Memory card encrypted

Hi there!
Today I finally found an occasion to update my E71 with the new FW. Before doing that i made a backup, ofcourse. But because of time matters, i didn't back up the memorycard. Never gave any problems. Untill- you'll guess- today. After the update my mc is encrypted, at least: my E71 thinks it is. But I'm sure it isn't. Is there a way to recover the data that is on the card?
Much thanks in advance...

Plug the card in a PC. Copy the files, reformat the card in the phone and replace the files. If you can't read the card in the PC and phone, the card is corrupted and you have to reformat anyway. All data will be lost.
‡Thank you for hitting the Blue/Green Star button‡

  • E72 memory card encryption

Setting up card encryption goes through the motions but appears to instantly encrypt the card! Given memory encryption takes a few minutes, it looks like nothing actually happens. Indeed, trying to decrypt the card doesn't do anything! Haven't yet tried to read the card in another device, but I suspect it isn't. Other reportson the net concur with this. Given that encryption was one of the main reasons for looking at this phone, this is a bit of an issue.

Having updated to 31.023 and going through a hard reset. The system now says that the card encryption is "off". Have switched it on again and the effect is the same. System says card is encrypted - but nothings actually happened!

Options > Media Card. Set the encryption there.
Also, does blackberry provide a service whereas if the phone is nicked, you can send a signal too it to basically trash the phone? I'm sure Ive heard of that on BES but not sure about BIS.
    Yes, I use Roblock

  • Nokia E72 - Bypassing RAM+Card encryption

I just realized something interesting with my E72 - people can access my data even without knowing the password.
    Details are as follows:
-E72 firmware 022.007. Both memory and MicroSD card are encrypted. Phone set to auto-lock at every 20 minutes.
I have an alternate home screen application installed (Voyager Home Screen) and just noticed that possible to invoke Voyager even after the phone has been "locked" (encrypted). Using Voyager I can load up any file management tool, for instance X-Plorer and access the card and any files.
All one has to to is unlock the keyboard, there is no need to know the lock code or input it.
Perhaps this has something to do with the way Voyager Home Screen works but it made me realize that perhaps the data isn't secure at all... even with encryption.

Well I have another update to this issue...  I have accidentally hit the EXIT button during encryption and then the phone restarted. I then disabled memory card encryption and it took about one hour. After that I had some corrupted files in my microSD, some videos that I added later. The original OVI Maps and other files were not affected.
OK, I then decided to retry the encryption process. I enabled the encryption and it was enabled istantaneously as other people said. I then wondered what should it be. Then I came to my mind that probably the phone uses the memory card lock password to generate the encryption key. So I CHANGED the memory card lock password and enabled memory card encryption again. Well the encryption is going on right now (at 10% after 15 minutes on 16GB). So it seems that you firstly have to set the memory lock password and then enable memory card encryption, in that way the card would be encrypted juat as the phone memory encryption works.

how can i do  decryption  of a memory card in nokia E66 model..
can u tell the procedure ...
i already encrypt the card now i cant acces the card ie cant open music file ,images etc...

The process varies according to your OS release on the device, but check Options > Security > General Settings and set your password and see what options you have there. You should find one for encryption to include the media card.

  • To remove encryption from the files in the memory card

    Hello,
Yesterda I checked the opcion of encryption on my BB. Today I had problems when synchronizing the data between the PC and the BB, all my data was deleted from the phone (not from the memory card) and I now I have deactivated the encryption check on the BB settings.
The problem is that when I start my BB the BB asks me for the encryption key which was used to encrypt the data in the memory card, and therefore I want to get removed from the need of this encryption key, therefore I need to desencrypt all the files from the memory card.
    how can I do this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Monica

You can drag them out of dock, at least 2 inches or so up and then hold until there is a puff of smoke - they'll be gone.

did you use a card reader?
what was you exact workflow for attempting the import?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?

  • Problem with E71 detecting photos in Memory card

    I have a Nokia E71.
I tried encrypting the memory card first. After this i could not access my data on the memory card hence I decided to decrypt it.
Everything on the memory card seems fine except that the Gallery is not recognising the photos on my memory card. I can access the data through the File Manager.
Have tried switching d phone On and Off several times but to no avail.
Even removed the memory card and re-inserted it but no use.
The songs are detected by the music player.
When i scan my memory of the card it shows used space but 0 bytes for Images, 0 for Sound files and 0 for Video files.
Also my Phone has slowed down since then. Some of the images are also corrupted
    Please help me ASAP!!!

Try to transfer your data to computer , recovering as much as possible , and then format the card

  • 20 minutes timeout for full RAM/Card Encryption is...

