Memory Error Detected At Startup

After a couple days of frustration, I think I figured out why my mac becomes hung up at the grey screen with the apple in the center everytime I attempt to boot. As a quick summary, I went to upgrade quicktime and after the install, I was prompted to restart and ever since then, I was not able to get the machine to boot up. I was out of my mind fearing the HD and all of my contents went to the grave.
What I learned is that my memory, I think, has gone bad. I ran the hardware test and the message in the test results states that an error was detected at start up with the Memory. It says "2048 S0DIMM0/j25LOWER" as part of the error message...so I am geussing that meand the card in the the second slot crapped out on me. And after reading several threads, it seems pretty consistent with many other complaints who have this model and the same problem with the second memory slot.
Anyways, I also heard my logic board now also be ruined as a result of corrupt memory? Eureka! I haven't gotten that far to know for sure, but I thought I would post this thread to see if what I described has happened to others and what they did to resolve.
I have never opened up a powerbook before and changed / added memory, so I am walking into unknown territory. I was a PC user for many years prior to my powerbook and, unlike the mac, was pretty comfortable tinkering inside a PC. i am okay with jumping inside, but want to make sure I get some inside tips before an even potentially larger disaster!
So, my questions are:
1. Based off of the error message described above, is it the lower slot that is corrupt and do I simply remove the LOWER slot (they are two slots each with 256 mb)
2. If I do that, will it run too too slowly with only 256MB on the first slot that it's not worth using?
3. Should I just buy 1gig of memory and remove both 256 mb's from each slot?
4. Will this incident corrupt my HD??
5. What/where is the best memory card to buy at the most competitve price?
Also, WHY WHY WHY did this happen?? My memory card on my PC lasted forever...what is going on here? This memory was included with the powerbook from the manufacturer.

Hello!HERE is a good place to buy memory. It's unlikely that the MB is damaged and it is possible the ram chip has jarred loose. I'd probably try reseating it and if it still fails to work remove it as they do sometimes go bad. The link above may also have a video on changing the ram if you'll look under the tech tab on the site. 256 MB will be anemic on OSX so you'll likely want to replace the chip if it's indeed bad. Tom

  • NI Pal Service Manager memory error on pc startup

    Hello,
I have two XP-pc's with NI-488.2 (ver. 2.30) and MAX (ver. 4.0.0.3010) installed.
Both pc's give on startup an nipalsm.exe memory error (see attachment).
When starting MAX, (if no error) no installed hardware is shown.
On both pc's also McAfee Virusscan 8.00 is running.
What does nipalsm.exe (internal) that can cause this error ?
    With thanks,
           best regards,

    Hi,
I have some suggestions for you:
Try the latest driver, version 2.4:
    http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/websearch/1DDE5C48F30C2C658625702000681295?opendocument&node=132060_US
---> Don't install the new driver over the other one. First remove the old one.
Are you testing the same GPIB card in both PCs? If yes, does the error occur without any cards plugged-in?
Try a Repair of MAX in Add/Remove programs
Make sure that you install first the driver without the card plugged-in.
Check if no firewall is blocking the nipalsm.exe. Maybe you can check if the error occurs when you have no McAfee software installed. (I don't think that the problem is caused by the MCAfee soft but I haven't tested it yet with the latest version)
    Regards.

It looks like one of your memory modules may need to be replaced. You should probably send the log info to your support contractor for detailed analysis.

    OSX Yosemite 10.10.1
    Problem:
During the hard editing in Final Cut or work in Motion I feel like my mac starts to slow down.
Especially during sharing video to h264 format. Mac starts very slowly rendering.
After the first failure in the system, I found this errors:
first error occurs in one module, then after 15-20 min. in all modules
    Is this  a hardware problem?
If not a hardware problem, is there some well understood fix for this?
    Sorry for my English.
    Thank you!

    Use About This Mac > ( More Info ) >  ( Report ) > Memory
You may see that the Error detection-and-correction Hardware has found (and corrected) errors in some of your modules, as seen in this report:
    graphic courtesy anandtech.com
Modules that are giving errors are Bad. This is a Hardware Problem, but check to be sure the fan is running. If it gets a little bit worse, a Double-bit (uncorrectable) Error will occur, and you Mac Pro will halt on a kernel panic, machine check, uncorrected error or error overflow, detected by multiple processors at once. This is by design, to keep memory errors from poisoning your data.

