Megahertz values in ram

I have seen a Kingston ram stick listed in advertisment with megahertz values. and that could be just the same as selling vacums based on watts. i did some research and found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megahertz_myth
good read, but outside of a focas on memory. i also see a lot of other people have a bus speed way beyond the 133 MHz on this late 2004 G 4 . I do understand that highest that i can go with memory is with a 512 stick maxing out at 768 with the factory installed memory. where can i get some accurate info to upgrade bus speed and if possable have a apple doc remove the factory memory that is solder in and replace with 1 gig or two 512 sticks. and or rebuild options, should i consult a physical location authorized apple store to see options to rebuild this puppy.
iBookG-4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hi Space Cadet
The RAM speed is often expressed as a range, but it will conform to the bus speed of the logic board. To change the bus speed is to change the logic board. Also, whilst it may be one thing to unsolder the onboard RAM, whether you would find a physically suitable higher replacement is another thing. I think you could end up wasting a lot of time on this project, and then realise the quickest and cheapest course would be to change over to a late model logic board, or even a later model iBook.

  • Stop a dimensional drill for a particular value of a column in obiee 11g

    Hi,
I have dimensional drill been setup for Supervisor Hierarchy Table.I need to stop the dimensional drill for a particular value of the column in obiee 11g.
    Example: I have two columns
    1.Supervisor Level 1 Name
    2.Supervisor Level 2 Name
Supervisor Level 1 Name Columns have these values.(Ram,Higher,Sam)
Supervisor Level 2 Name Columns have these values.(Ravi,Higher,Raghul).
If we pull Supervisor Level 1 Name Column in report which has a dimensional drill(It will navigate to Supervisor Level 2 Name). It will show
    1.Ram
    2.Higher
    3.Sam
I should not drill on Higher value but the rest of the values(Sam and Ram will drill to Supervisor Level 2 Name) should be drillable. The same should happen for Supervisor Level 2 Name.
    Please Suggest.
    Thanks,

    Hi,

    Hi:
If you want to give either Z4 or FW depending on a Logic, you can use ABAP or Formula Builder.
Ofcourse you cannot give FiscVariant = 'Z4FW' because thats not a valid value.

  • Mis-matched ram sizes (512mb and 1 gig) effect on performance...

Is my MacBook performance taking a hit because I have unequal values of RAM?

Any loss in performance is more than made up by increasing the amount of Ram anyway. You're not taking a hit right now, you're going a ton faster. Matched pairs may provide 5% performance increase, but if that holds anyone back from increasing their ram level with a mismatched set, then they need to rethink what ram does for a computer. I have 1.25 in my mini, because 512 wasn't enough and 2gb was too expensive right on the heels of the computer purchase itself. You will not miss the performance of a matched set.

  • [solved] building go-openoffice / mono 4GB++ RAM = normal I guess

    Hi!
I tried building go-oo. Already have had problems with the last few tries, so I set it to nice 15. Still it was making the machine unusable... a look into xfce4-taskmanager was showing me mono with a negative value of Ram allocated, so I didn't notice it at first, but top says:
    16857 user 39 19 4847m 2.7g 500 T 0 81.9 2:20.79 mono
So... can this be normal / "intended"?

  • G41M-P26 shutting down, hanging w/ DDR3-1600 RAM. Not compatible?

    Hello,
I am having problems with this board shutting down or hanging after some time, then refusing to post, sometime later it will POST and allow getting to setup, then it may shut down suddenly.  Sometimes it may boot and go through Memtest for acouple of passes OK, but later shutdown.
I have had the system for a couple of years, but was barely used.  MOBO, CPU and RAM bought from local Tiger Direct as wel matched for working together.  I don't see what may have caused problems to start.  From what I've tested and read lately, I suspect the problem is that the RAM is not really appropriate for the board since it is High Density.  Corsair support has told me that.  I've read articles that say this High Density RAM is designed for i3, i5, i7 (Sandy Bridge Family) and will most likely not work with this MOBO/CPU combination.  Also, reading these forums I've gathered only two 1333 DIMMs have been tested as working on this MOBO and others may not.  The best bet is using 800 or 1066 RAM.
    Does this sound reasonable?
For completeness, this some of what I've done these past days:
    - try MOBO, CPU, RAM only.  Problems are the same.
    - try Fail Safe defaults, optimized defaults, load SPD values of RAM, manual setting of timings for 1333. Sometimes it has POSTed and I connect CD to boot  to Memtest.  Could run for couple of hours without errors or fail in minutes.
    - tried 2 PSUs and a bought a new one, problem remains.
    - try DIMM on slot 2.
    - monitored CPU heat and is within limits.  Anyway, sometimes wil not POST with CPU and RAM cold.
When it shuts down it may not turn back on at all immediately, and needs CMOS clear or sometimes taking battery out since clear CMOS doesn't work.  I've gotten a couple of "Overclocking failed", but I haven't changed the default 200 MHz BCLK frequency.
I'm in the process of looking among friends for 800 or 1066 RAM to test , my local provider Tiger Direct (and probably everybody else) doesn't carry it anymore.  Looking also for a MOBO with (Sandy Bridge CPU) where to test my 1333 RAM.
In the meantime, I could try updating the BIOS, since it is a few versions behind on what was available on Nov 2011.  I see some updates address memory compatibility issues.  I have to see if I have the working Floppy or USB Flash Drive to do it and recover the BIOS if the machine shuts off as I'm doing the BIOS update (which would be a bit scary).
Should I update the BIOS, anyway?
Well, thanks for any feedback and suggestions.

