Memory question for BB8120

Got a question: As far as I understood, the BB8120 has a 64Mb on board flash memory. However, since the very 1st day I got it, when I check "Avaiable memory" under "Status" it only shows me between 19 and 21 Mb. I`m not sure where the rest of the aproximatly 40Mb is..... applications? My understanding was that the BB has 64Mb left to play with.....

Hi and welcome to the forums!
The Blackberry had 64mb total device memory. Every application runs in device memory.
The media card is only for data storage, not applications. The more applications you use
the more device memory is used. 15mb of device memory is considered low. When you
dip below that you will have SMS, call logs, and messages deleted. This is a "life saving"
procedure by the Blackberry to provide as much memory as possible for all functions.
Thanks,

  • Memory Question for G4 Cube

In accordance with recommendations on a previous question here I have ordered OS 10.4.6 from Apple to install on my Cube. The Apple rep said it would work with the 384 MB ram I now have in the computer. I think I will add more memory though and the Apple rep advised I visit <www.crucial.com> to get it as Apple no longer stocks memory for the Cube. The spec for memory in the Cube manual says to use "PC-100" synchronous DRAM (SDRAM). The crucial.com site recommended a 512MB chip that says it is "PC-133" and implies it will work, guarantied. Will it?
It will be 2 weeks at least before Apple will ship the OS 10.4.6 package as it is on backorder. I know I will have some questions on installation when I get it.
    JTB

PC133 RAM is usually less expensive than PC100. The cube has 3 slots, and the max you can install is 3 x 512 megs. If all three slots are already filled, you will have to remove one of the modules and replace it with the 512 you plan to buy. I would personally stick with PC100, particularly if the modules that will remain are PC100.
I usually buy my RAM from Ramdirect. Their prices are competitive, and they have always stood behind what they sell - there is a lifetime guarantee. I will recommend them without reservation.

(I have no relationship with the company, other as a satisfied customer.)
Installing the RAM is dead easy, but you might want to download a service manual.

  • Memory Question for min 2011 iMac

I want to add more memory for my imac. I done the searches but I'm getting bits and pices of info so here are my questions ( I have 8gb of memory installed now. 2x4 gb)
    1. how much can i put in the 16 apple says or 32 ive read? (or any inbetween)?
    2. Apple sells the memory on their website ($200 is a lot for 8 gb) where can i find the same for less?  ie. waht's the best memory for my imac out there?
    3. It looks esy to install. Is it?
    Thanks!

Your first line is just incorrect. It is what Apple TESTED the unit with when it was first in production.
Apple recommends only 8Gbs in both the late 2011 model MBPs and even on the Mid 2012 model MBPs when it can actually take 16GBs of RAM with No Problems. Other manufacturers do that also. I have a Dell E6420 that Dell and even Crucial state that it can only take 8GBs. I have 16GBs installed.
To order that 16GBs from Crucial I had to punch in my late 2011 MBP as the model. When I used the Dell E6420 it came up with 8GBs. The package I got from crucial stated Mac Memory. Works fine in my Dell as the Mac and Dell use the Same Intel Chipset.
It is up to the Intel Chipset as to how much memory can be installed. If the intel chipset supports 16GB you can use 16GBs. if it supports 32GBs you can install 32GBs

    1)  I would stick with the 16 apple says.   While others may have gotten it to work on 32,  there is a reason apple recommends 16.
    2)  Crucial and OWC are the best memory you can find.  If you are looking for cheaper memory, PNY may work as well, but I would highly recommend using Crucial memory.

  • Memory question for a new user

This is probably a SIMPLE question and the answer is likely right in front of my face but I cannot seem to figure out how to find it.
How do I check to see how much memory I have available on my Macbook air? I have downloaded several large games and such, and I just want to see what my memory is looking like, and how much is still available? Where do I go to find that?
    Thanks so much!
    BN

If you do mean physical memory then launch "Activity Monitor" in utilities folder and you can examine the amount of actual memory currently in use. But as the previous poster mentioned unless you are RUNNING any game it won't matter to your memory use, but your hard disk use.

