Memory problems - 2GB Nano

I have a 2gb nano... i am trying to download songs onto it but can only get 123 on there. When i plug the ipod into the computer it says used 1.30 gb - free 541.1mb. The ipod has no music or photos on it. Can someone point me in the direction of solving the problem? I understood that a 2gb ipod held atleast 500 songs?!

What format are the songs you have imported? The advertised song capacity of iPod is based on 4 minute songs encoded in AAC format at a bit rate of 128 kbps. Longer songs and songs encoded at a higher bitrate or in uncompressed formats take up more space. If you have imported larger files then that's why you are getting so few on. Go to iTunes and right click on one of your songs, choose Get Info>Summary and look at "Kind" to see what format you are using: iTunes: About import settings and hard disk space
If you have imported uncompressed files they can be converted in iTunes, have a read of these articles:

  • Only 20 songs on 2GB Nano.  don't understand

    Hello!
I am not a computer savvy person by any stretch. Unfortunately, my ipod has started to hate me, and thus stop working properly.
I got it as a Christmas gift in December of 2005. It is a 2GB Nano..
I noticed while the months were passing, I was able to upload fewer and fewer songs. Currently, I'm only able to upload about 20 before the ipoos memory is full.
Some friends (who don't have ipods) suggested that I download some firmware software. I had no idea what that even meant; so I typed it into a google search, and ended up with the newest available version of itunes.
My problem still has not been fixed and I have no idea what to do!
If someone could please help me out that would be utterly fantastic.

Bear in mind that Apple quotes the number of songs you are able to store on any iPod by using the AAC format at a bitrate setting of 128kbps and for a 4 minute song. Any variation on these settings/timings will vary the amount of songs you are able to store on your iPod.
You need to look in iTunes under edit/preferences/advanced/importing. What does it say in settings and import using? You may have the import settings and bitrate set wrong. You need to compress your music using either mp3 or aac. If you see AIFF, WAV or Apple Lossless then those formats are going to take way more space than mp3 or aac, especially the first 2 which are raw uncompressed formats.

  • R9.2.0 on RH 7.3: Memory problem: Linux or the Installer?.

Having the following problem. Perhaps someone had the same. In that case, please help.
I have P4 with 1GB of RAM and 2GB of SWAP. No disk space problem. No shared memory problem. I installed the Client of Oracle9i (9.2R2) on redhat 7.3 (standard installation as Server). I have already noted here that with the Oracle installer running, the system uses almost all the RAM available (99.5% of the total), but at least it can conclude the installation. However it never uses the SWAP (100% free).
When tried to install the Database (enterprise or standard), the installation continues as long as there is RAM available. When reached 99.6% of the total used, it does not give any response (it hangs at 41% of the installation). Even here no SWAP portion is used.
Is there a problem of the kernel dispached with Rh7.3 in using the swap? does Oracle Installer really needs so much RAM? or am I missing something in the installation process of the Database? I am using jdk-1.3.1_04 downloaded from the sun website.
I would appreciate if you cc your response also to [email protected] I may have problem to access the Forum in the coming two days.
    Thank you in advance.
    Jama Musse Jama.

Check the Support Matrix (if you can find it) and it will tell you that Redhat and most Linux are not supported. I bought Redhat 7.3 Professional , a WinBook with lots of disk and speed and tried to get 9.2 to run on it. no way. It's not certified so it's not supported. Even though I explained that what I was trying to do was get rid of Windows XP and move to RedHat 7.3 and would they send me Oracle 9.2 when it was available. I got the CDs 3 days later. but it won't work. Now I am left with the choise of buying the 9AS package or going backt to XP.
I do not thing that Oracle is living up to the spirit of LINUX. They say Linux but they mean a very specific subset. Who do they think they are, Bill Gates?