    1. DDR2-800 (5-5-5-18) is faster than DDR3-800 (6-6-6-18). In my opinion, this is your last option.
Interesting, tidbit, but my board can't use DDR2.  Yeah, this is the worst option. I wrote "it's the most expensive", which to me in this case means the worst option, but I didn't actually write "worst".  For less than the 4GB DDR3-800 costs I can get 4GB DDR3-1066 and a 333 FSB CPU!
    Quote
    2. They will run at 800MHz because your FSB is 200x4 MHz and your max. DRAM ratio is 2:1
Sure.  I ask because I can buy a DDR3-800 for $78, but I can buy the DDR3-1066 for $30 and run the same speed.  Maybe I can even use the 1066 in some other system in the future.  I sometimes get parts from systems other people discard and keep building and improving machines for misc uses.

    3. A processor with 333x4 MHz FSB is your best option.
See the supported CPUs here: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/G41M-P26.html#/?div=CPUSupport
    Core 2 Quad Q8xxx, Q9xxx
    Core 2 Duo E8xxx
Yes, best option given it's cheaper to get the CPU than a slower RAM. But I didn't get the answer about if I can use the current RAM I have now, given it's description says "Designed for use with all DDR3 motherboards with four memory channels".  Will the 1333 RAM I already have, run on this board with a 333 FSB CPU and setting timings manually for it to run at 1066?
If it does, then I only buy the CPU.
    Quote
And forget about that 4x2GB kit. A few years ago they had a 2x4GB Dominator at 1333MHz. Not anymore ...
Just get the Corsair XMS3 CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 kit.
It has been tested on MSI G41M-P33 and I bet it's working fine on G41M-P26
Why do you recommend this RAM when I already have a 4 GB DIMM of DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 like it?
The only difference may be the line about mine being designed for motherboards with four channel memory.  I would like to know why my RAM wouldn't work if I buy the 333 FSB CPU.

The G41 chipset has been designed for socket 775 and DDR2-800.
DDR3 is a workaround on this chipset.
For this reason all these troubles and incompatibilities ...
    Oh, Ok.
    Quote
Anyway, the most popular G41 config is G41M-P33 Combo:
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/G41M-P33-Combo.html
Many people want to keep their socket 775 processors and DDR2 modules and this mobo is a very good option.
On the top of that, DDR2-800 (5-5-5-18) is as fast as DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-20).
I see it's popular, but when I bought these parts it's what they had on hand at the local CompUSA/TigerDirect store.  Which, supposedly worked together.
It may seem I'm being too thorough with this, and I appreciate you guy's patience.  It's that I'm thinking and looking to in the future buy parts, to use with the parts left over from this combo, to build a slightly better 2nd desktop.  So, my ideal choice is to get a 333 FSB CPU and have it work with my current RAM (pending answer of questions above).    If I can't do that because my RAM won't work, I might get just some DDR3-1066 RAM and run it at 800 with this CPU.  Then the money I would have used for the 333 FSB CPU can go to building a Sandy Bridge system with a new MOBO, maybe some i5 or i7 CPU and the 1333 RAM I already have.   Getting the most out of little money by planning, see?
    Thanks for the help, all!

  • Enter a value using set value dynamic action

    Hi,
I'm using Oracle 11g XE with apex 4.0.2.
I've been trying to use a dynamic action on a text field 'item_group'. Button doesn't have this facility. I created an advanced action using 'set value' with no condition the value being 'RAM.' The event is "change", selection type 'event source', set type is 'static assignment' and value is RAM. It is supposed to trigger when the create button is pressed but nothing happens and the field is still null. I've tried variations on this but nothing works. Can anyone help.

I have an iMac 8.1 - 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1Gb Ram. I wish to upgrade to OS Lion which requires 2Gb RAM. Which 2Gb card would be the most suitable .

