Members in 11g

Hi ,
oracle 11g ASM RAC under OEL 5.6 2 nodes
i have 2 members in my redo log file but one of them is on ASM storage and other is on file system but also
this file system is OCFS2
GROUP# MEMBER
1 +DATA/medi/onlinelog/group_1.310.815125761

4 +DATA/medi/onlinelog/group_4.313.815125765
8 rows selected./backup01 is mounted in both nodes that i have , so please advise if there is any effecting on performance when the file
is on different location , as per my knowledge this is will be good to avoid any issue is the disk or file system is get corrupted ?
thanks

Yes, for the sake of making the database running when one of the members would be lost, you should put each member on a different storage device/mount point. The performance would be effected based on the performance of the underlying devices. If they are fast enough, you shouldn't see any issues as such.

• OBIEE 11g - How to create clean looking pivot tables

Hi, does anyone have a good way to clean up the appearance of pivot tables in OBIEE 11g? I'm a big fan of Stephen Few and firmly believe in the "minimize non-data ink" theory. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of stuff on OBIEE pivots that I can't easily clean up. Does anyone have ideas for:
1. How to remove the "gray" / "beige" coloring from column and row dimension? I opened a ticket with Oracle 6 months ago, and basically they've just responded that it is a "enhancement request" for a future version (aka not going to see it for a LONG time)
2. For my "across" dimension, I don't seem to have a good way to show the dimension name. There is an option under "column properties" to "display heading" - but when this is turned on it scrunches the heading up directly over the column that has the down dimension members. I really want this to go across the pivot.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Scott

Hi,
Steps,
Just create DSN (odbc connection for the excel data source) then try to import via rpd that time u must need to select "System Tables"

• Using presentation variable in OBIEE 11g

Hi,
Is is possible to use a prompt to filter data from two sections of a dashboard?
My dashbaords contains two sections , each pointing to seperate reoport. Can I filter data in the two reports using parameter selected in one prompt?
If not possible , the wht is the way to achieve this.
Thanks and Regards
Santosh

Thanks Rondo,
In our project we have e-Biz Oracle ERP application where actuals are captured. Customer is using a third pary tool called Neotix to buid RPD automatically based on Database (oracle) of this application.
Nw we are building new application for planning and budgeting in Hyperion prodicut by oracle where Database is Essbase. I will be creating an RPD for budget/planning reports based on Essbase data source.
For creating on report for Actual Vs Budget, I need to have both Actuals data from e-Biz and Budget data from Hyperion comming out of one RPD.
So I want to merge those two RPDs and build by Actual vs Budget report based on the Business model from this merged RPD.
I want to understand hw to build the buisness model in the merged RPD so that I can get the acutal and budget data together in the same report using Answers. I am using OBIE 11g.
Please tell me wht should be my reporting strategy for achieving this. Can I create single business model for two dataa source which I will import in phyisical layer? How Do I join the two data sources in my RPD, in the business model? What are the challanges to do this kind of model in the merged RPD. ? Do u think there will be challanges to joing Essbabase members (since it is multidimensional cube ) with e-Biz data source in physical layer?
If I build multiple subjects area (one for e-Biz datasouce and another for Essbase data souce) what modeling steps, I need to implement in presentation layer of the merged RPD?
In answers how to I build report so that actual and budget data can be displayed together? Are there any technical challanges to implement such report in Answer? If yes, then what are the ulternative approaches?
I came to know that if it is not possible to get both actual and budet data together in one report, then I should build a dashboard with two sections , and build two reports (one for actuals data and another for dudget data ) and then place one report in one section and another section in another section in the dashboard. Is it a good approach? Is there any better approach?
I want to use one prompt to filter data for actuals and budget . eg. for year 2012, I want to dislpay Actuals as well as Budet values?
Please provide your expert inputs...
Thanks and Regards

• Role management in OIM 11g.

Hi All,
I am working on OIM 11g PS1.
In this I want to give some of the users in OIM ability to manage the roles in OIM and view and modify the role and role membership.
For this the simplest way is to add the user to role 'Role Administrators'.
Now when I login with user, then this user is able to modify the role, view hierarchy, view and modify membership rule, Data Object permissions but when clicks on 'Members' tab then it throws the error and does not show the members and same error comes when it tries to assign new users in role.
The same behavior happens for the role owner as well. When the role owner of a role logs in and try to view the members of its own role the same things happens. I have pasted the error below:
Please suggest if anyone else has come across this issue and is there any step that I may be missing in my configuration.
The error that comes on GUI:
"ADF_FACES-60097: For more information, please serr the server's error log for an entry beginning with: ADF_FACES-60096:Server Exception during PPR, #8"

Hi,
I found the resolution for this, so I thought I would share it here with everyone.
I role owners or any user in role "Role Administrators" were not able to view the members of the role though they had the authorization policies enabled and everything setup.
To enable the view of role membership please follow the steps below:
1. Login as XELSYSADM
2. Goto Administration and search for the org which the users are assigned to
3. Open the org details
4. Click "Administrative Roles"
5. Click "Assign"
6. Choose either "ALL USERS" or your role which you created, set the permissions as you wish and click "Assign"
This will really solve the issue.
Thanks,
Sneha.