  • My new iPhone 5 won't connect to iTunes, and when I connect to my computer it comes up as a usb storage device, also in the phone itself under usage it shows internal memory of 2gb and sd card 64 gb, is this an original iPhone or have I been sold a copy

My new iphone 5 can not connect to itunes, it comes up as a usb storage device when I plug it in, also in the phone under settings/usage it shows internal memory of 2gb and SD card of 64gb, I cannot get it to connect to itunes at all so cannot sync etc, is this a genuine Iphone or a copy. I have owned 4 iphones and never had a problem with connecting to iphones and restoreing to a backup.

    According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_5
the iPhone5 has 1GB of RAM, and internal storage of 16, 32, or 64GB.
It does not use SD cards.
Fake iphones are really Android phones using the skin of iOS6.
Click on the App Store icon. If it takes you to Apple's App Store, then it's a real iPhone.
But if you are directed to Google Play, then I'm afraid you've gotten a copy.

  • ODBC Linux Memory Problem

    Hi,
I seem to have a big problem with an application I've made.
The application connects to a Oracle Database, fills the database with arround 1GB of information. Once the database is filled my application launches a series of queries to test performance.
My problem is when working with Oracle 11 in Linux (Fedora and Oracle Enterprise Linux). Apparently I can't seem to get past the database filling process. The free memory vanishes quite fast, eaten up between my application proces' and Oracle's. Now, I know the problem is not with my application because the same code works perfectly in the following databases:
    Windows:
    - Oracle 10R2
    - Oracle 11g
    - PostgreSQL 8.3
    - MySQL 5.1
    - MySQL 6-alpha
    - SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
    Linux:
    - PostgreSQL 8.3
    - MySQL 5.1
    - MySQL 6-alpha
My application actually connects to the database and starts executing the inserts successfully. It's just that at some point the memory gets filled up, pretty quickly actually. I've watched the through vmstat. The first one to fall is the free memory, then follows the cache memory. And then it starts filling up swap. When it reaches to 2GB of used swap the behavior differs with the Linux Distribution: Fedora Core 8 crashes horribly, in Oracle Enterprise Linux at some point my application's process goes to "sleep" and I seem to still be able to do other things.
To connect to the database I use the [OTLv4 library|otl.sourceforge.net]. One might think that my problem is with OTL, but I use the same OTL in all those cases, and unless it's an issue between Oracle in Linux and OTL I don't think it's an OTL issue.
Can anyone push me in some direction ?
    Thanks.

Well, you seem to have a memory leak in your application, assuming nothing else is running. Check out the top(1) program; you can get it to sort the displayed processes according to how much %MEM (percent of memory) they are using. First entry is the culprit.
The best way I've found to locate a memory leak is to run your program using valgrind(1). This tool runs your application in a virtual CPU built in to valgrind(1). It can detect tons of different memory usage issues, from using an un-initialized variable to leaked memory.
Of course, you may not have a memory problem. Does you program generate huge bursts of I/O or is the I/O more evenly paced? Kernel I/O backlog can consume memory quickly. While your application is running, open two more windows. In one, run the command:
    $ watch -n3 -d cat /proc/meminfo
    and in the other:
    $ watch -n3 -d cat /proc/slabinfo
Try to figure out what memory usage is steadily increasing; that can tell us if the app is leaking or the I/O channels just can't keep up.
Hope this gives you some ideas about how to proceed.

  • Why does my 2gb Nano only have 1.8gb???????

I've just bought my 2gb nano and before i even transfered any songs or photos or anything on it, i checked the memory and it says its capacity is 1.8gb!!!! is this normal? If not is there any way of emailing this website coz i cant find one. is it is normal then surely this is false advertising!!!!
    ipod nano   Windows XP   2gb

Yeah, I didn't understand this either at first but my brother explained it to me.
2GB is just the advertised capacity (It's the same with any harddrive). The advertised 2GB is equal to 2,000MB, while when you check it on the computer, the computer says that one GB is 1,024MB, this'd be the difference. I have a 160GB harddrive, it says that it's actually only got about 144GB. It's universal!
I hope this is understandable, if you don't understand anything just reply!

