Memory Problem Bridge CS4 under Win7

Hi!
I am running Bridge CS 4 on a brand new multimedia laptop (best ati graphic card, 4 gb ram, hundrets of gb free space) and one and the same bridge that ran well on my old xp laptop is starting to tremble of memory problems and pops up in German "is running out of memory, a restart is recommended". The cache preferences are all ok I think. Where else could I have a look at in order to delete this bug ?!
Thanks, Sebastian

Memory can also mean inadequate page file, memory problems, or cache.  Also, since it is a new computer don't rule out defective RAM.

  • No thumbnail rotation in Bridge CS4 under Win7/64bit

Bridge CS4 was working fine under Vista 64bit.  After updating to Windows 7 64bit thumbnail rotation does not work (neither using [] shortcuts, nor the tolbar arrows).  My computer has a GeForce 8600GT, to date in terms of updates.  I tried resetting the preferences, purging the cache etc to no avail.  Any suggestions?
    TIA

  • Metadate entry problem Bridge CS4

I trying to enter metadata to our pictures in Bridge CS4, but I am getting an error messagge instead... does anyone know why?

Best to check that.  I have seen too many posts where user finds out network administrator changed permission levels with no notifications.  May not be the issue, but one that makes the most sense.
Another option for "it worked yesterday but not now and I have changed nothing" is to reset preferences.  Hold down the Ctrl key (win) or option key (mac) and start Bridge.  You will get a reset window with 3 options.

  • Are there any problems with running PPro CS4 under WIN7...?

I've successfully created a dual boot of WIN XP Pro 64-bit and WIN 7 Professional 64-bit on my RAID10, 2-TB drive.
I've been running numerous basic programs successfully under WIN 7. It has been totally stable for over a month and therefore I am about to transition Production Premium CS4 over to the WIN 7 partition from WIN XP where I've been running it for the past two years.
I'm just wondering if there are any consistent problems that have surfaced with this new OS and CS4?
I've looked through the forums and don't see much, so I have high hopes. But in case I've missed something, what should I watch out for?
    Intel DX48BT2 mobo, 2.83GHz Q9550 Core2Quad, 8gb DDR3 @1333GHz, nVidia GTX260XXX, 2TB SATA RAID10 drives, 100GB SATA scratch drive, 2 x 1TB eSATA external RAID 10 drives (LaCie & JMicron w/controller card), LG SATA Blu-Ray Burner.
All drivers & updates are current.
    TIA,

Having learned that with ADOBE there is always some nightmare scenario, I am stopping in my tracks until I get more information.
I installed (non-trial) Production Premium CS4 in the Win7 partition without problem. Opened PrPro and exported media using Encore and my preferred codec. So far, so good.
As expected, I got the "Excuse the interruption" message telling me that there were already two copies with the same serial number running - I have one on my laptop and the other is, of course, in the Win XP partition on the same computer & hard drive as this new install.
I chose the "30 days to fix the issue" option.
This was so I could migrate my preferences, keyboard & other presets to the Win7 install and confirm their proper operation before activation.
PITA #1 - In XP, presets, prefs, etc., are located in "c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0\."
In Win7, they are located in "c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0\. This is a hidden folder, so you must go to Folder Options\View and check "Show Hidden Folders." I think this is now in Control Panel\Settings ( I got there through a Help link so I'm not sure, but it is not in the folder headers "Tools" anymore).
PITA #2 - After copying my PrPro presets, prefs, keyboard settings, etc., to the above location, I tried to open PrPro to confirm everything. This was about an hour after my previous session. I now no longer get the "30-day option!!!" Only "Activate" "Buy a License" or "Quit!"
PITA #3 - Since I don't know how Deactivation and Activation work, I am not about to go any further. Since both copies are on the same physical computer and hard drive, they obviously cannot both be online at the same time. I am concerned that whatever happens at Adobe's end of this will not see the deactivation or will not properly activate the new install and then I'll be left with nothing operational. If they cannot keep track of the start date of the new install and wiped out the 30-day test period in an hour, I do not have much confidence that the activation process with go so well. I think there are a limited number of activations as well, and I don't know what that applies to or how that works. I can see a scenario where I have to re-activate the Win XP partition to try and track down something and then get stuck there because I've used up my activations and can't re-activate the Win7 partition.
Anyone have any insights on any of this...???
    TIA,