After over 2 monhts heavy usavge, I'm quite happy with my E72 so far, except for some memory leak issues.
I did get a bit annoyed by the fact that the auto-lock feature cannot be set for more than 20 minutes. One of the resons I got the E72 was the strong RAM+Card encryption but I expected it to be a bit more flexible.
It is true that having a forced lock timeout helps protect your device (you'd forget to lock it sometimes) but there are certain occasions where I find this extremely annoying. For instance:
-When I am at home I find no need to have it locked all the time.
-When I am at work and the phone is always next to me, I find annoying that it auto-locks every 20 minutes when I'm using it as an audio player - makes you have to unlock when you want to interact
-In certain applications, it is annoying that it autolocks and you can't interact. One example is Sygic Mobile GPS software that crashes when it locks. With other software it would be annoying too as you'd be locked and unable to interact with the phone in any trip taking longer than 20 minutes.
    So I have two suggestions
-Make the maximum lock delay a bit longer - for instance 60 minutes.
    and/or
Give us an option similar to what you get in timed Profiles, for instance, "Stay unlocked until hh:mm" - This would be handy when you're home and well... no one is going to steal your phone/access it/lose it.

I don't mean the keyboard lock, I mean the native Symbian OS phone lock when you are using RAM and/or Card Encryption with the E72.
It is built in on the OS and you cannot set it to be over 20 minutes. If you leave your phone untouched for 20 minutes it will lock/encrypt itself.
    Then you have to
    1) unlock the keyboard
    2) enter the unlock code to decrypt
The problem is that the auto-lock feature timer is limited to 1-20 minutes.
If you want for instance to use your phone for a GPS navigation trip and don't touch it for 20 minutes, it will lock + encrypt....  in some occasions would be nice to have a much longer timer.
I wish Nokia would tweak this in the next firmware or at least allow us to specify certain applications where it would not auto-lock at all.

  • LR 3.3 doesn't allow "Add" for images on memory card?

    Hi there,
so far I've been using LR 3.2 and as part of my workflow I simply used "Add" for import to index the files on my memory card, inspected them and move unwanted files to trash, etc. before moving the remainder over to my NAS storage for further work. Now in LR 3.3 I can only select "Copy as DNG" and "Copy" as possible operations on my memory card, no "Move", no "Add".
What's up with that? Any way to fix that or do I really need to downgrade to 3.2 to be able to work again?
Any help would be really appreciated.

