  • Unable to format Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 to Mac OS Extended (HFS+)

I have a Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 flash drive that is 64GB, it used to work properly when i bought it few months ago (formatted to Mac OS Extended [HFS+] file system). Then there was this one day when all out of a sudden it just stopped working properly, it wouldn't access the data when i plug it into my Macbook Pro, it just says that 'The disk you inserted was not readable by the computer' and the only choices were to initialise (brings up disk utility), ignore or eject. I tried to format it back to HFS+ (Mac OS Extended Journaled) but it always gets stuck halfway during 'partitioning' and the estimated time seems to always get longer and longer (i tried leaving it overnight for it to format but in the morning it was still stuck at the 'partitioning' process, and the estimated time has gone up to 7 hours! I tried formatting it to ExFAT and the formatting completed very quickly (within a minute or so) but the problem with this format is that it wouldn't remount (the computer cannot read it even though i plugged and unplugged it multiple times). I next tried to format it to MS-DOS (FAT 32) and this time it worked fine, it was able to remount itself properly after formatting. I am able to format it to ExFAT using a windows PC but the read and write times was horrible (on both macs and PCs). This was not the case before all of this went wrong. My external hard drive was also faulty (read error) but i managed to format it back to HFS+ without difficulty. Is there anything wrong with my computer or flash drive? Any help would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.

It's a driver error on the Guest OS that you installed yourself. Is it Windows or Linux? Try to update it and it should solve the issue for you.

  • Sandisk extreme 64gb (copy n reading less than 30 mb)

HI  I have recently purchased sandisk extreme 64 gb through ebay .But i am really disappointed by its perfomance its coping files over the speed of 24 mb .my usb came with file system exfat but i formatted it because of its slow perfomance .Now i have formated it to fat32 file system but still it has the same slow speed. I have updated my drivers but no result Please if any one can help

Most laptops have BOTH USB 2 and USB 3 ports On my lenovo the ports on the right are 2.0 and the ports on the left are 3.0.  Check and VERIFY that the extreme is in a 3.0 port. FWIW - Windows SHOULD give the "This device can perform faster..." message ballon if you plug into a 2.0 port

I am happy with a 240/250 GB SSD but unsure which model would suit best. Because of the SATA II limitation what benefit would i see with a higher end EXtreme Pro SSD over a cheaper model?
The higher end SSDs have higher IOPS than the lower end SSDs so you would see a little snapper response from the OS but the over all throughput would still be limited to SATA II speed due to the SATA interface of the computer.
Because the SATA is II can you just half the SATA III performance spec for a SSD interfaced to a SATA II controller ? Will it not run at the 3 GB limit ?
Overall throughput will be limited to 3Gb theoretical. You will probably see close to 300MB/s
Without the sandisk software tools for Mac how can i update the SSD's firmware using a bootable USB stick, my CD/DVD drive has stopped functioning ?
SanDisk provides a downloadable DMG that can be put on a USB drive for FW update http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16966/
I am interested in sandisk because of TRIM support on both the SSD and OSX 10.10.4.

  • Nikon D800 raw files taken with Sandisk extreme plus 32GB SDHC card got corrupted. Able to preview them in Lightroom4.4 Library, but not able to import or transfer the files from card to computer. Any ideas on how to save images from Library Window in Lig

Hi, I have shot few pictures on 31st December night in RAW mode using Nikon D800 and Sandisk extreme plus 32GB SDHC card. It looks like card got some memory errors so not able to transfer the files from Card to computer. However I am able to view the pics thru Lightroom ver 4.4 Library, but when I tried to import them, it gives me an error stating that file can't be read.
Is there a way to save the pics from Library window in lightroom overcoming the card read errors ?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi SSPRENGEL,
Thank you for your response. Here is the error message I am receiving, I tried with various destination folders in the computer but it still gives the same error:. Just to let you know, I am able to import pictures into these folders from other memory cards.
I am able to finally at least extract the jpgs using the option suggested by elie-d

Why won't my new Airport Extreme recognize my USB external hard drive.  I put a USB port on the base station, and the system recognizes my printer.  When I click on disks - it lists my printer, and when I click on Printers it lists my printer.  What do I need to do to get it to recognize the external drive?  BTW, the MacBook recognizes it, no problem.  I have erased it and reformatted it.  I am running the new Lion OS.  Any help is appreciated.

Yes, I saw a post on one of these threads about a powered USB hub so I ran over to Office Depot and picked one up.  I was finally able to see the HD in the Airport Utility.  Yay!

  • SanDisk Extreme Pro ExpressCard wont install ... ?

    All,
I have an older (2007) MacBook Pro lying around that I am attempting to turn into a "media" station for managing digital photos and whatnot. To make this work, I needed to (1) install Windows 7, and (2) get a reader that would let me access my SD cards. Installing Windows went OK with bootcamp and all that, but having some issues with the SanDisk Extreme® Pro™ Express Card™ Adapter for SDHC/SDXC UHS-I cards. I have followed the directions explicitly outlined in the installation manual, but nothing seems to work.
My question is, do these ExpressCard ports ever "go bad"? I can't think of another reason why this won't work out of the box.
Interested in any insight from others that have tried this hardware or have had similar issues with ExpressCards not working under Windows on Mac hardware.
    Cheers-
    S.B.

Thanks to all of you who pinged me off-line about this.
Apparently, the current version of BootCamp (3.1) does not have suitable Windows drivers for the ExpressCard hardware slot, makeing it uselss under Windows. Here is one such thread that discusses:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12518382?messageID=12518382
Perhapd in a future release of BootCamp this issue will be resolved. Anyone have other thoughts before I close out this thread?

