screwed to the motherboard, it may also be held on with levers. Disconnect it as appropriate
Once the heatsink is loose gently remove it, you may need to lift one side first or it may lift the whole CPU out
Once the heatsink is out lift the CPU lever, the CPU will easily lift out
you may wish to remove the old thermal paste from the CPU and heatsink, I use ArctiClean 1+2 check your CPU supplier for options
put the CPU straight into an antistatic bag
Only when you are finished playing with your PC insides should you take off the antistatic strap
If you are still unhappy with these instructions try checking out the Intel or AMD website for help
    Hope this helps
    cheers

      thanks, I'll try it

Have a look to this thread and give it a try.
Take care with temps. After unplugging the sys fan, check your temps immediately and for a long time. Make some tests to ensure this fan is not needed in your Mega.
Another solution should be adding a resistor (from 20 to 80 Ohms) to low the revs.

Hi guys, thanks for all the responses.
Okay, I got some good news and bad.
Good news is I tried playing with the Memory (btw, it was Mushkin, not Corsair, my bad) I got it to run fine, for about 4 hours playing two different movies and doing other stuff in the background, just to stress it out and it did great. So I decided, just so I would know, to put the one stick of Memory back in, it didn't boot so I put the other one back in, the one I thought was good, the one that was in there when I ran those movies for like four hours.
Bad news, now it boots okay, but the POST/BIOS screen flashes super fast, then the Windows screen comes up, the blue bar scrolls across fine, like it should, but when it goes to load the desktop, I loose my video signal (the light on the monitor goes from greem to orange)
I'm thinking Windows is loading fine because the Caps Lock light is responsive on the keyboard and the LED on the 180 reads like it usually does, basically everything seems to be fine, but I loose my video signal.
I've of course tried differnt types of memory, I've reset CMOS and reset the battery, but nothing.
    Now what?
I can't figure out why Windows is loading but I loose my Video signal.
    Thanks again.

  • New Socket754 Mega PC imminent?

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=98220
saw this tonight whilst browsing through Ebuyer.com here in UK (bloody cheap too)
the Mega MPC series are the sister companions to the regular Mega PC, the main difference being the lack of hifi / InstantOn features
looking on MSI's site, i notice there is also an MPC 915 for Intel S775 P4 CPUs
so can we assume that some new Mega PCs are imminent from MSI, based on the 800K and 915?

I've seen it before.. but if I was going to go small form factor with lots of power crammed into the little box, I would have to stick with the Iwill ZMAXd2.. it has dual Opteron and SLi.. very very fast. Nothing against MSI or anything, but this Iwill SFF machine owns all..

  • TV-Out in MEGAPC-180

    Hello,
I am writing you from Zaragoza (Spain). I've bought a MEGA PC Series (Model 180) trhee weeks ago.
I've installed WXP with SP1 and SP2 and all the utilities and drivers stored in your MEGAPC-CD. I have no problem with any driver: DDR-RAM, DVD, HD and processor (AMD 2800+), but I have missed days trying obtain signal from S-Video TV-Out's matherboard, and i have no image yet. (Nvidia's Software is installed too and I have no dubts with it, because I have experience with this drivers and software)
I've read the user's manual, and I've marked the TV-Out like PAL in the motherboard's configuration, but I have not image yet.
I didn't find anything about it in your webpage, and I bought your MEGAPC for connecting it to the TV, for using it like multimedia center. That's ver important for me, could you help me to activate the TV-Out's matherboard? where's the problem?
Thank you and I wait for your answer,
    --Translation-----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hola,
    Gracias y espero vuestra respuesta.

    Hi!!
For Spain, you have to select PAL B/G. There're some resolutions allowed; since 640x480 upto 1024x768. I usually choose 800x600 and, for games, 1024x768.
Consider what Stu said; does your TV accept s-video input?
Are you connecting it to the right connector or scart? Does your TV work fine with any other PC TV-out?
In addition, can you see anything at the boot sequence? (MSI logo, POST messages, Windows logo etc.)
If you cannot see anything during the booting up, maybe your TV doesn't accept s-video, or the cable isn't good enough, or your motherboard is not properly configured (you must only select PAL B/G, any other settings are unrelated with TV-out), or ) your tv-out is faulty (improbable, IMHO)
Let us know the answer to these questions.
    Good luck and regards!!

Before posting in this forum, I urge you to read though GlennVidia's sticky post Suggestions on posting and getting better answers and also hpkuo's A collection of tips and tricks
also to new users, please create a signature in the User Control Panel listing your system specifications.
too many people are posting questions like "MSIPVS don't work, please help" but if you don't tell us what your system is, its like asking your GP to diagnose medical problems over the phone - ie, guesswork!! also it helps if you give us your location, ie Seattle, USA; Norwich, UK; Kabul, Afghanistan; for local TV issues.
any users with the MS8606 TV@nywhere Master should first try the Unofficial BETA drivers for this product listed in my sticky at the top of this forum, looking through the release notes for this, it fixes many problems that users have posted about.
plus make sure all your system and vga drivers are up-to-date, here are some links:

For ATI chipset and display drivers:

For Intel chipset and display drivers:
    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/support_intel.asp?iid=HPAGE+header_support_download
    Installation of MSIPVS:
Download and install the latest drivers for your MSI TV Tuner (either from MSI or the BETA drivers if you are using TV@nywhere Master). After installing the drivers, please RESTART your PC (the installer won't prompt you to do this) BEFORE you install the MSIPVS or MediaCentre III software.
MSIPVS (or other InterVideo software) won't work if Windows has been installed to a partition other than C:, Mega PC users should disable the card reader by either unplugging it from the motherboard, or temporarily disabling the USB controller in BIOS before installing Windows to ensure it sees drive C: as default installation drive.
This should avoid any "antenna & afghanistan" default configurations in MSIPVS, but please ensure your correct region and TV standard settings are selected, and the correct cable / antenna connection is selected.

Users using a Mega series barebone PC with MediaCentre III (ugh) should also search through the Mega PC series forum for further assistance there.
    Hope this helps

Are your chipset drivers up to date? If I remember right this is an Nvidia Chipset so you might want to go to Nvidia and make sure you have the latest drivers for the motherboard chipset.

  • T7900 Speaker Question ?

Did anyone using T7900 speaker system yet ? do they have a hole in the back that could hang in the wall sitck with nail ?
Any store saling T7900 yet if i live in Us ... thanks

The T7900 is the set replacing the T7700. I have yet to understand what the difference between the 2 sets are though. As such, without actually seeing a T7900 in person, I think it is reasonably safe to say the T7900 sats do have a hole in the back for wall mounting like nearly every sat in the Inspire and Mega/Gigaworks series.
Concerning stores selling them... Google it. Or look up some of the countless price-checking sites that exist. Or buy them directly from the Creative store on *this* website.
    Good Luck.

More details found on this site about Classic and Rosetta:
    http://daringfireball.net/2005/06/classicnotsupported
Rosetta is designed to translate currently shipping applications that run on a PowerPC with a G3 processor and that are built for Mac OS X.
Rosetta does not run the following:
Applications built for Mac OS 8 or 9
    Code written specifically for AltiVec
Code that inserts preferences in the System Preferences pane
Applications that require a G4 or G5 processor
Applications that depend on one or more kernel extensions
    Kernel extensions
Bundled Java applications or Java applications with JNI libraries that can’t be translated
    Classic is just not supported.
It is clear that apps that need the G4, G5 or Altivec Code won't run under Rosetta.