• Preaggregation across value based hierarchy dimension in 11g

Hi All,
I have created a cube with 6 dimensions in olap 11g. One of those six dimensions has only one hierarchy which is value based hierarchy. I have chosen level based aggregation as I know at what levels exactly users are going to query. When I was going through the dimensions to choose levels to preaggregate I noticed there were no options available for my value based hierarchy dimension ( I could see "all" option for the same case in 10g) then I tried to look for definitions of underlying objects just to make sure it will preaggregate data across my value based hierarchy dimension.
I found value set corresponding to my value based hierarchy dimension in <CUBE NAME>SOLVEAGGMAP object , which AWM uses to decide which dimension values to preaggregate but if I do rpr on that value set (rp r<CUBE NAME>SOLVE<DIMENSION NAME>_PVSET) it shows NA so my question is can I pre aggregate across value based hierarchy dimension in olap 11g?
Olap Version: 11.2.0.1
AWM version: 11.2.0.1
Thanks

Even if you know exactly which levels your users will query, percent based precompute (e.g. 30%) may still be faster in practice because queries are returned using 'sparse looping' instead of 'dense looping'. This was the single biggest performance advantage of 11g over 10g.
But if you still want to use level based precompute, then you should look at the XML template for the cube (as saved by AWM, for example). In it you should find something called PrecomputeCondition. This defines the set of members that are precomputed. Here is an example I just created using the GLOBAL schema
<PrecomputeCondition>
<![CDATA[
"TIME" LEVELS ("TIME"."MONTH", "TIME".CALENDAR_QUARTER, "TIME".CALENDAR_YEAR),
CHANNEL LEVELS (CHANNEL.TOTAL_CHANNEL, CHANNEL.CHANNEL),
CUSTOMER LEVELS (CUSTOMER.MARKET_SEGMENT, CUSTOMER.REGION, CUSTOMER.SHIP_TO),
PRODUCT LEVELS (PRODUCT.CLASS, PRODUCT.FAMILY, PRODUCT.ITEM)]]>
</PrecomputeCondition>The PrecomputeCondition is also visible through the USER_CUBES view.
SELECT PRECOMPUTE_CONDITION
FROM USER_CUBES
WHERE CUBE_NAME = 'MY_CUBE';You can hand modify this condition in the XML to specify an alternative 'non level based' precompute condition for any dimension. For example, if you define an attribute named 'SHOULD_PRECOMPUTE' on your PRODUCT dimension that is 1 for members to be precomputed and 0 for all others, then you can change the condition as follows.
<PrecomputeCondition>
<![CDATA[
"TIME" LEVELS ("TIME"."MONTH", "TIME".CALENDAR_QUARTER, "TIME".CALENDAR_YEAR),
CHANNEL LEVELS (CHANNEL.TOTAL_CHANNEL, CHANNEL.CHANNEL),
CUSTOMER LEVELS (CUSTOMER.MARKET_SEGMENT, CUSTOMER.REGION, CUSTOMER.SHIP_TO),
PRODUCT WHERE PRODUCT.SHOULD_PRECOMPUTE = 1]]>
</PrecomputeCondition>If you recreate the cube from the XML with this condition, then the PVSET valueset you discovered should contain all dimension members for which the attribute value is 1. This gives you complete control over what is precomputed. Note that AWM doesn't support this form of condition, so it won't show up if you go to the Precompute tab, but it is valid for the server. The PL/SQL below will modify the PrecomputeCondition (for the cube named MYCUBE) without going through AWM.
begin
dbms_cube.import_xml(q'!