  • Sound Problem Plus Memory Problem

I've also posted this same issue at the EVGA website with no help what so ever yet. Also if it's ok I'm having the above mentioned memory problem that it probable not related but if anyone does have good input I would love to hear. Hope this doesn't break any rules, didn't see anything in the listed rules thread. So here it goes.
Ok I'm having a few minor but very perplexing and annoying problems. I have recently built a new rig to include the following.
Windows 7 64 bit Home Edition
    EVGA P55 FTW Intel P55 Socket LGA56
    Intel Core i5-750 2.66Ghz 8M LGA56 CPU
    Corsair Dominator 4GB DDR3 PC2800 (2 x 2 GB sticks)
    Ultra LSP750 750w Power Supply
Seagate TB Serial ATA HD 7200/32MB
Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower Black Case
Galaxy GeForce GTS 250 52MB PCIe x2 (SLI Setup)
BFG - NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT GB GDDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card (Physx Setup)
    PROBLEM ONE:
This one I had a lot less that I was able to actually try because it just confused the crap out of me. So I started by going to test my sound. I'm running an optical cable from the on board sound port to back of my sony surround sound system. I get sound from my left and right channel but nothing from the center, rears or sub. So figure no biggie just need to change the configuration from 2 speaker stereo to 5. surround sound. Guess what... the option isn't there? WTF? A sound card with an optical port with no 5. support? So went online found the drivers for the sound on the mother board and tried reinstalling thinking maybe somthing was wrong with the drivers on the CD. Well it still didn't work. So I figured what ever, I got an external sound card that I know works with Windows 7 since it was on other desktop and hooked it up. Its a Creative - Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5. External USB Sound Card. Well it installs fine and I go to test it. Yep you guessed it! Still only sound from the left channel and the right channel with no option for surround sound. So I was able to find updated drivers for that and ran em. Well now I have an option for Surround sound with side speakers only no rear. Oh but it doesn't really matter because the left and right channel are still the only ones able to produce sound. And yes the speakers work I turned on my X-Box 360 hooked up to the same speakers and LCD tv and played COD4 with full sound working fine. So something else has to be happening I just have no idea.
    PROBLEM TWO:
The second problem was with the memory. Everything booted fine but it initial only detected 2 GB. By the way I had them installed in slots and 3. So I shut down and popped em out checked the copper connectors everything looked fine and reseated the chi
    ps.
This time during the boot up I checked the BIOS. It saw all 4 GBs of memory. Continued into Windows. Windows now saw all 4 but only .99 GB was available. Now the only other time I've seen anything like this was with on board video sharing the memory, and even then it wasn't half of the systems total memory. I then tried shutting down and putting the chips in 2 and 4 just see what would happen. Well I got an EA post error on the LED, couldn't even boot. So I figured o'well power down completely and tried to run the memory in 2 and 3 to run it out of dual channel. I was able to boot but still had the same issue. .99 GB available and still saw all 4. At this point it was just getting silly so I figured ok I'll download the new BIOS with my laptop, burned it to a CD. Booted the desktop and ran the BIOS flash. Update seemed work fine, honestly the BIOS didn't look much different and I didn't take note of the previous version before I did it so I can only assume it worked. However it did not fix my problem. So I'm still stuck at windows seeing 4 GB of memory with only .99 available.
Anyway... I'll keep trying to get this working and hunting around online, but I'm really hoping you all have some ideas. I'll be trying to call EVGA today for some help too and possibly Corsair. Thanks in advance for the help!

    Hello,
cannot help with the sound problem.
For memory, I've got almost the same thing but with 4 sticks of 2gb and only 2 detected on an ASUS P7P55D deluxe.
Bios was my issue but I needed to do this (but with pairs of sticks instead of sticks) after the bios update to finally get my 8gb under windows:
Make a clear cmos. Then boot the computer with only one stick of ram in the port .
If everything is fine, turn off and add the other port of the same color for dual channel.
If it does not boot with the 2 sticks in the port of the good color, try to switch ports again. Maybe one stick is dead?

  • New 2GB Nano does not display videos menu!