  • Memory question for nforce 2

    hello,
what memory would be better to buy for the nforce 2?  ddr 333 or ddr 400?
well, i know ddr 400 is faster but ddr 333 is asychronous with the new athlon with 333 mhz fsb.
    thanks,
    edison

    hello,
if i put ddr333 on an nforce 2, and overclock it as ddr400, the memory would be "stressed a little"(if it will run stabley), right? but the board wont get hurt even a little? i mean, it shouldnt because it was designed to also run at 400 mhz, right?
how about if i buy a ddr433, and put it in an nforce 2, and have it run at 433, the memroy wont have any problems since its really clocked that way, but the motherboard would suffer a little?
i'm thinking, if i'm going corsair, maybe i'll buy a ran higher than 400 so if nforce 3 comes, my memory will still live on that day since corsair memory costs a lot, i better be using it for a long time.  is this a good or bad idea?
    thanks,

  • RAM Memory question for Mac Pro 2.66 Ghz

Hi all. I've got a MacPro 2.66 Ghz machine and I'm wondering if I need more RAM. Depending on who I talk to, I get a different answer so I'm hoping for some educated opinions. I've been monitoring my system and I get the following numbers from the Activity Monitor:
    Wired: 1.20 GB
    Active: 1.81 GB
    Inactive: 957 MB
    Free: 53 MB
Although it appears I have quite a bit of memory between inactive and free, the computer at times performs "choppy" and slow. I get the "beachball" frequently. I've verified the disc volume and also verified permissions and there appears to be no issues.
Based on the fact that the computer is used heavily by two users, is there a possibility that I do need more RAM? Or should I run an diagnostic on the computer to confirm if there is another issue. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hello wenwon (and welcome),
    1. Assuming you've decided (wisely) to follow the suggestions to add RAM, I can only add that you should shop around - for only - "certified" RAM for your Mac Pro. Just for example, I've found macsales.com to be a good source: I bought 4 x 1 GB certified FB-DIMM w/ ECC RAM for a fraction of Apple installed price. Performance has been completely satisfactory.
Tips: adding RAM to the Mac Pro is easy & fast but must be done exactly to the instructions. macsales.com provides a good video tutorial which will help. Also, you will eventually hear that adding RAM causes more power consumption and higher running temp than, for example, adding hard drives. This is true: but read reviews such as the one on AMUG <http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/intel/macpro/>, which allievates that concern.
    2. I firmly agree with AjanovicH; don't jump on 10.5 as soon as it comes out. I had the chance to talk in person to a developer and he "seconded" my own "wait for maturity" standard. Besides, he also said that 10.4 has (obviously) reached full maturity and stability. How long you wait is up to you - just keep track of subsequent point releases (as in: 10.5.2, etc). And - do keep track of what's being said on the 10.5 Discussion threads and whatever other sources you find reliable. My own rule of thumb is to wait until the XX.x.5 release comes out. Minimizes the chance of spending time with problems which do come during the interim releases.

  • More add memory questions for a MacBook Pro 1.1 (late 2007)

I've read some of the previous threads and looked at the info that "the Hatter" has provided. In my case (actually my wife's case) she has 4 GB of ram with 1GB in each of the risers A/DIMM 1&2 AND B/DIMM 1&2. She wants to add memory and my question is can I just add 2GBs to each of the empty slots (Riser A/ 3&4 and Riser B/ 3&4). The previous examples showed only one slot in each riser with stock RAM , so i'm not sure if I should move the existing RAM in riser B to slots 3&4 in Riser A or not. By the way, it's a dual core, 2.66 GHZ.
I'm assuming, also, from earlier threads that adding different sized memory, as long as it's in pairs is okay.

You confuse me, because it sounds like your title is MacBook.
So what is it you don't understand?
Sounds like the Mac Pro was ordered or already upgraded once to 4GB. They came stock with 2 x 512MB.
And yes, you can add 4 x 2GB.
And yes, I'd move them to slots 1&2.

  • Memory question on Arch x86_64. 2x2048 MB = 3950 MB?

