Memory leakage in Firefox 17.0.1 related to a single webpage- is it a FF bug?

How to reproduce: open this page, leave open for 5-10 minutes, and make it active: http://www.pickpackpont.hu/csomagkereso?bc=
Make another page actice, wait a minute, go back to this a few times. Memory consumption temporarily goes up, sometimes above 700 MB with only this page, downloads and about:memory open.
System: Firefox 17.0.1 on Ubuntu linux 12.04 + MATE DE
hardware: Sempron 2800+, Abit KU8 motherboard, 2x512 MB DDR400, ATI Radeon 9200SE 5964 (AGP) (not supported, running in VESA mode)

After filtering out ||pickpackpont.hu/static/pubimg/* &
||pickpackpont.hu/static/banners/* using flashblock, memory usage returned to normal. These filters are related to the banner list of partners at the bottom of the page. I also emailed the webmaster of the page. Just in case if it's not a FF bug but lazy web programming.

Firefox 4 begins swapping pages to disk after just an hour of usage or less, slowing down the system (a modest: P4, 256MB memory). It seems like a common problem across all platforms. 3.6 was fine.

256 MB is not much memory these days.<br />
Can't you add more memory, so you have at least 512 MB or better 1 GB?
If Firefox uses too much memory and the OS start swapping then you can try to close and reopen Firefox to clear all used memory and start fresh again.

  • Memory Leakage in dlls called through JNI

I have some dll that are called through a JNI code that have a memory leakage. I need to find how much is that.
Do we have some functions for that to find it in the code.Is that possible without making changes in the JNI code.
I checked but all suggest a memory leakage tool. But i want to do that writing a code in Java.I have checked for the Runtime class but it only finds the JVM related memory usage and not the dll one.

I checked but all suggest a memory leakage toolEither that or you manually inspect and/or test the code yourself (in C/C++).

  • Norton reports high memory usage with firefox and it crashes often

Norton antivirus 2011 has pop up warnings reporting high memory usage from Firefox. I have been getting theem often and my computer is crashing often after those pop up warnings. Thanks

    Safe mode did not help.
I have disabled ALL extensions and plug-ins, but the problem with "zig-zag" memory usage still remains (I've not tried to leave browser open for the night yet).
I think I'll do clean reinstall with completely new empty profile (without sync'ed information) to try this out. If this works, I'll start adding stuff (configuration, sync, features, etc) to see what causes the problem.

  • Memory leakage Macbook pro retina 15inch Early 2013

    Hi,
This is my first posting to the Apple community, so please forgive me if have missed a previous posting on this subject.
I have an early 2013 15 inch MBPro retina running 8 gigs.  My previous device was a MBpro 15 early 2008 4 gigs of ram.  I never expected the 2013 with double the ram to be constantly dropping below 2 gigs with only FireFox and/or MS word running.   The older 2008 device used only 2 gigs to run these programs.  It appears that the 2013 model is using 6 gigs.
I took the 2013 15 inch  MBpro retina to the Apple store for the Geniuses to run their diagnostics.  They said my device was running normally.  To prove such, they simultaneously opened Jim Carrey's web site 8 times and showed me that all of his the crazy stuff was working in each window.  They said that it is normal for a SSD machine to run on low memory.
Unfortunately, it has been my experience that when my memory drops when just using my normal Firefox based surfing,  my track pad scrolling starts to get very sluggish until my "memory clean" kicks in at 1.6 gigs and brings the memory up to around  2.5 gigs.  As I continue to surf, then the process repeats itself.  I never expected my old 2008 device to use significantly less ram running light applications better than my new 2013 device.
I have seen others post an "EtreCheck" and hopefully by posting mine, somebody can find what the Apple Geniuses could not.
    Thank you for your help!!

For OS X 10.9 and later it is normal that all memory is put to use. This shouldn't cause any slowness though (it doesn't on my rMBP with 8GB).
Have you tried things like SMC Reset, PRAM/NVRAM reset and Safe Boot?

  • Excessive memory usage with FireFox 3.6.8

Is it normal for the total memory footprint of FireFox.exe and Plugin-Container.exe to be 1.14GB (488MB and 651MB respectively)?
When first opening FireFox, it's footprint is approx 30MB, but inexorably creeps upward as I browse (typically YouTube/Hulu/4chan/GMail), consuming nearly 60% of total system memory before performance loss demands a browser restart.
Is there any workaround or update/patch or command-line argument that will cap memory usage? Will rolling back to an earlier version of FF solve the problem, or is it a problem with Flash? Any advice would be appreciated.

This is caused by the Flag Fox add-on, you can either disable or uninstall it.
    # Open the add-ons manager - in the menus select Tools, then Add-ons
    # In the add-ons manager go to the Extensions panel
    # In the list of add-ons click on Flag Fox to select it, then either click on the Disable or Uninstall button
    # Re-start Firefox to complete the process
Do you have Personas Plus 1.6 installed? If you do try disabling that one instead, it has been causing problems with add-ons.

