Megaworks HISSING real solution

I wanted to give you guys a possible (tested) solution for this problem because I guess I'm not alone with terrible hissing sound problem out there. It was driving me mad as well Mind you, I am using 3(?) year old Megaworks 50D speakers which worked like magic from day one. Recently they developed the infamous hissing sound. NO it's not how expensi've speakers should work and NO it's not solved (fully) by soldering in a resistor on your speaker power cable. After trying all the obvious solutions I came to a conclusion, that the cause of the hissing sound was located inside the subwoofer cabinet.
To make a long story short, you get hissing on your speakers because of faulty or failing capacitors on your subwoofer internal electronics power supply (at least in my case). This is easy enough to fix by yourself if you have basic soldering skills. You can even check the faulty capacitors with your finger. They have a bulge on the back side (facing you). There are a total of three large capacitors in the Megaworks 50D power supply. Two were failing in mine. I replaced the one that had the larger bulge (because the other one was not immediately availably in my local electronics store, had to order) and the hissing sound went away. I'll replace the second one as well as soon as it arri'ves, but even now I'm not getting any noticeable hiss. The price for both capacitors should not exceed $0.

On a side note...
I blame Creative, of course I wonder how they (speakers) held out for that long since they don't even have a human accessible on/off switch which forces me to leave them on all the time. Almost forgot, my volume control failed on the Megaworks as well Along with my failing Audigy Platinum which kept crashing my pc every time I switched cables, **bleep**ty drivers for all these years(!), all I can say is that my trust and respect for Creative has dropped considerably. I switched to using on-board Realtek sound solution, just because I couldn't stand any more of that bull**bleep** (yeah, even these simple Reaktek drivers are better But what can I say... I still can't get enough of that lovely Megaworks sound

When it started it was at 10.4.11. The Rep had never scene that before and transferred me to a higher level a second time.
Long story, short.... I had to start from scratch with a fresh drive and all.

Not a problem when using iPhoto on a Mac, which the transfer of photos is primarily based on - not manually managing photo storage as seems to be common with Windoze.
The same should be available with a supported photo management app on a PC.

I have been using it for about 6 years. One of the hdds have been attached for 4years via FW400.
I recently upgraded with no problem from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8. At the same time I went from ProTools 6.9.2 le to Protools 8 le.
I have played sessions from a new external, mercury enclosed, hitachi enterprise hdd and the old hdd. But when i tried to reformat the mercury it would not UNMOUNT. That was last week.
Today I got a g-drive brand new and it does the same.
I have tried Terminal with commands :

I got these methods from the old post. Nothing works and now all of my drives do the same.
What is the real solution for this?

  • Is .mac the only real solution

Is the .mac system the only "real" solution to true mobile computing with my iPhone?
I am a paid up member of Yahoo Mail, which I love; my whole life (emails, contacts, calendar) is run through this and has been for years. I was hoping for a sensible degree of integration with the iPhone given Apple & Yahoo are working together.
    The reality seems to be:
-> I can get Yahoo mail on my iphone (but there are reliability issues I believe)
-> I can sync my contacts, but only using iTunes with Yahoo
-> I can not sync my Yahoo calendar with the iphone at all!!
I think GMail and Hotmail will have the same issues.
My only issue with .Mac is that it can not have my own email address (domain), I could maybe tell everyone my new email (and forward emails from my old address). BUT...there are just no sensible usernames left on .mac -- (unless you want a string of numbers after your address)
So really, the big question....can I sync Yahoo (or something else) with ALL the apps on the iPhone, or do I need to give into a .mac account?

  • Wrong PSN account linked, cannot unlink and cannot find a real solution

I am having a seemingly common issue that appears to have no real solution. I had previously linked my account to my PS3 but when I sold my PS3 to get a PS4 I did not disconnect it because usually when you sign up and pay money for an online service, you assume that you will be able to use it anywhere. The PS3 is now formatted and somewhere with gamestop so there is no way to access it to disconnect. There is no way to do it from Spotify.com (which I can't really figure out how that makes sense), customer support at playstation does not even understand what the problem is, and spotify has no phone number to call which is rediculous, I know. The only way to get help from spotify is from the "contact form" which is no help. Does anyone know how to get this fixed or how to get a response out of spotify to bring this issue to attention to them?