Okay, this is the second iPod Nano that I have had in a month. The first one had a defective drive. Now the new one does not show a menu option for videos! I bought the Nano so that I could download videos from the iTunes store. I can download music and audiobooks without any problem, but NOT videos. What to do? Should I take it back yet again?

    Can I be your friend?
    Good luck!

What do you want with a 2GB Nano that doesn't play video??? The friend I have in mind is a huge country music fan (which is cool) and he won't care about not being able to watch stuff...

  • Computer freeze / Memory problem?

    Hi,
I assembled my new PC approx. 1 month ago (full spec attached at the bottom of the message).
Since then I'm having a lot of freezes (freeze, not BSOD). I tried using several OS versions with no luck, so I though it's a memory problem.
Testing the memory, each dimm by itself, with memtest86+ succeeded. I even tried to check each of the memory banks and the test still succeeded.
When testing with more than one dimm (both with single-channel and dual-channel configuration) I'm getting freezes during the check.
    What could be the problem?
    Thanks!
    The full spec:
    Case: Thermaltake Armor+ ESA VH6001BWS
    PSU: Thermaltake ESA 850W
CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650
CPU Cooler: Thermaltake BigWater 780e ESA
Motherboard: MSI P7N2 Diamond (Bios version is 1.1, this also occurs at 1.0)
    Memory: 4 x OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Platinum 2GB (OCZ3P16004GK), 8GB Total
Sound card: MSI X-Fi Xtreme Audio (the one that is bundled with the P7N2)
GPU: MSI GeForce 280 GTX OC
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1 - x64 edition
The system is not overclocked at all, All the bios settings are set to default.

    Quote from: John_Doe on 18-January-09, 02:38:37
    OK, That's what I did:
Changed back the clock speed to auto (it was auto set back to 1333MHz), Changed the voltage of the memory and the NB back to "Auto".
Then I changed the memory to work as 9-9-9-24 and tested it with 2 dimms in a dual-channel configuration.
So far, It's looks like it's working and working well (2 passes completed successfully).
    Quote from: John_Doe on 18-January-09, 02:38:37
Assuming that the tests will go smooth, I would like to ask if this is a recommended configuration to stay with (1333MHz, voltages at "Auto", memory set to 9-9-9-24)?
Running those dimms not at overclocked & overvoltaged (and even in "lower speed" then it should) should prevent them from having short lifetime, Am I right?
Yes, because their DDR3 chips have been designed to work at 1333MHz with 9-9-9-24.
"Have been tested to work at 1600" is another fish in another (OCZ) ocean.
    good luck

  • Powerbook G4 freezes on me - memory problems..?

    Hi all,
I have just bought a new Powerbook G4 15inch as i read all sorts of varying articles on Macbook Pro's teething problems with Adobe etc so decided to go for the tried and trusted good old Powerbook.
So i got the retailer to boost it from 512mg to 2gb in the shop and after giving it a good workout (installing Illustrator, photoshop, microsoft etc) and playing with Itunes i find that it freezes on me every 15mins or so..! I'm told it could be a memory problem (maybe the 2 new 1gbs are not compatible). Or should i reinstall Tiger..?
    Any advice is welcome.. help..!
    G4 powerbook 15inch   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   1.67GHZ 2gigabytes 100GB

    Hello, Shane,
No, I've not had trouble with freezes on my powerbook. I did have a little trouble clicking in the RAM on the top slot properly, both on my PB and on a friend's, but in these cases, the PB beeped three times on startup (RAM "distress signal").
It has been my understanding that system freezes are often caused by faulty hardware--RAM, a peripheral device that is misbehaving, or a more serious problem such as logic board.
Running the hardware test in extended mode would help with this.
Some people have reported that they have solved system freezes when all the hardware checks out by doing an archive/installation of their operating system, or erasing the drive and re-installing from scratch.
    Good luck.

I also would be remiss in not pointing out that since your Powerbook is new, Apple is available to help you troubleshoot, and in case there is a serious hardware issue, making an early report is advisable.

