Mem upgrade on MS-6382

I have purchased 2x CT12864Z40B from crucial.com to upgrade my Microstar ms-6382 based
system.
I can used either memory module (with or without the original 256mb
module), yet am unable to use both of the new modules together.
I have checked that my BOIS is the latest version, yet still cannot get
both modules to work at the same time.  The system simply will not get
to the BIOS screen with both of the new modules installed.
Crucial recommend adjusting the DDR voltages, yet I cannot see an option for this in the bios.
Please can you advise what is wrong and how to get both mem sticks working together?

Hi
The voltage adjustment for the memory is listed as vdimm in the bios.  Set it to 2.6v or 2.7v.  2gig of memory uses quite a bit of power so your power supply may not quite be up to the job.
Some micro atx motherboards don't have this adjustment in the bios.

  • K7nd2 delta - cpu & mem upgrade?

    hi all
thinking of upgrading my k7nd2 delta cpu & mem. right now i have a 2800+ cpu and corsair 1gig twin 2700-333 mem. the new memory i want to get is " Geil Ultra Series Value Dual Channel 184 Pin 2GB(2x 1GB) DDR PC-3200" and of course upgrade the cpu to 3200+.  i can afford 1 of the 2 right now, so would it be best to get the memory 1st, and will the new memory work with my 2800+ exist'g cpu??  or should i upgrade to the 3200+ cpu and keep the older slower memory??
    thanks for any help.

Never again would i use three memory sticks in an nforce2 motherboard.
i already managed to kill two by doing so.
    so that's a no-no.
and yeah geil make awesome ram, iv'e been using geil since my first ddr system and never been disappointed
if memory timings are an important thing to you [if you're a gamer and would kill for every 3dmark point] you should check their Golden Dragon Dual Channel Kit series, they're just awesome. the SPD for dual channel 400mhz is 2-3-2-6 if i'm not mistaken on them, but they can do 2-2-2-5 without problems.
or if you don't mind timings THAT much, check out the Value Dual Channel Kit series, SPD timings for dual channel 400mhz is 2.5-4-4-8, and these sticks are known to push 240+mhz on just about any overclock attempt.

  • Ddr2 mem upgrade

I just upgraded the mem on my MSI P965 mb with E6400 from 1G to 2G of Kingston Valueram 667. I installed the mem in 1 orange slot and 1 green slot.
System powered up fine.....and sysinfo detects 2G no problem.
Is there any thing else I need to do? Bios settings, etc?
How can I test to see if it is actually running in dual channel mode?
    8^)
    Wade

Your modules should be placed in Slot1 and Slot3 or Slot2 and Slot4 for Dual CHannel operation (they need to be installed in slots of different color).
To check the current operation mode, use CPU-Z and click on the Memory-Tab. There should be a field that will tell you if your memory is operating in Dual or Single channel mode.
CPU-Z will also tell you the current memory timings and frequency.  There should be no need to adjust any further settings in BIOS.

just curious, i have a t61p  and would like to know if it can handle  PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM SODIMM Memory
    Thanks,
    Matt

Nope!    You can have up to 8GB of RAM in your model, BUT you'll have to run a 64-bit OS to recognize more than 3GB of the RAM.  WinXP (32bit) only sees up to 3GB of RAM; on the other hand, Vista 64bit will see 8GB (more but the laptop only supports up to 8GB).

    Hi,
Yes, that solid drive should work but I would recommend a Samsung 840 Series Pro: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Series-256GB-Solid-State/dp/B009LI7CTY

  • Lenova Thinkpad R52 Model: 18605EU Mem Upgrade Startup Beep Code 1-3-3-1

I am helping a friend who does not know anything about computers.  I looked up the specs and discovered this laptop can have a max of 2GB of RAM.  It has a single slot with 512MB module in it.
    The spec call for
    533Mhz front side bus
    DDR2 SDRAMM
    533 / PC2-4200 1.8V
I ordered and installed a Kingston HyperX Performance 2GB module with above specs.
When booting, there is a 1-3-3-1 Beep sequence and no video.  Any Ideas please?

You can buy a CMOS battery on eBay for $5 or thereabouts. They are shared across most of the ThinkPad models.
The only exceptions that I can remember - which require a different battery - are 701C/Cs, TransNote, 600 series and R40.
In other words, 99% of the ThinkPad CMOS batteries will work just fine in your R52.

