hello everyone,
I am planning on upgrading a Compaq presario V2000 laptop i currently own. I heard that it cna can only run on PC2700 RAM with a max of 1gb per slot. Currently, I have 2 X 256mb sticks installed so i plan to remove one of them and install a 1GB stick and i was wondering whether this is compatible with the laptop:

I also wanted to upgrade the hard-drive as 40gbs just doesn't cut it for me. Does anyone know whether the V2000 can hold two hard-drives? Also what hard-drives are supported by the V2000? Will any IDE 2.5" hard-drive fit in or does it only support 5400rpm drives?

Your max memory is 2 gigs or 2 x 1 gb and yes it uses DDR333 SO-DIMM memory. Here is the Crucial.com page for it:

Turn to Page 5-6 for hard drive replacement. Don't forget to save the little connector piece that goes over the hard drive pins and place it on the new drive. There is only room for one (1) drive.
You can use any IDE (PATA) 2.5 inch laptop drive of any size and rotation speed. A 7200 rpm drive will boost performace significantly.
Not sure if you have the Intel or AMD version of the V2000 but the processor is also upgradeable if you happen to have one using the Celeron or Sempron processor.

Compaq Presario V2000 Is the CMOS batt rechargable? (Batt ML1220)

I have a Compaq Presario V2000. It will not boot up or show any signs of being powered. I think the CMOS battery needs replaced. The battery is a Panasonic ML1220. What I want to know is whether the CMOS battery is rechargable. I've found a battery locally, but it cautions not to recharge this particulary battery. It's a UL1220. Any help would be appreciated

This does seem to coincide with a hard drive issue.
I don't have access to a system like this, but go back into BIOS. Is there an option for SATA settings anywhere for IDE or AHCI? If so, try setting it to the opposite of what it currently is. For example, IDE to AHCI or AHCI to IDE.
Another thing to check, and this is easy to miss, is anything at all connected other than the charger? If so, disconnect all non-essential devices.

I noticed this is your first post, a comprehensive post just for asking XP drivers.
Please read XP downgrade guide, part 2, here
Your model, somehow forgot to be listed in part 2, but in general, part 2 should work for your model.
Read the guide so that you knew the advantages/disadvantages installing XP for your model.
About your request, try the following drivers
1.For Intel 965 Express Chipset Family, Here
2.Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221 Driver
Driver modded by silver here
Unzip to a folder..use Device Manager,right click "Audio Device on HD",choose Update driver,
No to connect,
Install from a list or specific location,
Select Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install,
For the Hardware Type select 'Show All Devices'
Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk".
Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".
Ignore XP when it complains.
Reboot.
Please post again If you found the mic and external speaker are not working perfectly.
Post it with your Hardware ID.

Hi:
Those ID's confirm that your notebook has the Conexant AC-Link audio chip.
OK...here is what I did. A little detective work...
I like to use the free 7-zip file utility to extract the component files from the exe.
When I extracted the files from the driver that is posted by HP for your model that I linked you to above, here is the hardware ID for the Conexant Audio chip the driver supports.

As you can see, this driver supports a different Conexant audio chip than the one in your notebook, because the hardware ID you posted is PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370
So, I googled the hardware ID and found several drivers that had the main ID of PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370, but they had a different &SUBSYS number.
I had to download and extract the files from a few of them before I finally found one that matched the exact hardware ID as yours which is PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_3091103C

Replace hd HP/Compaq presario v2000

I have an old Presario v2000 with a failing hd. I bought a new hd and imaged the old drive to a usb drive with the intention of imaging it back to the new hd but i cannot get the usb drive to boot. I really want to preserve the data and software - any suggestions?

If you have more than one computer, install a disc cloning software (IE: Acronis TrueImage) on it and then clone the image from the USB drive to the replacement hard drive (may require you to purchase a USB HDD Dock if you don't have any place to connect it).

CD/DVDW not detected by system on Compaq Presario V2000

My CD/DVDW TS-L532R on my Compaq V2000 can't seem to be detected on my system. I used it recently without any problems but after I removed a i-phone programme something must have happened. I don't recall having a CD to install the hardware so I'm at a loss what to do.... I can't seem to get any help on the COMPAQ or HP website...

