Memory extension on Satellite P500-1J0

Hi,
I have got Satellite P500 1J0. It has 4GB RAM. According to manual it can be extended up to 8 GB.
What memory modules exactly to buy (brand, specs..etc)?
Thanks
Tomas

You are right. This P500 can be upgraded up to 8GB RAM. You can use two 4GB modules with part number PA3677U-1M4G. Please check this number.
I strongly recommend you to buy high quality modules. One of the best modules are Kingston modules. For compatible Kingston modules visit this page.

  • Satellite P500-12D - Can I use the nVidia drivers?

The Latest NVIDIA Drivers on the Toshiba update website are 8.15.11.8642 but there are newer versions on the NVIDIA website. I would like ot update the NVIDIA Drivers but I am having difficalties.
I tried to install version 195.62 (Win7 64bit) for the Geforce 200M Series fron the NVIDIA SITE but the install doesn't complete. I get the message: "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
Does Toshiba only allow their own versions of the drivers? Is there a way to allow the NVIDIA drivers to istall?

    Hi
Counter question: Why you want to use other display drivers? Are you not satisfied with the Toshiba drivers or can you notice any problems in Windows?
Theoretically its possible to use the drivers from nVidia directly but dont forget that they are not pretested on your notebook. Your graphic card could be overheating and so you will loose the warranty.
Satellite P500 is pretty new so I assume Toshiba will update the display driver in next time too. Just have a look on the page from time to time. ;)

    Windows is up to date,
The Geforce drivers are up to date concerning those on the Toshiba site. I cannot seem to install
the later versions avaliable directly from NVIDIA which is strange as I'm using a Geforce 230M.

    Hi
May I ask you if you have checked the system requirements of Civilization 4 firstly? Before you try to play a game you should check the system requirments. Is the notebook fast enough and very important: Is the graphic card compatible with this game?
    Check this!!!
If you can fulfill the system requirements you should make sure that the latest display driver from Toshiba is installed. Dont use the driver from nVidia directly, it doesnt have an overheat protection.
And have you installed the latest DirectX version?

  • Satellite P500 neither booting nor installing OS

Hello & Hearfelt Greetings to all Forum Friends,
Please, could anyone kindly look into this problem for me.
My laptop, a Toshiba Satellite P500 is faulty. It will boot past post and as soon as it reaches the "Windows Starting" logo splash (WIN 7), it will freeze and it will stay like that for hours. I changed the hard disk, the memory modules, I tried to re-install the OS, I tried to boot off a Linux Live CD and Live USB and USB DVD Drive, but all to no avail. I changed the configuration on the BIOS, then reset it to default, again to no avail.
Do you think it is a MB fault or CPU or GPU?
And does anyone have a suggested possible repair method?
I thank you all in advance and will be more than pleased to assist anyone !
    Thanks Again!

    Hi
You have already replaced the common parts like HDD and memory.
This was my first idea the memory or HDD could be affected but if you are sure that new parts are ok, then the issue could be related to motherboard.
Usually if the CPU would be affected, then the POST could not be passed properly.
So it seems that you motherboard might malfunction which means that the fix would be really expensive since new motherboard is one of the expensive notebook parts

  • Satellite P500 - Autoplay message pops up

I have a Sony Memory card in my Satellite P500 which is dedicated to ReadyBoost. It seems to work fine but there is one minor irritation.
Fairly often (=several times a day) an autoplay message pops up on the screen asking if I want to see the files on the card via Windows Explorer. I don't, of course, as there is only one ReadyBoost file on the card. The message offers a range of autoplay options but these are by content- music, pictures etc - but not by drive, so a memory card cannot be identified.
As I say, it is only a minor irritation but does anyone know how I can persuade my machine that autoplay does not apply to my memory card?
    Many thanks
    David

    Thanks Xardas & Peterk_1
In response to the various ideas -
I haven't tried a different memory card although I do have an SSD card in another slot. However the SSD can't be used for ReadyBoost according to Win7 (....this device does not have the required performance characteristics etc...). Maybe I should splash the cash to try another card. The driver seems ok though; I've checked a few times with the Toshiba driver download site.
The card doesn't show up in Control Panel/Autoplay but does in Computer>Devices with Removeable Storage.
I can't say that I have noticed any great difference with ReadyBoost except that I did originally used a simple memory stick for ReadyBoost and it seemed better when I switched ReadyBoost to the card. Could have been my imagination as the difference, if real, was slight.
I suppose I could switch off 'Use Autoplay for all media & devices' and just switch Autoplay on an individual basis - eg audio, pictures etc
Anyway, as I said, it is only a minor irritation but many thanks for the ideas - it is very good of you to help out.

  • Satellite P500 - Splinter Cell is very slow - low resolution

    Hey guys,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite P500.
    CPU Intel Core2 Quad processor Q9000 (2.0GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 6MB L2 Cache)
Operating System Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit (includes recovery partition for Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit)
    Screen Size 18.4" Widescreen HD+ TruBrite Display (1680 x 945), supports 720p
    Memory 4GB DDR2 (2GB + 2GB) (800MHz) expandable to 8GB
    Storage 1000GB (500GB + 500GB) (5400rpm) SATA
Graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (2286MB Total: 1GB discrete memory + 1262MB shared memory with ATI HyperMemory technology)
Optical Disc Drive DVD SuperMulti Double/Dual Layer
Now im trying to play games like, Splinter Cell Convictions and things of that sort, apparently, according to the Games website, i meet all the recommended specs. Yet when i play the game its on a very low resolution and all settings set to LOW!
Is anyone else having these problems with there Notebooks?

