Memory Issues: Editing AS Files in CS4 10.0.2
Is anyone else seeing this? After several minutes (less than 10!) of doing nothing but editing a .as file, I see an impending crash in the form of little pink squares around the scroll bars. Most of the time, if I save right then, then exit Flash, I escape without losing any work. If I ignore the warning signs, or sometimes just by Ugly Surprise with no warning, Flash crashes.
It doesn't seem like using the app as an IDE for AIR apps, especially when doing little but composing and editing source files, ought to be that taxing.
Any ideas? Might this be a video card (NVIDIA) issue?
There are many possibilities (installation issue, hardware, etc). If you're able to share the file(s) and your system details we can try and reproduce the issue internally.
Thanks,
Jen.

Issues editing Layouts using Dreamweaver CS4 (ShopOnline)
Hi Everyone,
I am having Issues editing Layouts using Dreamweaver CS4 (ShopOnline). May be someone has encounter this problem. When I open the large_product.html in dreamweaver (after installing the extension for BC) the file opens, but when I go to the property inspector, I can not modify any of the css rules currently defined and no css is linked to this file. I looked at all the available css's and I could not find any with the defined rules in this page.
I need help. Thanks. It must be a module template layout that is being used. If you're on the latest interface it's under
Site Manager > Module Templates > Online Shop Layouts > Individual Product (small or large)
and if you're on the older interface it's
Ecommerce > Products > Advanced Layout customization (under the “related” box at the bottom right) -
Elements 8 editing raw file in CS4
I recently upgraded Elements (to Elements 8) and photoshop to CS4. I use elements to organize my photos but I like to edit in CS4. When I select a raw image in elements and select Edit in Photoshop, Photoshop CS4 does not open the raw image in ACR, rather it is opened directly in the CS4 editor. If I try to open the file directly from CS4, it is opened up in ACR. Any clues as to how I can get it to work from elements? Editing the file in elements does open in the file in ACR. Adobe elements is using the ACR plugin version 5.5.0.97. CS4 is using ACR plugin version 5.6.0.148.
Thanks. When I select a raw image in elements and select Edit in Photoshop, Photoshop CS4 does not open the raw image in ACR, rather it is opened directly in the CS4 editor. If I try to open the file directly from CS4, it is opened up in ACR.
This is a bug identified in PSE 7 that Adobe chose not to fix in PSE 8, evidently. See this tech note for a clunky workaround:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408150.html
Editing the file in elements does open in the file in ACR. Adobe elements is using the ACR plugin version 5.5.0.97. CS4 is using ACR plugin version 5.6.0.148.
You can update your PSE 8 to have the latest ACR 5.6:

I started a project in CS5 and I now have to work in CS4. I can't edit the files I have been working on because of the unavaliable capabilities. How can I fix this problem?
So you already somehow opened the CS5 file in CS4?
Then look into the layers panel and see what you've got. Most probably it's either a group or a clipping path. Release it and then edit.
But you would be better off if you first used CS5 to save the file down to CS4 and then edit it. -
IPhoto issues editing Raw files in PE4
I've just acquired Photoshop Elements 4 and was happy at the prospect or keeping my photos in iPhoto and editing them in Elements.
I mostly shoot in RAW format but when editing a RAW file in Elements I can't get the edit to show up in iPhoto (version 6).
On the other hand when processing jpegs from iPhoto to Elements the edits show up fine back in iPhoto.
Is the problem with the format change when converting RAW to Jpeg I wonder?
I did notice that when saving the edited RAW file -and choosing Jpeg as the new format- iPhoto defaulted to the "Original" not the "Modified" folder for the save. Couldn't iPhoto determine that the file has been modified? Is that because the extension was changed?
I also tried saving and manually selecting the MODIFIED folder but with unhappy results. The edit did show up, and in it's proper place, but when viewing in "full screen" mode the image resorted back to the unedited version after 3 or 4 seconds. I tried that a couple of times with the same results...!? I hope I didn't corrupt anything in the process!
I realise I could just do a "save as" to my desktop and import back to iPhoto but that creates a double and also a new roll for each import...
I haven't seen any posts about this. Has anyone had the same problem, or am I missing something elementary?
Thanks for any feedback.

