Melted Coax cable, Hot to touch 2 way splitter

I lost all my services (TV and Internet) yesterday.  When I checked the splitter in the basement it was too hot to touch and the end of the supply coax cable was melting.  The service contact's response was , WOW that's not suposed to happen.  Hopefully the tech's can repair today.  Any ideas what caused this and can it be prevented?

Make sure the ONT is properly grounded. It sounds like a shorted device or coax somewhere. Something should have taken out a safety before a coax "melted" The tech will need to troubleshoot this issue. Anything less would just be an assumption.
If it were my house I would unplug the ONT power and disconnect the battery. Please consult tech support prior to doing this.

  • MI424WR Coax Too Hot To Touch

Today I went to reset my MI424WR today (because it hadn't been reset in a while and the firewall page had hundreds of UPnP entries) and accidently touched the coax adapter. Normally I wouldn't have even noticed, because as I recall, it never was even warm at all, but this time it was burning hot! Do I need a new router? (Also, this is a revision C.)

I am pretty sure that it should never be "noticeably hot"   it always gets warm, it's electronics but definetely not "hot"      it is well ventilated right?
as long as it's well ventilated then you may want to call in for a possible replacement,  warm is ok, but never "hot"

  • Can I connect a second router to the coax cable.

In my house Verizon fios goes into a box and a coax cable comes out and splits in one direction towards a set top box and in another direction to an Actiontec M1424WR router. An eithernet cable connects the router to a computer. All is well. This works fine.
Now I want to install another computer next to the TV. It sits a long way from the Actiontec, wireless is flakey and i dread the idea of pulling a long cat5 cable through my attic to connect the computer to the Actiontec?
Will it work if I put a splitter on the end of the coax in the room with the tv, run one wire to the stb, and the other to a new router?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Not a second router ... you want to go to your favorite online retailer (like Amazon.com) and purchase an ActionTEC ECB2200 (also called an HME2200) MoCA Ethernet Adapter.    Plug and play and you're all set -- it will automatically link up over the Coax to your ActionTEC router and provide a LAN connection at the second location for you.
You can search the forums for the ECB2200 / HME2200 and you'll find numerous discussions on this device.
I use this in my home network setup and it works great.

  • My FIOS TV only uses the Coax cable not the HDMI cable

I can only get my STB to use the coax cable to my TV, I want it to use the HDMI cable for a better HD picture, but I do not see a way to get the STB to use the HDMI cable as the primary output. How do I tell my STB to use the HDMI cable instead of the coax? My STB is Model:QIP7100-P2.

  • My iMac is to hot to touch!

So this is the problem: I have iMac 21,5 and it is getting to hot to touch.
Is this normal for an iMac?
    These are my temperatures: (C)

The back of the iMac is meant to get hot. It acts as a kind of heat sink. But if it's really too hot to touch that's not good. This is probably in the upper left corner of the back as you face the screen; it is where the power supply is located. Get Temperature Monitor (free) and post all the results, including the power supply temperature. It looks like you've been running something graphics intensive, perhaps a game or something with Flash content. This will always raise the temps.
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
Actually, I don't see anything terrible in those temps, at least those you posted. But they might be lower. You might want to get smcFan Control.
    http://www.eidac.de/
Not including the default, I have five fan settings increasing in increments of about 20% to around 2K. I give them different names such as "minimum," then "minimum plus" etc.
From experimenting, here's the way I use smcFan (you may find your own preferred method): I would start out at the lowest setting above the default. This will be approx. +200 rpm. See how the temps are looking using that setting. If needed go higher in steps. But you don't want to run the fans constantly at 2K. That may shorten their life.
When needed, I also run a small 6" clip-on fan mounted to the wall just behind my 21.5. It helps dissipate the case heat.
Make sure you keep the air intakes free of dust. I vacuum mine periodically, with the computer shut down.

  • What digital coax cable do I need for my sb 5.1 digital (pic attach

    http://www.marctv.de/media/soundblaster5rear.jpg
This is my SB Li've! 5. from the back. The black whole is labeled "or digital" .
I have my Z-680 ( 5. Surround Speakers with DD Decoder) attached with 3 x 3.5 mm to have real 5. Sound in EAX Games.
But I want to connect the soundcard with my decoder via the digital coax cable because I do not play anymore.
So what cable do I need to connect my sb 5. digital to my z-680 via coax?
I need a detailed discription so that I can buy one.
And yes, I know that I only have stereo sound when I am not listinbg to a dvd.
But please give me the answer. I could not find it anywhere on the cl homepage.
Is it a 3.5 mm mono to coax? Or what is it's

Yes it's a mono 3.5mm >> RCA adapter (or a stereo 3.5mm >> 2xRCA cable). You need to use the orange socket labelled 'DIGITAL OUT'.

  • 1310 Bridge RG-59 coax cables.

