Memorex Dvd burner

i have a double layer memorex dvd burner that i bought for another computer a few years ago and now want to use it with my powerbook g4 but dont have the installation software from when i first got it. i have emailed memorex multiple times asking them about how i could get the installation software. if anyone has any ideas about where i could get the software please let me know. thank you.

You could very well be wasting your time with the Memorex Dual Layer Burner.
I suggest you have a look at one of the hundreds of available DVD Burners that you know will work without the hassel of trying to make the Memorex work.

having problems backing up itunes libray on dvd 4.7 discs. used to back up at max burn speed. now i keep getting messege burn speed to high. i am now down to burn speed 2x and was able to back up. I really think it is a problem with itunes and not my burner as i believe i have all driver updates but could be wrong. my computer is 3 years old. does anyone know if i went to staples and picked up a new sony or memorex dvd burner if this would help as then i would be 100% sure the burner has all updates

You might want to Google for the Download of YouTube videos, but I use FireFox browser with DownloadHelper.  Then  a simple way to make a DVD usable in a DVD player is to  drop the video into DVDFlick.: http://www.dvdflick.net/download.php

  • Looking to by an external dvd burner

I would like to add dvd burning capability for my imac dv. I want to use firewire than usb. Will a memorex dvd burner work my imac. I see them listed on ebay but don't want to buy one and it not work. Where can I find what will work on my imac and not cost a fortune?

I have a Mad Dog MegaSTOR DVD/CD burner I just bought from Costco. The model number is MD-16X3DVD9-8XE. It is USB 2.0 AND Firewire, which is why I bought it. It not only burns DVD+R and DVD-R, but also DVD-RAM and DVD+R DL. It burns CDs at 48X, DVDs at 16X and DVD+R DL at 8X. It has a two year warranty, and was $115 from Costco online with free shipping and handling. It works great with my system. It didn't ship with any Mac software, but I have Toast 5.2. I plugged the burner into the firewire port, and the iMac recognized it right from the start. Toast 5.2 works fine for both DVDs and CDs with this burner.
    Hope this helps....

You will get better results if you use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option and then drag the movie from the Movies pane of the Media Browser in iDVD onto the menu window.
Also I suggest you use this workflow which I learned from Bengt:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • When attempting to burn a dvd to a memorex DVD Rdl 8.5GB blank disc, the program says it's not a recordable disc.  The content is a 6.5GB Quick Time Conversion video.

When attempting to burn a Quick Time Conversion video to a Memorex DVD+Rdl, 8.7GB blank disk, the program reponds that the dic is not recordable.  It's a new blank disk.  The video is 8.29GB in size.

    Hi
    I see two problems
    • Memorex never worked OK on Mac when doing Video-DVDs - I only use Verbatim (more organic dye in them)
    • Size in Gbs - iDVD doesn't care about Gbs at all only duration. And Duration is the sum of Movie time AND MENU TIME.
I have 500Mb files that are to large to fit and 50Gb files that fit's nicely.
iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.

  • Error burning Memorex DVD +R DL on both my mac's

I have 2 Macs. Macbook Pro Labtop (2006) and PowerMac G5 (2005) I need to burn info on a DVD but it brings up the error code 0x8002006D I have read other posts but the info is a bit confusing not sure what I should try first. The drive works fine with burning CD's so what should I try first?

Hi. I've also been having issues with this.
I bought some Memorex DVD +R DL discs, but whenever I try to burn on them I keep getting an error about how the "laser wasn't able to generate enough power to penetrate the disc." Even my Toast 9 titanium won't work, it says I have a "Medium Error." I've tried everything: Toast 9, Disk Utility, Burn Folder, etc. And it will not burn.
Is there a fix for this? I did manage to burn a DVD DL disc about a month ago, but I can't remember how I got it to burn. These Superdrives are listed as being able to burn DVD DL, but I've been having nothing but problems trying to do so.
    This is absolutely ridiculous.

  • DVD burned with Encore on MacPro will not play in all players

I burned a project with Encore last week using my MacPro's stock DVD burner. I was using Memorex DVD+R disks which I've had mostly success with in the past. I tried the final DVD in 3 players before I considered it the final product, and it worked in all 3...1 high end player and 2 no-names. I went to present the project at a screening the other night and their Sony player would not read the disk (but did read everyone else's)! Luckily I had access to another player, so it wasn't a complete embarrassment, but still unnerving considering I have to make about 60 DVDs next month for a client. Any idea what could have caused this?