  • Keep getting this msg: AVG HAS DETECTED A HIGH MEMORY USAGE BY FIREFOX--TOTAL MEMORY; 292 MB. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO CLEAR THIS

see question above and help me please... it's slowing down my computer.
    JH

The figure may not necessarily be high depending what you are doing with firefox. Do you know how much RAM is installed on your computer ?
The report is apparently being generated by AVG software, you will need to consult the AVG manual or its faq/site/forum if you want to turn off such notifications.
Note if you go to ''about:memory'' in the firefox location bar it will generate a report that you may find useful. See also [[high memory usage]]

does making objects equal null help the gc handle
memory leakage problems ?To an extent yes. During the mark phase it will be easier for the GC to identify the nullified objects on the heap while doing reference analysis.
does that help out the gc to collect unwanted objects
??Same answer as earlier, Eventhough you nullify the object you cannot eliminate the reference analysis phase of GC which definitelely would take some time.
and how can I free memory avoid memory leakage
problems on devices ??There is nothing like soft/weak reference stuffs that you get in J2SE as far as J2ME is concerned with. Also, user is not allowed to control GC behavior. Even if you use System.gc() call you are never sure when it would trigger the GC thread. Kindly as far as possible do not create new object instances or try to reuse the instantiated objects.

  • Microsoft throws error message of low memory becoz of firefox 27

My system always throws a low memory error when firefox is running for couple of hours. I do open some 20 tabs in firefox at a time usually but even sometimes when there are less than 4 tabs it still throws me this erros.. and the only way out is to shut down firefox. memory usage is 692,113K .. I guess its a real big memory leak .

hello, can you provide a screenshot of this message. depending on how many RAM you have available and on the complexity of open tabs 700.000k RAM usage may not be that unusual for modern browsers...

  • Memory Leakage in Conky with Lua

Hi there, I've been experiencing ongoing memory leakage using my Conky + Lua scripts. It tends to keep accumulating memory until I kill the process and restart it. Highest I've seen it go is 10% of my 4gb of RAM, so it does get to be substantial if unchecked.
I did google it, and it mentioned something about cairo_destroy(cr), so I inserted it at the end of functions randomly where it made sense (to my limited scripting skills) and where it didn't (just in case), but it didn't seem to make any difference.
Here is the lua script - it creates rings as % bars, I believe it was taken from somewhere on the arch forums months ago where it was also modified.
    Ring Meters by londonali1010 (2009)
This script draws percentage meters as rings. It is fully customisable; all options are described in the script.

No I meant that the destroy functions should not be in conky_main at all. Why? Because you are using cr as an argument when you have no local cr defined. You are passing the undefined value (nil) to these destroy functions and they do nothing.
Like I said, I don't use conky or cairo but it is generally a good idea to destroy a resource you create. If you don't you will get memory leaks because "creating" is usually vague language that comes down to allocating memory and "destroy" deallocates memory.
This line from your own post creates a surface and stores it in the cs variable:
    local cs=cairo_xlib_surface_create(conky_window.display,conky_window.drawable,conky_window.visual, conky_window.width,conky_window.height)
Yet you forget to deallocate the surface stored in cs. So add a line like this after each cairo_destroy(cr):
    cairo_surface_destroy(cs)
    I hope that helps.

  • Vision OCR memory leakage

    Hi guys!
I have a "problem" with simple OCR vi's made with Vision Assistant in NI Vision 2011.
When I create a simple script, that only uses the OCR, and then create a .vi from it, the vi leaves the OCR session open. This results to huge leakage of RAM memory.
You cannot even get the OCR session out from the .vi automatically when creationg the vi, so that it could be disposed outside of the .vi! So only solution I could figure out was to actually modify the .vi and build it inside there. Also the .abc file for the OCR have to be built, because it's not necessary in the same drive or base path, and Vision Assistant uses the whole path e.g. "D:\Labview Projects\OCR\... ...fonts.abc".
It wouldn't be a problem unless I and especially others wouldn't be creating those OCR -vi's all the time. Now every vi have to be manually changed to dispose the session AND to take the .abc -file path in reference to the executable path.
If somebody knows any solutions for this, please don't hesitate to tell me Thanks!

    Hi,
System.gc() only suggests the objects are removed but there is no obligation for the JVM to do so.
The implementation of different JVM's will approach this event in different ways. For example an embedded JVM might be designed to nearly alwaya remove objects that have no reference left.
Anyway this is not strictly speaking memory leakage because if the JVM decides to it CAN remove the object.
Real memory leakage is where a series of object references are created and not destroyed and so they persist in time because they cannot be GC'ed.
A typical example is to create an object, stick it in an array of objects for some processing and then set the original object reference to null, thinking the object can now be GC'ed. But it can't unless the object reference in the array(which is a copy of the original object reference) is also set to null.
    Hope that helps,

  • How to find memory leakages in every screens and components in an Flex application ?

    Hi Guys,
I was running my flex application and left it running over night.
I noticed that it had a memory leakage issue. The memory leakage was huge upto 1.5gb
Is there is way i can find out from where (which screen? and which component?) the memory is leaking in my application.??

That's why FlashBuilder has a profiler.  There are some tips for use on my
    blog.

  • Find memory leakage when passing Object Reference from Teststand to vi

I am using Teststand to call labview vi, and pass ThisContext of sequence to vi as object reference, but if I just loop this step and I can find the memory using keep increasing, how can I avoid the memory leakage inside the vi.
see my vi, it is to post message to UI.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You should be using a close reference node to close the references you get as a result of an invoke. In the code below you should be closing the references you get from the following:
    AsPropertyObject
    Thread
Close those two references once you are done with them.
Also make sure you turned off result collection in your sequence or you will be using up memory continually for the step results.
    Hope this helps,