I have a naive memory question for some knowledgeable folks.  My machine has 2x2 Gb sticks which should total to 4096.  When I do a free -m under Arch, it's only showing 3950.  Is the remaining 146 reserved or..?
    $ free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 3950 422 3528 0 28 157
    -/+ buffers/cache: 236 3714
    Swap: 2000 0 2000

Thats a really good question and the result you get is normal as far as I know.
Part of it (a small part I believe) is used by the kernel, the rest of it, and this is where things are not so clear, is reserved as an agp apperture.
As far as I could tell (I have stumbled uppon that too) the problem seems to be that some bioses don't setup everything as they should.
The thing is that some devices can only handle 32bit addresses so their address is somewhere until the 4GB mark, because the bios doesn't setup the memory remapping correctly (sometimes the user has no way set anything related to memory remapping, this seems to be the case with some desktop boards and most notebooks/laptops). This memory remapping "problem" was anticipated and there are ways to properly handle that.
For some reason unknown to me (and most people that have stumbled upon this) many bioses don't setup (or allow the setup) of proper remapping. To add to the problem the kernel seems to reserve 128MB of agp aperture by default even if you don't have an agp card, this reserved address space falls in the first 4GB of addressing space therefore stealing you some memory.
I have tried to regain those MB, I have tried to recompile the kernel with a different config and I've tried several kernel boot parameters and the only thing I could regain was 64MB if I recall correctly. I can't find now what I have added to regain those 64MB, I didn't keep that option in the kernel line, 64MB were not worth the possibility of having problems later on.
I know its a pain to have that voice in the back of your head telling you that there is some memory that is being wasted, specially if you have tried a 32bit kernel with support for 64GB of address space and got 4050 MB of usable memory, but just leave it as it is, it's not worth the time and the trouble.

  • Memory question (yes, another)

ok, i have ddr memory rated for 200mhz, and the fsb of my processor is 333 mhz.
i was reading a thread on a corsair forum from a guy with my exact motherboard
AND memory, but a slightly lesser processor (a-xp 2500 vs a-xp2800, both barton333)
    he says:
    1. Motherboard is as started above: MSI K7N2 Delta2-LSR
    2. Processor is Athlon XP 2500+ Barton (333 FSB)
    3. CPU multiplier is unlocked so I can alter RAM to 200FSB and lower multiplier to
ensure that speed is the same.
    4. Running Dual Channel mode.
i know a 1:1 ratio is best, but to GET such a ratio, is there any practical difference
    between:
    a) setting the memory to 166 and the ratio (manually) to 1:1
    b) setting the memory to 200 and reducing the multiplier, as he's done.
i assume by multiplier he means the fsb:dram ratio - please correct me if i'm wrong.
    thanks!

Quote from: Grayone on 27-December-05, 03:39:37
Having the cpu multiplier unlocked does nothing to affect the memory speed.
after closer reading, he says he's running at 2.3 ghz, by changing his processor to
    200mhz * 11.  something i definitely don't want to do even with my 2800!
with that in mind, i think he meant in terms of upping the processor to match
the memory (or buying faster memory to match his already oc/d psu) - and my
question is moot, for my purposes. (feel free to delete!)

  • Memory Question "4x1 Gig or 2x2 Gig?" what is faster?

Memory Question "*4x1 Gig or 2x2 Gig*?" what is faster?
I'm still don't know if witch to choose?
4 times 1 gigabyte Ram Memory is cheaper but if I choose for 2 times 2 GB Ram I can always beef it it later.
And is my memory faster if I'm using 4 slots with 1 gig over 2 slot with 2 gig?
I'm asking this question because I think using 4 times the memory bandwidth will be faster?

    Hello Jan
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The iMac (Late 2009): Installing or replacing memory article and your User's Guide are pretty clear, they both say that +"You can use 2 GB or 4 GB RAM SO-DIMMs of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM in each slot."+ and not 1GB modules. > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3918
To upgrade your ram you will want at least 2 more 2 or 4GB modules and add that to the current 2 x 2GB of ram. > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/DDR321.527

  • 'Genius' related question for anyone with over 1.2TB of music?

