Memory & Export & Media Encoder

Problem 1:
Is there in CS4 a way to export a standard DV AVI file (standard DV 4:3 source material) without having to use Media Encoder?   In older versions of Premiere (CS2 for example) all I had to do was "Export to Movie" which created an AVI file.  Now, I use "Export to Media", Media Encoder opens and has to load the whole darn project, then "encode" my timeline .. this take a LOT LONGER than I want.
Because I'm new to CS4, am I missing something?
Problem 2:
After I work in CS4 Premiere for a while (about 2 -3 hours), I get a warning that "Adobe Premiere is Low on Memory.  Please save your project and proceed with caution." ...    What's that all about?  I have to close the project and reopen to 'flush' the mem?
TIA,
jd

1. No.
2. It looks like either PPro or a third-party plug-in is leaking memory.
Please provide these details to help us help you.

  • Simple sequence, export media encoder launches, then nothing.

Simple sequence, export media encoder launches, then nothing.  How can I trouble shoot this.  I have no idea why this is failing.  I have tried a number of options etc. I am using CS4 on vista.

Harm, I followed your advice.  I am new to this forum and should have looked at the wiki about the 16 questions.  Once I did I noticed that the first item was remove Beta software.  I had beta software for Flash Builder and Flash Catalyst that had also installed (without me noticing) media encoder CS5.
Once I removed these Beta releases, the Media Encoder went back to CS4.
    Thanks for your response.

  • Long Projects exported Media Encoder 5.0.1 fail to finish

Exporting 90 minute P2 AVC-INTRA 100 sequence or a 90 Motion JPEG sequence fails to finish.  Both exports fail around 50%.  Media Encoder 5.0.1 fails to finish.  This is reminicent of PP 2 and CS3 days when long sequences would not finish.  In this case I ended up breaking up the sequence into two parts and the exports complete.  Suspect that media encoder 5.0.1 over time generates error that there is not enough disk space when there actually is.  Media Encoder indicates error compiling movie.  Maybe not refreshing itself during the export process.  Developers need to fix this asap.  Memory management may also be an issue with this problem.
If anyone is having this same exporting problem suggest you break up project into chunks for now until this is fixed by Adobe.
Cannot finish long projects with this bug not being fixed.

Have not tried that.  System configuration guys I talk to on a regular basis have told me that because Media Encoder is caching the project in memory that the appropriate way to to run and export via Media Encoder, when exporting your project, is to queue the export to Media Encoder from Premiere then start the encode in Media Encoder first then close Premiere CS5.  Something to do with the way they link or something.  However the problem I am having is exporting a long project (90 minutes).  Adobe had an issue a few versions back with this same issue of exporting a large project.  I suspect it has to do with the app no rechecking it's own processes or some piece of code that is stopping the export after a certain time or certain size when it should not.  Reported the bug to adobe and I hope they fix it asap.  I could be wrong as I am using a GTX 480 card and because mercury playback is not officially supported I could be having issues related to the card.  However, until I hear someone exporting a 90 minute or 2 hour movie in AVC-INTRA 100 or motion jpeg or Cineform without a problem I am pretty sure this is a bug.

  • Red r3d 3k fails on CUDA export Media encoder CC

Been having some problems with Red 3k.
Several times recently for some low budget stuff I have shot 3k and put it in a 720P timeline.
All of my 3k material will fail under media encoder CUDA export.....it works under software but a 20 minute CUDA encode is 7 hours with 3k in software encoding
4k 5k all work fine no problems.....just the 3k stuff. And this has been the case over several shoots for months.
It is also the same with 1080p sequences and at any frame rate, and it also fails from PPRO direct export (not queued)
    Thanks

Yes, AME queue is a problem.  I have a 28 minute weekly broadcast for a client that must be encoded in 6 different formats for TV Broadcast, mpeg2 DVD, vimeo, mp3, h.264 for vimeo, etc.  If I attempt to encode all 6 in the queue I will have some success and also failure.   If I queue several videos that all require mpeg2 (though with each requiring several different specs, i.e., upper field vs. lower field, mpeg2 dvd, mpeg2 HD, etc.) it will complete the task.  Yet if I add h.264 to the mix all encodes will fail.  I can encode h.264 by itself with no problems.  So yes, you are not alone.  Not sure what the solution is.  In CS6 one could queue all of these formats and walk away.  Can Adobe acknowledge these issues and then propose a solution?