  • Photoshop CS6 has out of memory errors under Mac OS X 10.7.4

Has anyone who has a 2008 MacBoo Pro with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB graphics card tried running Photoshop CS6 under Mac OS X 10.7.4?
On my MacBook Pro, PS CS6 launches; however, any action results in an out of memory error.  The CS6 versions of After Effects, Premiere Pro and Illustrator all launch and run as expected under 10.7.4.
If I switch to my Mac OS X 10.6.8 startup volume, Photoshop CS6 runs as expected.
I have support cases open with Adobe, NVidia and Apple.  Adobe thinks I need to update the display drivers.  NVidia says display drivers must be provided by Apple.  Apple says that the display drivers are current.  The Apple support agent said that he can escalate the case if the issue can be reproduced on more than one computer.
I'd love to keep my MacBook Pro running another year or so without having to reboot in 10.6.8 every time I need to use Photoshop.  I'd stay with 10.6.8, but of course iCloud requires 10.7.4.
I have not tried 10.8 yet, but it's on my troubleshooting list.
Also, PS CS6 runs fine under Mac OS X 10.7.4 on my 2010 iMac.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
    - Warren

It looks like it was indeed the display driver for the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 512 MB graphics card inside my 2008 MacBook Pro.
It seems that this driver only gets installed if you upgrade from Mac OS X 10.6.7 to 10.7.4 while the startup drive is connected to the MacBook Pro itself.  I had updated while the startup drive was connected to my 2010 iMac. Accordingly, I could have reinstalled Photoshop 100 times without it ever launching as expected.  Having used the external startup drive with three other Apple computers (all 2010 or newer machines) with Photoshop CS6 launching as expected, I had just assumed (mistakenly) that it would work as expected with my 2008 computer.
So, this was simple enough to resolve by upgrading the OS on the external startup drive while having it connected to the MacBook Pro.   In hindsight, this makes perfect sense.

  • Memory errors on 2011 mac pro

I am getting a lot of "memory" errors lately. I thought it was mostly limited to my 2004 Microsoft office suite – mostly Entourage – (yeah, I know, but my company hates to spend money on anything let alone upgrades to the current decade) running on my brand new Mac Pro with a ton of memory.
Today, though, I got a "not enough memory/cannot save" error in my newly upgraded FlexiPro 8.5 software. This error message is new.
Add it to the Entourage and Powerpoint problems, the fact that Adobe CS2 has its own issues, and it becomes an incredibly frustrating way to work.
Yesterday, I ran Disk Utility and it told me to startup from the installation disk and then repair. I repaired my hard drive with Disk Utility, started up from the system installation disk. It claimed to have repaired the problem it was having then. But... I am not getting any relief from the seemingly random error messages today.

Well, 3GB of memory is almost enough to boot and run a program, but other than that, anemia and starvation.

As for errors,  you are talking about parity or other errors, System Profile: Memory, then run AHT and Rember.
Depending on what you do and run,  even 6-8GB RAM should be absolutely minimum, with 16-32GB, and for CS 5.x 24GB.
Older applications one problem is they have to emulate PowerPC code via Rosetta which eats up 2GB or more of overhead.  Throw in Safari which is a memory hog and some others.
Take a look at /var/vm and the pageouts and swap files from Activity Monitor, though having zero pageouts or low is not a pure indication of having 'enough' for performance.

  • Why do I get a Track out of memory error while running open loop frequency response?

MatrixX Build 61mx1411: I get a "Track out of memory" error when I run the Open Loop Frequency Response from the MatrixX pull down tools. What can I do to prevent this? We are running on an HP B1000 with 768 MB of RAM under HP-UX 10.2.

