Mega Stick 1 - files present but no music

I'm using a mega stick 128 with windows 98 SE. Its been working fine but now, suddenly, when I format the stick and load it up with new music, the files appear in the device window and they will play from the mega stick on the computer but 'writing' does not appear when I transfer the files and 'no file' appears on the display. Anyone got any ideas?

OK, I have the unfortunate situation that all of my music files appear to be present and correct, but iTunes just shows nothing at all. I have tried all of the suggestions I can find online, including changing the Music folder using iTunes Preferences/Advanced, selecting a new folder on startup by pressing the Alt key on my MacBook, and re-installing iTunes from scratch, but nothing seems to work.
Config: OS X 10.7.4 (Lion) and iTunes 10.6.3 (25)
I have a sneaking suspicion that this occurred just after the system upgraded my version of iTunes, but can't be 100% certain since upgrades seem to happen all the time.
This is obviously frustrating, so any advice would be gratefully received. It's an unusual case I think, in that I've got my music and backups, but can't actually play the blasted stuff with iTunes. As a last resort I may have to just re-import it all, but this will take and age and will almost certainly lose my playlists, so I consider this a last resort. Everything is there on the 'puter, so I don't see why it has to be so **** difficult!

Oh well, nobody replied so I went out on a limb and thought I'd try a combination of the various fixes that I had seen for similar problems on this forum. This seems to have worked, so I thought I'd document them here, in case anybody has the same problem. Yes, I know it's just repeating stuff that other people have said (by definition), but it'll be useful for me, even if nobody else ever uses it.
I'd pretty much resigned myself to screwing everything up, so I thought I might as well tidy up my iTunes folders to begin with, since these had got rather scrambled over the lifetime of iTunes.
As a first step, I exitted iTunes and used the OS X Activity Monitor to kill the iTunes helper.
I then moved all of the various iTunes media folders from the "iTunes" directory to the newer "iTunes\iTunes Media" folder. The media folders that I had on my system were: Album Artwork, Audiobooks, Books, Mobile Applications, Movies, Music, Podcasts, Ringtones, TV Shows, Voice Memos, iPod Games and iTunes U. Note that this is just what I found on my setup - ymmv.
Rather pleasingly, by performing this step I located a number of orphan media files that I hadn't seen for ages (years in some cases), so it was a step well worth doing imho.
Since I didn't want to waste time actually moving any files at this stage, I started up iTunes and set the iTunes/Preferences/Advanced dialog to disable the "Copy files to media folder" option.
I then dragged each of the media folders from the Finder into iTunes. I was really pleased that it was able to automagically assign them to the correct categories under the iTunes LIBRARY. Apart from the music selection the transfer was pretty fast, which made it easier to stomach. I also began by transferring some of the smaller folders (e.g. Books) which reassured me that the process was working correctly.
Note that the "File/Add to Library..." menu option did not work in the same way - only dragging from Finder.
After all of this, my media content inside iTunes was pretty much pristine, with all of the media located, in the correct place and with al of the artwork as expected.
Unfortunately, I had lost all of my playlists, which is something I had resigned myself to. However, I'd read elsewhere that these might be recoverable from the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file. I did a quick scan of this file and was able to locate some of my old playlists - much to my surprise (recall, this was after I had already made several attempts to recover my files, so I was expecting this to have been scrambled).
I therefore copied this file to my desktop and used the iTunes "File/Library/Import Playlist..." to see if I could recover any playlists from this file. Amazingly, they all re-appeared. Better yet, they actualy worked, despite the fact that I had moved loads of the files during the earlier housekeeping stage. A few playlists were duplicated but it was a trivial step to delete the unwanted ones.
To finish up, I re-enabled the "Copy files to media folder" - fully expecting this to take an age to move the files around. Once again, I was pleasantly surprised that nothing seemed to happen - possibly because all of the media files were already in the 'correct' location - I'm not sure on this point.
So, to finish - all of my media files are back in iTunes, all of the playlists recovered, and I've also recovered some music files and movies that I thought I'd lost. Not a bad outcome for a couple of hours work (most of which was during the initial housekeepign step).
If I had the time, it'd be nice to write a script to do the housekeeping step, but well, you know how life goes...

I am studying towards the OCA and working through the SQL Fundamentals I Exam guide text book by John Watson and Roopesh Ramklass. I have a problem with accessing the HR Schema tables in SQL Developer. I can get connected to the HR schema but no information is available when i click on the + sign next to the "Tables (filtered)" link in SQL Developer under Human Resources - BTW (I've downloaded Oracle 11G)
Please help, I've tried the following already;
1. Downloaded the HR Schema sample scripts again
2. Resetting the Sample schema with this syntax in SQL PLUS - @?/demo/schema/mksample systempwd syspwd hrpwd oepwd pmpwd ixpwd shpwd bipwd default_tablespace temp_tablespace log_file_directory/
3. I have no Master script file so I cant recreate the sample scripts

Mega Stick 511 (1GB) - Large files are deleted!