PowerMac G4 FW800 Mac OS X (10.4.8)
PowerMac G4 FW800 Mac OS X (10.4.7)iPhoto is a consumer-level application, and RAW is a format mostly for professionals. When you import a RAW file into iPhoto it saves the RAW in the Originals folder and instantly creates a jpeg version of it in the Modified folder. This causes the problem with your editing workflow.
Yes, changing the file extension in Elements is the same as doing a Save As - it breaks the link iPhoto has with the original. This is why you don't see your edits back in iPhoto. Any time you change the extension you will need to save as to the desktop and import the edit as a new original into iPhoto. As you've seen, you cannot save directly into the iPhoto library folder because images must be Imported for iPhoto to recognize them. If you know which files you placed in there, go ahead and drag them out (using Finder) to your desktop. Then import. (Be careful not to tamper with anything else in the library folder while you're in there.)
My suggestion for your RAW workflow is to use Image Capture (in your Applications folder) to upload from your camera (to a folder anywhere outside of your iPhoto library folder). Edit in Elements. Last, import into iPhoto. Once inside iPhoto, the desktop copies can be deleted. You can set Image Capture to open when you connect a camera in Image Capture Preferences.
iPhoto does create a new roll each time you import photos, but you can always reorganize your rolls. Choose Library and View > Sort Photos > by Film Rolls and you can combine, create, retitle, and redate your rolls. For example, you could keep separate rolls for files with a RAW original versus files imported as jpegs. -
Issue editing CS3 files in CS5, hangs ID forever, 100% processor
When opening or modifying CS3 files in CS5, ID will hang forever.
Specifically, we have documents that have complex advertiser approval objects on the slug area, many are grouped and have script labels. We have multiple objects on the pasteboard, about 7 layers, some locked some not, master page items, and guides, etc etc. The ads themselves are pretty complex, can be from 15 to 90+ text and image frames. We have many fonts per ad (can be 10+) and the computers have about 250 families of fonts.
When I open a CS3 file in CS5, if I option-drag an object on the page, or if I copy the main page contents to a new template (converted from CS3), and try to move or manipulate some items, ID locks up and must be force quitted once the beach ball starts. I have tried to let it run its course for up to 5 mins. The lockup has happened more on text boxes than images, but I can clearly see ID hesitating when copying/moving objects. I am watching a processor monitor and can see 1 of my cores ramps up to 100% and stays there until I force quit.
The only solution I have come up with is to convert the document to INX in CS3. Then open the INX in CS5, and then most manipulation seems OK with no hesitation and no beach ball. Copying/pasting/dragging/putting into a new document is OK then.
Opening documents directly in CS5 almost universally (except for the simplest "hello world" document) will cause CS5 to die upon manipulation.
Setup: 4 core Mac Pro, 4gb ram, OS X 10.6.4, CS3 and CS5 install; also tested/reports of same problem on iMac 24 and iMac (2010) 27s, OSX 10.6x.
I'd love to be able to send crash reports to Adobe, but I can't actually get a real crash. I keep getting the Apple force-quit reporter. Any way to send that to Adobe?
ChrisI need to find out why this is happening or our upgrade is gonna hit the rocks. Anyone from Adobe here to read this? I'll be happy to send docs over. I can still have this hang CS5 with documents even when exported to INX.
Here's an Apple force-quit log:

Problem writing binary files with LV 8.5. I have one VI that does all the interaction/file I/O and another VI for testing. I find when I run the subVI where all the data reading/writing is happening with break points and single stepping through the code all is OK, but when I run normally the files are much larger than they should be and as well when I close the files I get a error. Any insights?
WalterWaltz wrote:
I found the problem, I was actually trying to close the files twice.
I don't see how this could cause the symptoms you described in the first post.
(It only explains the error on close).

