Memory location on Satellite Pro A40-742

Hello,
I'd like to expand my memory, but can't find WHERE to put the memory? No usermanual unfortunately.
Thanks for any advice.
Ren

The memory slots are placed under the keyboard.
First you have to remove the keyboard holder (part between keyboard and display). Then remove the screws securing the keyboard and now you can remove the keyboard.
Now you can see both RAM slot behind the insulator.
If you dont have experience how to disassemble a notebook ask a technician for help.
This is always a little bit tricky.

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro A40

Can anyone please advise where is the best place I can get a memory upgrade for my Satellite Pro A40 laptop.
I think my machine is a PC2700 DDR. I am looking for either 512mb or 1gb.
    Thanks in advance.
    Christine

    Hi
On the Satellite Pro A40 you will find 2 memory slots and you can upgrade the memory to max 2GB (2x1024MB)
It should be possible to use these modules:
    PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51)
    PC2100 1GB (PA3278U-1M1G)
    And
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G
I purchase the compatible parts and devices always form the Toshiba service partner in my country because so I'm 100% sure that this parts are compatible.
So I would recommend you also to buy the modules form the ASP in your country.

    Hi Femi,
Your L10 has two memory slots available and will support a maximum of 2Gb RAM (2 X 1Gb modules).

  • Replacing the DVD/CD-RW drive on my Satellite Pro A40

    Hi there
Does anyone know if a Toshiba DVD/CD-RW drive with the model number SD-R2412 will be compatible with my Satellite Pro A40? If not does anyone know where i could find out? Some muggins broke the CD drive on my laptop by knocking the case off a parcel shelf. As a result i can't claim on the warranty...comes under accidental damage...bah. :-(
A friend of mine thinks the new drive may need either CSEL or M/S adjustment...what is this exactly and will i need it for a Sat Pro A40? The model number of the laptop is PSA45E-0184H-EN
    Thanks!!

    Hello
Sorry but I can not tell you which model will fit your notebook because there is no a public document about that. I know that your drive is fixed mounted and if the warranty is still valid you should not o anything alone because you can lose your warranty. I have also found a information that your unit can also use a DVD-R,-RW drive. These kinds of information have all Authorized service partners. Try to contact them. I am pretty sure that they can give you proper information about that.
    Bye

  • Re: Satellite Pro A40 - Can't find boot order in BIOS

Hi, we have a very old Satellite Pro A40 with a new hard drive.
We're tryng to change the boot order in BIOS to recognise the CD drive ready for the windows disk. However, there seems to be no option to change the BIOS boot order and yes we've tried the Toshiba route which suggests pressing C during boot up and F12 to select the drive during boot up, neither of which work.
    Please can someone help?
    regards
    Karl
PS: The current message on the screen during boot up is BOOTMGR is missing

    Hi karl1966,
Have you checked if the CD/DVD drive is recognized properly in BIOS?
Maybe your disk is scratchy and you should try another one. I dont know which disk you have used but try it with Toshiba recovery disk and Microsoft Windows disk.

  • Satellite Pro A40: Cannot play musik - searching for audio controller

    Hi
I have a satellite pro A40, my DVD rom drive wont work anymore and I keep getting a message about searching for hardware for a multimedia audio controller!!!
Cant play music or anything anymore.
Can i download these drivers safely?
Don't want to clog up computer with random downloads from internet.
If anyone can help me I would eternally grateful

    hi satproa40,
you can safely download all drivers for your satellite from: [http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp]
the "multimedia audio controller" means the sound driver,
if previously installed it may help to delete this item in the device manager and let it reinstall by system.
same procedure with the dvd-rom, if this wont work try to exchange the drive...

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro A200

Have two Satellite Pro A200 #PSAE1E-00T002EN laptops and wanted to know if I can upgrade the 2 x 1GB memory to 2 x 2GB?

As I understand you request, you want to upgrade the notebooks memory to 4GB.
Well, I think its not possible.
The Satellite Pro A200 supports max 2GB RAM (2 x 1GB) so you will be not able to use 2 x 2GB modules.
    Best regards dude

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro L40-15d

    Hi
I have Satellite Pro L40-15d with 512 memory (Samsung) but I wont upgrade to 1GB. I have Kingston ktt667d2/1g I have tray to put in to both slots but nothing work I cant switch on computer.
But when I change for old one laptop is ok. What can I do? Install special program or update BIOS or maybe the memory stick is broken.
    Regards

    Hi
    The notebook doesnt boot after the memory upgrade due to these different issues;
    - memory modules are not compatible together
    - memory modules are not compatible with the notebook
    - memory modules are faulty
    - one of memory slots is faulty
In most case the memory module replacement helps.
One hint; did you try to switch the memory modules in the slots? Sometimes this helps.
Several weeks ago I have updated my memory and the notebook didnt boot.
I thought its a memory malfunction but after module switching the notebook booted correctly.
    Good luck

  • Memory Upgrade on Satellite Pro A10

Can anyone advise me as to the correct RAM type to upgrade my Satellite Pro A10. Its a standard 256mB at the minute and I'm thinking of slotting in an additional 512mB next to it - but am bemused by the array of memory types and nomenclatures - DDR - SODIMM etc !!!
Handy with the screw drivers but not so hot with the acronyms. Many thanks to you all out there who know the score!

