Megaworks 250D Subwoofer Problem

Hi
I have had my Megaworks 250D for quite a while. The problem is I have noticed that the subwoofer starts pushing a lot of air through the port when the volume of the sub is on max and the system very loud. The bass does not sound clean and doesn't sound right. The only way I can describe the sound is that it sounds punchy, if you know what I mean. I can also hear a slight hum from the sub again when the volume is max. Is this normal? I wouldn't expect a THX Certified speaker system to sound like this. Does it sound like I have a problem with the sub or amp? I have a Logitech Z-5300 on a another system and these are THX Certified too. The bass on the subwoofer on this system sounds much better at similar volumes. Can someone help?
Thanks in advance.

That is the problem though. The volume on the speaker is at the 4th LED setting out of 5.1 I use the volume control on my keyboard to adjust the soundcard's master volume. The punchy bass sound starts happening at just below 1/2 way on the soundcard's master volume. All my other volume settings on my soundcard are set to 50% (Wave, Midi, CD, etc). But like I was saying, if the speaker system was endorsed by THX, I wouldn't expect it to sound like that at such lowish volumes. If the volume was closer to the max then maybe and as I said before my Logitech Z-5300 THX speakers sound very clear at this volume and higher. Both the computers I have are identically specefied and set up the same way with the only differences being the speakers and monitors. Does it sound like the speakers are faulty?

  • Problems with Megaworks 250D

I'm having this problem: When I connect my Live 5.1 card to the st analog input of the speakers (Megaworks 250D) I hear no sound from the left speaker, but on the 2nd analog input it works fine.
At the same time, no matter what analog input it is, the right speaker sounds weaker and distorted. But when, instead of the sound card, I use some other source and connect it with the same cable, the right speaker sounds good.
I tried to change the cable, but it didn't help.
I really have no idea what's going on, I'd appreciate any help.

I bought mine 8 or 9 months ago and it worked fine until yesterday when I noticed this. I'd say something was wrong with the speakers, if there wasn't the weak bad sound coming from the Live 5.1 card (the old model, not this new 24-bit card) which is heard in right channel (I tested it with headphones too, the same thing happens), so I suspect that the sound card is having its own problems too and I'm gonna test everything again with another sound card.
However, when I tried using a different sound source I got the clean sound, only on right speaker with green input and on both speakers with white input. I couldn't really test the digital input, because with this Live 5.1 model and its drivers, digital output doesn't seem to work at all (I've heard the others couldn't make it work too, until they used some other drivers, but I didn't want to bother)...

  • Sony TV + Creative Soundworks Megaworks 250D 2.1 THX Speakers = HUM

I have a Sony KV29-LS60 TV. This TV has an audio out. When I have the TV connected to my Creative Soundworks Megaworks 250D 2.1 THX speakers, i can hear the sound, but there is also a loud hum coming from the speakers. When i connect my DVD player to the speakers with the same wires, there is no hum. Thus the wires are ok i think. When i unplug the antenna cable the hum remains. So the antenna cant be blamed too.
Can anybody think of a solution to this problem ?

I suspect your tv audio out grounding is at fault or even poor solder joint at the RCA to circuit board.

  • Creative Inspire T6200 Subwoofer Problem

    Hi,
I am using Creative T6200 speaker set for one weeks and I have a subwoofer problem.
    The problem definition:
-Nearly no sound from subwoofer (you hear it only when you close your ear on it)
-I didn't experienced or noticed the problem since yesterday. Yesterday while I was listening music on Winamp, the subwoofer sound suddenly disappeared. From that moment on, I was only able to hear the subwoofer two times but then it's sound disappeared again.
System specs and What I have done to solve:
-I have Vista 32 bit, Sound Blaster Live! 24 Bit, also another sound card (Realtek) embedded on my Asus motherboard, but this sound card is disabled from Bios.
-I am using the latest drivers.
-I tried various media players and some computer games but no change.
-This time I disable the SB Live!, and enable the Realtek sound card, but no change still.
-I had an old Philips 5.1 speaker system. When I plug it on, it's subwoofer works fine and loud, but when I plug T6200, it's doesn't!
Do you have any recommendation? I can't tell the problem is software or the hardware, maybe you can help me.
    Thanks...

I also have these speakers, but haven't had any problems so far.
    You could:
    - check if every cable is connected firmly to the subwoofer.
    - check your soundcard/media player settings: maybe the lower end of the equalizer has been killed, being the reason no sound comess from your sub.

  • Creative MegaWorks 250D, a little problem that sometimes is annoying.

