Mega Sky 580 Antenna Adaptor

I've recently bought a Mega Sky 580, which worked ok, but unfortunately I stepped on the antenna adaptor and broke where it connects to the unit, which means I now cannot get any reception.
Can anyone tell me where I can buy a replacement adaptor, as I'ld like to be able to watch the World Cup!

How to contact MSI.
try contacting the dealer who sold you the MegaSky, they may have one with a complete faulty unit they can "borrow"
failing that, contact MSI UK, i believe they are very helpful

  • Mega Sky 580 no channels

    Hi
Installed Mega Sky 580 and Presto program nicely but I cant receive any channels. The program doesnt find any channel, not even if I am outside with my laptop. Does the Mega Sky need an external roof antenna to work?????

well i'm afraid i don't know anything about digital terrestrial TV in finland, but what i can tell you is to check you are actually in an area which is covered by a digital transmitter. also digital signals are different to analogue in that if your reception is poor or weak, analogue TV will appear 'snowy' or noisy, with lots of interference. because of its inherent nature, if your digital reception is weak, then you will receive no signal at all
let us know how you get on

  • Remote control and MSI PC-DTV Mega Sky 580

    Hello,
I bought one of these recently and initially had problems when installed. It would initially run fine but after I closed the program down and restarted it the PC would just reboot.
I was using the front USB ports so I moved it to the rear ports and removed and reinstalled the drivers/software. It runs just fine now and the quality of the picture superb. I've rerun the device over a few days and all seems okay. I appear to have all the available programs from the Sutton Coldfield transmitter although this morning I booted up and the screen was blank. I realised I had last looked at BBC4 and of course thats only a part time channel!
I've looked at the MSI site at the drivers/Presto PVR updates but I am not sure which of the four I should download and use. In fact as the device is working is there any advantage in doing this?
Lastly... I'm not sure if this is a problem or not but the remote control doesn't work. Reading through the forum I'm wondering if I have the wrong end of the stick and the remote only works with Microsofts MCE. I have Microsoft XP SP2. Does the Mega Sky 580 not have a built in IR sensor and am I wasting my time pointing the remote at it and swearing?

    Hi,
Okay I have the bundled Presto PVR software so the unit must be faulty. I thought that the remote control and bundled Presto PVR would only work if installed on a PC where the operating system was Media Centre Edition.
So the remote control and bundled Presto PVR should work if installed on a PC with Windows XP SP2?
It looks a bit like I'll have to get a different make. I tried to rescan the channels last night because I was missing UKTV History and now I cannot get BBC1,2,3,4 or radios 3,4,6,7. I get loads of duplicates though like 5 Q's 4 ITV3's. All this on the same aerial I was using yesterday.
I even tried it with an indoor/attic aerial that works nicely with my other freeview (set-top style not PC) boxes but no matter what I tried I just get the same duplicated list of a few channels. Even tried it with the indoor/attack aerial upside down, back to front! Same list of 63 channels but most duplicated.
They all work fine but I would prefer a complete set

  • How to install BDA-drivers correctly to MSI Mega Sky 580 dvb-receiver

    Hi,
I tried to use MSI Mega sky 580 dvb-receiver with DVBViewer program. It should work because both have bda-driver support. But DVBViewer says "No hardware found". I think the problem is that the bda-drivers of the MSI stick are not installed correctly. I have downloaded the newest drivers and installed them. I read in a forum that the bda-drivers must be installed separatelly in device manager. I tried but it didn't work. I have Windows XP pro, AMD athlon XP 2600+ and Asus A7N8X-E motherboard. Presto-player works well.

I’m not sure what do you mean.
The product I have is this: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/multimedia/mut/pro_mut_detail.php?UID=615
And the drivers I used can be found here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=624&kind=6
Actually I’m not sure which driver is the right one. Please ask if any relevant information is missing.

  • Mega Sky 580 MCE plus 2nd tuner

Bought an MSI Mega Sky 580 USB DVB-T. Installed and worked OK with Presto PVR. Appeared in device manager as PC-DTV Receiver.
Started MCE but unable to detect. Read plenty of threads with similar problem. Tried 1.5.0.1 driver patch and Presto 5.20.12 patch. Still not detected.
Read about installing a second tuner which could cause first tuner to be detected. Found old Philips/Medion 7134 analogue card (rev3) and fitted. Installed with these drivers, http://support.pcworld.co.uk/1752
Device Manager now shows Medion (7134) WDM Video Capture and Medion TV-Tuner 7134 Mk2/3
Restarted MCE, detected tuner ok, scanned for digital channels and LiveTV working perfectly
Removing Philips card caused MCE to report 'No TV signal'  :(
    PC spec:
    Dell Dimension E520
    Core 2 Duo E6300
    1GB RAM
    MCE 2500 Rollup 2 preinstalled
    Radeon X1300 256MB

So your saying you get both digital and free to air tv?