  • Changing Frame Padding On Image Sequence Exports, Media Encoder

    Hello Adobe World,
I am using dynamic link from After Effects to Media Encoder and I am trying to export an image sequence with a specific numbering system for input into software code. Is there any way to change the frame padding or change the numbering system for Image sequence exports?
We are trying to speed up our workflow by Batch rendering from AME. AE does let us set our frame numbering and gives us an option for creating sub-folders (it's surprising the AE is much more organized in it's export options that AME). We need to be able to render more than one thing at a time and need to keep working in AE while the files are rendering. I have not found a workable background rendering plug-in for CC14. We could use AME if there is a way to fix the Number system.  We are working on a PC Windows 8. I can provide more system specs if it is necessary.
Side note: in AE we can use [#] to set the numbering value and in AME it does not work.
    Thank you for your help!
Still looking for an answer on this.... it's been 2 months.... Adobe team? Anyone?

    Change it to this?

There was a Red Giant bug in the Magic Bullet suite that caused problems with AME. Make sure you've fixed that.
Try a simple comp that is just a solid layer with no effects or animation and nothing else in the composition. If that works then give us all the details on your comp or try eliminating one effect at a time until you find the problem.

Every time I send the seq to Media Encoder, Premiere Pro hides my video layers and leaves only the audio layers. When I restart the project the workspace is messed up and I have to reset it. Do you guys know what is going on ?

    Yes known issue.

  • CS4 Premiere Export Media - Encoder

    Hallo,
could anybody help me whats wrong wiht my settings. Im exporting the video, but the exported video is shrinked/cropped whatever, i.e. its shown only as a mini-window of the displayed player window size... i.e. How do I get rid of the thick black frame of the exported video image ?

Thank you. I think I found the problem. At the beginning I had just chosen the wrong sequence Preset (where for example frame size, audio sampling are completely different than th source).
I solved this, just by opening a new sequence with the right preset. I already had the movie cut, so I copy&pasted the video cuts into the oter sequence.

  • Media encoder freezes after 4.2 update installation

    Hey guys,
I´m in a middle of a huge project and I updated premiere and media encoder to a new 4.2 version. After that I can´t get anything out of premiere cause every time I try to export media encoder totally freezes after couple of seconds after I´ve pushed start queue. I can´t do nothing but to force to quit. It happens while it is still loading the project and haven´t started to encode yet. What´s the problem here?
I´m on mac pro 8-core and cs4 master collection

How long did you wait before force quitting?  If it was only a minute or two, try longer.
If that doesn't work, then remove all of the old queue items from the AME.
Then save your Pr project, and clean the media cache database from Edit | Preferences.
    Reboot and try again.
If all of that fails, then trash your Pr and AME preferences and try again.

    Windos Seven PRo 64Bits.
    Merci d'avance.

  • Exporting to Media Encoder crashes Premiere Pro CC 2014

    Greetings,
I am experiencing a problem with premiere off and on. Right now it is an on problem. When I am exporting from Premiere Pro CC (and CC 2014) it will intermittently crash Premiere. I have tried this with several different audio and video formats (AVI [Lagarith and uncompressed], WAV, H.264, MPG2, AAC, etc). At the moment, every time I go to export to queue it locks up and hangs on the "Preparing data for export..." Media Encoder Launches and then it just freezes. I get "Problem Even Name: AppHangB1" over and over. Sometimes a full restart will fix this temporarily and sometimes it goes away for a long while. I managed to get a few sequences exported and then it just kept freezing on every PP CC restart.
    Here are my system specs:
Premiere Pro CC (up to date)
Win 7 64bit (up to date)
    i7 970
    24GB Ram
NVIDIA 470GTX (driver up to date)
    3 x 1.5TB internal
    4TB internal
    3TB internal
    12TB RAID 5 via USB 3.0
    USB 2.0 and 3.0 drives
FireWire audio device (M-AUDIO FireWire1814)... although, I am not using it for playback. It is connected.
Footage is from C100 H.264 .MTS, H.264.mov from 7D, and H.264 .MOV from iPhone.
All stock video plugins with a few third party audio plugs.
This problem happens with and without third party plugs, but it happens that this project uses them.
I have chatted with Adobe help twice about the matter and nothing has come of it. Log out, log in = same. Restart = same (sometimes), create new user account = same, and so on. The only thing I haven't done is completely re-install premiere, which seems a bit overkill. One of the reps said he would get back to me in a few days after he watched the issue via screen share. Never heard back.
I get the sense that this has something to do with PProHeadless.exe not launching or not running properly. When the crash happens on a fresh restart of PP CC 2014 PProHeadless is not running. I can start PProHeadless and it will send sequence to media encoder. When I try to export another sequence from the same project it crashes and I see another instance of PProHeadless launched.
Also, once the projects are exported to Media Encoder, I can encode them to any format with no problem. The problem is getting the sequences there!
Is there anything that I am overlooking here?
    Thanks for the help!