  • Crashes with Premiere CS4 under Win7 32Bit

Hello, since a few months, I work with Premiere Pro CS4 4.2.1 on an ASUS based PC (Striker II Mainboard 4 Cores and 4 GB RAM). I also use an external Video RAID 0, connected via a eSata controller card. All application like Photoshop and Aftereffects run correctly and stable. When I cut videos on Premiere Pro in HD or SD, I often have undefined crashes with Premiere Pro CS4. Sometimes the application quits itself, sometimes I get no response from the GUI, or while Rendering a message appears that the is no enough systemspace. I have Terabytes Spaces and I can't imagine that this should be the problem. The mediacache is also routed to the video drive. Those crashes happens 7 times or more a day. I tried several codecs and it makes no different whether I use the connected Blackmagic Design Eclipse Interface or not.
With Driver Genius Pro I searched for the latest mainboard and graphic drivers, but without any changes in result. Do you have expirience with Win7 32bit and ASUS Striker II Maninboard. Is it a good idea to buy a new 64 Bit PC and an upgrade to CS5? May this solve hanging problems? What could be the reason for Instability?
    Thanks for answers.
    Sincerely
    André

    André,
I cannot address your MoBo question, but have some articles that might offer a few tips. The first ARTICLE is on setting up one's computer for a video editing session, one of the most intense operations that one can subject a computer to. For Win7, please look down to the last addenda, as there is a Win7 specific link to Black Viper's page.
The next ARTICLE is on finding clues as to what is happening, when the program crashes or hangs.
The last ARTICLE is a link to general troubleshooting tips for PrPro.
With Driver Genius Pro I searched for the latest mainboard and graphic drivers, but without any changes in result.
I'd take this one step further, regarding your video card's driver. Note the exact card that you have, its driver info, and go to the mfgr's. site. Find the very latest driver, and compare with what you have installed. Too many of those all-in-one updaters will stop far short of getting the very latest driver. I have seen systems, using similar, where the video driver was 3 years old, and showing as "most recent." For nVidia, or ATI/AMD, that will be ~ 30 driver versions behind.
Just some thoughts, and good luck,
    Hunt

  • Installation problem PS CS3 under Win7

I have a new PC and I installed Win 7 professional 64bit clean. I wanted to install PS CS3 there, which I had installed on the old PC with Win XP. The files are destracted, then setup.exe was started, for a flash you see the setup-dialog, no reaction anymore.
I installed it from the DVD, the download-file, with a new user account, with the deactivated user control, delete the temp files. The log-files have no "Return value 3", "ERROR", "FATAL". It ends with
    ---END-Updating Media Sources - END ---
    Logfile path changed to C:\Program Files(x86)\CommonFiles\Adobe\Installers\Adobe Photoshop CS4 10.0.log *
    Do you have a tip?

Right click on the .exe file and run as Admin (The software installer must be ran as Admin). Also turn off any anti-virus running. If you have adobe reader installed remove it before trying to install Photoshop. Leave UAC on (that is not the problem).
If it still won't install download and run the CS3 Cleaner then try re-installing.

I tryed to install the 30-days try-version, but every time I tryed I got an error!
    ERROR 1603.
I just tyed everithing:     - reinstalling.
                                       - uninstalling and removing all REG-entries
                                       - uninstalling and removing all REG-entries and change installation folder
                                       - uninstalling an run the removing scripts from adobe
    NOTHING WORKS!!!!!
Everytime I run the installation, it progress untill Photoshop-installation, and then abot it with ERROR 1603.
Hope someone of U have an idea, of what is going wrong.
    Thanks for help.

There is a folder on the desktop correct from the download? There should be a .exe file in the folder that has to be run as administrator.
But then I am confused about what you wrote.
    1. your making it sound like your trying to install the software and it failed the install.
    2. It was already installed once but then reinstalled it again (trying to remove registry entries). The re-install will not work and you will never be able to remove the registry entries because they are hidden. The trial is only for one install for a 30 period and it is tracked in the registry. Short of wiping your computer there is nothing you can do to re-install the trial.

  • Photoshop CS4 - File Type Associations and Bridge CS4

I have both Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop Elements 7.0 installed on my PC running Windows Vista Home Premium, I removed Photoshop CS3 after installing CS4. The issue I have is that if I look at file associations in Bridge CS4 under Preferences, none of the file types are set to Photoshop CS4, they are set to either Explorer or Photoshop Elements 7.0. The even stranger thing is also that if I try to change the associations, Photoshop CS4 is not even displayed as an option, as Photoshop Elements 7.0 always is, I have to browse in order to find it. This works, but I find it strange. Also within Windows none of the file associations are set to Photoshop CS4 after installation, I have to change them manually, again by browsing for it. I remember that in previous installs of Photoshop there was the possibility to change or use default file associtions, does CS4 have this? I guess this is not really a problem, but I find it somewhat strange that Elements 7.0 is always offered as an option but not CS4 and makes me feel it hasn't installed properly. Anyone have any ideas?