  • MEGA SKY 580 (H.264 support)

I have this MEGA SKY 580 TV tuner.
There are 8 TV channels in DVB-T in my region. Some of them have MPEG-2 encoding, and some are in MPEG-4(H.264) encoding.
I downloaded latest drivers for my TV tuner from your website, and also latest update for Presto! TVR from Newsoft website. Version 5.30.04.
When I select those channels that have MPEG-4 encoding, I get an error saying - The video format in the current media is H.264. This video format is not supported and cannot be played.
I contacted NewSoft regarding this question, and they said to contact Hardware manufacturer.
    They also said:
"This is a limitation when using PVR 5.50 and earlier versions.
We don’t provide a patch to support this video format.
Versions 5.6 for DVB-T and later version will support this format.
And PVR as part of a bundle software (known as an OEM version) for TV tuner devices.
If vender does not have the request of the issue, we will not release."
Is there a way to resolve this problem and watch those channels that are in H.264 encoding?
I've submitted a support ticket about this in February, and haven't gotten any response.

  • Mega Sky 580 unreliable!

    Hi,
I got my MSI Mega Sky 580 when buying some books from another person so I can look at it this way: it was free.  The price I paid for this and the books items was worth it for the books alone, hence my logic it was free.  This makes me feel a lot better because I would be gutted if I had paid £30 or full price!
I was going to buy the Kworld 310U which I may still do although it is £40 but if something doesn't work then being free has no benefit.  Does MSI read these forums?
Anyway, yesterday it was working but today I have lost about 9 channels and have re-installed the software & drivers again. In fact I have spent more time installing and re-installing, reading forum messages over the last couple of weeks I have had this product then watching TV!
    Some points:
    a) I went to the Presto site and their reference to software shows a completely difference screen to mine.
    b) Under Control Panel, System etc my Mega Sky 580 is shown as: Digital TV USB Mini Receiver which according to all the links give various versions bat this one word for word>
    c) As mentioned I have done the driver bit to the point I have lost interest.   I used to have an Hauppauge TV card for my PC and this was perfect with pro software, features and reliability even after moving it form old pc's to new upgrades.
Like some of the other people and posts I may start saving for the Kworld 310u or may be USB DVBT is not yet ready.  I have three setup boxes off of one aerial via a booster and they are superb and only cost £23 each.
Well got that off my chest, phew.
But thanks to all posts I have spent the last two weeks reading through.

  • Mega Sky 580 Driver installation problems

I seem to be having the same problems as alot of other people with the same product.
I bought the mega sky 580 USB today and have spend the last 8 hours trying to get it to work
My problem is that windows recognizes the device "USB 2.0 DVB_Adapter" (shouldnt this not be "DTV USB MINI" or "PC-DTV Receiver" and not Adapter?) i go to  install the drivers provided on the cd, but at the end of the setup it says that the device is not connected properly.
I have tried the drivers on the MSI website and also tried some, if not all of the sergestions in other posts on this forum.
Im starting to pull my hair out,
please help before i go bald
    Thanks!!

when you first connected the MegaSky, what did the 'Found New Hardware' bubble describe it as? if FNH identifies it as anything other than 'PC-DTV Receiver' or 'DTV USB Mini', then return to your retailer for exchange
in your Device Manager, is the MegaSky listed with a (?) next to it?
does your PC support USB 2.0 devices?

  • USB Mega Sky 580 Scanning Problems

    Hi.
I baught the USB Mega Sky 580 from a local computer shop and everything installed correctly, I scanned for channels and no channels got picked up.. So i contacted the shop and they said to bring it back for a replacement as it might be faulty, So i got the replacement and installed it after removing the old install. Once it was installed i scanned for channels again and no channels was found again. I un-installed the driver and downloaded the ones from MSI website and re-installed, still got no channels on scanning.
I've also installed microsoft patches/hotfix. I have tried all 6 USB ports on my computer and i've also tried a mains powered USB Hub, I have also looked through this forum for help and tried a few things and still no luck.
I'm using the aerial out the back off my freeview box, i get between 90-100% signal on the TV.
    PC Specs :
    p4 2.9ghz
    1gb RAM
    Win XP Home SP2
Any help on getting this too work would be grateful.
    Thanks.