    Hi
    Premiere pro cc 2014  8.0.1 (21) build
    Encoder CC 2014 8.0.1.48
I use CC for Teams so it updates all the time.
Again when I tried to use it today by letting premiere open it by sending an output into Queue it crashed both Encoder and Premiere.
In order to shut down Encoder and Premiere I had to go into Task Manager and "End Process Tree" on everything adobe I could find because just ending Encoder did not work it would not close. I remembered that years ago when Premiere would crash we had to end a photoshop process. I found photoshop open even though it was not "alive" on my task bar. I had used it yesterday but had closed it. I also had to close dynamiclinkmanager.exe *32 as well as one of the three Adobe CDF Helper.exe*32. They popped back on but Encode closed and then I got a message that Premiere needed to close and did when I clicked the button to let it close.
After all this I re-opened Encoder by itself and checked the Preferences finding that Import Sequences Natively option was again checked.
By the way for me, "Launch AME manually, then drag the sequence from PPro's Project panel to AME's Queue (or to a preset in the Preset Browser). That uses a different code path than the File>Export>Media workflow." won't work most of the time because I do live events of panel interviews that may run 2 or more hours. I need to break them down to chapters for the web
Also I know this isn't part of this problem but I and many others would still love dynamiclink to work to Encore because the DVD is not dead yet. The current work path is a drag.
Looks like some programers and engineers have some work to do.
    Thanks

  • Videos export with purple/green artifacts/splotches/flashes with Media Encoder CC but export fine with Premiere Pro CC?

I use Premiere Pro CC to edit videos, and videos render fine when I export through Premiere Pro, but when I try to use Media Encoder CC, the video exports with weird splotches of green/purple artifacts all throughout. It almost looks like the video is glitching and having a seizure of green and purple. No idea why this happens. Could anybody help me? I use Media Encoder to export bulks of videos at a time through its queue feature, which is why I prefer to use Media Encoder for video exporting.
    Please and thanks.

    Mitch,
I was hoping that you and others might have some insight as to whether the purple and green artifacts / splotches seen in the attached screenshots (taken from 4 consecutive frames here but occurring through the entirety of the clip) could possibly have resulted from exporting video with ~ Premiere Pro CS5 or 6 ? As seen below, these splotches alternate back and forth between purple and green in every consecutive frame. I was also hoping that someone might know if this is a relatively common type of artifact and how it is caused.

  • Media Encoder crashes when exporting from Premiere Pro

Media Encoder crashes when exporting from Premiere Pro. I am queueing multiple files for export and Media Encoder will crash. The computer system has 32GB of RAM and the videos export fine in Premiere, but that requires exporting each one individually. Each video file is being down converted and some can be quite long (upwards of 3-5 hours). Nothing else is running on the computer that would take up memory.
Any idea why Media Encoder will crash?

    Try turning off GPU acceleration.

  • Premier Pro CC and Media Encoder crashing on long file export.