  • Ram: 2GB vs 2x1GB

    Hello,
I have a late 2007 Blackbook with the standard ram (2x512). I am looking to upgrade.
I am not a power user so think that 2GB is good enough instead of maxing out to 4GB.
So my question is whether I should just get one 2GB module to replace one of the current 512 modules? This would give me a total of 2.5GB without the benefits of paired modules.
Or should I get a 2x1GB kit? This would be less total RAM but would be paired.
The prices for the two options are about the same.
Also, any recommendations on brands other than Crucial? Kingston? PNY? Mushkin? Edge?
    Thanks in advance!
    Ciao,
    Rodrigo

Generally speaking, these 'cheaper' RAM sticks will work just fine, but the reason they're cheaper, or 'valueram' or whatever the particular company calls it, is because most of the time they aren't full size.
By that, I mean that yes, they have 2GB worth of RAM chips on there, but they are all not 100% functional, leading to somewhere between 1.5GB-2GB on the stick. Is that really worth saving a couple bucks? You may get a full stick, but you may not.
That's about as funny as the guy who claimed different brands of memory would "fight it out with each other" if used in the same system. As someone in the electronics industry, that's likely the strangest and most incorrect statement I've ever heard here.
If a single bit doesn't pass power-on self test, a MacBook should fail to boot. It doesn't quarantine bad bits or segments like a hard drive. 2GB means 2^31 bytes. 1GB means 2^30 bytes. No more or no less. Memory manufacturers do include back-up rows/columns, but only use them to replace entire rows that fail during initial testing. Functionally this means only the amount of memory listed is accessible by the computer.
Much value style RAM saves with assembly in countries with cheaper manufacturing. Maybe the boards come from second tier suppliers. Sometimes it is almost identical but the manufacturer wants to address different price segments; think GM with almost the same car sold as Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, etc. In the large majority of cases, the lifetime warranty policy is the same between a company's standard and value memory products.

  • Anyone with corsair value select memory.

    Hi,
I have the neo2 board, and 4 512 meg corsair value select ram. With two memory chips, it works fine, but with four, I get errors, even with memtest 86. All the chips work fine one at a time, or in pairs in every socket.
My question is does anyone else have problems with 2 gigs of ram, and/or corsaid value select memory. Also is the value select with all four chip be supported soon?
    Thanks.

Try setting your timings to 2,5-3-3-7 , voltage to 2,75V in bios on next boot. That will probably do the trick.

  • 865PE best Ram?

I would love to hear about your experience with Ram.
I like to overclock 1:1 Ram/FSb divider cause i think it gives the best overall
results. So my normal value pc3200 ram is limiting me to about 215 FSB.
So iam now thinking about buying a pc 3500 or pc 4000 - 2 sticks of 512mb.
My current goal is about 230-240 FSB (3,45ghz - 3,6ghz) which should run fine
24/7 on air cooling for the normal daily use.
So please let me know a goo working ram (with a good buying value).
    Thanks.

You can read my signature as well. I am running 5:4 though and as you can see sestan's numbers are higher than mine. I have some of my O/C details over Here.

I have a function that worked pretty good until now processing a single records at the time, but now the application requirements has changed. It is required the same function to process any number of records that the application will enter as criteria. I tried to use a (ref)cursor, but I cannot use the returning value inside.
So, the chagne is below - instead of test_id = X, rownum <101 for example.
How can I make it work?

Got the same probs as you mate. Can't push my 3000+ much higher than 208mhz FSB either, it just resets and sometimes throw up errors when i try.
    My specs are as follows;
    AMD64 3000+ (Stock cooler)
    2x512 Geil Value pc3200 RAM
    K8N NEo Platinum
    2x 80gig Maxtor SATA (RAID 0)
    ATI 9800pro
Temp was really high (idle 49, load 59!) when i first got it but after changing to the 1.4 bios i get idle 36, load 45 now.
Strangely my system is not set at 200mhz FSB by default. When i try to go to default FSB or try 200Mhz FSB it sets to 201Mhz instead so my system is at 2010Mhz, I cant get 200Mhz bus! At this setting its really 'jumpy' when playing games i get little judders/pauses. When i overclock to 205mhz+ then it runs smooth as anything, it's really strange.
Well i've tried AGP at 67 and 68 no luck, moved SATA over to the 3/4 Ports, relaxed memory timings, upped voltage on both ram and CPU, removed drives, etc no luck at all :(
Temps are well within limits (Apart from this the system runs rock solid, primes at full load for 9+ hours overnight easy at 2080Mhz with temps reaching 49C, just absolutely no luck in overclocking any further.
I've decided to use this setup for a HTPC instead and build another with a DFI board and hopefully fare better next time.