are you using Windows XP MCE2005, or the bundled PrestoPVR software? if you are using PrestoPVR, have you installed the correct patch for your version of the hardware
I'm using PrestoPVR (the MCE drivers on the link above) on Windows XP Home SP2 as all other drivers fail to scan for channels.
Yes i've tried the patches. Still can't get this thing working :(

  • Mega Sky 580 - Crashes

I have problems getting the card to be stable. If I start and close the program several times my machine reboots with an "error caused by a device driver". If I just let Presto PVR run it crashes the application after some time.
Actually we are 4 people who bought this device and all of us have these issues. This is BTW the Genesyslogic version.

    Hi Stu, :-)
The problems I experience can be categorized in 2.
    1. I exit Presto and the computer just reboots. When booted again it reports: "error caused by a device driver".
    2. Presto crashes and I can send a report to Microsoft. If I start Presto again there is no picture. If I pull out the USB dongle and plug it back it works again.
As written above I have some friends who also bought the Mega Sky. They are all experiencing similar issues. I tried the Mega Sky at work on my computer there and that machine is almost vanilla.
I wrote down the specs and some of the applications installed here at home, that could have any influence. I had an episode where I recorded a program using EPG. Presto crashed after 10 minutes, but the recording continued and ended well. (Issue 2)
    Specs.
    Asus P4C800-E Deluxe v2.0 - BIOS 1024 (latest), P4 3.0E, 1GB OCZ EL DDR PC-4000 Dual Channel Gold.
Club3D 7800GS - 256MB. I tried with both Forceware 81.21 WHQL and 87.25 beta. They give the same result.
    NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder 1.02.196
Creative Audigy Platinum. Driver version 5.12.2.445
Windows XP SP2 Danish - All updated.
    Windows Media Player 10.00.00.4019
    I have PowerDVD 6.0.0.2023 installed.
My best guess is that the issue is caused by the Mega Sky driver and the graphics drivers.

  • MEGA SKY 580 INSTALLATION PROBLEM

I recently bought a Mega Sky and have problems with Installation. When loading the usb drivers I get a device not available message. It is visible in the Safely Remove Hardware window as Sample Software BDA Capture Device GL1208 - whatever that is. I've tried this on two separate laptops. My main one is a Dell Latitude D600 but I've also tried it on a new Dell Inspirion M65 with the same result.
Stangely the Presto PVR software installs and runs but the only device available when I try to scan for channels is Sample BDA Tuner Filter GL1208, which I guess is not what I need.
I've tried multiple reboots, uninstall-reinstall etc etc but nothing seems to make any difference

I removed all codecs first.... then i installed all directshow filters i found... (nimo etc etc) and guess what!!!!!
    ITS WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!
Thnx for patience and especially for advises. I really am a glad man now!

  • Require an Antenna Adapter for an indoor antenna (MSI MEGA SKY 580)

    Hi there!
I recently bought an MSI 580, and have been having problems in picking up a signal. There are only a few areas inside the house where I'm able to get a signal but then end up losing it again. I live in the UK in an area where the signals strong for freeview. I tried this on my laptop at another mates house and found that the signal there was more easier to find around the house. I've downloaded the patches and my system is above the minimum requirements. When I FINALLY manage to find a signal, I am able to watch tv on both presto pvr and media center. I've discovered having read the forum that I am going to need another good indoor antenna then the useless one that has come with the bundle. I can however only connect that to the USB stick once I have the antenna adapter which I didn't receive with the package. Can someone please tell me where I can get one of them from and also reccommend another good indoor antenna that is able to pick up signals on the move? The only reason I bought this gadget was so I could watch tv on the move and if I am going to keep losing reception everytime I slighly move then its quite useless to me.

just out of curiosity, which version of the MegaSky is yours? (Found New Hardware wizard detects it as either a "PC-DTV Receiver" or "DTV USB Mini")
as for indoor aerials, i've tried several types, all with mixed results, so i can't single out any one in particular. i would recommend using some sort of signal booster, unless you live very close to a DTT transmitter. however, you should try to look out for aerials designed for digital reception such as this one:
    Total Control Freeview Indoor Aerial
digital TV "on-the-go" is a nice idea, but is limited in the UK somewhat due to our laidback approach to change. the sooner we can switch off analogue transmissions, increase power output and total coverage of digital transmissions the better. the UK is severely behind other countries when it comes to DTT; Australia already has most of its digital DVB-T output in HDTV.
