P.S. Hard words, but where is the support ?

I am using a Megastick having the following versions --> Boot Manager : 2.412.001 USB Mass Storage / Player / Resource Manager  :2.040.000. And I am using Windows XP Pro + SP1 , and everything works fine for me. I didnt install any drivers. Works with XP default drivers.

    All,
    The problem has been "sorted" for me. After speaking with the very helpful Alick in MSI support, he pointed me to the right firmware for my MS5511 1GB Megastick:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/firmware/frm/spt_frm_ia_detail.php?UID=607
    It's the one called "MEGA STICK 511 Firmware" not "MEGA STICK 511 USB2.0 without FM Firmware" (what a horrible website!) and it's version 002.001.009.
    Still the annoying 'This device can perform faster' message - but it's connected as USB2.0 full-speed and not USB1.0 slow-speed, meaning you can fill up the 1GB in about 20 minutes, as opposed to several hours.
    I compared Alick's results using HD Tach (http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public/index.php?request=HdTach), and got the following results:
    1. A USB1.1 device will read at around 0.8 MByte/s
    2. My MS5511 device will read at around 0.9 MByte/s (USB2.0 full-speed's theoretical max is around 1.5MByte/s)
    3. A USB2.0 high-speed memory-stick will read at around 9.0 MByte/s (USB2.0 high-speed's theoretical max is around 60 MByte/s
    4. My (slow) hard disk will read at around 30 Mbyte/s
    5. A really good hard disk on a fast PC will read at around 130 MByte/s
    The real problem I have is that MSI are marketing their USB2.0 device as if it's a decent speed, whereas it's only slightly faster than USB1.1. It takes me 23 minutes to fill it up, which is way too long.
    Anyone else finding their Megastick any faster?
    After upgrading my firmware to 3.000.006 I have got the same problem I get the 'This device can perform faster' message' but this was not the case before the firmware upgrade when I had 2.0. Also with the old firmware I did almost filled my stick and I didn't timed it but I think it could take about 10 minutes.
    I have the MSI MEGA Stick 511 - Lite, 256M and it has no FM radio. Should I then not use the firmware listed as wothout FM?

  • Mega Stick 511 problem

    I've just bought a Mega Stick 511 and right now it's making me want to do this  . I'm running Windows Xp (although the manual seems to be for 98se users) and everytime I go to the device manager to look for the driver Player Recovery Device Class, it's not there although this- MSI MS-5511 USB Device- is listed under disk drives. I've downloaded the updated firmware and drivers from the MSI website and I'm following each step but this just keeps throwing me for a loop. I don't think it's a connection problem because the LCD screen on the player shows that it's connected. So if anyone out there has any clue how to fix this and then proceed to tell me how to actually load MP3 files onto it (because even that I'm sure I will stuff up), please please help me.

    As Peter says above, only an Apple Store genius can advise you.
    But to further clarify, you seem to postulate that if Apple helps you, the cure would be a replacement.  That is not necessarily true.  Let them look at it and advise you what the remedy is.  They may offer you nothing (saying it's your fault), or they may offer you a solution (keeping your current iPhone), or possibly a replacement.

  • Mega Stick 128

    Hi!
    Last week i bought   Mega stick128 MP3  and now I have a few problems with the connection to usb of my computer.
    I have Windows XP Professional service Pack 1 with driver USB 2.0 but when I put the stick in the USB and I try to explore my folder all system stop and I to turn off the pen from usb port. I try also with my notebook with Windows2000 and I have not any problem, all is fantastic.
    So I decide to install the driver for windows XP from your internet site, but nothing is change. The firmware of the stick  is the last one 2.5 European.
    Can you help me, I need a special patch or there is a no compatibility between the stick and windows XP professional.
    I don’t think that is a problem of the stick because with windows 2000 I haven’t problem, but I don’t think also that is a problem of USB port of my computer because I use another  flash stick without a problem.
    Last information ,when the stick stop the message on the display in reading!
    Please Help me
    Thank you.

    look, when you make these replies saying "nothing changed" will not help. what did you do, step by step, and what happened when you tried it? so you went to a comp in which the mega stick didn't hang windows. you right click formatted the mega stick "x" drive using fat or fat 16 (i used fat) and not fat 32. did you uncheck the quick format, or did you leave it checked? please explain yourself. how do i know if you understood what i was asking or if i even explained it well enough? either one has to be the case as you are the only one in which this technique has not worked for.

