Memory problem in Safari and IE

On some Internet pages (e.g. http://www.imx.nl/photosite/leica/M8_2/t007.html), Safari displays only partial images stretched to fill space allotted. On same pages, Internet Explorer displays only a portion of each image and reports that it can't display the image due to low system memory.
Trying to download an image in IE results the same small top part plus colored areas below.
I have 1 GB RAM; my free disk space is 6.24 GB. I've forced auto maintenance and purged browser caches, don't know what to do next.
Any idea what my problem might be?
Many thanks!

What version of Safari do you have? The link you provided looks OK with Safari 2.0.4 under OS X 10.4.8; it also looks OK in Firefox 1.5.0.9
Microsoft dropped any pretense of supporting Internet Explorer back around the time of OS X 10.1.5 and I wouldn't expect it to work well with any websites. If some of the sites you visit require IE, try enabling Safari's Debug menu and set the User Agent to be IE (try the MSIE 6 for Windows agent). To enable Safari’s Debug Menu, open Applications> Utilities> Terminal when Safari is closed and enter:
defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeDebugMenu 1
Restart Safari to see the Debug Menu.

My wife has been having problems with Safari, and many third party software and malware programs infecting her Mac Book Pro. I have tried to reset Safari but it keeps coming back, taking over Safari, changing defaults, start pages, and search engines, Etc.
Is it safe to use programs like MacKeeper, who keeps send my wife's computer message and alerts, or should I just wipe the drive and start over?

  • Problems with Safari and Firefox (HTTP?)

Problems with Safari and Firefox (HTTP?)
    On a laptop G4, 10.5.8 and Safari 5.02 I experience the following:
On the account of my oldest daughter everything works fine, i.e. wireless internet works and no problems with mail or safari.
On the same laptop, on the account of my other daughter, the wireless is OK, she can mail etc. But safari nor firefox works. It says: can’t find server (whatever site) and in the activity window it looks if safari tries to open files (in the safari preferences-folder) in stead of http. Same applies to Firefox, so maybe it has more to do with HTTP in general?
What goes wrong? What to do? I tried the following on the host terminal (tips from Apple)
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
    and
    defaults delete com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled
    but that did not help,
    Nanne

I'm still wondering why it happens now at this moment in time...
PC does seem to be a bit odd & inconsistent, the few times I've tested with it, at least so far as we content filtering goes; and if I remember rightly, you're not the first to report previously ok settings suddenly preventing some or all internet until pc is switched off altogether.
    It may work when re-enabled

  • Problem with safari and wallpaper etc

I have a problem with safari and dashboard wallpaper... After rebot i loose history and topsites from safari. My deskboard wallpaper swiched back to this http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs28/f/2008/097/f/8/MacbookPro_Wallpaper_by_desingsblp.jpg
Whats is wrong with my mac?

    HI and welcome...
Remove that particular desktop wallpaper. That's probably what's causing your to lose History and TopSites.
Open a Finder window. Now open the Library folder then the Safari folder. See if that wallpaper is hiding in the Safari folder. Mine does that also. If it's there, move it to the Trash but don't empty the Trash.
Quit Safari (Command + Q) Now relaunch Safari. If History and TopSites are ok, then empty the Trash. It's that image causing the problem.

In this code i m facing memory problem.
It is not refreshing the memory every time.
So plz give me proper solution.
    Its urgent.
    Thanks
    Ranveer

    Hi,
I suppose you are trying to store some particular value in memory in one program and then retieve it in another.
If so try using EXPORT data TO MEMORY ID 'ZC1'. and IMPORT data FROM MEMORY ID 'ZC1'.
To use SET PARAMETER/GET PARAMETER the specified parameter name should be in table TPARA. Which I don't think is there in your case.
    Sample Code :
Data declarations for the function codes to be transferred
    DATA : v_first  TYPE syucomm,
           v_second TYPE syucomm.
    CONSTANTS : c_memid TYPE char10 VALUE 'ZCCBPR1'.
Move the function codes to the program varaibles
      v_first  = gv_bdt_fcode.
      v_second = sy-ucomm.
Export the function codes to Memory ID
    EXPORT v_first
v_second TO MEMORY ID c_memid.        "ZCCBPR1  --- Here you are sending the values to memory
    Then retrieve it.
Retrieve the function codes from the Memory ID
      IMPORT v_first  TO v_fcode_1
             v_second TO v_fcode_2
      FROM MEMORY ID c_memid.                                   "ZCCBPR1
      FREE MEMORY ID c_memid.                                   "ZCCBPR1
After reading the values from memory ID free them your problem should be solved.
    Thanks

  • Problem with Safari and Flash

    Hi guys,
i've a macbook pro 15' top-2010  with osx 10.7 Lion & Adobe Flash Player 11.0.1.98 (beta) and i've this problem (with safari, firefox and chrome):
    - when i go in a facebook game (cityville, poker, or other flash games) my cpu go at over 100% (also 150%) usage, the temperature become very very high and the fans go to 4500rpm.
in the other sites (youtube, normal flash site,...) i haven't problem.
note that all the browser are update at the last stable version. i've also tried to install the last stable version of flash (10.3.183.5) but nothing.
in the console, when i'm in a facebook game, i see (repeated many times):
    - kernel: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero
    - kernel: nstat_lookup_entry failed: 2
    what can I do?
    solutions?
    thanks

i done this, but the problem remains.
I have to wait for updates (for lion and for adobe flash)