This is no hissing problem, I just have a little bit hissing that is normal. The little problem I have is kind of hard to explain. Its very hard to hear it when listening to music, and I can hear it sometimes when playing games depending on which sounds appearing. I can hear it kind of good when listening to voices in games or a movie. Its like a background sound to the voices and it sounds like a light "wooming" and that is sometimes annoying. Its like a air sound, a light air sound... The sound doesnt come from the speakers because if I listen near the left or right speaker I cant hear it. Its when Im sitting in normal way in front of the speakers I can hear it so its probably the subwoofer. I have tried to move the subwoofer longer away from the speakers and I think that helped a little bit. Does anyone have any ideas? Does anyone have the same thing? Try to listen at the background of voices, it sounds like a "whoom" like a distortion or something.
    Regards Niklas.

I have SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS. Well, its hard to hear when listening to music. I like all kind of music but I listen most on metal right now. I will try to set those settings off if they are on.
Edit: Is this really hissing? This is more like a sound in the background of the sound that doesnt come from the speakers. The Creative Graphic Equalizer is off but what do you mean with SVM? Where do I find it's

  • Problem with Audio Input - Creative Megaworks 250D 2.1

Hello there, I've been trying to find some info on this on www and this board, but no result so far...
This is my main problem : Digital Input and Analogue input only plays right channel (left channel doesn't work).
Ie, left speaker doesn't produce any sound.
Analogue input 2 works completely fine, plays both channels as supposed so there's obviously no speaker/connection problem
(so I think it's the input - note that I used same cable for both analogue 1/2 when testing).
(Also, using headphones will produce same result, only right channel out for digital+analogue , work completely fine for analogue 2).
I think that I may happened to play both sound inputs (analogue/digital) simultanously at one point around the time when this
error started occuring. Can this have produced something? (why would it?)
    Is it possible to fix?
I should add I've tried turning the system off completely and even resting it a few days unplugged...
thank you in advance, hope someone replies
Message Edited by MrMarcusAur on 07-20-2009 06:28 AM

Update on the issue: if sound is being played at a "too low" volume (input via 2nd analogue input), eventually;the speaker system will remove left sound from left speaker (as with other two inputs) until I raise the volume quite a lot,
and it is "activated to play again" (after this I can lower the volume and it keeps playing, until cycle above repeats)
    Anyone has any clue?
    thanks

  • Creative Megaworks 250D 2.1 THX: How can I find a new remote control & spare satellite(s)?

    Hi all,
For years, we have owned and used one remarkable speaker set from Creative:
The Creative Megaworks (Cambridge Soundworks) 250D 2.1 THX-certified speakers!
I have no complaints. The sound this small 2.1 set produces is amazing! The 300 watts (RMS) power can shake the whole house - x50W + 2x75W are more than enough! Movies, music, games, everything sounds great - bass is deep and clear, mid-range is good, high frequences are clear! There's no noise and no distortion (I have connected the system to an SPDIF digital connector on my sound card), the Signal-to-Noise ratio is 99 dB, and the frequency response of the set is extremely good, too!
But I have a problem, now. We have broken, by accident, one of the satellites. Now I have only one satellite, and the bass/amplifier with the remote control... Looks like a . system... ;-)
This system was a present for us. Maybe we were lucky, but I am very happy with the build quality of this Creative spaker set. Until we have broken one of the satellites ourselves, yesterday, everything was OK, and the sound it produced was amazing all these years...
I tried to contact a Creative representative, asking if we can maybe order one (or two) spare satellites fot this set, but the only reply (up to now) was:
"You are out of warranty period. Buy a new speaker set."
    Well, we could, I guess...
    But:
First: Creative does not have (at present) a similar model, 2.1, THX certified, with digital (SPDIF input), 300W+ RMS, 99 dB Signal-to-Noise.
Second, to throw away such an amazing set just because there's one satellite broken? That would be such pity! :-(
I'd like to buy one (or two) new 250D satellites. I was thinking even that, in the worst case, I can maybe try to order 2 satellites from a Creative Gigaworks S750 set. They have very similar characteristics, 70W rms power, 8 ohms, so maybe this'll work. I was trying to check today if two satellites can be ordered, but with no luck up to now... :-(
Does anyone have any similar experience? What do you do if you accidentally have broken up one satellite from a 2./5./7. expensi've speaker set? Should you throw away the whole set? Try to find similar satellites?
I hope Creative support will help, but I don't have much hope, at present...
Does anyone have experience connecting an S750 satellite to a 250D system? Can I expect any problems? Or it'll work?
    Finally, just one more question:
    The remote control.
Currently, the remote control unit on our 250D model works OK. But I am a bit worried, if anything happens, that the speaker set can become useless. So I'd like to order one spare new remote control for this model, just in case. Can someone help?
Maybe, even if this speaker set is not produced anymore, a new remote control can be ordered from Creative?
I'd really like to make these 250D speakers produce great sound again!? I am a big Creative fan and Creative 250D 2.1 THX is one of the best sound systems I have ever owned (or heard) and I'd like to do everyting to fix things up...
    Thanks for all the help!
    Cheers! :-)
PS The satellites of the 250D look very much like these. But these Cambridge Soundworks satellites are more powerful (20W RMS); I was even thinking to order a pair of them, but not sure if they'll fit well. Maybe a pair of S750 satellites (70W RMS) is a better idea? But in any case, if I can find a new pair of satellites, what to do with the remote control?... Please, help!