Hello all, hope everyone is well.
The RG-59 coax cables that come with the 1310 bridge are only 1 foot long. Does anyone know where I could get longer cables as the power injector is quite a distance away because there are no close power sockets. Instead of installing new power sockets near to the bridge, we wanted to simply run longer coax cables.
    Hope someone can help!

This cable is standard CATV (cable/dish antenna cable) type RG-6 that is commonly available at any radio or entertainment store - It is exactly the same cable that is used to go from the cable TV receiver to the television - Raw cable and connectors are available from places like Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart etc.

  • To Hot To Touch

I just got my MacBook Pro with retnia yesterday. Its my first mac. I am extreamly unknowlagebale about macs. Last night when I went to bed I plugged it in to charge. This morning when I went to get on it, it was incredibly hot, both the top and bottom, to hot to touch. Is this a normally prob.? It cooled off rather fast. Im just really concerend about my computer well being.

The machine should have gone to sleep overnight, unless you changed the default Energy Saver settings, and when it's sleeping it won't generate any heat. What was it doing this morning when you first discovered it was hot?
It's important to understand that a MBP can get quite hot when doing very processor intense tasks, or if it is used on an inappropriate surface. If you leave it running for a long period of time while it's resting on a soft, insulating surface (like a bed), this can not only trap excess heat on the bottom of the machine, but it can also cause the vents (hidden in the hinge) to be at least partially blocked.

Is it possible to play games and using apps on TV using Component or Composite cables with ipod touch 4g?

Or this is only for video?

The iPod only displays TV out for apps that support TV out. The App description will say if it supports TV out.

  • Representing coax cable in Multisim

I am trying to simulate a 50 ft coax cable connected to a signal generator on the left-hand side and a 50 ohm load on the right-hand side.  How would I build this using Multisim?

    Hi,
The best option for you is to model the coax line as a 50ohm lossless transmission line and just calculate the delay it will introduce in second. You can use the following formula:
delay time = length of the cable/ TEM velocity (3*10^8m/s)
If you want to include losses you have to calculate the RLCG parameters of the coax cable and include them in the component Lossy Transmission Line.
You can learn more about this here.
I attached a design file that includes these components, always make sure that your load is the same as the transmission line characteristic impedance (matched) to avoid reflection.
    Hope this helps,

  • 1 coax cable - 2 different routers through splitter - 2 different IP addresses -- Possible?

    Hello,
I currently have a verizon fios internet connection shared with my family through phones/laptops/desktops/etc. I am also starting a home business which requires constant internet usage and because of this I want a seperate line.
The wiring in my house is a bit weird so I was recommended by a friend to try an alternative method.
So, I'm wondering if the following is possible:
Currently, there is 1 coax running from the basement verizon box up to the second floor to a router. What I would essentially do is have a coax splitter at the second floor which feeds in to the two routers and each having their own verizon account associated with them. One router would have its own IP address for the family and one would be for my business with its own IP address. Seeing how coax has many frequencies, this should be possible but the billing department told me that I would need a second coax cable for a second router. This kind of ruins things completely.
So, I may have just explained it wrong to the representitive on the phone so I'm wondering if this is possible.
TL;DR Is it possible to have 1 coax cable which has a splitter which then feeds into two routers on two different verizon accounts with two different IP addresses.
    Thank You.

Do you only want the separate line so as to not have the other traffic or do you want it so that you have a different ip address?
You can get a business fios account, that will give you 5 ip addresses.
You can run a second router off your first router and give it a different subnet that is unique for your business traffic.

  • Hot to touch and battery drained

  • Too hot to touch

My PowerBook often gets too hot to touch on the bottom. Is that because of a faulty battery? My batteries' serial numbers don't match those of the recall.

You might be interested in reading this thread:

It's possible the heat is coming from something other than the battery. 3rd party RAM or defective RAM will commonly cause overheating problems. Try to figure out exactly where the heat is on the bottom and run the diagnostics suggested in the other thread.

  • Sleep and to hot to touch problem

I'm reading all these problems about the MBP getting to hot to touch while sleeping (not).
I haven't seen anybody put all there specs down. I think it is a graphics card driver problem but can't be sure because not everyone has said if they're using "Better battery life" or "Higher Performance".
We never have this problem with our two new MBP's unless we are using "Higher Performance" If we remember to change to "Better battery life" our MBP's never get too hot to touch. However, the few times we've forgotten to switch and left them on "Higher Performance" they've gotten too hot to touch while sleeping. I say sleeping but not really, as they never really go to sleep in this mode.
    One of our MBP's is a 2.8 the other is a 2.53.

sounds like you have a hardware problem I would take it into a apple store

  • Dv2500 notebook - extremely hot to touch

Running Vista, no error messages but notebook is very hot to touch within a short time after it is on.  Has anyone else experienced this and what to do about it.  This has been happening for a long time now - no significant software or hardware changes before or after first happened.  My optical drive stopped working and I think it has something to do with the heat of the notebook.  It is not the battery as same with or without battery installed.