  • Problem w safari and hp laserjet printer

Thanks for any help. My computer cannot find the hp laserjet 4050tn in printer preferences. It goes through a wireless router but I am not using wireless--using ethernet instead. My computer can find other computers on my LAN.
While in Safari, if I try to print a PFD to save to my desktop, Safari crashes every time. If I am on any website to purchase something, and try to print the order number to save on the very last step of the ordering, everything crashes, the order doesn't go through.
How are Safari and the printing problems connected?

    Hi,
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist to the trash.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.
Restart your PBook. Launch Safari and try printing a PDF.
If that didn't help, check your printer manufacture website for updates for the printer drivers (software).

  • Color shift problem in Safari and Preview

I have recently had a color shift in Safari and in Preview.  My monitor is color profiled (using eye-one) and images opened in Aperture, Bridge, Photoshop and the Color Management app look just fine.  However, images on the web-browser (Safari) and in Preview show a definite and disagreeable increase in saturation, particularly in the red-orange range. Is there a suggestion on how to deal with this problem?
    Thanks for the help.

This could be part of the problem >  Known Issues | Adobe products on Mac OS 10.7 Lion
You can have Safari set to open PDF files in Preview.
Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder then click Get Info.
In the Get Info panel click: Open with
    Select Preview
    Click: Change all

  • CPU hog, faults, and memory problems in safari - solutions? or opera?

since recently (a week or two ago i think?) safari is showing the following behaviour:
i start the computer. start safari. reopen all windows from last session. use it normally for a while (activity monitor shows safari using 2 to 5% cpu with spikes to 15 or 20%). after some time (an hour, several hours, a day) the computer gets hot: activity monitor shows safari using between 40 and 115% cpu, never less. inspecting the process reveals that safari is producing massive amounts of faults (as of now 32 million and rising at over 10'000 per second. it also shows the shared memory size or the virtual private memory (one of the two, it varies) peaking at 16 TB (yes, Terabytes; 16.777 to be more precise) for a second (the time between two refreshes of the inspector window). this last behaviour is intermittent but happens during this sort of event.
if i quit and restart safari the problem immediately recurs, in contrast if i restart the computer i can use safari normally for a few hours before it recurs.
i have seen posts here blaming this sort of behaviour on flash, but this doesn't seem to be an adequate explanation to me as i'm able to use safari for some time before the issue occurs, and definitely visit pages with flash during that time.
another post recommended to empty cache, which didn't solve the issue.
is there a solution for this? if there's no solution i'd be willing to switch browser, but safari is very much the one i prefer. i'd even go as far as to re-install my whole system if necessary, but would prefer a less radical solution which allows me to continue using safari.

Hey, man, it's not just you, and it's not just your version. I have a similar configuration (albeit 2 GB RAM) and I have upgraded to the latest version of Safari.
By doing a little troubleshooting I've determined that Flash actually is the problem. It seems to get the most CPU when watching FLV videos, such as those on youtube. My theory is that the algorithm that runs the decoding on the videos is very, very complex, as it allows high-quality video over a standard broadband (ours is 3 Gbps) connection.
As such, this has the implication of being processor intensive as well as HDD intensive caching. My MBP reached 80 Celsius at one point, forcing me to quit most programs. After quitting my MBP cooled down to its usual 55 Celsius (still a bit warm I know, but it probably has more to do with the fact that it's on my lap now).
I do not believe that Safari is at fault, nor do I believe that your Mac is at fault. Mine does not get hot even during extensive Photoshoping or Dreamweaving or even XCoding but YouTubing gets it very hot. Thus, if you've anyone to blame it's Adobe. (sorta... just for Flash)
In terms of solutions however I am afraid I must leave you somewhat in the dark unless you want to quit watching Flash vid's. If you should write to anyone, write to Adobe because chances are good that some other users may be experiencing the same problems.
    Hope that this was helpful.
P.S. Sucpicious confirmed. Firefox watching Flash vids also causes a lot of CPU percentage to be used and the cpu temperature to raise a good number of degrees. So... you're pretty much out of luck no matter what browser you use until Adobe fixes FLV problems. Sorry

So I went here and tried finding the right version of Safari to reinstall, per the window's advice. Loaded 5.1.9. Still nothing. So why did the "security upgrade" eliminate something that, only an hour prior to this disaster, was working just fine thank you.

Hi Martin. I seem to have the same problem. And the same thing happened to me after I updated. Have you made any progress on this issue since you posted to this forum six months ago? Nobody seemed to have responded to your question.

  • ITunes 11.0.3 causing major problems with Safari and Mail.