    Hey there !
I deeply apologize for my previous post. I gained the knowledge from previous experience using my PS3 and Spotify account. After doing more research, I know what to do! If you formatted your PS3, don't worry about that PS3 as it no longer has access to your PlayStation account which is linked to your Spotify account. What needs to happen is if you haven't already, just contact Spotify directly through the online contact form saying you would like your account disconnected from all third party applications. They'll be able to sign you out of every connected application. I looked around and at this time, the developers don't allow users to manually disconnect. If you have already contact Spotify through the contact form, let me know the 8-digit case number and I'll make sure it gets to the right team!

  • Post when a REAL solution to headphone issue is released

I've had the same problem as everyone when using the shuffle for running. I think there are enough posts to validate this as a design flaw.
Would someone (maybe from Apple) post here when Apple releases a REAL solution. (Not a duct tape, saran wrap, cotton ball temporary "fix", but a real permanent solution.)
    Thanks,

Good to hear new buds working well.. Still think controls s/b added to device so when your waiting for APPLE to replace your buds, you can still use and control the shuffle with whatever buds you want to use... My Senns and B&Os blow away all APPLE Buds....Still find it hard to believe that I need to buy an adapter on top of the shuffle to use the new shuffle.. Bottom line, the new shuffle is not on my radar at this time.. APPLE needs to think about the cost of replacing their own buds.. I think it will eventually catch up to them.. So if the buds don't work for the next 2 years, APPLE will keep replacing them each month, week, days, etc.. lets see cost of 24 buds???? Interesting..

  • How much megaworks hissing

    hi,
I 've bought megaworks thx550 about a week ago. Quite dissappointed with the constant hissing sound that comes from the speakers. I can easly hear the sound about a meter distance.
By the way, hissing is unrelated to the sound card. It comes even if i mute the sound form the remote.
My question is how much noise (hissing) is normal for megaworks? I need to know this because i am in desperate stuation. Where i li've, in Turkey, creative's support next to nothing. I am trying return my set, but they say the noise is normal.

the hissing is actually a normal thing...
it even happens with the most expensi've speakers...
even with the most expensi've stereo and speakers, you will still here a hissing noise.
you should of heard the hissing noise i had before my Creative Megaworks THX 250D Speakers died.

  • There must be a real solution to "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error installing"

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error installing"
I've spent hours researching this error - Seems like many people have the same issue although there is no difinitive fix or known cause.
I'm hoping someone here has an answer.
Windows 7 Home Premium x64 OEM (HP)
This is not an upgraded Vista system.
It's not a specific driver related issue as it's the same response/effect be it graphics/chip set/usb/printer drivers.
Please dont suggest to flatten and re-install or run a repair install - It's not an option, I only have remote access to the unit
as it's currently in field use.
This is a machine specific issue - identical machine purchased at the same time and configured the same has no issue.
    So the story.
User has been fine for weeks - no hardware of software changes except Windows Updates.
A Camera/USB connection that was working no longer does.
    Tried in all USB ports
Plug in - windows announces found new hardware, tries to install drivers then fails
with "Windows found software for your device but encountered an error installing ...."
Device manager finds and identifies device although it is in the 'Unknown Device" category.
Manually updating drivers via search/internet or point directly at a driver has exactly the same effect.
Thinking this was just the camera drivers - I researched and downloaded new drivers from camera manufacturers sites
    Fuji and Canon.
    Same effect.
Deleted/uninstalled drivers completely, deleted/uninstalled all USB root hub and USB devices (hidden and visible)
    SFC /Scannow finds no error
Cold boot finds USB and chipset(?) devices on boot attempts to reinstall then we get
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error installing"
So now I have no usb devices at all - memory stick/card reader/printer...... nada.
in fact if I try to update any device driver I get the same message generated.
Restore point does not help either.
After much trawling I found reference to a permisions issue and stale driver cache data.
(This is using an administrator account - not user with admin permissions?)
I'm willing to try anything at this time
I deleted the infcache.1 and other .dat files under c:\windows\system32\driverstore
Copied the usb  .inf and .pnf from the appropriate FileRepository directory into c:\windows\inf
Uninstalled all the usb/unkown devices from device manager again.
    Rebooted
Takes a little longer to boot as I take it it's rebuilding the driver cache then
    a very short hurrah!!!
I can now use usb memory card and pen drives - no issue
Plug in a camera or printer...
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error installing"
Several attempt at this trying different driver versions.
It should not be vendor specific, the other field machine that works is using Microsoft drivers for these devices.
I even copied the drivers from one machine to the other - repeated everything above...
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error installing"
And then the nail in my sanity
    Try windows update....
    Reboot
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error installing"
    but this time its different.
The device it thinks it cannot install is the generic MTP-PTP drivers  (Photo Transfer Protocol -so am I getting somewhere)
so it still finds but cannot install.
The cameras are always found but appear as 'unknown devices' and cannot be accessed
Uninstall all USB/unkown again - reboot..
Same message and this time I've lost all the USB again.
Restore point to before Win Update gets me USB back again although I still have no cameras  - so theres an update issue as well.
This has to be tied down to a file access/ registry problem although I'm loath to go cutting about without some guidance.
I'm no great believer in 'registry cleaners' unless anyone can point to a definitive/no ad's/sales version that really works.
As I said above, flattening/rebuild at this time is not an option - the user is not best pleased and I'm completley stumped.
If anyone has experienced(manu of you have) and fixed(still to find one) this issue please let me know how as soon as possible.
    Chris