Hi there!
My problem is that when trying to store large files in my Mega Stick, they magically dissapear!
For example: I copy a large '.avi' file (let's say 700Mb). Then, while travelling I listen to some music. Finally, when I plug the Mega Stick to the computer, the '.avi' file no longer exists in it!!!

I just bought a MSI MEGA STICK 256 and by mistake I deleted all the logo files from root directory .
It is possible one of you to send to me these files if you have them anymore? I don't know the pictures format or if it is possible to get them from the web.

2 iPods, 2 accounts but same music files, Can I point both users to the same music files, or do I have to have a seperate copy on each user account?
Me and the wife both have an iPod, and Ive read there easier to manage if you use 2 user accounts.
However, can I store all my music MP3s in one place on the HDD, and just point each user account's iTunes to the one place?
Or do you have to have the music in each users folder?

I just tried it again and this time a different message showed up "The iPod 'name' cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found." I have no clue what folder it could be talking about.

Data1.cab file is present but empty after download for Acrobat Pro XI

I am trying to upgrade to Acrobat Pro XI and have downloaded the files. The extraction process took quote a few attempts before it worked on my PC and I'm now doing the install. It get to a point where 'Error 1311 Source file not found' appears and asks me to check on the data1.cab file and retry. The file is present but is empty (0kb) so when I hit 'retry' the same message just appears again.I am downloading from Adobe direct, not from a disc and am downloading onto a PC.

Older Zens don't support AAC, which is the format iTunes uses for songs.

Mega Stick 256 - XP detects it but no drive access

Like many of you, I'm having problems with the Mega Stick 256/MP3, and I'm not happy.
I have Windows XP with SP2. Windows detects it and installs it as new hardware.
Sometimes it appears as a drive, but when click on the drive nothing happens... It just hangs or insists that I "insert a disk."
Other times there is no drive shown at all, though it properly shows up as installed when I look at "Safely Remove Hardware."
The device manager shows that there is no conflict.
At MSI's suggestion, I did install the updated driver, but that did not solve the problem. I uninstalled the driver.
I had a friend in Bangkok buy it and sent it to me in Hat Yai, so I can't get help from the vendor (not that they know anything). Any fast help would be appreciated, as I intended to use it in my English-language classes today!!!!!

There is a compatibility issue with MegaStick and nForce chipset. I also experienced this once with one of my friend’s machine. I don’t have an nForce chipset based board so I cant directly help you, but there are many threads discussing that issue under this forum, do a search and see. I cant recall a specific solution for the problem but there were few suggestions as I remember.

Mega Stick 256MB (USB 1.1)

I bought the Mega Stick but I don't have the CDRom. Do I need it when I use Windows XP as operating system? My system recognises the Mega Stick when I put it in my USB, but I don't see it on my screen or something. When I copy files from a CD to the player I can't find them and I can't see the player writing.

If u plug in the stick (and switch it on) it will present itself as a driveletter e.g. E: Just copy the MP3 or WMA files to that drive.

2. After firmware unzipping, it will show some files, please replace driver installation files (C:\Program Files\MSI\MS-5527)
3. Please press sustained “play key” first (While mega player can't be recognized by PC please add this procedure), then plug your mega stick 527 in your PC.
4. Please go to "start" (below left corner) and enter "programs" and choose "MSI MS-5528" update now!!!
5. As you update firmware that you can select "format data area" and after update success, you can release of your finger. (While mega player can't be recognized by PC please add this procedure)
Please note: While mega player can't be recognized by PC, please don’t put battery with update firmware.

Firmware 2.02 - 2.04 mega stick

Is it true that after upgrading the firm 2.02 to 2.04 the record rate is reduced to 22 Khz maximum instead of 48Khz ?
This is what is stated at the firmware upgrade page from MSI Mega Stick 1 ver. 2 at :

I really don't have a clue why MSI reduced the rate to 22Khz , it certainly doesn't tribute to its popularity.
Why affraid of the RIAA ? , back in the 70ties millions of people started recording FM broadcastings (songs) on hughe taperecording devices , in the 80ties billions had a tapedeck , the nineties brought us the MP3 and CD burner .. why choking the bitrate on a MSI stick when there are trillions of people out in the world recording everything that can be recorded on every recordable device available... it's a sign of false purity ... or being chicken.
I doubt anyone will use the FM recording capabilities of the MSI stick to become a millionaire by recording and processing illegal music (think about the quality it will result in .. even at 48Khz... even a deaf person wouldn't pay a buck to buy this kind of material.. lol) , considering other regions on the internet that provide digital files that can be used anywichway you want.
So MSI .. stop fooling around , the professional copyright pirates won't use the MP3 stick , give us normal and legal users a firmware that makes the most out of the stick , functional and usable