  • S10-3 Machine Type and Model

I am hoping that someone from the Lenovo team can help me identify my S10-3 with the correct machine type and model numbers. There are multiple strings on the machine base, packaging and build sheet, but nothing that seems to map to the 3 digit model information being requested on the Lenovo support sites for BIOS & Drivers.
    On the machine:
    Ideapad S10-3
    Model Name 0647
    MO : QB00030514
    On the build sheet:
Machine Type Model : IdeaPadS10-3N450F01G2507SW3b-AU  (makes sense as a description)Machine Type Model NO : 59031892

As a follow on. I looked at the other posters similar request and replies.
The Bios info page does not specify the model . only a cryptic EC 2AEC15WW
Inputting the serial number on the web site doesn't generate the 4 digit number for me.
It only confirms that the machine is under warranty.
Re CPU-Z It doesn't display the Model number either.
Note that interestingly it reports DDR3 memory, when my S10 uses DDR2
I have seen a lot of posts on the mem upgrade subject. If I can confirm my model and if it is useful to others.
I replaced the existing mem with a corsair value select 2Gb DDR2 667 Mhz SODIMM with no issues.

  • Refurbished Mac Book Pro from Apple.

    Hi All,
I am planning to buy refurbished macbook pro from Apple for my Friend. Its Quad core processor with 4 GB Ram, 15 inch. Any one has experience with refurbished stuff from Apple?
There are two options and I am really confused on that if you guys can suggest me:

    Not much difference in price.
There is another one which is used by someone and I am getting it really cheap
    13.3 inch 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
8 GB DDR3 MEM - (Upgraded from stock)*******
    120GB SOLID STATE DRIVE
    Please suggest best one.

These are all good computers. All 3 are actually quite different and the one for you would entirely depend on the uses.
I will first compare the 1st and 3rd models as they are both 13". Price aside, the first one is superior in every way apart from (possibly) the hard drive. I say possibly because maybe your friend would prefer more space over speed. If not, you can always upgrade the hard drive to a SSD yourself.
However, you mention that the 3rd model will be "really cheap". You will have to decide if the significantly faster processor of the first model is worth the extra money - this extra money being both the difference in price and the cost of ugrading the hard drive if you choose to do so. Bear in mind the processor is not upgradeable at a later date.
As for the 15" model, this is an entirely different computer. It has a dedicated graphics chip which your friend would most likely appreciate if they run graphic intensive tasks such as games. The larger screen size may also appeal to your friend, if they are happy carrying the extra weight. Finally the processor of this model is potentially much stronger than both of the other two, depending on the tasks your friend will use it for.
Unfortunately this computer only comes with the basic 4GB RAM and standard hard drive although, just like the other models, this is completely upgradeable by anyone.
I haven't given you an answer but perhaps this info will help you decide

  • Activity Monitor -- Memory.   Details Needed.

Could anyone point out what exactly the "Free" and "Inactive" memory spaces are??
I'm running on a 2GB RAM MacBook Pro. I don't run too many mem intensive programs. But quite often the "Free" mem would drop to 100-150 MB. But at that point, the "Inactive" mem would be around 500-600 MB. So what exactly a I looking at? Am I facing a mem crunch?
I'm new to OSX. from my previous experience with Windows OSes, how much ever RAM you give it, the OS will take a huge chunk and then free up as necessary. Is it something like that that I'm looking at over here? Or am I supposed to go for a mem upgrade?
And I know the next question is might be out of place, but, after quite wome time of browsing on Firefox, it seems to take 500+ MB of RAM. Is that normal??
Thanks in advance for your replies & suggestions.

Understanding top output in the Terminal
The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.
It's not abnormal for browsers to eventually use a huge amount of RAM. Use the latest version of your browser that's available. Emptying some of the browsers caches like the History cache will help somewhat, but the best way to recover the memory is to quit then relaunch the browser - or just don't worry about it and put more RAM in your computer.

  • Ideapad S10-3 Model 0647 bios update failure, recovery possible?

I have downloaded and installed the  latest bios version 37 (2acn37ww.exe).
The flashing tool indicated success and has stored a backup of the old bios.
But, after reboot the screen stays black.
In this forum similar problems have been discussed, but none of the presented procedures did help.
Has anyone successfully recovered the bios of an Ideapad S10-3 Model 0647?