CCleaner did the trick for me too!
But I still suspect something about CS4 installer is not right.
Under CS3 I used Vista "open with">"choose program">"always use" to assiciate bridge CS3 with my canon camera raw files.. At that time it did work.
After installing CS4, I wanted to do the same with bridge CS4 but it didnt work. In the "choose program" vista menu, whatever I was doing, I couldnt select bridge CS4 it was always comming back to photoshop cs4 or bridge cs3.
After using CCleaner, I could re-associate the way I want right away.
So my word to photoshop's installer developper: please try to reproduce this issue, it should be easy, and make the installer avoid this.
    Thanks

  • Bridge CS4 memory problems

I am repeatedly receiving a "Bridge is running low on memory, it is recommended you restart Bridge" message when using the loop to view CR2 files from a Canon 5D Mk2. Bridge CS4 (3.0.0.464), MacBook Pro 2.5ghz duo, 4 GB ram, OSX 10.5.5. Anyone have any advice?

I still advocate Repairing Permissions (with Apple's Disk Utility) before AND after any system update or upgrade, as well as before AND after installing any software that requires an installer that asks for your password.
I have seen software installations go sour because the installer did not find everything as and where it should be.
I have also seen software installations go bad because the installer did not clean up after itself properly and did not leave everything as and where it should be.
This is just my own personal opinion and practice based on my own observations. Others may disagree and that's OK. I can only base my routines and my advice to others on my own experience and conclusion. I don't pretend to know why others believe otherwise.
Repairing Permissions after the fact (i. e. not immediately before and after an install) may NOT help. Try it anyway, though.

Additionally, if your machine does not run 24/7 so that it runs the daily, weekly and monthly Cron Scripts in the middle of the night as intended by Apple, run Cocktail (shareware) as well.
Cron Scripts are maintenance routines designed by Apple to run on a daily, weekly and monthly basis in the middle of the night.
If you don't run them, you WILL run into trouble, sooner rather than later.
Here's an excerpt from the Apple tech doc http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107388
Mac OS X performs background maintenance tasks at certain times if the computer is not in sleep mode. If your computer is shut down or in sleep at the designated times, the maintenance does not occur. In that case, you may want or need to run these manually.
Mac OS X periodically runs background tasks that, in part, remove system files that are no longer needed. This includes purging older information from log files or deleting certain temporary items. These tasks do not run if the computer is shut down or in sleep mode. If the tasks do not run, it is possible that certain log files (such as system.log) may become very large.
    Also, from: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106978
The disk activity generated by find is a normal part of file system maintenance, used for tasks such as removing invisible temporary files that are used by the system. It is scheduled to occur early in the morning at 03:15 everyday, 04:30 on Saturdays, and 05:30 on the first day of each month.
    NOTE:
There have been comments to the effect that Apple "fixed" this in 10.4.2 and later versions of the OS, but I have not been able to verify this to my satisfaction. The reference in the 10.4.2 release notes are far from explicit on this subject.