I know I am replying to an old thread - but I have the answer and resolved this error, and since this message comes up first in search results, and part of my answer came from this thread, I wanted to help someone else as this took an extra
12 hours and a lot of technical insight to resolve. See below for detailed explanation that others ask for above.
My original issue was that iTunes didnt reinstall. generating this error that said I am trying to access an unavailable network resource and to browse to find itunes64setup (again). This may partly have been due to me deleting old install version folders.
Research led me to completely uninstall apple products and reinstall per their instruction and fixed the issue with iTunes. see
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support
The SAME error I had while updating itunes recurred while uninstalling it from my Windows 7 SP1 system...so I went to microsoft Fixit and attempted to correct and it properly uninstalled iTunes for me, which allowed the reinstall.
What didnt work was my USB web root/ root hub, which partly involved my older system and USB 1.0, and the delete/reinstall existing drivers with the c:\windows\winsxs folder as source of drivers (thank you Magon Liu!!!) which I had to figure out what/why
    and how.
Then I had an intel chipset issue...my new Iphone wasn't recognizing in plug and play, and there was an error with installing the device drivers for my new iphone 6. Manual applications didn't work, even though a generic device showed in control panel -
device manager with a yellow !
Per above blog answer - I tried to remove and reinstall my USB controller or update the drivers (I have an Alienware M15 laptop - a few years old.) I discovered that the USB host controller - an Intel(R) 5 Series / 3400 Series Chipset family USB Enhanced
Host controller - (port) was not covered by current Intel chipset programs which are Series 6 and later, but did have an update (8/20/2009 v9.1.1.1020)  that supported USB 2.0 (and therefore 3.0 backwards compatibility which as an issue with my new iPhone
and some USB thumb drives.) To find this I had to look at the Support - Downloads and Drivers - browse for drivers and somewhere found an option to look for older no longer supported drivers. I found infinst_autol.exe for my case.
Once downloaded I tried to install and failed. Found the log in C:\Intel\Logs and contains:
    [InstallDev]
              [Device]
                Driver = C:\Users\DAVIDS~1\AppData\Local\Temp\IPMx7\WIN7\ibexusb.inf
                INF = C:\Users\DAVIDS~1\AppData\Local\Temp\IPMx7\WIN7\ibexusb.inf
                Installed INF =

