Memory replace on HP ENVY M7-K111DX

The HP ENVY M7-K111DX notebook I am planning to buy is currently being sold at Best Buy with 12GB of RAM.
Is it possible to swap out the existing 4GB RAM with an 8GB?
the reason I want to get this confirmed is that one gentleman at the store said it was possible and another says the RAM is fused to the motherboard and cannot be done.

    Hi,
HP Cartridge Protection is a feature meant to avoid couterthief.
A Protected Cartridge is a USED cartridge which been protected by its previous owner.
Once a Cartridge being protected by a user from the HP software, the cartridge can only be used the specific printer, it cannot be used on any other printer.
You will need to replace the protected cartridge in order to resolve the problem, its protection cannot be disabled.

There is a single slot for a regular full sized SATA hard drive. However, you can add a hard drive by giving up the DVD drive and using an adapter. Or, there is a slot on the motherboard for an M.2 mSSD hard drive but installing a drive there takes serious disassembly.
There is a version of the motherboard with 850M 4 gigabyte video but to get it you would have to find one of those motherboards and replace it for yours. Again, a very difficult and expensive process.

with NRU ,the container work with an eager remove algorithm, this as stated need pressure at the cache to push the container to remove the beans from the cache ,hence there will no passivation unless the max-beans-in-cache is reached, hence you can try reducing the max-beans-in-cache and see how the caching behaves , if It does not help ,chnage the Algorithm of caching or open a Service Request for us , we can look at this closely

  • Please, how to replace hard drive envy 15-k112nl

Hello everyone, I bought this model a few days ago and I would like to replace the hard drive with an SSD, but I do not find instructions for disassembly.
Can you help me?I also add a software problem, each time you start the module IGFX stops giving an error, how can I do to solve?

Here is a video that will help: Remove top cover Replacing the hard drive with an SSD will require that the top cover be removed and the hard drive sits in a bay next top the motherboard. It is not so easy as other models which have an easy access door for the hard drive. While you are in there consider upgrading the memory as that is even moire of a chore. Replace the SATA hard drive with the SSD. You should make the HP Recovery Disks using the HP restore and backup utility installed on the computer. Since it is so new a factory reload will likely not lose much if any of your data but you also have the option to back that up, too' If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

  • Memory card issue- HP ENVY 15-j186na Notebook

    Product name: HP ENVY 15-J186na
    Product number: j2t71ea#abu
    Operating system: Windows 8.1
    Hi there!
I'd like to upgrade the memory, but I can't find the exact model, In the product page it says:
    Memory:
    8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM (1 x 8 GB)
    Memory slots:2 user-accessible
In the HP support software in my laptop it says:
    Memory slot 1: 8GB Samsung 1600MHz
Now HP recommends that we buy the same memory card from the same manufacture, and despite searching , this is the only one I've found that appears similar to the one I've got:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-original-204-pin-PC3L-12800-1600MHz/dp/B00I21G832
    It says: (Samsung original 8GB (1 x 8GB) 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3L-12800, 1600MHz ram memory module for laptops)
My question is, is it the same memory card that I have? Reason is that in the model page it says “ SDRAM” and in Amazon it says “ SODIMM” and I have no clue whether it'd fit or not.
If not, can you please help to find the exact memory card I have in Ebay, Amazon or any place that sells it in the UK.
Many thanks and excuse my illiteracy in this sort of thing !

Need to add this, I've ordered a new memory card. These are the specifications:
    Brand: Crucial
    Module Size: 8GB
    Warranty: Limited Lifetime
    Specs: DDR3 PC3-14900 • CL=13 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1866 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 •
    Part number: CT5735670
Is it compatible with the memory card I already have?

  • BIOS flash memory access on HP Envy 17t-2100

Hello, I own a ENVY 17 (sku: LM125AAR), and am looking for any information available about how to read/write the flash memory.
Right now all I want to do is to be able to dump the current firmware to a file (perhaps later I will try the risky stuff).
So I would like to know where the flash memory is attached to (I can't open the laptop... yet...), and in case it's attached to some nasty custom controller, how could I do reads and writes safely.
    TIA.