After exchanging several messages with official Creative Support, I feel a bit disappointed... For years, I have believed that Creative is a company that makes amazing audio products. They probably still do, but now that I am a customer who owns an expensive product of theirs, but with expired warranty, they don't want even to suggest a solution that can work for both parties!
Why is Creative Support so un-supportive? :-( I am still a Creative customer, after all, right?
My communication with Support went nowhere. After it was established that our 250D system is out of warranty period (it is only 2 years, btw), they refused to sell me a replacement satellite (even if they still may have some left in stock, for such cases)!
Finally, I found S700 satellites on ebay and I hope that 2 of them will fit well with the 250D system. Impedance of 250D satellites is 8 ohms (S700 satellites are 8 ohms, too), power is almost the same (250D satellites are 75W rms, and S700 are 70W rms), Signal-to-Noise of both systems is 99 dB, and frequency response is similar, too (250D satellites should be around 50Hz - 8 kHz, I think, and S700 should be around 50Hz - 20 kHz).
Well, my final 'point of worry' was that if anything happens with the remote control, we won't be able to switch on/off the system, even if the sub/amplifier works. So, I tried to ask Support just to sell me one new remote control, if they can. To sell, not to give for free, mind this! ;-)
    They refused!
My e-mails are either left un-answered, or the only kind of reply I get is 'We can offer you 10% off our new products'. Well, I don't want to buy a whole new expensi've system, if I can just get 1-2 replacement parts for my old one, and have it working for years! :-)
(Imagine you buy an expensive DSLR camera, you break the LCD screen, and imagine how Canon or Nikon refuse to sell you a replacement LCD, because you're out of warranty! I can't imagine that!)
Well, with Creative it looks like this works only this way: Buy a new system. While speaker system is within its warranty period, Creative may replace defecti've and/or broken parts. Once system is out of warranty period, you can simply throw the system away, as Creative will not sell you replacement parts, no matter how politely you ask (and no matter if such parts are available at Creative or not)!
I hope I will be able to use our 250D system for some more time (after the satellites arrive). I don't know how I can find a new remote control, just to be on the safe side.
And I am not sure I will buy Creative product next time. I will carefully look around and maybe will pick up a product from a company which will offer me not only warranty support, but out-of-warranty support, too. That would be wise.
I like how the high-end Creative speaker systems sound. I simply cannot understand how this company can be successful, if they make such great products, but then refuse to help its customers, when they have problems... :-(

  • Megaworks 250D occasional crackling noise

i have recently bought the megaworks 2.1 250D speakers and have noticed that about every half hour when im listening to music, the speakers crackle for about a second. . i have checked all the wiring connections but this doesn't help. its strange because the crackling happens almost every half hour...
why does this happen and how do i eliminate the crackiling? the speakers are connected to my notebook via the sound blaster audigy 2 zs card. when listeing to music through the notebook speakers, i do not experience the crackling.
since the sepakers are brand new and is 'THX' certified i wouldnt have thought there would be any problems. there is also alot of hiss coming from the speakers (which is hard to believe at the price i bought the speakers) which i have successfully minimized by positioning the speakers in a certain way.
    thanks for any replies

Regarding your hissing sound, your pc volume might had set too high probably around 90% and above region. Also check your treble level which also adds in to the hissing.

  • I-Trigue Mysterious Subwoofer Problem?