The difference between + and - these days should be zero. However, if one format gives you trouble, always try the other.
I've delivered to clients where + was the only format that worked, and I've delivered to clients where - was the only format that worked.
As has been said before, the only way to absolutely ensure maximum compatiblity is to replicate your discs. Obviously that's not prudent in cases like yours. :)

  • DVD burned from img won't play in other players

In order to back up an old DVD I had to protect it from damage, I ripped it with handbrake and encoded it as a diskimage via iDVD. As the movie was 1.5 hours in length I used the professional setting under project info. After approximately 12 hours of encoding the disk image finished. I can open the disk image with DVD player on the mac and it performs perfectly. I used the disk utility to burn the disk image to a Memorex DVD+R without incident. This morning I tried the burned DVD in my xbox360 which read it as a mixed media disk and would not play it. Next I tried in my sony blu ray player which read it as a photo disk with no photos on the XMB.
What do I need to do to have the burned DVD work properly? Are the DVD+Rs bad or is it something with the encoding? Thanks in advance for your help. I am a pretty big novice to iDVD and the whole process.

To create an image file, launch Disk Utility and select File: New: Disk Image From Folder. In the window that appears, navigate to the desired folder (the DVD) and then click on Image. Give the image file a name, and click on Save when prompted. That’s it.

  • Memorex DVD-R 8x showing up as only 6x?

    I'm trying to burn DVD's
I'm using memorex dvd-r 8x disc and when I go to burn the highest speed available in 6x. I've burned 8x discs before but they were a different brand. Does brand matter? If so what brands will burn at full 8x speed? Thanks

BTW, this area is for discussing the iMac G4s. Since you have an iMac G5 you should post future questions in the iMac > iMac G5 discussion area.

  • Intel iMac 17'' Matshita DVD Burning extremely slow!

It seems i'm not the only one complaining about this problem:
I just bought a new iMac Intel 17'', just to discover it would only burn at speed 2x, instead of 8x as advertised. Yes, I have read all the advice about picking good media. The media I'm using is perfectly functional, and there's no reason why a drive wouldn't write on it at the right speed, unless the drive was of really bad quality.
How can it be that we buy such expensive computers, and are given the cheapest DVD Burners Apple could lay their hands on?!

I recently discovered that the Memorex DVD-R 8X media I've been using for months would only burn at 2X speed. I too was upset by this. I think my old G4 iMac was doing 4X burns. So I went looking for answers and kept coming across consistent suggestions of "try different media." I recently ran out of the Memorex media so I looked closer and followed this link <http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm> and found Memorex poorly rated. I bought TDK DVD-R 16X media today (for 25% less than I paid last time for Memorex) and my iMac is cooking away happily at 8X burn speed now.
My suspicion is that there is a great deal of empirical data to support lower burn speeds for some media in order to reduce the number of "coasters." After all, I want a reliable burn first and speed second. I bet the firmware in many drives looks at the media ID of a disk and throttles the speed to achieve the primary goal at the expense of the secondary.
BTW, the way to check media ID for yourself is to open a terminal window and enter "drutil status" with a disc inserted.

  • MBP simply spits out blank Memorex DVD-R

Okay, this has finally caught up to me and is now officially a problem. It didn't bother me before because I figured when I really needed to burn a DVD again I'd go out and buy some other brand, but it's Thanksgiving and I want to show the family something and no place is open.
My MacBook Pro has miraculously decided that it doesn't recognize Memorex DVD-Rs anymore. The screwy thing is that it used to. In fact, this started in the middle of a project. I was remastering one of my brother's BMX videos and making a new DVD menu and all that, and we burned what we thought would be the final. We went into the other room and watched it on the good TV and DVD player. We caught a few things we wanted to change, so we went back and changed them, but then when I popped in another disk, it spun it for about a minute and then ejected it. It has done it ever since, even through a reformat and upgrade to Leopard.
Why in the world would my drive burn to these disks one minute and the next refuse to ever recognize them again? Here's the information from the System Profiler:
    HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MA:
    Firmware Revision: AE38
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 2048 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO

I was having the same problem with Memorex CDs that I burned MP3's on from a different computer; the CDs won't even load, it goes in, tries to read it and spits it out. I was able to pinpont it to only the Blue and Black Cool Color CDs; all of the other ones loaded successfully, even the purple and red ones. So it must be something to do with the dark colors. Guess that's what I get for wanting "Cool" looking CDs. But that's messed up that the Macbook won't play them, they work perfectly fine in other PCs! Also, from reading other people's messages, Memorex appears to be a bad brand anyways.

  • Memorex DVD-R vs Other Brand

I've been using NextTech DVD-R to burn data. I recently bought some Memorex DVD-R and now I keep getting error messages telling me there is only 31MB of space on the disk. This is a brand new tower of DVD-R's. Also when I open finder it tells me there 4.7GB of room. Is it Memorex or something I've done? Can this be fixed?

    Hi Tamara,
Memorex DVDs seem to take a beating around the various forums here and elsewhere. This site:
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
has an excellent discussion of media quality and the way "brands" differ from "manufacturers." It also has a link to a little program that can read the manufacturers' code from a blank disk so you can compared it to a list of "known good" manufacturers.

  • Media write error for dual layer DVD burn

I am having a problem burning a dmg to a dual layer DVD using the internal DVD writer. I have tried both Disk Utility and SimplyBurns.
Both program s go through the preparation for the file, and when it attempts to burn the disk I get a 'media write error'. I am using Memorex DVD +R DL disks. I have successfully burned both CDs and regular DVDs with the drive.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can fix this?
    Thanks

I am using Memorex DVD +R DL disks.
    Try Verbatim DVD+R DL discs.

  • Memorex DVD+R Dual Layer & Power Mac G5

For some reason my G5 want read a Memorex DVD+R Dual Layer disc that my friend burnt for me. I put the disc in, and the computer just spits it back out at me. Is this normal? What can I do? I got my G5 in 2004 can newer G5s read Dual layers? My friend made it on a Power Book so I dont see why I cant read the disc.

Yes, they are relatively new. For more on the history of DVD, see this page:
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvd
I typically buy double sided DVD-R disks to burn more than 4.7 GB of data. These you flip over when you want more content than can fit on one side of a DVD. Alas you have to split up the content. Depending on the type of content this can be done by segmenting an image, or compressing the data itself and segmenting a compressed file. What's odd is that some disks which appear on the surface to be dual layer because of their single sided capacity, such as the Tiger installation DVD, are in fact readable by all DVD drives that are on Macs, whereas the commercial DVD+R DL is not. I don't know the difference between commercial and consumer grade Dual Layer disks, but there does appear to be one which makes them readable on Commercial grade whereas Consumer is not on older DVD players.

  • WARNING!  MEMOREX DVD-R keeps ejecting/won't mount

    Ok..so I have an eMac (2004)
    SuperDrive PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D
CDs & DVDs with data AND DVDs burned for DVD players DO MOUNT.
Then a DVD from Netflix loaded..so everything seems to work except DVDs burned to MEMOREX DVD-R.
A friend converted VHS stuff for me to DVD from a Panasonic VHS to DVD converter. Some DVDs mounted. The MEMOREX media he used did not. They do not want to mount.
So I will be testing other media again from this converter..But we have seem to have found a problem with MEMOREX media. (recordable 16x 4.7GB)
Also tried resetting the PRAM and looked all over for issues with my Pioneer SuperDrive. Found nothing
eMac Mac OS X (10.3.9) also have an iBook G4, G5 dual,

Memorex Media is Fair at best. Some of the older Optical Drives do not expieriance the problems that the newer drives have.
When you are burning be sure you friend has his settings correct for Mac and PC compatiblity.
Here is a Media quide to use when purchasing.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Next be sure if you are using the newer high speed media that you read the back of the packaging and the media will burn at the lower speeds . It will read that this media will burn at 1X, 2X, 4X, 8X, and 16X. so no matter the drive you have it will burn this media.
Also, as you already know stick with DVD-R Media it is the most widely recognised and used, for computers and players alike.