  • Solid State Hard Drive Replacement For HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j053cl?

    Hello there,
I want to swap out my current 1TB harddrive from my year-and-a-half old HP ENVY with a 500 GB solid state harddrive that I just purchased from Amazon.
    Two questions:
    1) Is this solid state harddrive compatiable with my computer (specs below)?
    2) I want to reinstall windows onto the solid state harddrive after I install it (assuming its compatable).  How can I go about putting Windows 8 on a bootable usb drive to do this?  The computer does not have an optical drive and I don't have an external optical drive, so installing Windows via bootable usb is my only option.
I'm aware I can "clone" my PC onto the external harddrive if I wish, but I'd rather do a clean install if I can.
    Computer Specs:
    HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j053cl
    Product: E0K05UA#ABA
    Solid State Hard Drive Specs:
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E500B/AM)
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OBRE5UE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Please let me know any advice you may have.  Also, please feel free to ask any questions - hopefully I provided enough details.

Windows 8.1 has a built-in tool to make a recovery usb drive:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-usb-recovery-drive
The HP Backup and Recovery app can also do it. This is a factory clean install image and any data and programs you have added will be lost. If you have an external hard drive you can also do a backup with Windows File History. Then, add the backed up files to the factory install. You can also use File History to make a system image type backup and restore it to the new drive using a repair disk but this is virtually the same as a clone, which you said you do not want.
    Manual
Your service manual linked above. See page 47.
The Evo 850 is the best SSD on the market in my humble opinion and will work just fine for you.

  • What's a good phone to replace an lg envy VX9900 ?

My LG VX9900 was lost and I am on a prepay plan and need a replacement phone that will not need me to change my plan to be forced to have data.
I had a blackberry given to me but to upgrade it, I was told by the rep on the phone I need to change the plan fully with data, same with any new android phone or a phone that uses 3G.
I do not care for these features on my prepaid as the only use this phone gets is basically for emergencies.
With all the new phones around on the market with all their features, it is like  a blurred line between basic and smart phones.
Any good suggestions for a basic phone with a full keyboard that will allow me to keep my standard Daily Plan Prepay?

Hopefully, you know about being about to set the right-click in System Preferences +Keyboard & Mouse+ pane; there's not right button, but there is a sensor in the mouse that knows when you are touching the right side of the the mouse with your fingertip.
You can use almost any mouse for built-in functionality. But if the mouse works with the manufacturer's special Mac OS X mouse driver, it should be able to add functions to buttons, such as browser back button.
For example, I don't know your Logitech mouse model, but for the ones that are designed to work with Macs, they have this mouse driver. You can look up your particular mouse at their support web site.
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/428/906&cl=us,en?osid=9
If your mouse is supported, you could try it to see if it works.
Microsoft, Kensington, and Macally also have special drivers for their mouse products.

  • Envy m7-k111dx (best buy) boot from MSATA?

I'm assuming from the doc here..  http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04434142.pdf
that this model does in fact have an MSATA port buried in there.
If so, will it boot from it with a (wiped) standard sata drive installed also?
I've read some conflicting info but none of it about my specific model.
I have a 500gig standard ssd I can use, but I'd prefer to put a 500gig MSATA SSD
in and retain the included (slow) 1tb drive for storage.
    Thanks for any input.

There is an M.2 mSSD slot on the back side of the motherboard. See Page 71 of the Manual here. This is no easy task to get in there but HP does offer the m7-k1xx with an optional 256 gig MLC (multi-level cell) or TLC (triple level cell) M.2 mSSD so it must be bootable. There would be no need for an acceleration cache drive to be a 256 gig. If it will take a 256 ot will take a 500 gig.

    Good luck with this.