So its is my understanding that time capsule will not start deleting old back-ups until its full and needs to make space for new backups?
Not entirely. It routinely "thins" backups according to the schedule on the Preferences window. The first backup of the day is kept for at least a month; all others are deleted after 24 hours. After a month, it keeps one per week.
So if you delete something that's only been on your Mac for a few hours, the backup may be gone in as little as 24 hours; if it was there for less than a week, the backup may be gone after a month.
Plus, there are many, many threads in this and the Time Machine forums where Time Machine had to do a very large or full backup unexpectedly, and had to delete many old backups to make room.
If you value your files, don't do that -- you're playing with fire.
Your best bet is to get a larger internal HD, so there's room for everything.
Second best is, get an external HD for the "overflow," and let Time Machine back up both your internal HD and the "overflow" drive.
Third best is to "archive" some data, to CDs/DVDs or a portable external HD. If you use CDs or DVDs, make two copies, and store at least one in a dry place out of the sun (and one off-site, such as your safe deposit box). Every year or so, read them back in and re-copy them, as they don't last forever (especially the --cheap-- inexpensive ones). -
Saving EPS Files in CS4 without the artboard
I am having an issue placing eps files using CS4.
If you save an EPS file in Illustrator CS4, the resulting file retains the entire artboard... So when you place the file in Photoshop, the graphic is too small. If I open this eps and simply resave it as a Illustrator CS3 EPS, it places correctly... Meaning the artboard in not included so the graphic is as large as the photoshop canvas.
There has to be a reason for this change and some way to force CS4 to save the eps files like it does for CS3, but I can't find where... Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

Editing powerpoint files in sharepoint
Hi,
One of my clients is having issues editing powerpoint files in sharepoint 2013 (Office 365 hosted).
He gets the following error when clicks edit and then clicks check out.
"We're having trouble connecting to the server. If this keeps happening, contact your help desk."
I have managed to work a fix for him by getting him to click the ... to the right of the document and then clicking check out and then opening the file again to edit it. However this is a sudden change to his process and an extra few steps he does not want
to keep having to do.
He is currently not the only user in the organisation to having this problem either.
I have tried trawling through many instances of people having this error but it mainly seems to be in the links to the files which does not seem to be the case here as I have checked that problem. There must be some other underlying issue that due to my
lack of experience with SharePoint 2013 (Office 365 hosted) I just am unable to discover.
Thanks in advance for all help and advice it will be much appreciated!try these links:

CS5 save as CS4 makes Large File and sees virtual memory issue
Two CS5 flash files. FileSource 27Mb File Destination 21.8Mb
They open in 80 seconds for each.
FileSource has 15 MovieClips, 5 show areas of the map in a variety of colours, shape intensive one could say ! These are made into one movie clip and copy pasted to the FileDestination. In CS5 it then crashes.
I turned these instead into CS4 files, they open in 10 seconds ! WOW !!! I needed to adjust the text which had become two lines from one though.
I try again for the CopyPaste of the movie Clip from library to library, this time I get a message Flash is out of memory. To increase virtual memory, quit Flash and allocate more virtual memory in the Systems Properties dialog box.
In there I see
Initial 2046Mb
Max size 4092Mb
Recommended 4605Mb
I alter this to:
Initial 3800Mb
Max 4600Mb
Reboot PC (Win XP SP2 wih 4Gb ram, purpose built video editing suite) and try again, but again get the memory message. Such a powerful PC should handle Flash. PC at work also crashing with CS5.
I thought I was winning with the quick handling of the files in CS4 but File size is now alarmingly FileSource 76.1Mb and FileDestination 58.4Mb WHY ? and why does it open them so quick but fall over on the copy paste ?
CS4 opens these in 8 not 80 secs, but that save as CS4 has bloated their file size, quick to open but causing virtual memory failure.
I am defeated
Does CS5 have some way of keeping size down ? I can’t use CS5 as it crashes when pasting the MovieClip from the source file to destination.
Can I get Flash to simplify the layers perhaps ? There are many shapes of the same colour which perhaps could be fused into one, lessening the number of vector edges. How is that done ? I am making an swf file for a clients powerpoint slide show.
EnvirographicsPossible good news. I've been away and hadn't opened DW since also having had a problem with Finder and external drives on my return. When I opened it today, and needed to do a 'Save As' , it did it with no problem of rendering. Though there have been no DW updates, there was updates to PS and ID. So I'll tentatively say the problem has gone away - hopefully for good.
Just editing this post. I happened to turn Live View on etc.. for the first time in a couple of weeks due to the above. I realsied this morning I hadn't turned it on. Now it is just as before when I try to 'Save As' - blank, an then have to close and reopen for it to render (even though the Live View/Live Code is now stiched off).
No I don't know how to turn this thread back into an 'Unanswered' question.