    !           Warning 0xE0000235: DriverPackageGetPath failed.
                Difx = 64 bit
    Execute command: C:\Users\DAVIDS~1\AppData\Local\Temp\IPMx7\x64\Difx64.exe -DriverInf "C:\Users\DAVIDS~1\AppData\Local\Temp\IPMx7\WIN7\ibexusb.inf" -Flags 20 -KeyPath "Software\Intel\Difx64"
                Using RegDeleteKeyEx
!!!         ERROR 0xE0000246: DriverPackageInstall generated an unexpected error
HERE'S THE ADDED EXPLANATION TO BRIAN'S POST THAT EXPLAINS THE SECURITY ISSUE:
This turned out to be an error for two reasons. First, after manually running the command in an "run as administrator" window (same error result), thinking it related to my anti-virus (turned that off/disabled firewall and A/V), and from this thread
granting my user administrative rights to files in an install folder and trying to reinstall inf files and drivers from C:\Windows\winsxs vs my copied infinst_autol.exe expansion (as found from log in C:\Users\David Samuels\AppData\Local\Temp\IPMx7\WIN7 folder).....that
there was an easier solution as the reason this error actually happens is a permissions problem.
To access the proper windows system folders - you have to be the TrustedInstaller service - not just in the administrator group...or you have to be the actual "Administrator" account. To become actual administrator on
your own laptop, Open a command window "run CMD.exe as administrator", then execute command
    > net user administrator /active:yes
This creates a local PC Administrator account with no password. Coincidentally it has proper permissions to windows directories for installing drivers. Log in as this user, go to device manager and update the USB hub and any other drivers. if updating the
USB root - it doesn't replace it right away as the system cant disable the currently resident in memory "running" driver  - you have to update, then restart the system, log in as administrator and repeat at the next lower layer that has issues.
Once completed - log in as yourself again and disable the administrator account in a command window with > net user administrator /active:no
This in my case enabled all my USB 2.0 and 3.0 devices on my originally only USB 1.0 laptop and everything else works properly again - I hope this helps many of you to resolve your own issues that were difficult to find and resolve and that got as far as
    this thread. Good luck!

  • The System.keychain Conundrum:  THE REAL SOLUTION.

Symptom: After applying an update or some kind of instance where a shutdown occurred, upon rebooting, Mac OS X will demand a password for System.keychain. No password will ever work, not even root.
I had this happen to me and no one anywhere seemed to know how to fix it except for temporary workarounds that really didn't work.
First off, let me tell you what WON'T work as a solution:
    1. Deleting offending AirPort network passwords in System.keychain - All you're doing is making OS X forget the passwords of those base stations in your Preferred Networks list (Network Preferences). If you attempt to put the passwords back and apply the changes, OS X will again demand the password for System.keychain.
    2. Keychain First Aid - It will think that nothing is wrong with System.keychain, so as long as it is there.
    3. Repair Permissions - Everyone believes that repairing permissions is the cure-all method for any problem with Mac OS X. It won't work because it already has the correct permissions (root:admin 755).
    4. Deleting System.keychain itself - You won't ever get it back, and any base station added to your list of trusted networks will not have its password saved. Sure, it may save for YOUR login.keychain, but what if you have multiple users?
    5. Replacing System.keychain with another from a known good system - This doesn't work either, and I'll explain why a little later.
    6. Deleting /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist - That has nothing to do with the problem.
    7. Duplicating your login.keychain and renaming it as System.keychain - Sure, you'll be able to unlock it with your admin password, but that doesn't solve the problem.
No one - not even from Apple themselves (phone reps and store Genius
Bars) - knew how to fix this issue. Google or search the discussion boards all you want; you'll be wasting your time as no one really seems to know what the problem is and have employed one of those seven methods.
    NOW FOR THE SOLUTION...
WARNING: This assumes that you are competent with the command line AND you have a working copy of OS X somewhere else nearby, preferably on an external disk partition. I'm not going to explain the basics of using the Terminal or how to access both of your systems at the same time. If you are afraid of screwing up, simply reinstall Mac OS X and say a few prayers that it will fix itself (assuming that another Software Update won't mess it up again).
The problem lies with a file deep in the bowels of OS X. It's /var/db/SystemKey. What it does is that it tells Mac OS X how to unlock the system keychain. It only knows the System.keychain specific to the computer, so if you import another System.keychain as a replacement, SystemKey won't know how to unlock it and you'll keep getting the annoying dialogs prompting for System.keychain's password.
So without further ado, this is how to stop the annoying dialogs once and for all:
    1. AS THE ROOT USER, you will need to copy over /var/db/SystemKey from a known good system to your problematic system. Make sure that you preserve the permissions (0400). It is advisable that you are NOT booted from your problematic system.
    2. If you have a good System.keychain, copy that over to /Library/Keychains on the problem system. If you accidentally deleted System.keychain, you can execute the following (again AS ROOT):
    /usr/sbin/systemkeychain -C -f
This creates a new, working, empty System.keychain and effectively overwrites the old keychain.
    3. Reboot to your system. You will be presented with different, more familiar (Change, Change All) dialogs. If you had any passwords saved in your list of preferred networks, just put them back in.
    Best of luck.