Hm, forgot that dmesg is case sensitive... Writing DVD in caps instead resulted in this:

I also looked through the dmesg output more carefully, and found these

A quick google search indicates that this whole thing is a known problem when connecting a SATA 3 gbit DVD-drive to a SATA 6 gbit port, which is probably exactly what I've done. I'll just have to switch some cables around.

Problem with MAT**bleep**A UJ-840D built in COMPAQ PRESARIO V2000

Hi. I am getting problems with the mat**bleep**a UJ-840D drive built in my laptop. I can watch DVD movies but cannot read, use or burn any CD discs.
I tried to upgrade the firmware version to solve the issue but the application does not work. The software is: FIRMWARE UPGRADE GCC4243N CDRW DRIVE (directly downloaded from HP web site). I select the file: "s5hp108.DLD" and when I hit the "FW Flashup" button, it brings error: "THIS PROGRAM CANNOT BE USED FOR THE SELECT DEVICE". (MAT**bleep**A UJ-840D - 1.02".
The currently drive installed is: Driver provider: Microsoft / Date: 01/07/2001 / Version: 5.1.2535.0
I think the CD/DVD writer drive must be ok because it works with DVD discs. I have tried with a lot of types and branch of CD discs, but not of them can be read.
If I can to be enabled to make an driver or firmware upgrade, or both, maybe it can be solved.

Where can I find the drivers for my Compaq Presario V2000?

I have had to reload XP Pro on my Compact V2000 and did not have the drivers for this computer. I would love to find the drivers to load back on this old computer.

Hi:
Here is what you need to do, but you will not have Aero as the GMA900 video adapter is not completely windows 7 capable.
Download and run this Vista driver from an HPQ nc6220.

It will error out with a message that states in substance that the operating system is not supported.
Close the error window and go to the device manager.
Under display adapters, click on the Standard VGA Adapter. Click on the Driver tab. Click on the Update driver button.
Select the "Browse My Computer for Software" method of installation and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.
That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp34749.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.
On reboot you should have decent graphics but no Aero.

Compaq Presario c700 laptop RAM.....Blue screen!!!!

Hello, I just recently removed vista and upgarded to Win7 32 bit. I tryed to add 4gb of RAM, due to the factory 1gb it came with. However got a Blue screen Error. After that I only installed 1 of/ 2gb stick of RAM and it worked.
My quetsion is, I need 4gb of RAM for this c700, Should I update the Bios for Win 7. By doing so will the c700 allow me to install the 4gb of RAM and work?

Before I go out and buy some RAM to upgrade this aging laptop, I was just wondering how much RAM the system supports. I've done some Googling and find that some sources state 4GB max, whereas others state 2GB max. I always imagined it was a 2GB max but according to the following HP site it says 4GB. See chapter 1, page 3.
Because your model has the AMD processor, you can install 2 x 2 GB of PC2-6400 memory (4 GB).
The manual says PC2-5300, but I know for a fact that the chipset can run the memory at 800 MHz, so you may as well bump up the speed of the memory too.
And even if it doesn't, the PC2-6400 memory would just downclock to 667 MHz, so you have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
I have the same chipset in my dv6810us and I swapped out the memory to 2 x 2 GB of PC2-6400 and mine runs at 800 MHz. I have the Turion TL-60 processor.
Cheapest place to buy memory, IMO and here are my recommedations FWIW.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ71. It has 4 gig of RAM - how do I increase it please? Win7 IE11

It's sluggish - especially when moving around on the internet - for example, just after I got here I clicked "yes - I'll take the HP survey later" - the small window remained/nothing happened for 15 seconds. I never have more than three sites open at one time, usually only two are open.
Powering up has become very slow so I've used WinPatrol to help that by usind delayed start-up.
I have Norton Internet Security - I update frequently - I run Malwarebytes & Secunia PSI weekly so I haven't any malware problems (touch wood!).
I ran the Windows Performance troubleshooter and also the Optimise Windows 7 - I tried Adjust Viusal Effects where I selected 'best performance' - it was horrible to look at so I reinstated 'let Windows decide' or similar.
I know that somewhere on the laptop is an item that scores its performance out of 10 and it's 3.7 for gaming but I didn't buy it for gaming.
I'm prepared to double the RAM to see if that helps so what should I do next please?