  • Problem with Bridge CS4 reading/editing XMP metadata added in Bridge CS6

Please excuse me if this is a dumb/obvious question. I did try searching the forums for similar problems and didn't find anything that seemed to speak to my issue.
I'm having a problem where Bridge CS4 won't read/edit xmp metadata (specifically, keywords and descriptions in the IPTC panel) that I have entered using CS6. it will read some files, not others. The files are all .mp4s. Of these files, I can read/edit IPTC panel metadata for some of them in Bridge CS4; I can add metadata for all of them in CS6. I see no particular pattern in these files to explain what is and isn't read/editable in CS4.
My question is whether this is a compatibility issue between different versions of CS (in this instance, CS4 and CS6). i know it's a tired refrain to blame software when it could easily be user error, in which case I'd be frankly delighted to know what i'm doing wrong. Please bear with me as I give a few more details.
I'm using macs. I've tried this on multiple systems - for instance, on a mac pro 3 which for some reason has both CS4 and CS6 installed, i can add and edit keywords using CS6, but not when using CS4. Again, in CS4, some .mp4 files read/edit, others do not.
Bridge CS4 blames the files and tells me that the selected file cannot store xmp metadata, and that the properties cannot be modified. To be specific, in the metadata panel it says "this property cannot be modified"; in the keyword panel, it says, "This file (zzz.mp4) cannot store xmp metadata. No changes will occur." This seems odd, because I'm able to add xmp metadata for the same files in CS6 on the same computer, and other computers. I know this problem would disappear if all our computers were using CS6 (or CC), but unfortunately that's not a possibility at the moment. Some of them only have CS4.
Computer details (not an exhaustive list, but two instances): mac pro 3.1 running snow leopard, 16GB memory; macbook pro 4.1 running snow leopard, 4GB memory; adobe bridge cs6 (5.0.0.399) and cs4 (3.0.0.464).
    Things I have tried:
Permissions - the files are set to read/write for everyone. Given that I can add/edit metadata in CS6, it doesn't seem to be a permission issue.
Purging the cache - other users seem to have had problems adding metadata in Bridge CS4 where purging the cache for affected files solved the problem. Didn't work in this instance.
Upgrading all affected computers to CS6/CC is beyond my control. I need to figure out why CS4 won't let me read/add/edit xmp metadata, if only for the sake of understanding the broader implications for interoperability.
Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    adobe bridge cs6 (5.0.0.399) and cs4 (3.0.0.464).
Without having experience with mp4 files and metadata my observation is that you certainly have not updated Bridge CS6 ( should be 5.0.2.4) and I believe also not the latest version of CS4, can't imaging this also stayed at .0.0 so first try to update both.
And if CS4 can read the data of some files it should be capable of reading them all. Be sure to have the files completely cached first, can take a while.
Other things to try in CS4 is refresh preferences (hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset prefs).
And also check for hidden cache files using menu view/show hidden files. Sometimes those cache files can be troublesome between versions.
If purge cache did not work and reset prefs also failed consider to also delete Bridge plist file and Bridge cache file manual (from user library)

  • Problems with Bridge CS4.

    Dear members:
Since my last disappointing experiences with Bridge I decided I would wait until CS4 had been out for a while and Adobe had the chance to clean all the bugs and problems with the first releases. I am now beginning to use the CS Premium suite and Bridge is by far the one application I used the most to browse my large library of photos.
In trying to use for the past few days I have run into numerous problems. Some of them are:
    1. When I first launch the application I get an error message stating the following:
" Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. Please try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences to correct the situation. "
    2. While building previews for a folder with approximately 200 images Bridge displayed a message stating the it was low on memory and suggesting I should restart it. This has happened to other folders and not just this one, some with more and some with less images. I am sure the issue has nothing to do with memory as I have always used Bridge CS3 with these folders without any such problems.
    3. Despite the fact that all my image folders contain thumbnails and previews previously created by CS3 the new Bridge CS4 treats them as if they contained nothing. The application starts the whole process all over again and takes longer than CS3 did to perform the same task.
My computer is a Powermac G5 dual 2.0 GHz with 4.5 GB RAM and two internal 1.5 GB HD. Considering this kind of internal RAM I don't think memory should be an issue.
I ran the update tool but couldn't find any newer version of Bridge CS4. To the best of my knowledge I am running the latest versions of all applications in the CS4 Premium suite
Some of the questions I have are:
    1. Can't CS4 use the thumbnails and previews that were previously built by Bridge CS3 ? Will the application have to start this whole process all over again for every single folder I have ?
    2. Why all these error messages and bugs ?
    3. Is CS4 really slower than CS3 ? So far this has been my experience.
    4. Considering at least one bug remains from the previous CS3 version (the little triangles that appear next to folders even when there are no subdirectories) how many problems should I expect to find with this new version ?
My apologies for all the questions above but the answers are important as I am now beginning to use the application for critical tasks.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Joseph

There appears to be many problems in all versions of Adobe Creative Suite with Bridge.
I have a few post currently and even the employees of Adobe seem very uninterested in helping at all. They sure offer info on posting correct data and correct forum but little else to help resolve our problems.
The majority of problems you  are incurring I have had and 99% were cured within the "Security>User" settings. Check similiar posts that are listed to the right of your post.
The final problem of "Not enough memory" has still not been resolved. Phone Tech support is no longer available free and I even paid for 1 session, spent 3.5 hours with the Tech and problem was "escalated"....that was in August 2010!!
    Good luck!

  • Canon G15 - problem seeing correct Exposure Mode when browsing in Bridge CS4

    I have PSE8 & Bridge CS4.
In Bridge Preferences I have ticked the box Exposure Mode under Camera Data(EXIF), but regardless of which Mode I actually shoot i.e Auto, P,Tv,Av etc, the indication in Bridge when browsing the photos always shows the Exposure Mode as Auto with the exception of when shooting in Manual Mode when it is shown correctly as Manual.
I would be grateful for any assistance in enabling the correct display of Exposure Mode when browsing in Bridge.
    My Mac OS is 10.6.8.