    Hi
I understand you very well and sometimes Im also a little bit confused because of the whole notations in the computer world.
The Sat Pro A10 supports 200-Pin PC2700 (333Mhz) DDR SODIMM modules and you can upgrade the memory on this notebook up to 1024MB (2 x 512MB)
You could check this memory module page:

  • Memory Upgrade on Satellite Pro A60

I have upgraded an A60 Pro with a 1GB memory up but the Control Panel /System/ General tab still shows it as having 192MB RAM. This limits me downloading some Security Software from BT Yahoo.
Can anyone advise on how I can make the machine recognise the new RAM or is the 192 MB RAM noted different memory from the new memory upgrade?

If you use non-compatible RAM module it is logic that system can not recognize it correctly. I do not know who is the manufacturer of this 1 GB RAM module but if you want to use compatible one pick up some info about PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G) or check Kingston web page.

  • Memory upgrade for Satellite Pro A60

I would like to put in a 1gb memory chip in my current A60 as it only has 256mb built in.
When viewing the parts on the Toshiba site, it is not showing the part available. Are these no longer available?
    Thanks,
    Manic

    Hello
Compatible PC2700 1024MB RAM has part number PA3313U-1M1G. you can add it to existing 256 MB.

  • Memory Upgrade at Satellite Pro A120-185 PSAC1E

The original installed memory of 1GB in my trusty old A120 is now becoming a bit of a limiting factor and I want to upgrade it to the full 4GB. I've checked on this site and it says that the memory runs at 533 MHz.
However looking at various other websites it suggests that certain varieties of this laptop can run memory running at 667 MHz - depending on its region!
Does anybody know which the correct speed is?
Obviously I'd like to put faster RAM in it when I upgrade it, but if it can't run it, I don't particularly want to waste money on memory I can't use.
    Thanks in advance.
    Tony

    Hi
    > However looking at various other websites it suggests that certain varieties of this laptop can run memory running at 667 MHz - depending on its region!
Everything depends on the FSB (front side bus)
If the FSB would allow the 667Mhz then the memory modules would run also on 667Mhz. If the FSB supports only 533Mhz then your modules will run max at 533Mhz even if the modules would support 667Mhz.
Simply said; the FSB can slow down the memory speed.

  • Cannot install windows on Satellite Pro A40

Hi I have read through all the posts and cant seem to find an answer.
    My problems is this ..
I have tried to install windows from a Full version and when I choose to install windows in a partition it fails. If I try to delete the partition it fails. If I use the recovery disks - Option 1 fails before it fully loads - looks like Gdisk? error and then goes in ghost. Option 2 Loads but when I go to install fails again.
I cannot find an option in the bios to prevent accessing the disk - like a boot virus protection. the lock key under the keyboard I have tried in both positions.
I have removed the battery to see if it is a power problem !
Tried using the recovery options in win xp - but cannot access the drive
The really strange thing is during the recovery disks option 2 - the drive size is bigger than the actual size by approx 1/3 ?
The system originally went down whilst connected to the internet - the only option I can thing of is a surge came down the line and damaged either the motherboard or the hardrive. As it has happened to a Desktop system - Blew 3 modems and an ups before we located the problem.
    HELP!!

    Hi,
did you already tried to check and format the drive with an external tool? I give you a suggestion: try the "ultimate boot cd" which has many tools also some tools for maintaining harddrives.
You can get the image here: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
Just burn it to a CD, boot it and choose the tool for your harddisk to check it and to repartition it.
    Hope it helps...

  • Error with Product Recovery. Now won't boot. Satellite Pro A40

    Hello,
I tried to use my product recovery cd to reinstall windows so that the computer would be back to an 'as new' state. However, when using disk one and at about 25% progress it crashed on me saying it couldn't read the disk. Now when i attempt to boot it says 'Please Insert System Disk and press any key' i do so but i just get the same message repeated. It does this is if i try to book from the hardrive or the cd.
Whats my next step, how can i get my computer back!?
    Cheers

Hmmm its not easy to say why you couldnt finish the installation. For me it looks like the Recovery CD would be faulty.
Anyway, the message says that no OS was found on the HDD and the notebook cannot boot up!
So what to do I think you should insert an original Windows XP CD and try to boot from the CD. The XP CD should format the HDD and should install the new OS.
Sorry, but I dont see other possibility.

  • Memory upgrade on a Satellite Pro 4270XDVD

    Hello,
I need some help. I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4270XDVD Notebook. I want to increase my memory as I have only the 64 megs that come with it. When I open the back of the computer to check the memory slots there are 2 empty ones. There is a Slot A and B. The problem is Slot A is broken. The 2 clips that hold the memory in are missing. Someone broke them off. Memory Slot B looks okay and I can put a stick of memory in it. The problem is my manual says not to use slot B if slot A is empty. Do you know why this is? Also is there any way of fixing the clips in Slot A without replacing the whole motherboard.
    Thanks for your help,
    Brad

    Hi Webmonkey
I think You can use slot B without any problem. If You have the memory expansion already then just try to insert it and check it out.
Normally on Toshiba notebooks there is no difference in priority between the memory slots.
Please note: I can not guarantee this for all models - but I say this from experience on some of them.