First of all: Thanks for all your suggestions how I might change my workflow to make it more secure and work with LR even in the future. It's really appreciated. However, and I know I'm repeating myself here, I deliberately bought LR specifically because one of 3 or 4 options that supported my established and perfectly working workflow; if I didn't care I would be using Aperture now since it is not only cheaper but has some quite clever features even LR doesn't have. BTW: If I didn't care about the UI I would be using Bibble which also supports my workflow but is inferior in usage and processing quality IMHO. LR 3.2 has broken my workflow in a very subtle but nasty way and there's just no way I will change my workflow just to keep continue using LR. I want to be absolutely independent of any vendor -- working with catalogs/libraries/databases is okay as long as it's only for temporary memorization of changes.
degger, I can understand your desire to do a review of the images before having to copy them anywhere, be it a temporary or final location. It could certainly save some time if there are a lot of images that simply don't need to ever make it off the card. Where I get a little confused is that you don't seem to be wanting to do it to save time. You cite bandwidth and storage concerns, and working off a laptop.
I'm not sure how extra steps and copies would save me any time. Really, it doesn't get any faster than this:
    1) Index/Render preview of all images on card
    2) Inspect those images and remove coasters (note that inspection might require zooming, comparing images for the best shots, applying some temporary modifications like rotation/crop/exposure correction to check whether the RAW base is good enough for later use)
    3) Move the remainder of the images (RAW+JPEG) to their final destination and clear the card
    4) "Add" the images from their final location into LR again and apply the real modifications, exporting the results back to the final location
Simple, minimizes burden on "final destination", minimizes local disc space use and is safe enough for my use.
As I said before: memory cards can and will(!) break at any point of their use, during shooting, during the creation of on-site backups, when pulling them on their laptop, etc. pp. The extra risk of my workflow is so close to zero that I really don't care whether a card fails or not. I'd rather use many smaller cards than one big one so I don't lose all of my photos at once and I empty them as often as I can rather than having them sit around forever. Also if you ever hit the delete button on your camera that at least as unsafe as deleting them locally.
What I do care about is that "final destination" is safe and I mean that in every possible sense of the word.
I didn't see you mention the quantities of images or data you're coming home with, so I'll take what I think is a pretty safe over-the-top estimate of two full 64gb cards per shoot. You say it's a major concern for you, working on a laptop, that you don't have enough local storage to act as a buffer for the images before you delete unwanted images. I guess I'm confused as to how you wouldn't have 128gb of space to act as temporary storage, even on a laptop. I know you say explicitly in one post that you don't, I just don't see how. A $100 drive upgrade doesn't strike me as a major roadblock in a complex storage strategy for someone with networked RAIDs and offsite backup. I could understand if this were a backlog issue, and you weren't sorting through images right away and there wouldn't be enough room for multiple shoots to sit in temporary storage. But that's clearly not the case since your workflow currently deals with the images before they're even off the cards. Spending a bit of money to get a larger drive might not be ideal, and it would require a bit of a change to your workflow but it seems like an awfully easy solution to this problem.
Right now I have 340,7 MB space on my harddrive free. That'll be like 10 GB once I cleared all that garbage I had to create to deal with this very LR issue. Every changed the harddrive on MacBook Pro? I don't think so; it's a royal PITA and requires a lot more effort than just walking into a store and buying a new harddrive.
I'm using brand 8GB cards BTW, many of them. I don't trust bigger cards because if they break I'll lose many more pictures. I usually carry more than 1 camera with me and I normally don't fill up the cards completely because it still is a hobby not a profession and I don't intend to turn it into one either.
I also don't follow the use of the trash as a safety net. I know it's not part of your workflow, just something that saves your hide from time to time, but it is very much working against the current. Just like I said previously, if you leave your cards untouched during this whole injest/sort/archive process, no matter what you do or happens to your local copies you will have the original copies on the card until you stick it back in the camera and hit format. Deleting a file (moving it to the trash) during the review/import process is introducing needless complexity, whereas just leaving the card alone offers some innate data security.
Really what happens when moving a file to the trashcan is a rewrite of the FAT table to have the files point to the new position inside a special directory name .Trash or something. I agree each write is dangerous to the safety of the card but it's not like we're talking about intensive writes or non-atomic operations here; the data itself remains untouched but it's directory entry is moved out of the way. As far as I recall I never had to recover any images from the trash but it makes me feel a little safer should I ever select the wrong image before hitting "Delete Photos...". And no, it doesn't introduce any complexity at all. Extra complexity is when LR has to import and render full size previews of images that are known to be rubbish and expect extra slowdown when keeping LR open for a long amount of time and doing many operations; my approach starts always with a fresh catalog and I can easily process my images in small batches to keep memory requirements down.
Before using LR I had to use a different programm just to preview the JPEG images and delete the RAW+JPEG pairs manually which was more of a PITA so I was glad to figure out that LR 2 had the capability to actually deals with the photos on card.
I actually don't see a problem with how your managing your file structure. It's nearly identical to how I do mine, but unlike you I have never run into an issue where I need to split up an event/session into multiple folders. Even with multi-camera shoots, a single event directory should be able to (for a Nikon camera, at least) hold at least [N * 9999] photos, where N is the number of bodies. How many cards you use during an event shouldn't factor into folder structure at all, unless you do it on purpose. Making another assumption here, but 10,000 photos in a single even is pretty unusual. If I have my camera configured correctly, even if I used 100 512mb cards for an event, as long as I stay below 10,000 shots per camera body, they can all go into the same folder without any naming conflicts.
Great, I don't see any problem either. Also all my cameras have different naming schemes so the names don't clash.
I would think moving the files to the NAS is equally as free, with comparable speeds over gigE. The offsite backup is the only part of this equation that could really become more costly as data levels increase. But, even el cheapo cloud backup services and bottom tier home broadband plans offer unlimited data storage and bandwidth; there's no unit variable cost even if you were to backup an entire shoot and decide a week later to trash every single shot. I know there are situations where those kinds of variable costs do come into play, but even with relatively expensive Amazon S3, the cost of transferring and storing 25% bad shots from even a large shoot isn't what I would consider cost prohibitive for a photographer doing that much shooting with an already expensive storage solution.
Okay, let me explain. My "bad" shot ratio is more like 80% rather than 25% due to the (sometimes) excessive amount of bursts to catch certain happenings or expressions. "Bad" shots consists of duplicates, shaken shots, undesired motion blur, bad expression/closed eyes, bad framing, bad exposure other bad settings or just my own trigger slowness, etc. pp. .   I have several levels of backup, ranging from online on-site unversioned to online on-site versioned to a second RAID over online off-site versioned to an encrypted hosted storage facility to off-line versioned and encrypted to external harddrives I keep at several locations. The versioned backups, especially of-site are a real problem here, the versioning is happening on a hourly basis so any change within on hour will be recorded and kept for at least half a year including long-deleted files. I do have limited upstream bandwitdh and I pay for both local and offsite storage capacity and for excess upstream traffic to my server.
Again. Photography is a hobby and I already invest quite a lot in it but there have to be boundaries.
For the import process it seems like you're using now, and looking to continue to use in the future, I'm wondering what you wouldn't be able to do just in the Finder. You've said the actual Lr database isn't of much value to you, so at the import stage why not just run through the images in Finder, delete whatever you want to right them, and then move on to any Lr specific or NAS activities from there. You'll still have the same use of the Trash, and it's easy enough to use quickview, large icon previews, and a shortcut key to assing a Finder label to bad images. Then just sort by labels and hit delete. I'm not honestly suggesting that as a good option, but it certainly is an option and seems to fill most of your requirements, especially since it doesn't care where the files are.
That's exactly what I've been doing all along. Two problems: Preview capabilities are really limited and I have to delete the RAW+JPEG pairs manually.
Then LR came along and now Adobe took the newly won comfort away.
I find it hard to believe that your simply not having a few extra gigs of HD space on your laptop or using a different backup service would create such a distinct workflow that the (fairly extensible) Lr import/management system becomes useless. But hey, maybe it does.
    Indeed it does.