In the old days of Mx say Version 5 and prior the user actually selected the amount of memory that would be allocated. Depending on the size of the model etc. you would have to allocate memory. In version 6.0 and going forward there is no need for the user to manually allocate the memory.
    Build {rstack=50000,istack=200000,sstack=50000,cstack=500 000}
If this is a command in a script file that you are running and the error is resulting from that then I would try commenting out everything after the letter d in the word build and then starting it back up.
    i.e. only use Build
I don't believe that there is a way to manually allocate the initial SystemBuild Stack size.
I believe initially the stack size is set to 10010.
    However, one way
you can manually set the initial SystemBuild stack size,is to create a large StateSpace as soon as you start up SystemBuild. This will prevent piece-meal reallocs while using SystemBuild.
You can created a new SuperBlock in SystemBuild and then drop down a StateSpace Block with 199 inputs and 199 Outputs and 1 State and entered ones(200,200)as the StateSpace Matrix without any problems. This would resize this internal stack to at least 40000.
You really should not have to do this but if that helps then you might think about doing this in your startup.ms file you could use SBA or load the file then you could delete the superblock and begin working.
"Bob" gave me this little tid bit.
Please let me know if any of this is of use.

  • Error detected while attempting to run job

    Hi everyone,
One of my users tried to run a rule in Hyperion Planning 11.1.1.3 and an error occurred:   Error detected while attempting to run job

I read that it could be an issue related to corrupted blocks. I'm not familiar with MXL and I read that there are commands that I could run. Someody could provide me help?

    Hello Abubaker,
It crashed due to a parity error.
     Imprecise Data Parity Error
     Imprecise Data Parity Error
Which in other words means, a temporary error in memory. On single occurence adivice is to monitor the supervisor for re-occurence of such failure again. You can monitor it for 24 - 48 hours and if its a hard failure , the likelyhood of issue coming again is more and you need to replace supervisor. If it does not repeat you can consider this as a one time issue and contnue using it.
Hope this helps and please always rate useful posts.

  • Out of Memory error while builng HTML String from a Large HashMap.

    Hi,
I am building an HTML string from a large map oject that consits of about 32000 objects using the Transformer class in java. As this HTML string needs to be displayed in the JSP page, the reponse time was too high and also some times it is throwing out of memory error.
Please let me know how i can implement the concept of building the library tree(folder structure) HTML string for the first set of say 1000 entries and then display in the web page and then detect an onScroll event and handle it in java Script functions and come back and build the tree for the next set of entries in the map and append this string to the previous one and accordingly display it.
    please let me know whether
    1. the suggested solution was the advisable one.
    2. how to build tree(HTML String) for a set of entries in the map while iterating over the map.
    3. How to detect a onScroll event and handle it.
Note : Handling the events in the JavaScript functions and displaying the tree is now being done using AJAX.
    Thanks for help in Advance,
    Kartheek

    Best regards,

Thanks for the answers. The oci8.dll is uncommented naturally. Otherwise it would start up just fine, but I couldn't use the database functions.
I got it working by installing 5.1.6, but replacing the oci8.dll with the one from the 5.1.0 -version. It's a very... desperate... solution, but at least it works.
I'm gonna have to try to sell the idea of using the 10g client to our DBA. I don't think though, that he'll be very enthusiastic to set it up on our production servers. We'll see.

  • Weblogic 6.1 deployment out of memory error - please help

I am getting an out of memory error when deploying an ear to a weblogic 6.1 server. I tried increasing heap size with the startup param. I also tried upgrading the jdk to 1.3.1_02. Here is how I am starting weblogic -
    "%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java" -hotspot -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -ms64m -mx64m -classpath "%CLASSPATH%" -Dweblogic.Domain=mydomain -Dweblogic.management.discover=false -Dweblogic.Name=myserver "-Dbea.home=C:\bea" -Dweblogic.management.password=%WLS_PW% -Dweblogic.ProductionModeEnabled=%STARTMODE% "-Djava.security.policy==C:\bea\wlserver6.1/lib/weblogic.policy" weblogic.Server
I tried 64, 128, and 256 for the MaxPermSize param and the larger I make this number, the longer the deploy takes. I also tried lowering the session timeout to 1 min from 30. Now, when I deploy to the weblogic connection, jdev writes the war, then hangs. The rest of my desktop is slow but responsive, but I let jdev go for up to 1hr when running this deploy, and it never even starts the weblogic.deploy call. I end up killing it. This ear is not very big and is a simple servlet.
    Any thoughts?

Generally error ORA-00600 is very complex to understand and in almost all cases that error is tried with Oracle Support. http://metalink.oracle.com . You have to have an account to open an iTAR and so on.