• OBIEE 11g best practice - when to use the new "presentation hierarchies"

Hi, maybe a dumb question, but what are the rules of thumb for when to expose a presentation hierarchy to end users. Obviously this must be done when using a parent / child hierarchy, as there is no level info that would allow drilling the "10g" way. However, I'm not so sure what the bonuses / drawbacks are when using level based hierarchies.
I have noticed that the SQL seems more complex and less performant when using the hierarchy. As an example, I have a simple dimension (business unit) that has a hierarchy with a total level, and 3 members in the detail level.
If I create this as a 10g style report, I add business unit column, dollar amounts, and a table total (so I can see grand total amounts), the SQL launched looks like this:
WITH
SAWITH0 AS (select sum(1) as c1,
sum(T45393.SPEND_AMOUNT) as c2,
T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_CODE as c3
from
DIM_BUSINESS_UNIT T45273,
FACT_SPEND_ANALYTICS T45393
where ( T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_KEY = T45393.BUSINESS_UNIT_KEY )
group by T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_CODE)
select distinct 0 as c1,
D1.c3 as c2,
D1.c2 as c3,
D1.c1 as c4,
0 as c5,
0 as c6
from
SAWITH0 D1
This is simple and efficient, and OBIEE "knows" the grand total can be calculated by simply summing the business unit totals together.
But if I create this as an 11g style report using the presentation hierarchy, with all members selected (so I can get the detailed business units plus the grand total), the SQL is much less efficient, it actually fires two queries - one for the detail level, another for the total level:
WITH
SAWITH0 AS (select distinct sum(1) as c1,
sum(T45393.SPEND_AMOUNT) as c2
from
FACT_SPEND_ANALYTICS T45393)
select distinct 0 as c1,
NULL as c2,
'All Business Units' as c3,
1 as c4,
NULL as c5,
D1.c2 as c6,
D1.c1 as c7
from
SAWITH0 D1
AND
WITH
SAWITH0 AS (select sum(1) as c1,
sum(T45393.SPEND_AMOUNT) as c2,
T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_CODE as c3
from
DIM_BUSINESS_UNIT T45273,
FACT_SPEND_ANALYTICS T45393
where ( T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_KEY = T45393.BUSINESS_UNIT_KEY )
group by T45273.BUSINESS_UNIT_CODE)
select distinct 1 as c1,
D1.c3 as c2,
'All Business Units' as c3,
1 as c4,
D1.c3 as c5,
D1.c2 as c6,
D1.c1 as c7
from
SAWITH0 D1
Not only does this fire off two queries - but it doesn't use the existing cache for the "detail" level generated by the "non-hierarchy" query.
So I'm trying to figure out pros and cons of exposing hierarchies for end users. I've come up with the following:
Pros:
- Users can click on the + and - signs to drill / collapse individual members while still keeping all other members on the report
Cons:
- Queries fired at all levels, doesn't seem like it's smart enough to figure out it doesn't need to send a level query to database if all children were already queried
- In 10g if I want to expand all children (i.e. drill down all quarters to the month level) I could just click on the column header. Doesn't appear to be any way to do that using the hierarchical drills, I have to click each and every one to see all the months.
Any insights would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Scott

Hi, no, I haven't tried setting options such as "report based totals" - simply because I wouldn't want an option that requires users to tweak settings on each and every report they create to get stuff working efficiently.
Thanks,
Scott

• Cisco Systems vs "CSIRO" 802.11a and 802.11g infringed upon the '069 patent

Hi,
any news about Cisco Systems and the "CSIRO" 802.11a and 802.11g infringed upon the '069 patent ?
http://www.buffalotech.com/products/wireless/
Dear Customer
As you may be aware, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation ("CSIRO") sued Buffalo, Inc. and Buffalo Technology (USA), Inc. ("Buffalo"), for alleged infringement of United States Patent No. 5,487,069 ("the '069 patent"). Subsequently, CSIRO also asserted its patent against the entire wireless LAN industry, including, Microsoft, Intel, Accton, SMC and Netgear.
In it's lawsuit against Buffalo, CSIRO claimed certain Buffalo wireless networking products compliant with IEEE standards 802.11a and 802.11g infringed upon the '069 patent. Buffalo believed at that time and continues to believe that there are no grounds for CSIRO's allegations of infringement. The United States district court, however, found Buffalo to infringe the '069 patent and enjoined the importation and sale of Buffalo's IEEE 802.11a and 802.11g compliant products.
CSIRO's lawsuits are against the entire wireless LAN industry and could affect the supply of wireless LAN products by any manufacturer, not just Buffalo. The entire industry is resisting CSIRO's attempts to enjoin the sale of wireless LAN products. Recently, Microsoft, 3COM Corporation, SMC Networks, Accton Technology Corporation, Intel, Atheros Communications, Belkin International, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Nortel Networks, Nvidia Corporation, Oracle Corporation, SAP AG, Yahoo, Nokia, and the Consumer Electronics Association filed briefs in support of Buffalo's position that injunctive relief is inappropriate in this case.
During the period of time that the injunction is in effect (10/1/2007), Buffalo cannot offer for sale, sell, import, or use its IEEE 802.11a and 802.11g compliant products in the United States. A list of the products covered by the injunction is attached here . The injunction does not prohibit sales of pre-existing inventories of products by Buffalo's customers. In addition, Buffalo has secured CSIRO's agreement to permit the replacement of defective products under warranty. None of Buffalo's other products are currently affected by this injunction.
While Buffalo believes that it will be successful in reversing the district court's decision and will obtain a stay of the injunction pending a decision on the merits, the Court of Appeals has not yet issued a decision. Should the Court of Appeals issue a decision staying the injunction, you will be promptly notified. After the stay is issued or a favorable decision on the merits is obtained, Buffalo will be able to resume the supply of IEEE 802.11a and 802.11g products
Please rest assured that Buffalo continues to stand behind their products and will continue to support all of our loyal customers as it relates to product warranties, technical support and the like without interruption.

