Memory space of iPad

When we sync ipad to a computer, Itunes indicates the amount of spaces eaten by Video, Apps, Music etc., However, I notice that the "Other" eats more space, how do I correct this and turn the space useful??

Backup and Restore to reduce "Other".

  • Syncing photos into my IPAD 2 is eating up my macbook memory space, it didn't with my IPAD1, is there a way to fix this?

I have a IPAD generation 1 and i just got my iPAD 2 last week, both ipad are 64 gb. I have a picture collection folder on my macbook pro desktop that is around 45 gb that i need for my work. The problem was that when i tried to sync this folder into my ipad 2, it started eating up a considerable amount of my computer memory space leaving me with around 13 gb left and mysteriously adding more gb to the foldering (it is around 90gb now). I've had my Ipad 1 for a while and it has never been a problem when i sync the same folder, i was also able to store a lot more document folders on my desktop before my ipad 2 came along. im wondering if the IPAD 2 somehow creates backup files of things it syncs within my computer and how i can get back my computer memory space?

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Restor from backup
    - Restoe to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • I bought Itunes match, when can I delete the songs from my Ipad? It's memory is full and I bought Itunes match in order to free some memory space

I bought Itunes match, when can I delete the songs from my Ipad? It's memory is full and I bought Itunes match in order to free some memory space. I already activate the itunes match in the Ipad, but it still keeps the songs. Can I erase them?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Go to settings > general > usage > storage and select music. You will see how much space is being used. Swipe to delete.
This will clear cache. Streaming uses up storage space. If you have specifically downloaded tracks you can delete them individually. Will still appear on your ipad but with the download icon.

  • How can I add more memory to my iPad?

How can I add more memory to my iPad?

Memory refers to RAM, and can't be increased.
I asume you mean storege space (like 16GB, 32GB, etc). It also can't be increased.
There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.
    Another option:
Expand your iPad's storage capacity with HyperDrive

I deleted all my photos and videos and then delete the deleted files but the photo app is still taking up 12 GB of space and I have no room for new stuff.  How can I clear the memory space used by my deleted videos and photos?  I don't know why the photos are still taking up space and if I will have to reset my phone to get rid of the problem.

    Hey there TowneJ,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

  • HT1660 Store my iTunes in iCloud and not my computer so save to memory space?

How can I store my iTunes in iCloud and not my computer to save on memory space?  I want my iPhone and iPad to Sync with iCloud and not my PC..... What is the sequence I need to follow?

    Hello Bondisun,
It sounds like you would like to free up disk space on your computer by listening to your purchases directly from the Cloud, rather than storing them on your computer. First check the preferences setting to Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases in your iTunes preferences:
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Display items purchased from the iTunes Store that haven’t been downloaded to your computer. These items have a Download button next to them.
From: iTunes 11 for Windows: iTunes Store preferences
              http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12468
Then you can delete all the songs in your library, and empty your trash to free up the disk space.
iTunes 11 for Mac: Delete songs, playlists, or other items
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12159
If you have music in your library that was NOT purchased from iTunes, this will not work for them. In order to store those songs in the Cloud and listen to them via streaming as outlined above, you would need the iTunes Match service.
Here is some more information on that:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/
As far as your iOS devices, simply sign into your accout in Settings > iTunes and App Stores and that will sync your devices to your iTunes account.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    dave0915,
iTunes stores your iPhone backups in the Library folder in your Home folder.
iTunes places the backup files in these places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

  • In tune show all summary activity during sync between nb and apple device. One of the summary is memory space status. Audio mayb3gb, photo 2gb, app with 3gb. What is other? Other consist of what type of file?

In tune show all summary activity during sync between nb and apple device. One of the summary is memory space status. Audio mayb3gb, photo 2gb, app with 3gb. What is other? Other consist of what type of file? It show quite substantial storage capacity?? Anyone can answer what is in other??

"Other" includes data such as contact information and photos assigned to contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cookies/history, notes created with the Notes application, SMS messages, email stored locally or cached, and 3rd party application data created and stored by the application.
If "other" is more than say .75GB at the most, you had a corrupt sync. Try syncing again and if the problem persists, the recognized fix for this is to restore your iPad.