  • Problem with 5300 and 2 GB memory card

    Hi,
I just bought 5300 phone and 2 gb micro sd card, sandisk.
And I am now storing music files to the card via usb connection and phone is shown to pc as a disk.
It transfers 990 MB of music and after that is says card is full.
From gallery it shows memory card as 2 gb card, and full status is 990 MB, free fine also. I tried transfer also with music manager same result. Like the 1 gb is the limit somehow.
    Is it ?

When I tried to switch it on again the screen started to flash and after 15 sec the phone switched off itself. It took for a while till I discovered that the problem somehow relates to the memory card. When it was removed the phone worked fine (no flashing, no switch off). I reformatted the memory card and everything worked fine till the next switch off. Then it started again. I updated the software (V 04.70), but it didn't help. I'm not 100% sure but it seems to me that the problem relates to the music player which tries to update the music library after the switch off and somehow it freezes the phone.
Any idea how to solve this?
    In short because I don't have a 5300 - No ...
However - something to try is to see if your card works without problems on a PC (via USB card reader) or laptop (some have memory card slots built in)
Lastly on Nokia's 5300 webpage it states that they only recommend using authorised cards ... it might be worth seeing if you experience the same issue with Nokia's own 2Gb microSD card ?

  • How can I get Verizon to return my memory card- There screw up

After screaming about 1x a week with this new pre-paid SAMSUNG phone, I finally was able to get the store to take the phone and replace it.  Sadly, I was so frustrated with Verizon for my phone never working, and  getting the run around, that I was glad to get the "we will get you a new one".
Wasn't happy that they can't just give me a new one off the wall. (that would be 50 bucks please. (phone was 30 days old).
SO, The guy behind the counter advised me, I would get a new one.  Took battery, I asked if  things were backed up, and he said "yes", the backup synch was set up. "like OK".
So, removed battery and the lid, and the case I bought for it, took my old phone and said wait for new one. (came in today).
I didn't even think of getting my 8GB memory card from the old phone at the time I left the store.
This was 3 days ago (26th of Dec). Today, my new phone came in, it was not synching, not doing the backup right, and then I realized my memory card was not there.
Nicely called the help desk thinking I was calling the store where i returned the phone.  NOPE, got tech support in a different state after 14 minutes of listening to switch witch and running around with button pushing. Just to be told "contact the store diectly".
Headed to store, advised of what happened, and the cheerful guy with hte IPAD, typing your name, pretty much said " to bad".  It's goneft
No help. Just me trying to stay calm, after the head-aches with this phone.  And now I am out an 8GB memory card, that Verizon, in their haste, never took time to remove (but did the battery), and I forgot to remove it myself.
Now, I want Verizon to replace the memory card.  Their phone was bad, every week complained about this phone, and in 30 days, I now had to get it replaced.
I take error in not remembering to get it. BUT, figured the techs behind the scenes would have thought of this.
Anyone know of whom I can contact to ask VZN for a new card?  I lost some vital pics and info from my realtor, and have to bite that, but this wouldn't have  happened, if I could have gotten some satisfactory service, and I still ended up 3 days without a phone.

I admit, I did screw up for not checking. I was just soo steamed with the customer support and going back and forth with phone and offices in Charleston, SC and here in VA, I was just getting frustrated with this phone that i had for 1 week, and couple with the craziness of the hustle trafflc of customers during the holidays.
Just a lot of crazy here, but my new phone is in, I had to get the service center to  reset things, as the backup synch wasn't right, and I will get a new card.
I just wanted a new phone that worked, and oversaw the issues.  This isn't the first time I had to return a phone, but last time, it was a slower pace, and no issues, and I  reminded myself to get the card out.
Got 99% of my contacts. Just wishing there was somehow to track the phone, and have hope, but it was nothing that was life critical.. And cost of new cars is cheap.
Chalk up to "pay attention"....  but oh, the frustration of 6 visits to the stores in 32 days I had that phone.  Ahh!
Happy New Year, and thanks for the replies....