A method that worked for me (and many others):
Delete the wireless router entry from the System keychain (do not just delete the password). The entry will automatically get re-created from the similar entry in the login (user) keychain. This solution was posted here within a few days of the release of 10.4.3.

  • IMovie '09 Unable to import to network home - need real solution

We have a small educational network of just over 40 macs (20 of which are MacBooks, 20 iMacs) and 1 Xserve. Since the update to iMovie '09 no network users are able to make use of iMovie due to the "Can't Create Event" error (no permissions to write to /iMovie Events.localized) which is well documented.
The one solution I can find is well documented and quite easy to accomplish with ARD, but it involves creating a local folder on the root of each machine's hard drive to store iMovie events! This is unfortunately completely useless to us. The entire point of having network home folders in the first place is so that any student or staff member can work on any system.
Does anyone have a solution which actually works in this situation?

The tip form the above article is to do the following in Terminal
defaults write -app iMovie allowNV -bool true
I am not sure if the other responders have tried it yet. I do have my own tip. The problem is similar to other programs I have come across not working properly with network home directories, e.g. Adobe Acrobat Pro. I discovered that several of these badly written programs will work with network home directories with no complicated adjustments if you share the network home directories via NFS instead of AFP.
To do this you will need to edit the share properties, and then reselect the home directory location for each user account in Workgroup Manager. The old afp home directory path would look something like
    afp://server.example.com/Volumes/Users
the new NFS path would look something like
    nfs://server.example.com/Volumes/Users
Workgroup Manager will continue to list the old AFP style path until you have changed all the users to the new path.
Might be worth trying with a test user account.

  • Help please, I need a REAL solution to make the audigy 2 wo

After a serious crash and a format i've been trying to install the audigy 2, i have looked everywhere for the original cd but it's gone.
After a long search i found the full install on the net but it says i don't have a audigy installed and then continues with installing mediasource.
I've allready switched the card to another pci slot but no success.
All i want is the actual 5 speakers and subwoofer to work and have the surround mixer. Now only the front speakers work.
I'm fed up with creative and this surely is the last product i'll ever buy from them but as long as i can't afford a good card i need this to work. Is it so hard for them to have ALL drivers on the site instead of updates that are useless without the core?
So please, if anyone knows a solution, let me know.

    Hi
    Sounds reallyyyyy bad!
more try before going to M-Audio
Go to installation CD or package \Audio\Setup -folder and open setup.ini (notepad).
Is App name the one it should be (Sound Blaster Audigy 2 or something). This ensures
you have the right installation package there.
Uninstall Creative drivers using Driver Cleaner. You can download it by following the link.
After Cleaning, check if there is no Creative folder on 'Program Files' folder.
Delete Creative -folder if there is one.
    Uninstall/remove card from device manager.
    Reboot
When OS prompts; it has found a new PCI device, select cancel.
Start Creative Audigy Driver/software installation by running setup.exe (located on
Audigy CD's root folder), or START.EXE (located on CD's \CTRun -folder).
    Reboot when asked.
This is the way (logic) it should get working! If it won't then there was that link
at the very beginning of my message.

  • Has anyone found a real solution to low call volume on the 4s?

Has anyone actually solved this issue? I'm really not sure if it's a hardware issue or a software issue, and I'm nowhere near an apple store. It started out of the blue about a month ago. Speaker phone works fine, but the earpiece is pretty much useless.

For software related issues you can try a backup and then restore. If you are unable to restore normally due to errors then you can try placing the device into recovery mode.
If the issue is not resolved by doing this then it is most likely hardware related. You'll need to arrange a service with Apple to have it repaired, if you are unable to get to an Apple Store you can call AppleCare you may be able to setup a repair over the phone via mail in/courier.

  • Has anyone found a real solution yet?

About that whole error thing to the store? The one about an unknown error... check your connection.... Its starting to get really irritating.

Problems connecting to the iTunes Music Store also often stem from issues with the Windows firewall, a privacy filter (such as McAfee Internet Privacy Service or Norton Internet Security) or a download accelerator. Start here:
iTunes for Windows: Overview of Music Store Errors
for some basic tips to start isolating the cause of the problem. What you need to do is temporarily disable any such service and see if that fixes the problem. If so, then if it's a firewall/Internet filter that's causing the problem and you'll need to set the offending service to allow iTunes to connect to the iTunes Music Store.
    Hope this helps.
