Memory Allocation? Video rendering help...
Right now I'm using Quicktime 7.6.6 on my MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I'm transcoding HD Prores 422 video to H.264. Usually, this process will take about twice the length of the video (for the double pass) if not shorter. For some reason, today this process is taking forever. I've quit all other applications, and it is still going to take about an hour to transcode a 2 minute video.
I went and I looked at my activity monitor. Under "System Memory," it is telling me that QTPlayerHelper (quicktime's encoder) is using around 155% of my CPU (is that even possible?), 365.2 MB of Real Memory, and 450.5 MB of Virtual Memory. I'm running on 4 GB of memory. Activity Monitor is telling me I have 1.79 GB of free memory with 2.2 GB used. Shouldn't QT be using some of that memory? Why did I pay for all that extra memory if everything is going slow and none of it is being used? Does it have something to do with the CPU usage? What is my computer doing?
Not intending to make a big deal out of this ... however, it's not crazy, and it is true.
• OS X (and your apps) need RAM +and disk space+ in order to operate. It's called system cache and OS X uses it nearly all the time. This is a totally separate need from whatever space is required by your data (eg. your video files).
• As you fill up a hard drive, performance degrades; it happens gradually, and is not always noticeable, but it goes on constantly. It is the simple result of the physics of hard drives. A drive is measurably less responsive once it reaches 50% full (and by the time a 500GB OS X +system HD+ is 90% full you are not only going to see inexplicable gremlins but you are quickly approaching a system crash because there's not enough space left for OS X itself to run properly).
• Video performance is especially sensitive to the resources available in your system, notably the responsiveness of your hard drive ...
A 500GB drive is not all that big by today's standards, especially if you are doing video.

Hi I put together a series of short videos about 1min to 4 min each. It totaled about 25mins for all of them. I did a few edits, converted to a smart object and added a noise reduction filter and went to render it. It took over 12 hours for this to render? I just got a Mac last year with 16gigs of ram and 2 tb of memory. All software is updated. Why is this taking so long to render? The output settings were the default ones. Help. This isn't encouraging me to edit videos at all.
What is the actual problem? Will it not open again? Are you not sure how to open it?

I uploaded the new Imovie 10 and cannot share videos,after about 10 mins I get the message "Share failed Video rendering error :-50", please help!
I am getting the same problem. Downloaded Maverick and the new iMovie 10.0.1 and It will only upload 10 minutes of a 65 minute video then I get the rendering error 50 each time tried to export to desktop, to thumbdrive, to youtube. No luck. any suggestions Apple?

Can anyone help me please?Workoround - working in guest account. Copy the media to the share user folder and then on the guest desktop copy the media from the shared folder to the guest desktop folder. Start iMovie and begin your project on guest account.

Playing video from a capture device - Out of memory for video buffers?
Hello guys, I'm having problems playing video from a video capture device when not using JMStudio. When I use JMStudio, the video plays real time with no problems, but when I use code taken from a java book which is a simple Media Player, I get the following error:
"Error is Error: Out of memory for video buffers."
My capture device is working and I don't know why i get this error when trying to watch the video feed from a program other than JMStudio. I also tried different code that has worked in the past with the same exact capture device and I still get the same error. Please help, I have no clue at this point. The code for the simple media player is below, it's taken out of the book "Java: How to Program (4th edition)":

Cache Memory Allocator \ Short Term Memory Allocator Issues
Hi all
I have a number of identically configured (High School) Servers which are giving me the same memory errors (some more frequently than others) and I've run out of ideas.
They are all HP Proliant DL360 G6 Servers, NetWare 6.5 sp8 with eDir 8.8 sp5.
The error messages are :
"Cache memory allocator out of available memory." followed by "Short term memory allocator is out of memory. xxx attempts to get more memory failed. request size in bytes xxxxxxxx from Module SWEEP.NLM"
The module referred to is always "SWEEP.NLM" (Sophos Anti-virus). A Server reset solves the problem but it is normally back within a month.
I've posted below a config.txt and segstats.txt from one of the servers.
I would be grateful if someone could help me with this as it's now becoming a 'headache'.

Somewhat. From the time of day, and the loading of commvault modules
inbetween, this looks like a combined backup / AV scan issue. The
requests of Sophos are comparably big in size, and they vary a lot. That
will lead to fragmentation of your memory, until the memory can't be
allocated in one chunk any more. It also *seems* as if Sophos actually
scans the data while it gets backed up. That is *bad*.