Anyone out there with a iTunes library with over 1.2TB of music?
Reason I ask, is that I've not been able to solve a problem in updating Genuis - I'm getting the error - 'Genius results can't be updated right now. There is not enough memory available ~ Please try again later.' or the 'unknown 4002 error'.  The steps I've taken to try and correct sometime back can be found in https://discussions.apple.com/message/12584815#12584815 and also shown here in sequence below.
I keep thinking this will be fixed with the next version iTunes but so far with the latest, things still the same.  So looking to see if anyone with a similar size library is having similar problems and it just a limitation of the program or it's something specific on my end that I can fix.
    Appreciate...
Up to this weekend I've had not issues with Genius. Worked beautifully and updated last Sunday as I have been doing every week since Apple added Genius. Yesterday I added a few albums and went to update and now getting the error of 'Genius results can't be updated right now. There is not enough memory available ~ Please try again later.' Now my library is well over >200,000 songs and only added 6 albums this time. Music sits on a external 2TB drive ~100GB free and my MacBook Pro has over 60GB open. Running latest Mac OSX and latest iTunes. Nothing new installed or changed since last Genius update.
To the points raised in this thread.
    1. I've been updated weekly with a Library with over 200K songs till now with no problem. Majority is what I've ripped from my albums & CDs.
    2. Deleted the albums recently added since last successful update - same result.
    3. Connected directly to the network bypassing router as suggested here - same result.
    4. Reinstalled iTunes program - same result.
    5. Repaired permissions - same result.
Problem remains. Welcome any additional thoughts.
Question for anyone with a music library
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12584815#12584815
Ok, tried all the suggestions here yet the problem remains.
In addition what I posted above -
    1) Dumped the cookies in user/library/cookies folder
    2) Deleted the apple cookies found under Safari Preferences "Show Cookies"
    3) Repaired disk permissions
    4) Deleted iTunes Library Genius.itdb file
    5) Reinstalled iTunes (with the new 10.1 version)
    6) Restarted computer
    7) Rebuilt iTunes Library folder http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451
    8) Deleted all iTunes dead tracks
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=removedeadsuper
    9) Increased internet access speed
    10) Removed all open "[" and '}' brackets from songs, albums & artists
    10) Rebuilt my entire library from scratch!
Is there anyone out there with over 200K songs that can update their Genius? One thing I noted is the genuis.itdb file is just over 2GB. I'm wondering if there is a maximum size on this based on the error I'm getting. Any thought or know info on this?
Ok, think I may have found something here with this. I backed out all the music added prior to this problem occurring and ran the Genius update. All worked fine. I then started adding the music back little by little (running the update each time) until the problem returned. When the problem came back I ruled out the specific music added by backing that bit out, verified all was ok and added a different batch back in.
Bottom-line it appears that when my library exceeds exactly 1.208TB the problem appears. Interestingly enough it does not appear to be related to the number of songs, the size of the genius.itdb file (in fact when it was working the file was at 2.25GB - larger than what I reported before). It specifically seems to be related to the size of the overall library - when I have it for example at 1.2079 all is ok, 1.2081 it fails with this error.
I did try moving the library and related files to the external drive but same result. abavetta, I think your suggestion of this script may be a workaround for now - although from what I read, is this not the same that you can do anyway with iTunes by holding the alt/option key open start up? In fact I do have two libraries now - one with the 2TB drive which I use at home and another for 2x500GB disks I carry with me when i travel. I just reported the same back to Apple but doubt if any immediate solution will come for this. Too bad as one of the great things about having such a large library is the mixes you can generate via Genius. Anyway, such is life and will just live with this for now. I also just found this program called Tangerine! http://www.potionfactory.com/tangerine/ which creates playlists like Genius - although through a different technique I might also take a look at.

Just to let all know that may be having a similar problem, what I found by accident to fix this problem.
Reset all my Home Folder permissions using the resetpassword method from the startup utility in Lion.  Then turned off/on to reset Genius and cleaned out the cache folder for good measure.  Finally after more than a year without, have Genius up and running again.