    Hi Sammole,
Sine few days I have Satellite P500 too. I have to say its a very great notebook, I love it. The screen is really good and big and in my opinion the best option for games, videos and all other multimedia stuff. Furthermore its equipped with fast CPU and graphic card, ideal for playing games.
All my games running fine so I dont know what happened to you. Make sure that the eco mode isnt active, this will slow down the performance.
Make also sure that newest display driver from Toshiba is installed and latest DirectX version from Microsoft.
Have also a look Splinter Cell homepage. Maybe there is an update (patch) available that can help you. :)

  • Satellite P500 performing poorly in windows 7

    I have a satellite P500, Model No. PSPE8C-026006 for 3 years. Core 2 Quad Q9000 @ 2.00 GHz, 2.00 Ghz, 6 GB Ram, 1TB HD.64 bits windows 7 OS. Even though it's 3 yr old, it's still decent Spec
This laptop is preforming really slugging from brand new. It took 10 mins to boot up, and load all the start-up programs. I understood there are a lot of Toshiba preload programs. I disabled a lot of them, situation is not improving. Later on, I reformatted the laptop, and reinstall window 7, didnt install any Toshiba programs, situation is still not improving that much.
Once started. It's quite slow to open any applications. It preforms like memory is not enough, like running latest Windows on a really old computer. Sometimes, it randomly freezes for a few seconds while watch videos or playing games.
alot of times windows 7 freezes while I am downloading. I have to force shutdown, then restarted the computer. check with Microsoft, stil couldn't determine if this is a software or hardware issue.
we have another laptop with much less specs (Core 2 duo @1.5 Ghz, 3 GB ram). did comparison on exact same scenario. running much quicker and smoonth than P500. both laptops have exact version windows 7 home on. things just not adding up
I have tried reformat the HD, reinstall the windows 7, upgrade BIOS, delete any program on system star up. Nothing really effective. Please help

    Hello
I have the same machine and use it daily. To be honest I agree with you: it is not the fastest machine but solid multimedia notebook. Few months ago Ive decided to tune it up.
The first step was RAM upgrade so Ive upgraded it to max level. It was a bit better but I was not so happy. Friend of mine told me that I should upgrade/exchange HDD with SSD so Ive ordered one.
After SSD exchange I was really surprised how fast notebook runs. It load Windows in 35 seconds only and open all applications in seconds. Everything runs extremely fast so if you want to have super P500 upgrade RAM and use SSD. Believe me you will be happy with your machine.
To be honest I like P500 very much and for me it is very nice Toshiba machine. I would not change it for any newer model.
What do you think about all this?

I do not get the problem with anything other than these type of games and i dont know why it is doing this, any help or adivce would be welcome.

    Hi
The forum already contains such threads where notebooks freezes after 5 or 10 minutes of gaming. Did you read them?
At the moment its not easy to say what is causing this problem but first of all you should install the latest display driver from Toshiba. Dont use non-Toshiba drivers because they can cause this overheating!!
Make also sure that you are using the latest BIOS version and its useful to clean the notebook from to time using compressed air spray.

  • Memory expansion on Satellite 2410

    Hi
I am planning to expand the memory of my Satellite 2410-601. It has 256 MB DDR at present. I am planning on using one more 256 memory module to expand the total memory to 512 MB.
What I would like to know is whether I can use any of the DDR memory modules available in market? Would there be any compatibility issues?

    Hi
    Do you know this site?
    http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=5548&ft=m&st=3
Here you can find the details about compatible memory modules for Satellite 2410-601.
It seems that the notebook is able to handle the 200-Pin PC2100 (266MHz) DDR SODIMM memory modules!!!
You could upgrade the memory up to max 1GB (2x 512MB)
    >Would there be any compatibility issues?
Generally you shouldnt have any compatibility issues. Its only important that you use the supported modules.

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite A60-218

    Hi,
Is it possible to upgrade the memory for the Satellite A60-218 models?
I've heard that the memory is onboard (internal) and cannot be replaced. Is this true?
If not, could somebody give me a hint where can I find the memory modules on this model?
I have tried disassembling it without success.
    Thanks!
    Levente

    Hello
Just for info: Satellite A60 has 512 MB internal memory and one sot only is available for upgrade. This unit can handle with max 1,5 GB of RAM. On the bottom side in the middle there is placed memory module cover. Remove it and you will find RAM slot.
For RAM upgrade you can use follow compatible memory modules:
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

  • Help me Identify my Model number of Satellite P500

    Hi To All,
Guys I have bought a new toshiba satellite laptop P500 Series. I am having hard time to identify it's complete model number. I have search the internet all over but still haven't found any luck in identifying it. Could anyone please help me in this situation.
    Model : Satellite P500
    Part number : PSPG8U-08F02CB       Operating System : Windows 7 home premium 64bit
I would be very thankful for anybodys help. Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot for replying. I have everything. I have even made my recovery DVD's. I got it from Dubai. I just wanted to know the specs through it's model number in a bit more detail.
When I bought it even then only it said P500. Just out of curiosity I wanted to ask that can I install a 2nd HDD ??? There is a compartment below I saw....
I wanted to ask also that I hear a sound below the left speaker like if the wings of the fan are touching something !! The sound is barely there but when it is turned on it's audible for 2 secs a bit loud than becomes quite but still is there if listened very very carefully. Just wanted to ask is it something alarming or I should just forget it. Because I love it as it is performing awesomely. No problems what so ever. It runs smoothly. I even updated the BIOS. Although I read in the forums many complaints of people about the P500 & also about the BIOS problem that occured after the update from toshiba service station. Thanks to God my laptop is working smoothly.
I think that the some of the P500's very faulty machinery or hardware or software problems. Just my opinion though. Hope to reading your reply soon. Thanks