I have a 2007 aluminum iMac with 4GB of Crucial RAM running 10.8.3, now 10.8.4.  Got an iTunes update to 11.0.3 a few weeks ago.  Since then, iTunes, Mail, and Safari can't be open at same time or iMac slows to a crawl.  10.8.4 update did not fix this.  I've run the Apple hardware checking program and all checks out fine.  I've run Clean My Mac 2.0, which didn't help at all.  I installed a widget to monitor internal temperatures, and they are not too high.  I've tried a Time Machine restore to May 14th, but it didn't seem to restore the old version of iTunes, but rather rolled back the desktop.  Please help!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Problem with Safari and Flash Player

Hi, I've done a quick search and can't find an answer, however since updating from Lion to Mountain Lion I've had problems with my (2011) Macbook Pro whilst in Safari, following a Genuis bar visit last week we managed to narrow it down to a flash player problem and uninstalled and reinstalled flash was told that should the problems persist (we couldn't get the computer to repeat it's beahviour in store) then to re-install OSX, now I've done this but still getting the same problem, screen not refreashing so parts of previous page or pop still showing over top of new page and Computer getting VERY hot (to the point of almost burning. Now I've had a look on Adobe website and they recommend running 10.3 rather than 11.4 and I managed to download it from them however Safari blocks it as it's out of date, also on my iMac running Mountain Lion Flash appears to be blocking internet access, internet fails when attempting to use a website that needs flash, but works fine when not using it.  Anyone got any ideas on a work around?

    Try this...
    Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab. Click: Delete All
    Relaunch Safari.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
Select:  Clear History  (also empties the cache)
Deselect the remaining boxes then click Reset.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a Flash based video.

  • Problem with Safari and Java

    Hi there,
I need help with the above mentioned problem. At first, here is my configuration:
iMac G5 17", Mac OS X 10.3.9, QuickTime 7.0.1 PRO, Safari 1.3 (v312), Java - here is the 'answer of the Terminal app - java version "1.4.2_05"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_05-141.4)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-38, mixed mode).
My problem is, that on some sites (e.g. http://home.eduhi.at/member/gru/) I see those coffee cups with the red exclamation marks instead of some java media content.
On the site http://www.bodo.com/javame.htm I could verify that Safari is able to handle JavaScript, but in the line for Java Applets I again see this small coffee cup with red exclamation mark.
In the Safari preferences i have all Java check-boxes marked.
Please, can anyone help me, because I hate it to be forced to use this @&%§# IE from M$ all the time I want to go to sites with Java Applets.

Well... good; when we help each other here, we can't
assume that any step has been taken, unless it's been
specifically identified. I'm sure that makes it all
the more frustrating, since you are a very experienced
    user.
    Now, then:
-- since you have reinstalled the Java Update; and
-- if you open your Help >> Installed Plug-ins, and
scroll down the list and find these three items:
    Java Plug-in for Cocoa -- Java 1.4.2 "JavaPluginCocoa.bundle"
Java Plug-in (CFM) -- Java 1.3.1 "Java Applet Plugin Enabler"
    Java Plug-in "Java Applet.plugin"
-- and if Enable Java and Enable JavaScript are checked in:
Safari >> Preferences >> Security, as you say they are; and
-- if Enable Plug-ins is checked in the same section,
as you say it is; and
-- you have repaired permissions, as you say you have; and
-- you have emptied your Cache; and
-- your Icons folder ({YOU}/Library/Safari/Icons) has been
trashed if it is over 750 KB; and
-- you have Quit, then relaunched Safari after all this,
as you say you have; and
    -- your {YOU}/Library/Caches and {YOU}/Library/Caches/Safari
folders have read and write permissions
...then, I'm currently at a loss as to what else to suggest.

  • Problem with Safari and Firefox opening some websites

In Firefox I have recently been getting:
    THE CONNECTION IS RESET
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.
    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.
    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web
    Also a message in Safari:
"Safari can’t open the page because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection, which sometimes occurs when the server is busy. You might be able to open the page later."
It is only occurring with a few sites, but occurs on the same websites in both browsers.
I'm using an iMac, running OSX 10.4.11 and using Airport to connect to a Netgear wireless router.
I've emptied cashes, cleaned cookies, reset browsers etc, I've run MacScan, but the problem persists.
Having already done some on-line searches I have seen people talk about proxies, DNS and possible malware (though usually referring solutions to PC's.
Any one know of a fix for this?

    Hi,
Make sure your are running the latest version of Safari. From the Safari Menu Bar click: About Safari
The version number will be displayed there. You need to be using 4.0.4 If Safari needs updating go to your Apple Menu then click Software Updates.
Safari 4.0.4 requires the 2009-001 Security Update. Open System Preferences/Software Updates - Installed Updates. If that update is not listed go here.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/SecurityUpdate_2009_001__Tiger_PPC
Also, open System Preferences/Network. Select the tab. Make sure none of the boxes are
checked under: Select a proxy server to configure
Try disconnecting the router from it's power source for 5 minutes, reconnect the router and
    restart your Mac.