First time to the forum and a relatively new user in AE.
Here's my error message:
"Memory allocation of 9.2 GB exceeds internal limits. Decrease the memory requirements for the rendering of this frame (12802). For more info: www.adobe/com/go/learn_ae_mem"
So here's where the confusion sets in:
a) I've gone through the forums and tweaked the multiprocessing settings... still get the same error.
b) I've changed the color bit depth to 8 (mentioned in another posting)
My comp is a full HD animation simulating a walk through a hallway. There's roughly 14 elements in the composition and the camera movement is a pan in.
I hope this is enough information to get the ball rolling. If more info is needed, I'll do my best to get you what you need.
Thanks!Below are screen shots of the aforementioned settings. I receive the error as I scrub to 00;00;20 on the composition. The message displays as a large .jpg file begins to rotate out and another .jpg file rotates in. I've used a camera to pan in on this elements' transitions but am not using any effects directly. I have Premiere Elements 2 and Windows XP SP3. We have 1GB of RAM and 500 GB Hard drive with only 50% used. I save my videos on an external hard drive.
I have always satifactorily burnt my DVDs with the system as it is, including a short DVD last week. In the last couple of days I've been trying to burn my DVd but Adobe fails part through the burning process as it is running short of memory allocation. We have followed previous instructions on the forum and turned off background applications. Can anyone help? I burnt something much longer without a problem about 3 weeks ago and am a loss as to what to do.
Thanks ErikaThanks. I don't use any stills in my DVD, just music which I import in the way I have always done and it's been ok. For information my audio clips are either MP3 Audio or Windows Media and files are up to 4.3MB. These are ripped from CD via Real Player (Windows Media seems to encode them and I cannot download to Adobe via WM)
Source: 44100HZ 16 bit and Data rate approx 23.4375 KB.
SHould I be doing anything else?
Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

"Memory Allocation Error" when Building a DVD
Hi all!
I have a problem. When I start to build a DVD. Encore stops with a "memory allocation error". The project I tried to build is 3.06 GB, so it's must fit to a simple DVD. My HDD has enought free space.
I tried to build it on two totally different computers but the error is the same. I didn't find any answer for this error. Can anybody help me?
I use Encore CS4, and the project is made in Premiere Pro CS3.

160 GB HDDI get the same! I was having an issue with video files from my digital camera, so I opened up Premiere CS3, which took them in and encoded them to MPEG-2 just fine (tisk-tisk! Premiere and Encore CS4 both failed to play them or encode them properly!!!)
Them I put these MP2 files into a project which has 2 menus, 4 video timelines, 2 slideshows with 200+ images and some background audio files (one linked to a menu, another plays in sequence after first finishes). The project is for PAL screen, and it is 4-some Gb, but less than a disk. I have 4Gb of RAM and 6Gb of page file, 70Gb free on my HDD. Running Vista Ultimate x64.
Slideshows render, and videos do not require transcoding, so the project is ready to build, it starts writing the ISO file, and crashes after 1.8-1.9Gb is written.
There seems to be no easy way to re-create my slideshow, or I would have just re-built the entire Encore file to see if that would work.
My PC is overclocked, I admit, I have not tried it without an overclock, but my system has been uber-stable for 12+ months! I will try and report if it fixes anything, but I doubt it. I have also tried to run this build after a fresh reboot with mostly everything turned off, to prevent system conflicts. If that's what it is, I must have missed something. But Encore CS4 is BUGGY LIKE GOD KNOWS WHAT!!!!! This is one crash I can't get around, but it's not the only one I've had. If anyone knows an answer, PLEASE post it here! Adobe guys please please please please! My project's already held up for a month! -

It seems that server.nlm is growing without limits. When tat occurs, I have the mentioned errors.
Though NWMKDE seems to have grown. It remains steady around the showed values.
I'm not brave enough to apply the memcalc's recommended fixes because the following line:
set file cache maximum size=822083584
returns an error saying the minimun value should be 1073741824.
Can someone help me because I'm completely blind here.

GabrielI take it this is primarily a database server, in which case it's OK that Btrieve is using so much memory? You wouldn't want this to be a general file server too. Is the memory error causing any actual problem?
Server is asking for only 1mb, and due to fragmentation there is little free memory (actually 2mb left, which is a little odd, but neither here nor there).
Also, let's see your bti.cfg, which is the Btrieve config file. I'll paste in below an ArcServe TID on Btrieve using excessive memory:
Symptoms
Btrieve was upgraded to version 8.5 during the installation of ARCserve r11.1. The cachesize in the BTI.cfg microkernel section is at 20 MB (20480). (Pervasive would like this setting placed to 20% of the server memory or database size which ever is less.) The server will keep adding 20 additional Megs of memory to the total amount of memory the server is using for database transactions after each backup job. This can be verified by performing the following at the server console:
LOAD MONITOR
Scroll down to System Resources under Available Options and hit enter.
Scroll down to Alloc Memory (Bytes) and hit enter.
Locate NWMKDE.nlm in the Resource Tags list.
Sort by memory bytes and you will slowly see nwmkde.nlm move to the top of the usage list. Unless the server is rebooted the small memory allocations stays at the increased amount.
Explanation
Starting with Btrieve version 8.5 and higher, Pervasive has been working to make the Btrieve database more dynamic. They have created a two-tier memory allocation approach. The first level is controlled by the cache size setting in the BTI.cfg. If this becomes inadequate, the second level will be accessed. The default setting for the second level is 60% of the server's total memory.
The following line in the BTI.cfg will control the second level of memory caching:
MaxCacheUsage=60; default is 60% of memory.
An example would be a server with 100 MB of memory and the following settings in sys:\system\bti.cfg:

MaxCacheUsage=60
This will cause the nwmkde.nlm to use 20 MB (20480) of memory initially and grow up to 60 percent of the total server memory or 60 MB.
Now you also have to throw Max worker threads into the mix. A setting of Max worker threads = 3 in the BTI.cfg > Btrieve Communications Manager section will also use server memory. It will use 1 MB per thread. In this example, 3 Megs of additional memory will be used. That will bring the total amount of memory used by nwmkde.nlm to 20 MB (20480) + 3 MB = 23 MB when the server is first booted. After running some backups, this number could go up to as high as 60 MB (60% of server memory) if the server dynamically requires it.
Resolution
The MaxCacheUsage=60 setting must be set down from this 60% number. Pervasive recommends setting this from 0 to 20. The server needs to be rebooted for this change to take effect. -
When I check my plugins, the following three, very closely related (in my mind) plugins are listed, and the "Renderer" still shows "Research" when checking to see if it is Up-To-Date. It seems to me I don't need all three. I tried removing the Renderer (yes, I know how to do that safely), but Google seems to continue to reinstall it (with one or both of the other two...?)...I'll ask this on a Google Forum too, since it's their product, but wondered if anyone has any insight. I obsess about plugins that need "Research" - Thanks!

This may affect router operation to the extent that you cannot connect to the router and get a prompt if the memory is badly fragmented.
This problem is characterized by a low value in the "Largest" column (under 20,000 bytes) of the show memory command, but a sufficient value in the "Freed" column (1MB or more), or some other wide disparity between the two columns. This may happen when the router gets very low on memory, since there is no defragmentation routine in the IOS.
If you suspect memory fragmentation, shut down some interfaces. This may free the fragmented blocks. If this works, the memory is behaving normally, and all you have to do is add more memory. If shutting down interfaces doesn't help, it may be a bug. The best course of action is to contact your Cisco support representative with the information you have collected.

Recommended Action Reduce other system activity to ease memory demands.
But I am still not sure about the exact root cause is as
1.The GET/GETNEXT / GET BULK messages from SNMP Manager (Here, IBM Tivoli Netcool ) uses default SNMP Port 161 which is
UDP and not TCP
2. If its ICMP Polling failure from IBM Tivoli Netcool , ICMP is Protocol Number 1 in Internet Layer of TCP/IP Protocol Suite and TCP is Protocol Number 6 in the Transport Layer of TCP/IP Protocol Suite .
So I am still not sure how TCP Protocol Process Failure could have caused ICMP Timeout . Please help !

But I am still not sure about the exact root cause is as
1.The GET/GETNEXT / GET BULK messages from SNMP Manager (Here, IBM Tivoli Netcool ) uses default SNMP Port 161 which is
UDP and not TCP
2. If its ICMP Polling failure from IBM Tivoli Netcool , ICMP is Protocol Number 1 in Internet Layer of TCP/IP Protocol Suite and TCP is Protocol Number 6 in the Transport Layer of TCP/IP Protocol Suite .
So I am still not sure how TCP Protocol Process Failure could have caused ICMP Timeout . Please help !

Computer specs for nice 3D rendering/ after effects rendering and video rendering in general ?
Hi there! I would like to know what the perfect specs for a laptop/workstation/computer are, so that I could do my creative work from home..my old laptop (Macbook Pro, 8Gb Ram, V 2010) is not good enough for 3D rendering, not even Video rendering or After Effects... I need to know what graphics card for eg or how much Ram or what I need to look for in a computer so that I won't get any error messages after rendering for half a day anymore...;) (--> very annoying) Money is not a first priority...i would first like to know, what the best option would be that one could have and then down size from there;)

cheers stephsRegardless of workflow, you want a workstation, not a laptop. You will get much more bang for your buck.
Also, as others have said, Windows machines tend to be better choices than Macs right now. And that's coming from two people who used to use/love Macs...
In general, you want the fastest clock speed on your processor that you can afford. You want as many cores as you can get with that nice, high clock speed.
Ideally, you want 4GB of RAM per core of your processor - MINIMUM 16 GB of RAM, (but get as much as you can afford).
You want an SSD for your cache and a good-sized regular hard drive to hold footage, renders, etc.
GPU matters for Premiere and any third-party plugins that use it (like Red Giant Universe, Element 3d, Mettle's ShapeShifter, etc.), but not for AE and not for Cinema 4D (which comes free with AE these days).
Again, this is just some generalization. For more specific info, we'll need to know more about what you're doing.