Hi, I have a Creative I-Trigue and my subwoofer has become very crackly when I put the bass up. It can handle a very small amount, but gets progressively more crackly as I turn it up. I have taken off the fabric cover and looked at the rubber bass thing and it seems like this is where the problem lies, as the crackling reduces if I put my finger on it (although so does the bass so its not a solution), and it seems perfectly stuck on and well-sealed, and I can't see any tears or cuts on it. I have also taken out all the screws and tried to open up the main body to look further inside, but it seems pretty much impossible to take off as it is so tightly fitted, and all I can do is pull out the speaker a little bit from its hole - again, I can't see any problems with this component. Is anybody familiar with this model, or just the generics of subwoofers, and could maybe point me to the solution? Money is tight at the moment and I can't afford to have it fixed, so I was hoping there'd be a DIY way. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, whether they be for a way to open the whole thing up or to fix the problem. I'm not well-informed of how it all works, but from my perspectivei it just seems like it is vibrating too hard, possibly catching on something, though I can't see what? It used to work fine on this same laptop, so I don't think its a soundcard issue. Thanks in advance if you can help me, will do anything I can to return the favour...

    Glenhollow,
I think there may be a hardware problem with your speakers. The best bet would be to contact support and arrange a repair/replacement for them. Here is their contact page: http://us.creative.com/support/custsup

  • Question about MegaWorks 250D Speakers

This is weird. I am getting sound from my subwoofers but no sound is coming from the two speakers. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I have an Audigy 2 ZS card.

    Mattrc,
Have you try both the Audio Input and 2 on the subwoofer? Do they show the same symptom also? If yes then most likely the speaker is faulty. I would suggest contacting support for services.

  • Inspire T7900 and realtek AC97 subwoofer problems

    Hi everyone,
I am not sure if anyone had the same problem, I recently purchased a set of 7.1 T7900 and I have a Realtek AC97 on board card.
The subwoofer works for some time then stop, then it goes again. I tried all the configuration possible, I updated the drivers. I even tried another computer (unfortunately another realtek for laptop). I swapped cables, I used another cable.
I can't figure out what makes it stop (or working).
Sometimes it works fine other time just refuse to work. All the other speakers are working fine. Just the sub.
I am not quite sure if is the sound board or a faulty subwoofer.
I tried everything but i still cannot link why it does this.
If anyone can help or have a suggestion it'll be appreciate!
    thanks

try a computer with a sound blaster or something .. but from what your saying it could be a faulty woofer .. go to the service and let them check it.. it cant hurt

  • Subwoofer Problems with iTunes

I'm having problems with itunes working with my new speakers. The speakers are Logitech Z-2300's. The subwoofer hums loudly everytime the bass comes on in a song (and hence the sub doesn't actually produce any of the song). At first I was worried it was because the subwoofer is damaged but after testing it with my laptop (which was also using itunes) and it working ok I realised the speakers are fine. So I then wondered if it was my desktop unit which was malfunctioning but when i tried to play the exact same song using Windows Media Player on the computer with the speakers there was no problem at all. I have removed itunes and re-installed it but the same problem is occurring. I am using itunes version 7.5.0.20, my computer is running SP2 of Windows XP Pro. Can anyone please help?

I don't know anything about sub woofers, but this sounds like it is worth looking at your Quicktime preferences.
    Quicktime>>Prefernces>>Quicktime Prerferences>>Audio tab>>Select Audio Playback and recording devices>>Advanced.
There you will find some speaker options that may help.

  • MSI GT660 Subwoofer Problems (Windows7)

Hi, i was hoping someone here could help me with a problem i have in windows 7 32bit
It seems when i installed the Realtek HD sound drivers for GT660 from MSI's site it cannot detect or see any subwoofer in the sound manager tools
But when i use the standard Microsoft HD sound drivers i can now see 3 "Speakers" in the Sound Manager, one that is disabled, another that is my subwoofer and a 3rd that is my front speakers, however i can only choose one of these in windows 7, so either i go full Subwoofer speaker or Full Front speakers (No Bass)
I also tried updating to the official Realtek drivers from Realtek's site and its the same as the drivers from MSI's site... no subwoofer detected, and no sound comes from the subwoofer. And it doesnt help choosing 5.1 or 7.1 settings in the Realtek HD-Audio Configuration, ive been testing all possible settings :(
Does anyone have simular problems and know how to fix this ?

SCM and all other software/drivers from MSI was already installed. I dont know of it was because i was running 32bit windows...
But after using the F3 Restore feature and putting it all back to the way it was when i bought it - it works.
Running 64bit windows with only 4gb ram isnt optimal tho ... but i can live with it as long as the subwoofer works, the sound is awsome.
ps. it still doesnt recognize that i have a subwoofer in any of the sound managers, but it seems to use my subwoofer as a part of the 2 front speakers.