I suspect after reading the patent and the litigation that you mentioned above, that the US District Court decision will be reversed as the patent appears to be very vague in its contsruction and verbage. Furthermore, the intent to hold the IEEE hostage on the ratification of 802.11n will not bode well in the court's eyes. If in fact the case is reversed, I believe that the members of CSIRO will be in danger of lost profits litigation from Buffalo. Stay tuned to this bat channel.

I tried to find something on internet but nothing suitable for me.
Thanks

From the error messages it does not seem to find any of the transport related jars (ftp, jca, email, etc..). Looks like there was an issue while creating the domain.
Can you retry creating the domain and let us know if you are still getting the same error?

• How to calculate optimized number of members of WLS cluster

Hi everyone.
I have a Oracle AS Portal 11g that run on a cluster with 2 managed servers. Each of managed server run with 8Gb heap (it is too much, I think so).
My system has two node with 32G RAM each one (that run RHEL 4.x). While monitoring, I see that my server use a little amount of CPU. So, I want to increase the number members of cluster. I read the sizing guide for WebLogic Portal but it was not show any guide to determine how to calculate the optimized number of members of cluster.
I'm stuck in this situation for a week. Because my cluster will became "Warning" state after several days caused by Stuck thread. I want to increase size of cluster to improve HA (I'm trying tuning other factor such as network, DB, I/O, ... )
Please tell me your idea to calculate and design the size of cluster with desired resource (eg: 32Gb RAM total, and 6G heap size for each of WLS instance).
Every reply is appreciated
Regards
Cuong Pham

Looking at your struck thread behaviour of application, even increasing the Managed Server will not help.
Yes of course it may provide few more days of application available than the current condition but on long run definitely you will face the same issue again.
Better understand the reason for threads getting struck with the help of thread dump, stack and troubleshoot the actual issue.
Below link will guide you in over coming this issue if there are no leaks in application and if your application actually requires time to process requests
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs92/ConsoleHelp/taskhelp/tuning/TuningExecuteThreads.html
Other Stuck Thread Handling procedures which weblogic provides are given below
WebLogic Server checks for stuck threads periodically. If all application threads are stuck, a server instance marks itself failed, if configured to do so, exits. You can configure Node Manager or a third-part high-availability solution to restart the server instance for automatic failure recovery.
You can configure these actions to occur when not all threads are stuck, but the number of stuck threads have exceeded a configured threshold,
■Shut down the Work Manager if it has stuck threads. A Work Manager that is shut down will refuse new work and reject existing work in the queue by sending a rejection message. In a cluster, clustered clients will fail over to another cluster member.
■Shut down the application if there are stuck threads in the application. The application is shutdown by bringing it into admin mode. All Work Managers belonging to the application are shut down, and behave as described above.
■Mark the server instance as failed and shut it down it down if there are stuck threads in the server. In a cluster, clustered clients that are connected or attempting to connect will fail over to another cluster member.

• Get Realm form Jdeveloper using Soa 11g PS3

Hi
I've a problem with jdeveloper authentication with a Oracle SOA 11g PS3.
I've successfully installed the DemoSeed Community into the server, i've checked into "secutiry realm->myrealm->users and groups" and i found all the seed users.
During the developing of a simple BPM composite with a Human Task, i try to edit the Roles tab into the Organization function and ad a new role "Productor" but when i've tried to associate Members to this new role jdeveloper does not show any realm or any user form the "Identity Lookup" pop-up window.
I've checked the server log and found an exception referenced to this case, the exception was:

Hi Stefano,
Is this an upgraded instance of PS3?
I'd check the installation steps again. See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17904_01/doc.1111/e16793/patch_set_installer.htm
Specifically:
3.8.5.3 Run soa-upgrade.py to Update the Policy Store and Deploy a Shared Library
3.8.9 Adding New OWSM Pre-Defined Policies

• Get Realm Jdeveloper Soa 11g PS3

<OWS-04086> <oracle.fabric.common.PolicyEnforcementException: PolicySet Invalid: WSM-06102 PolicyReference The policy referenced by URI