  • Quicktime memory problem

I am using a Windows XP64 system, Pentium 6600 Dual core, Radeon X1300/1550 Card. Main purpose of Quicktime is running QRTV Pano's.
*It was all running fine, until I upgraded the memory from 2Gb to 8 Gb.*
Opening any .mov file now results in showing the part of the screen that is behind the player window at the start of QT. So obviously a memory problem.
I have installed all the latest drivers, MS-updates and QT player without any change.
I hope someone has a brilliant idea, for I tried everything that I could think off.
    regards, Ton

I've trashed all rendered and tried re rendering but it still does the same thing. I am having to do it in stages to do a render of everything.
Yes it is mac os extended I think - The computer is currently at the apple store getting data transfered to a new intel machine so not definately sure.
There is at least 100GB free though.

  • Other Memory issue IPOD Nano 8GB

My new 8GB Ipod Nano is indicating that 4.6 GB of memory is under other? Does any one know how to delete other so I can add more songs. I can only hold 526 songs on a 8GB Nano??? Is this a known memory problem?
    Any help would be appreciated

There certainly should NOT be 4.6GB of "other". This indicates that your PC wrote files on to the iPod that the iPod cannot read.
In iTunes, set the iPod so that disk use is allowed - this mounts the iPod like any other disk in My Computer (Windows) or the desktop (Mac). Look to see what is there, it might give you a clue. You can also "Restore" the iPod in iTunes to wipe it clean.
I have seen this occur on a friend's iPod when her automatic backup system assumed that the iPod was a destination disk and wrote a system backup to it. This happens only in Windows due to Microsoft's continued use of lettered drives rather than real disk names - the iPod had temporarily used the same letter as her regular backup drive and thus the backup program wrote to it. On Macs there are no letter drives and so each one is correctly recognized by name.

  • Memory problem please help Idmediently

Hey guys, Ive got an ipad 3 (16gb) and I had a look on my memory i have a few games and apps (GarageBand, keynote, imovie, pages, monoply, game of life and a few others) and it said 12.2 gb used and 1.2gb available i think that's counted wrong and I know approx 1000mb is 1gb it's impossible what do I do to get it accurate, even my brain holds more memory than that! Please help ASAP also I've tried restarting it
Here is a list of apps:
    GarageBand 696mb
    Imovie 531mb
    Ibooks 366mb
    Keynote 362mb
    Numbers 336mb
    Pages 311mb
And 52 apps are 150mb and under
I know that I had the same number of apps yesterday and the memory was 8.2gb I want it to be accurate.
    Reply ASAP.

Centipedee, No memory problem, you don't have enough room. It can take at least 2 times the required memory to load an app to the iPod. Once it loads it only requires 1.8GB of memory space but to get it there you'll need at least (maybe more) 3.6GB of space, I know it sounds screwy but it's how it works. Hope this helps, Good luck.

    Hi,
I suppose you are trying to store some particular value in memory in one program and then retieve it in another.
If so try using EXPORT data TO MEMORY ID 'ZC1'. and IMPORT data FROM MEMORY ID 'ZC1'.
To use SET PARAMETER/GET PARAMETER the specified parameter name should be in table TPARA. Which I don't think is there in your case.
    Sample Code :
Data declarations for the function codes to be transferred
    DATA : v_first  TYPE syucomm,
           v_second TYPE syucomm.
    CONSTANTS : c_memid TYPE char10 VALUE 'ZCCBPR1'.
Move the function codes to the program varaibles
      v_first  = gv_bdt_fcode.
      v_second = sy-ucomm.
Export the function codes to Memory ID
    EXPORT v_first
v_second TO MEMORY ID c_memid.        "ZCCBPR1  --- Here you are sending the values to memory
    Then retrieve it.
Retrieve the function codes from the Memory ID
      IMPORT v_first  TO v_fcode_1
             v_second TO v_fcode_2
      FROM MEMORY ID c_memid.                                   "ZCCBPR1
      FREE MEMORY ID c_memid.                                   "ZCCBPR1
After reading the values from memory ID free them your problem should be solved.
    Thanks