  • Early 2009 Mac Pro with SSD Sandisk Extreme

    Hi everyone,
Just had a quick question for anyone who may know...
I recently did the SDD upgrade for my mac pro (4,1) and bought a Sandisk Extreme SSD 120 GB, and the OWC sled for the drive. Installed a fresh install of ML and tested the drive with the Black Magic Speed tester. I am getting around 127MBs write speeds and 259 MBsRead speeds. This seems slow considering the drive has speeds of up to 6GBs and SATAII can go up to 3GBS. Is this a correct speed? Or is my disk faulty? Granted it is faster that a 7200 HDD drive, although not by much according to my testing. Am I missing something here? Any insight is much apperciated.

icy dock can cause it to eject, fail, nothing to do with our limited I/O

  • Consistently crashing with 12GB Sandisk Extreme III

    Hello,
I'm having a real frustrating problem with my 12gb sandisk card. When I have Lightroom open and mount the card Lightroom will immediately lock up.
I can insert my other cards and they work fine (sandisk extreme III 2gb, sandisk ultra II 1gb)
Any idea why this is happening? And is there a way to stop it?
I am looking for a solution beyond what i've done up to this point, which is to close LR, dump the card to my desktop, then import the photos from there. It's kind of a head-ache/time-waster, and would like to figure out what's really going on.
    HELP! and thanks,
    -kyle

If LR crashes while in the middle of an import from the card, you will quite likely loose some data.
Perhaps you had a bad experience, but I would not expect a loss of any data caused by LR crashing during import--certainly not a "quite likely" loss.  BTW, I assume you're referring to a loss of data (corruption) on the card itself.

  • Sandisk extreme firewire reader not working on new MBP models(unibody))

    hey all,
so I have the sandisk extreme firewire CF reader since 2008. It works great on my 15" Macbook Pro2.2 (C2D 2.16ghz)
Recently(actually in march) I purchased the new thunderbolt 15" MacbookPro(2.2GHz).
At first the firewire card reader works fine on the new MBP. But somehow in May it stopped working(running SL). The CF card wouldnt mount, in System Profile it wouldn't even display the device. Even after I installed Lion it still wouldnt work. The only way for it to work is to daisychain it onto a firewire external harddrive and hook it up to the macbookpro.
It's super weird. I've contacted sandisk's web support(WHAT?! only web support but no phone, for such a big company?!), they said it was use the card-reader was due to power issues and told me to contact Apple to resolve the issue.
I later on tried the card reader on numberious mac's. Turns out that most Unibody machines wont work with it.(the weird thing is, when i just got my Thunderbolt unibody, it worked perfectly fine, for a while) But back on my old Macbook Pro2,2 from 2007(which is currently running OSX 10.6.8), it's works like a champ.(going to install 10.7 Lion and see how it goes)
And at the meantime I donno whether it's the card readers issue or not?(sandisk wouldnt replace the thing for me)
So anyone got any experience or insight of the situation?
    thanks
    PS.
To make things worse, Sandisk discontinued the extreme firewire reader,(they do have the expresscard reader, but the new 15" dont have a expresscard slot)
So now we're left with those stupid slow USB2.0 card readers while the size and the speed of those flash memory cards are getting faster and bigger each day.

I'm pretty much giving up on this issue.
I just found a very rare new lexar fw800 reader online for $80. Hope it works.
fun fact: the SanDisk fw card reader works on the MacPros, new MacMini's/server, even the thunderbolt display w/ the fw800.

  • Card reader not mounting SanDisk Extreme CompactFlash Cards

    Hello,
I am having this issue with reading a CopactFlash card I recently bought. It is a SanDisk Extreme UDMA card. When insterted into a card reader the reader does not mount like it does when SanDisk Ultra II cards are mounted. This computer is fist generation MBP and runs SL OS. I tried it on another MBP with lion on it and the reader works just fine. Is there somthing that I need to download and install do you think?
    Thanks in advance,
    Farzad

If the card reader is to old it may not be able to read UDMA cards.
I know I upgraded to UDMA, I wrote to Lexar about the problem. They replaced the card reader with a newer model that worked.
You might ask SanDisk if they will do the same thing for you.

  • Can Time Capsule backup an Airport Extreme's attached USB hard drive?

Can Time Capsule backup an Airport Extreme's attached USB hard drive (without currently being attached to a MAC OSX LION system)?

No, sorry.. there is no way for the TC to see the files.. and even if you plug the hard disk into the TC there is no mechanism in the TC to drag the files to itself.. The TC is absolutely a dumb network attached drive.. everything you want to do must be done from a computer.

  • Can not format my SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC card using Disk Utility

    Hello!
So, I have a problem with my SD cards.
I have an 27" iMac where I can read, write or format my SDXC SanDisk Extreme Pro cards for fun.
As soon as I insert them into my MB Pro, I lose that capability. I can only read them.
The option for format the cards gets greyed out.
I must get them working on my MB Pro since I am leaving in a week with my camera and laptop and absolutely have to be able to format the cards in the laptop, since I own a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera where that is not an option in the camera.
I have OSX 10.9.5 on both computers.
There does not seem to be a problem with other external drives that I own. My Western Digital Passport can be formatted, read and written on my MB Pro.
    What do you guys think?
    Regards,
    Atli

I have found a little workaround for this stupid thing.
If you remove your SD card and then log out of your account. Then in again, insert the card, open disk utility and then everything should be okay!
Worked for me on both SD cards, but I have to do this every time I want to format a SD card.