  • How to trim photos in iPhoto to release space at iPad?

My iPad memory is full because many of the 4,000 or so pictures I sync from iPhoto or downloaded directly are too big (over 1MB each, some are 4MB!).
These pictures are arranged in 16 different albums.
I thought about trimming the pictures bigger than 300KB in order to save iPad memory space.
What would be the most recommended procedure to trim the pictures but keeping the same albums structure as I have today at iPhoto/iPad?

Export from iPhoto to a folder (as "original"),
No. Export to a folder as Jpeg and with a low quality - that makes for smaller files.
Sync that folder with the iPad. It works with any photo.
    Delete "old" photos from iPhoto
    Why?
If the Album or event is no more at iPhoto, it will be  removed from the iPad when syncing
Correct. Or just choose not to sync that particular Album or Event - same thing.

  • How can free up memory in my iPad 2

I have the ipad 2 and iPhone 5 both running iOS 8.1.3. I have done all the obvious things like deleting unused apps, deleted old emails and anything else I can think of Including saving what I can to a cloud. I am desperately short of memory despite these actions and wonder if there is away of tidying up the memory to speed them up and create more memory space.

There is no automated way to do it. Just what you have done. Delete photos and videos (after backing them up to your computer), texts with photos or videos, movies, tv shows, etc.
You can go to Settings>General>Usage and under Storage (not iCloud Storage), click on Manage Storage to see what is taking up the most room on your devices.
    Cheers,

  • What can I do to help my memory on my iPad

I am losing my memory on my Ipad, What can I do to help it out?

How much space is Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • I clearly have enough memory space but why is it still not able to download?

So I bought this app that requires 1.5 GB of memory space and I have 3.2 GB of memory space. But whenever I try to download it keeps saying I don't have enough storage. I've deleted many apps, songs and videos but its still not working. I've also tried restarting my iPad mini multiple times and its still not working. Has anyone else encountered this problem before, if so what's the solution to the problem?

Apps that are that large are compressed. Decompression can use twice that amount, even more. On top of that, the device needs working memory as well. I'd say you need to free up at least another 1 GB, maybe even more. Keep offloading apps, music, videos, whatever to free up enough space for the download & decompression. Hopefully, you can fit what you removed back on after the app has downloaded & installed.

  • Memory Space taken up by iOS

Just wondering how much memory space will actually be available for use on a 16GB iPad Mini after the pre-installed apps and iOS are taken into consideration?

though I have sufficent memory space, and other internet based functions are running...

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
However, since it works with other networks that really suggests a problem with your network.

  • What's in the JVM Process's Memory Space?

    Hello
I'm noticing the following behavior on an NT system. On
    application startup, I see
    Total Heap 9 MB
    Used Heap 5.5 MB
java.exe memory (from NT Task Manager) 36 MB
After a "login" operation which loads a few more
    classes:
    Total Heap 12.5 MB
    Used Heap 8.2 MB
java.exe memory (from NT Task Manager) 53 MB
Heap memory leaks have been ruthlessly suppressed
(thanks to OptimizeIt and careful programming). The
behavior I do not understand is that the NT process
(java.exe) increased in size by 17 MB when the Java
heap increased by only 3 MB. The .jar file in which the
application resides is less than 1 MB, so this 14 MB
growth can not be attributed to new classes being
    loaded.
Does anyone know what is going into the process
memory space of java.exe? It tends to grow larger
    and larger.
Should I even care? Do I want a large allocation of
process memory for java.exe, or will that hamper
performance of machines with less physical memory?
Posts on related topics in this forum have sometimes
advocated allocating a lot of memory to the JVM with
    -X options.
    Thanks

    Hello
I am facing exactly the same problem on NT. However, on 2000 Server this problem doesn't seem to exist. Are you, by any chance, using JNI? We are extensively using JNI in our Servlets and found that there is definitely some momory leak there. We could not figure out any substantial leak at Java end. In NT's "Task Manager" java.exe is always listed first and very rarely the memory usage seems to come down. On 2000 Server the performance is far better.