    Dear Curt,
yes, updated to latest versions (11.0.1).
I use the camera for uploading already 5 years (with all previous Canon camera's also) without any problem.
The files are not visible as a thumbnail in explorer because they are RAW format and windows does not support that format.
For that reason I check the files with Canon software first, and then they show correct.
If I check first with Canon software the files open correct without problems.
After that I open them with Photoshop and then a problem occurs.
So I am convinced that it is a software problem with the Adobe package.
I just hope that the original files are not corrupted.
I am afraid they are because after opening with the software from Adobe they also open corrupt with Cannon software (this means that Adobe does something with the file).
It is very strange to me.

  • Elements 8.0 and Adobe Bridge CS4 problem

I have two problems that appeared in Elemens 8.0 and Adobe Brigde CS4 recently.  I'm using the Mac version and a Macbook Pro (4 months old).
I don't really know where to address the problem, but I hope someone in this forum would be able to advice me.
    Problem 1
When I browse a RAW-file in Bridge and click the photo to view a 100% zoom and then go back to a normal view, after a few seconds the photo turns alot darker.  I've got alot of macro photos of flower and they really loose structure in this process and I would say they get damaged.
On the attached file the left photo is the photo I've viewed and closed and the right one is the original file.  Does anyone have an explanation to this problem?  I do like to review my files and do a 100% zoom before I choose the best one, but this is not possible in Bridge due to this problem.
    Problem 2
After postprocessing my photos in Elements some of them cannot be viewed through Brigde anymore, they get sort of unclear and some show pixels.  If I use Finder or other programmes to view the files they look perfectly allright. See examples below, the left one is a screendump from Bridge and the second one is the processed file.

I think this solved the problem, at least some of it.
I deleted the bridge plist file and also ran an update of Bridge CS4.  I wasn't sure how to update ACR in bridge, so I didn't do that.
But when I start Bridge now, only some of the files changes color slightly in the thumbnails view.  The zoom (loading 100%) also looks different, it zoomed to 800% earlier even though it said 100%, it sort of never ended.
Thank you Barbara, I'm ever so grateful.  Now I know where to go if I have more problems

  • Problem with JPGs Downlaoded with Nikon Transfer - Can't Apply Develop Settings in Bridge CS4 and ACR 5.3 Settings Don't Stick

I have found what I believe is a "problem" with JPGs downloaded using Nikon Transfer (ver 1.4.1) and processing same in Adobe Bridge CS4 (Develop Settings) and/or Adobe Camera Raw 5.3 (Photoshop CS4 and Elements 6 as hosts).
Anyone using these programs in their workflow?
The problem, quite simply, is that neither ACR settings (nor Bridge CS4 Develop Settings) "stick" when applied to JPGs that have been downloaded via Nikon Transfer ver 1.4.1.
The same images from the same cameras (D300 and D90), downloaded moments later using Nikon's predecessor software PictureProject work just fine in both Bridge and ACR.  Develop Settings appled in Bridge immediately are seen, and JPGs opened in ACR, and settings applied, then "Done" immediately stick and are reflected in Bridge.
If someone else is processing their JPGs in this manner, please let me know, as I have reported the problem to both Nikon and Adobe, and although I have tested it on two different cameras and two differnt laptops, I would like to get an impartial result as well.
One other test, the problem does not seem to affect Nikon's RAW (NEF) format files downloaded from a D2x using Nikon Transfer.  More/different test are forthcoming.
    Thanks

Can't say one way or another on that statement about using manufacturers' software.  Since Adobe has to interpret each camera models' RAW format having the latest ACR seems to be the best option.  But if the manufacturers' software is more convenient, and you get the same results then use it.  But it does appear you are not getting what you want, so suggest you try a duplicate test run with images straight from the card reader to Bridge and see if you still have same problems.
I do know it is widely recommended that using a quality card reader gives you more reliable data than getting the pictures straight from the camera.  Does not seem intuitive, but that has been experience of many.

  • Bridge CS4 edit history problem with OS change from XP to 7

I've changed my OS from XP to 7.  After reinstalling software, Bridge CS4 no longer keeps my editing steps in the "edit history" metadata.  The only steps recorded are that I've  saved a file.  I have the edit history box marked in preferences in both Bridge and PS, and have tried changing the metadata section in Preferences to session only, concise, and detailed.  None of those choices make a difference.  Any suggestions on how to get my edit history steps back in the metadata of Bridge?  I use the edit history frequently!  Thanks in advance!