Please forgive the length of this inquiry. But it is complicated and has a lot of variables.
I have an hour long mixed format timeline both Red 3K footage and Black Magic ProRes 1080P footage that I want to make a DVD from and it takes forever and crashes half way through. I have tried doing it every way possible and the only way I was able to get even a partial export was using the "MPEG 2 DVD" export option in Premier CC. It goes fast at first telling me it will take about 2 hours but even though it starts quickly doing about 15 fps it slows down to less than 1 fps and finally just stops and crashes my Cuda Core enabled Macbook Pro Laptop.
I really don't know who to ask about this since there are so many different variables. I never had a problem like this on my MBP with PP6 on a 4K timeline exporting to DVD or Blue Ray or to H-264 or Even Prores. But I wasn't mixing formats either. But on this project the first 20-30 minutes of footage goes through fine in a couple of hours but something seems to be bogging down the system on longer projects. My work around was to break the project up into multiple exports and combining them on the DVD timeline but I can't do this on every project. I thought maybe it was a corrupted clip somewhere in the timeline but when I broke the timeline up into several parts I had no problems.
I did notice a dramatic variance in the time it took to export footage based on the sequence settings. A one minute timeline comprised Red 3K footage and ProRes 1080P footage Here are some sample export results:
From a Red raw 3K timeline 2880x1620  with 1080P Prores footage upscaled 150%)
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format    1:48 Minutes ***
    to .mov  Prores 422HQ  1080P                         22 Minutes
    to .mov H.264  1080P                    22 Minutes
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 1080P                                                22 Minutes
From a 1080P timeline Prores footage at 100%  (Red footage downscaled to 67%)
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format                         13 Minutes
    to .mov  Prores 422HQ 1080P                             13 Minutes
    to .mov H.264  1080P                                                             14 Minutes
    to .m2v Mpeg 2 1080P                                                            14 Minutes
Since I am going to DVD,  I chose the fastest option  Red to m2v Mpeg 2 720x480 format which only took 1:48 per minute. Why? I have no idea. Maybe someone here knows the answer. But again these numbers are for a ONE MINUTE clip when I tried to convert the whole hour timeline to  the 720x480.m2v DVD File the Red timeline froze my computer after several hours even though I had set sleep mode to “Never” and turned the display off manually and I had to convert it in multiple chunks. In 20-30 minute chunks it did go fast about 1:48 per minute like the test indicated. But I would like to be able to convert the whole hour and not to have to try to stitch the clips together in my DVD authoring program.
I don’t want to have to avoid using multiple formats on the same timeline or waste time transcoding everything to the same format.
Can anyone give me any suggestions as to why the computer is crashing or bogging down in long exports and what timeline settings I should be using?
I have plenty of room on my Scratch Disk and 8 Gig of RAM and according to my Activity Monitor during the export process  have about 800 Meg of System Memory during export but the CPU Usage is 98% and in my Activity Monitor I see under “Process Name” ImporterRedServer flashing up at the top of the list about every second during export.
Why .720x480 mpeg DVD setting is so much faster than all the other export codecs?
And if there are any other settings I can use to get higher speed exports in HD? 14x1 seems a little slow especially since every time it crashes I have to start over.

    Hi,
Since a long time I did not encounter the crash of Media encoder with
    long file export.
But I take care of a lot of details before the export :
    - clean up Media cache and Media Cache Files within PP CS6 and/or CC,
    - delete all render files with Preview Files,
    - rendering of sequences until the rendering is completed,
    - PP CS6 and/or Pp CC opened during export to AME and/or Encore CS6,
I guessed to leave Adobe but this company remains the last with a
serious authoring software (Encore CS 6).
    I tested :
    - Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro X, both are very good software but
no really authoring software for these video editing softs.
Th only way is to "flood" Adobe with "bug reports" and "wish forms"
which are not very easy to use.
And also to call the Adobe support day by day until they send they
    escalate the bug.

  • Adobe Media Encoder not launching when I clicked queue in Export Media

    Hi guys,
I have been trying for about 3 weeks now trying to render my work using Adobe Media Encoder but it just won't launch as mentioend in my subject line. Upon clicking on queue, the animation showing "preparing data for export" and "exporting data" appeared and disappeared and then nothing happens. Resuming to work on my project in Premiere Pro becomes impossible and a semi-transparent white screen appears over Premiere Pro and it hangs with a message from Windows 7 appearing saying that Premiere Pro has stopped responding.
Here are a few things that I have tried:
Updating all of my softwares included in the Production Premium Suite CS5.5
Deleting all files in the folder C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\5.5
Pressing Ctrl + Alt +Shift and launching Premiere Pro
Pressing Ctrl + Alt +Shift and launching Adobe Media Encoder
Opening sequence in Adobe Media Encoder to try to render
Called up Adobe Asia Pacific only to be told that I will charged something like USD$39 if they were to help me
    Disabling Mercury Engine Playback capability
The only work around I'm doing now is to copy the files to another computer and rendering from there.
Can anyone else suggest another way or point me in the right direction please?
My com's specs are as follow:
Windows 7 Premium 64-bit Operating System
    16Gb RAM
Intel Core i7 CPU [email protected]
    System type: 64-bit Operating System
    Display Adapter: nVidia GeForce GTX560Ti
    Many thanks people.

The X58 platform uses triple channel memory mode if you use 3 or 6 memory sticks, but if you use 4 slots, memory will only be used in single or dual channel mode, depending on which slots are occupied. Amount of memory has more impact than the mode used, but you may get better performance from 24 GB (6 x 4 GB).
However, I don't think that will solve your issue. Having only two disks is minimum. Adding a disk can certainly help, see Adobe Forums: Generic Guideline for Disk Setup
Have you turned of indexing and compression on both disks, have you uninstalled the sidebar, MSN and games? Have you disabled unneeded services, etc.?
It says Vista but also applies to Win7: Adobe Forums: Guide for installing and tuning a Vista...
DSLR material is usually HD, but .VOB files are SD, so there is a lot of scaling going on when exporting. Make sure you have enabled hardware MPE. Also have a look at Adobe Forums: System requirements for CS5