  • Questions for BAS

    Questions for BAS
New to this forum, but I am running three Athlon 64 Boards here. The Abit MAX3 the MSI NEO on the KT800 chipsets. Also running a Gigabyte Nforce 3 K8NPro.
You have stated in many posts that the CPU decides what memory it uses, well I have to raise a few points. I have two sticks of Kingston Hyper X with Winbond BH5 work in both the MSI and the Abit, Two sticks of Kingston Hyper X Winbond CH5 will only work in the Abit, not in the MSI, all sticks also work on the Gigabyte. That disproves your theory somewhat. Also Abits bios update has listed as improved memory compatibility, if that is the case, then it is obvious that they cannot change your processor so they must be changing board paameters, relating to timing or voltages. This is a confusing issue.
Regarding the PCI Lock, and that the FSB does not control the hypertransport or PCI clock, why would VIA be busy implementing this in the K8T880 if it had no effect, and why does the hard drive get corruption above 230 fsb if the clock is not changing, it does not happen on the Nforce150 chipset. Also Cool and Quiet works by manipulating the multiplier to change the processor frequency, this is a multiplication of the FSB, and CPU Z also is able to read correctly the FSB.I am  not saying that what you say is incorrect, but I am trying to evaluate the situation here.
Some explanation would be welcome as I have not read this explanation anywhere else on the web, and no major hardware review site states this either. Lost Circuits has a pretty thorough review of the chipset and states issues with the PCI clock and hypertransport clock changing. If you use the Nvidia system Utility on the NForce 3 board it also reports the Hypertransport clock, and that is a direct association with the fsb and multiplier. Comments welcome. Also any idea when the voltage issue will be fixed regarding the Vcore, I know of a Beta bios but is it likely to be released soon. Strange thing is the Gigabyte board does almost the same thing, but will og to 1.55 just like the MSI will using windows to overclock.

    Hi,
As for the memory controller, see this document:
    http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/white_papers_and_tech_docs/23932.pdf
    As for the via chipset:
    http://www.via.com.tw/en/k8-series/k8t800.jsp
Anyway, it's actually funny, as everyone has a different story....
And nobody tells exactly how it's done, not even AMD....
I just gave my best idea of how it works, as nobody seems to know exactly (or doesn't want to say) it's all guessing....
As Anantech has another idea as well:
    http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1856&p=3
He say it's taking it from the HT bus.....and the FSB doesn't exists....
But my MSI manual states that it has an LDT transmitter clock, that controls HT and can only be set Auto, 200, 400, 600 or 800MHz...
So if anyone has a better idea of how it exactly works, please enlighten us all.....
One thing i'm 100% sure of, the memory is controlled by the CPU, not the board

  • Memory Cap for a Windows Service to run in the background all the time on Windows 8.1 Device

I have a Windows Store app that would run on a 2GB windows 8.1 Pro tablet. I want to create a service that would run in the background and more than one store app can utilize that service. The question I have is , is there any memory usage limit for the
service to run on a 2 GB RAM tablet?
I am expecting that the service might use 900 MB of RAM when its operational .
    Kindly help

    Hi,
For this situation, it seems that you create a wcf service and host the service on windows service which is running on the 2GB windows 8.1 Pro tablet. And other store app in the tablet can utilize that service.
If you want to limit the memory usage for the service, it's recommended that you could host the wcf service on other machine, such as a computer. You just call the service from the store application if you want to invoke the service.

  • Changing process memory limit for Reserved roles in plan

Is there a way to set our own process memory limit ABOVE 1024 in a plan (which is the default) ?  It will not let us make it larger than 1024 and this seems odd

    Thanks for your response.
    To answer your questions,
    1.  I'm using RTMP
    2.  FMS 4.0 out of the box
    3.  Didn't know I'd have this traffic volume.  Just sort of happened.
Don't have 300,000 connections all the time.  Most times only 100-1,000.  But once in a blue moon a particular client wants to broadcast to really high numbers.  I'll have to handle it somehow.
Let me simplify this to make it easier to answer.
Suppose I made an FMS chat app (not video) and passed the link to 300,000 people.  Suppose I told them all to log on at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow and send a message.  If they all did, would my FMS instance crash?
Suppose I then added something to the app.  Suppose I added an interactive poll. The poll pops up a question for the users like this:
    What's your favorite color?
    A. Red
    B. Blue
    C. Green
When users answer the question, FMS relays the real time voting updates back to all the clients so they can watch the voting results tally as they happen.
When all the users vote, will that crash the FMS instance?
On your point about multiple FMS boxes, that sounds like it works for video streaming.  Edge origin would permit the sharing of video streams across multiple servers.  But how do you share and synchronize a "chat" or "poll" app in the same way.  If I send a message to FMS box 1, how do the others get it?
Or is FMS not the best choice for non video apps (like chat and poll) in really high numbers?