  • USB (Mega stick), sound output and PS2 problems

    ==USB problem==
    The MSI MEGA STICK do not work with the MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR.
    When you plug it, its recognized, you can write on the MEGA STICK, delete files but cannot READ from MEGA STICK. It freezes while display "reading". I have tried on lots of PCs. Only my MSI motherboard do not work properly. The same problem with my 2 MEGA STICK. And i had tried Windows XP and Linux. Same problem. Others USB devices works fine. Even card readers...
    ==PS2==
    My optical wireless mouse do not works properly. When i turns on the computer, it works ok. If i restart, do not work. Restart again, works. And go on... Only this mouse. Others MB works fine.
    ==Sound Output==
    And also with my sound output. The eletrical one (coaxial).
    It do not work with my 5.1 home system. It works fine with my old SB Live. It gets worse when i use my tv output from my Radeon 9100. It only works SOMETIMES when the tv output is not plugged in.
    Thanks to all that could help me.

    Mega stick.
    have you updated the firmware ?
    No. It Freezes before being able to update. Also the update do not tell about solving this problem
    "Firmware version: 2.05
    Update items
    1. Improve delete MP3 and voice files function.
    2. Fix device will restart while forward/backward Voice file."
    you do know that windows xp does not come with usb2 drivers.
    sp1 does and you have to install them yourself.
    go to device manager and delete all usb entries and reboot and windows will install the usb2 drivers next time you boot.
    if you get a slipstreamed version of xp you dont need to do this as it installed usb2 drivers rightaway.
    slipstream means a xp disc with sp1 on it.
    My XP cd is already SP1. Also tried on BIOS to use only USB 1.1V
    PS2.
    tried to use the other ps2 contact ?
    No. Could i use the keyboard PS2 to plug the mouse?
    SOUND.
    this is not my area but it could be a good idea to post what the equipment is.
    have you tried the latest drivers from http://www.nvidia.com ?[/quote]
    Its a brazilian brend. You wont know. CCE. Its works fine with DVDs, my old SB Live! and others. Only with my K7N2 do not work properly. Its an AC3 decoder. The problem gets worse when i use the Radeon 9100 tv out.
    Look like the problem on this thread.

    This is my old thread. Never solved. :-(

    When i updated the BIOS, it got even worse. Not even with the tv output unplugged it never worked anymore...

  • Mega Stick 1 dictating machine noise

    When writing a sound from the built-in microphone observed sufficiently loud stranger rhythmical noise. I tried to change RECORD RATE - no effect, changing  the frequency to 48000Hz noise in the addition becomes whistling. Connection of external microphone also does not solve a problem. Can owners of this unit tell their impressions - beside them dictating machine works also or not?

    Here are several examples of dictating machine record with noise (Mega Stick 1 MS-5511, firmware version 2.xx):
    record of absolute silence, 22500Hz:

  • Mega Stick - 122 MB free after update

    I've updated Mega Stick firmware from 2.01 to 2.04 (using newest drivers from site) under WinXP and everything went well ... except that after updating and formating I had 122 of 128 MB free (and there were no files on it, except settings.dat). Is this how it should be?
    One more thing, I'm using it with NiMh batteries (800mAh), but they won't last long because MS1 thinks that Alkaline battery voltage is too low (and it isn't, it's normal voltage for NiMh, and MS1 works just fine on that voltage)... I guess that it could be solved in firmware, with option to select Alkaline or NiMh batteries.

    No, it says (Main menu/About) 128MB total, 122MB free.

    Yes, that crossed my mind later. I just thought it would take less space.

  • Mega stick 511 (without fm) cannot connect

    My Mega Stick 511 (Without FM) was not found by my system.  I couldn't found "Removable Disk(H:)" in "My Computer" after I connected Mega Stick to my USB port.  However, "CONNECTED" text was shown on Mega Stick LCD although there was nothing shown on "Safely Remove Hardware".
    Musics already saved played well.  I could listen to musics that I copied to Mega Stick last 2 week ago.  All other functions are ok.  But, I cannot copy new mp3 because there is no "Removable Disk(H:)" appear in "My Computer"
    Please Help me.