  • Upgrading Memory Modules: HP Envy Rove 20 Mobile All-in-One PC

** Be aware that performing this process to an In-Warranty device could effect warranty coverage.
    Memory Max
     16GB DDR3 SDRAM (2 SO-DIMMs)
CAUTION: Observe all precautions when removing and replacing components.
To prevent damage to the unit, protect data, and avoid personal injury, review and follow these precautions.
    Before you begin
If the unit contains heated components, wait until the components have cooled off before proceeding. Refer to the service manual for details on how long each component requires to adequately cool off.
Put on your electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist or shoe strap to avoid damaging any circuitry.
Place an ESD mat on a suitably grounded surface, and then place the unit on the mat.
Remove any devices from the unit being serviced, such as diskettes, tape cartridges, or CD-ROMs.
Power off the unit and any peripheral devices that are connected to it.
NOTE: Replacing a hot-plug device does not require powering down the unit.
Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet and then from the unit. When a unit is plugged into an AC power source, voltage is always applied to the unit. You must therefore disconnect the power cord from the power source before opening the unit.
Disconnect all peripheral device cables from the unit.
    Static electricity
Static electricity can damage electrical components. Before removing or replacing a component, observe the following precautions to prevent damage to electric components and accessories:
Remove all ESD-generating materials from your work area.
To avoid hand contact, transport and store all electrostatic parts and assemblies in conductive or approved ESD packaging such as ESD tubes, bags, or boxes.
Keep electrostatic-sensitive parts in their containers until they arrive at static-free stations. Before removing items from their containers, place the containers on a grounded surface.
Do not take the new component out of its ESD package or handle any component before connecting your ESD wrist or shoe strap to a suitably grounded surface.
Always use an ESD-protected work station when servicing the unit. If an ESD work station is not available, ground yourself to discharge body static by touching the metal chassis of the unit you are servicing.
Avoid contact with pins, leads, or circuitry.
Use the ESD package provided with the new part to return the old part.
    Disassembly
Ensure that you take the following precautions when disassembling a unit:
Label each cable as you remove it, noting its position and routing. This will make replacing the cables much easier and will ensure that the cables are rerouted properly.
Keep all screws with the component removed, if applicable. The screws used in each component can be of different thread sizes and lengths. Using the wrong screw in a component could damage the unit.
If the unit contains light-sensitive components such as toner cartridges, store the component in its original packaging or in a dark location to avoid damage.
STEP 1: Removing the bottom cover
NOTE: The battery cannot be disconnected until the back cover is removed. Use care not to power on the unit during handling.
With the unit flat, back cover facing up, close the stand.
Remove the media card or media blank from the media slot in the center of the bottom cover.
Using a non-marring tool, carefully pry out two rubber screw covers.
Loosen completely, the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the bottom cover to the back cover.
Starting along the bottom, carefully pry off the bottom cover and pull it away from the unit to remove.
STEP 2: Remove the back cover
Remove the five 6 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the back cover to the unit.
Starting along the sides, carefully pry off the back cover and pull it up and off of the unit to remove.
    STEP 3: Memory Removal
Before you begin: Disconnect the battery cable from the system board.
Push both arms outward simultaneously to release the memory board to the spring tension position.
CAUTION: When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
Grasp the memory board by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
Place the memory board in a static dissipative bag.
STEP 4: Memory replacement or installation
Grasp the memory board by the edges and remove it from the static dissipative bag.
Align the notch in the memory board with the key in the empty board receptacle on the system board.
At an angle, gently insert the memory board into the slot on the system board.
CAUTION: When handling a memory board, use care to prevent touching the memory chips on the board. Touching the memory chips could damage or destroy the memory.
Press the memory board down to latch the arms.
NOTE: Be sure to reconnect the battery cable to the system board before completing reassembly of the unit.
    STEP 5: Back cover replacement
Align and press the back cover into position until it snaps into place.
Replace the five 6 mm P1 Phillips-head screws to secure the back cover to the unit.
    STEP 6: Bottom cover replacement
Align the bottom cover tabs with the slots in the back cover.
Carefully press the bottom cover into position and snap it into place.
Tighten the two captive P1 Phillips-head screws to secure the bottom cover to the back cover.
Replace the two rubber screw covers.
Replace the media card or media blank removed earlier.
Press the stand release button to have the stand pop up to support the unit when it is upright.
** Remember to keep the original RAM module(s) for potential future troubleshooting needs.  If you ever have to send the unit in for repair it will have to have these original module(s) in place.
    Hope this helps,
    Jason