Edited Raw Files Won't Open In CS4
I run Lightroom v 3.3 and now that I have sorted out a CS$ problem I am unable to open an edited nikon raw file in CS$ via the option Photo/edit in/CS4. I get this message 'Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected files at volume/........ for editing. It will not be opened.
So whilst I used to be able to open seamlessly and edit raw images in CS4 after doing work in LR3.3 I cannot now do so. Is it an issue with Lightroom (I suspect it is) or a setting in my camera D3s?
Just prior to this I could not open these same files in CS4 without a serious degradation in the colour but corrected that by unchecking 'compensate for scene-referred profiles' in colour management in CS4.
I am Mac with latest snow leopard OS.
Can anyone advise, please?Sorry You can actually upgrade to Camera Raw 5.6
Delete the existing Camera Raw 8bi file from the File Formats Folder before starting
Click and download the plug-in
Open the zip folder you just downloaded and click Extract Files.
You should see the plug-in file you need. The plug in has a file name: Camera Raw.8bi
Now drag the plug-in file (or copy it) into the File Formats folder in the following location:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 6\File Formats\
Note: Before you start the download you need to do some preparation. Navigate to the File Formats File on the Laptop and move Camera Raw.8bi I suggest you move it from the File Formats folder to My Documents or drag it to the desktop before you begin. This will prevent it being overwritten by the new Camera Raw file (it will have the same name) and you can always move it back again if the download installation fails.
If your laptop is running a 64-bit edition of Windows, then move the plug-in file from the unzipped download folder by navigating to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats. -
PSE 8 and CS4 Editing Raw Files & Version Sets
I currently have PSE7 and CS4. While I use Bridge for the initial download and review I like the organizer in PSE better. PSE7 has problems interfacing with CS4. Raw files open directly instead of opening in camera raw in CS4. Version sets don't work either; the updated files is deleted by PSE. My question is whether anyone knows if these issues have been addressed in PSE8. I tried to ask Adobe but all I got is that they tried to work on these issues.
It appears that the PSE 8 displays the same characteristics when editing RAW files. The link between CS4 and PSE Organizer shows the same problem, for editing JPEG images also. The edited version does not get saved and yet is added to the Catalog.

I just bought a new Macbook, and I tried transferring my Photoshop CS4 and Bridge to my new one via my external Hard Drive. It's worked in the past (I did it when transferring my desktop to my laptop), but this time, I am unable to open or edit RAW files. Bridge won't even allow me the option of "Camera Raw Settings" when going under "File".
I've tried searching for answers to my questions through these forums, and the closest I have gotten is that I need to download the updated Camera Raw plug-in, and I can't find it. Also, I need to download the update to the DNG or something like that, which I did, and that still doesn't work. I've extracted and refiled my RAWs to DNG's, and they will still not open in either Bridge, nor Photoshop. So, now I'm feeling helpless and I'm getting very frustrated at this point.
I shoot with a Canon 7d in RAW format. I've done this for years, and my computers have opened them with CS4 since I've had it.
I appreciate any and all help, thank you!"Moving", copying, transferring or migrating Adobe applications is to be avoided at all costs.
Always install from the original media, from scratch, then apply all updates available all over again. The Camera Raw plug-in, for example, is buried deep inside your root level Library.
Your best course of action is to uninstall CS4, download and run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and re-install CS4 as per the previous paragraph. -
Lightroom opens Photoshop CS4 for edit but file doesn't open
I have tried looking for this thread but have not found it... 447 threads are a lot to scan...
When I try to edit a Lightroom 2.3 file in Photoshop CS4 Extended, Photoshop launches but the file does not open (same for all other edit options: layers, pano, etc.) and the follows box appears in Lightroom: "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS4 could not be launched"...
I have Windows XP Home Edition with SP3... over 3GB Ram... and all current Adobe updates...Ah, now in that case this is where you'll find everything that you need to know, including access to the download. http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4579
Having said that, with a Mac doesn't Camera Raw install automatically from within CS4 by choosing Update from within the Help menu?
Oh, and another thing. If you open CS4, go up to Help, from the drop-down choose About > Camera Raw. If it indicates 5.5 then the raw plug-in is already installed in the correct location. It won't show if it's not installed in the correct location.