    Yes, I have tried all USB port, nothing work.  I don't think this is not some USB port problems of the computer because other devices are still running functionally on these ports.  I have tried this mp3 player on 2 computers.  One is on my PC and one is on Laptop.
    Thanks for your reply.

    Please confirming your mega stick is USB1.1 or USB2.0 first, then update firmware and try again!!
    Please do according to firmware update procedure of the following:
    Mega stick firmware update process: (Don't put battery)
    1. Please download and install the latest firmware and driver!!
    USB1.1: (firmware version v3.00.13)
    (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/ia/ia/pro_ia_detail.php?UID=543)
    USB2.0: (firmware version v2.00.09)
    (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/ia/ia/pro_ia_detail.php?UID=612)
    2. After firmware unzipping, it will show some files, please replace driver installation files (C:\Program Files\MSI\MS-551X)
    3. Please press sustained “play key” first, then plug your mega stick 256 in your PC.
    4. Please go to "start" (below left corner) and enter "programs" and choose "MSI MS-551X" update now!!!
    5. As you update firmware that you can select "format data area" and after update success, you can release of your finger.
    Please note: (1) Don't put battery with update firmware procedure. (2) The step 3 is very importantly, please must press sustained “play key” first, then connect to your PC.

  • Mega Stick 256 problem

    Hi.
    Sorry for my bad english.
    I'm have a Mega Stick 256 and it didn't work.   I ran an update using the update tools to clear the files in the device, but  it froze, leaving my stick in a "wrong state".
    Now, it don't turn on; and if connect to XP, it detect as "unknow device", so the update tool don't detect too.
    How can force to detect it, to run again the update? Or can I make??
    Thanks
    Germán

    It's not a firmware update!  because the update tool don't detect the stick (XP shows me as "unknow device").
    I need know how force the detection o how force the firmware update.
    Thanks

    FINALLY, THE SOLUTION
    I have a brand new Megastick 511 USB 2.0 without FM, and I could get version 3.x firmware update done.
    My PC config is...
    ABit KV8 Pro Motherboard,
    512MB kingston RAM,
    Athlon64 2800+,
    OS Win XP SP2 with every single update released,
    but frankly, I don't believe this problem has anything to do with machine configuration, USB or OS issues. It's merely a question of doing the right thing. Of course, I'm assuming your USB is really 2.0 and you downloaded the right firmware and unzipped it to the MS-5511 folder, as stated in the manual.
    Ok, folks. After having this very same problem for a few days, I finally figured it out. Yeah, I wanted this playlist feature this bad, and it's worth the price.
    Problems were...
    1- Device was not recognized as a USB 2.0 device, no matter the USB motherboard drivers were installed;
    2- As soon version 3.x firmware updates were done, I got the old 'deadbrick' effect - oh, yeah, no lights or sounds out of the brand new player - which could be reversed with the old firmware, the one supplied with the CD.
    What I did to have the playlist feature was...
    1- Took the battery OUT;
    2- Using the cable supplied, I pressed and held the play/pause button and kept it pressed until procedure was completed;
    3- Inserted the cable in a USB;
    4- Windows showed the old 'hey, this device could be faster, blah, blah' message - just ignore it, as I did!
    5- Go to the MSI MS511 MEGA STICK Update program;
    6- This is very important... at this point, it would be nice if the software could recognize the device, but IT DOESN'T! You will get a message saying 'Media state not started' or something like this after quite a while waiting. This mean it won't show your current firmware version! Once again, ignore it!
    7- Well, since the 'start' button was there, I clicked on it, AND I WAS AMAZED TO SEE THE UPDATE BEING DONE! Ok, I didn't wanted to format the device, as it was full of good music, but even unchecking the format option, the software keep saying this had to be done in order to upgrade the firmware - a fair price;
    8- As all the copying and writing and verifying processes were done, I knew procedure was over, as the new 3.x firmware version was showing, and I could finally copy more tunes into my 511-now-with-playlist device! Only at this point I released the play/pause button.
    Now, when I connect the 511 to the PC, Windows continues saying the device could be faster, but the Update software recognizes it immediatly! And for 512MB of stuff, it takes around 12min to transfer - as it did before - just in case you wanted to know.
    Enjoy, my friends!
