Memory Speed (MHz) missing in 'About This Mac'

Hi
I'm using a Macbook Pro with 10.4.9 and all updates and I recently noticed that the memory speed is missing in the 'About This Mac' window.
It's saying: Memory 1GB 0 MHz RAM.
Am I the only one with this problem or is this a bug?

  • When I open about this mac - more info and I switch through the tabs (display, memory, storage, support, service) it lags (fps drops, animation looks choppy not smooth). Why does this happen? (over 300 gb free, same programs installed, free desk-downloads)

When I open about this mac -> more info and I switch through the tabs (display, memory, storage, support, service) it lags (fps drops, animation looks choppy not smooth) even though all the mac (programs , interface ) works smooth . Why does this happen? (over 300 gb free, same programs installed, free desktop-downloads -no garbage there- everything neat and tidy.) Need some help. Only there it the animations goes like 2 fps and is not smooth. I do not understand why because the programs are the same so its the usage. Nothing is changed, yet i experience this little issue for a couple of days.

OK, I'm confused. When I do About this Mac > More Info in OS10.9, I don't see any animation other than the window resizing. Is that the animation you are describing?

  • How can I have ext hard disks show on "About this Mac/Storage" that are ousted and show on screen

I have Mac 10.9.5, Intel.  I was working in iMovie, when message came up and said I do not have enough space on my hard disk.. I have several hundred GB available.  All my ext. HD's appear on my screen.  In  "About this mac/storage" only my HD and two of the four external drives show up.  The two  ext. drives that show on "about This Mac" are full.  I have done a disk utility check on every drive and they are fine.  Also, the whole machine is very slow. I have rebooted also.

  • Emac processing SLOW...wheel spins even when trying to open "about this mac"

this is a new to me mac. I have only had it about 5 days.
    running 10.5.8.  1.42g 512 160g w/superdrive
It runs slow most of the time. when I am connected to the internet it seems ok, but when running or trying to open things like itunes, system preferences, system profiler and other applications it keeps that annoying spinning wheel going for minutes.  I have even had to just shut it off and start it back up again by pressing the button.  also, when I put in a cd or dvd it takes forever to read it. and the drawer doesn't want to open readily.
my other mac running 10.4.11 on 800mhz 512 80g doesn't have this trouble at all. I was thinking I was upgrading.
I tried to do repair permissions and that was taking forever, so I stopped it.
I know I will get some smirks by this, but I do not have the start up disks. I purchased this used without the disks.
I did look up some other posts about this, but wondered if there were some more suggestions without downloading anything.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks! Kelli

    Hi Kelli,
10.5 needs twice as much Memory as 110.4 does, as wel it's far more demanding of the Video card & Hard Drive.
These are "Minimums" which never suffice for much...
    Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
        * A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
        * Built-in FireWire
        * At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)
        * DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
        * At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools  (I recommend 20GB minimum)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1514
    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
        *  Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
        * 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: eMac
    Model Identifier: PowerMac6,4
    Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (1.2)
    Processor Speed: 1.42 GHz
    Number Of CPUs: 1
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.9.2f1

  • In "about this mac" on my macbook air the model is wrong...

In the UI "about this mac" on my MacBook Air (middle 2011) the model is wrong, it's appear MacBook Pro. Does anyone knows why??? It was the same with the first update of Lion (10.7.1) and now with the upgrade ML too...

I don't think this...it's a mba of july 2011 (it came out with the new OS X Lion last year). Here's the overview:

    Do you have any ideas?

  • Question: I want to update to the new LION OSX, but it says that I need to at least have an Intel Core 2 Duo. When I click "about this Mac," it says that I have a 2.16 Intel Core Duo. Is there a difference between the "Core 2 Duo" and the "Core Duo"?

Well, my title basically asks the question that I am seeking an answer for. Im not sure what year my MB Pro is, and I cant exactly find it on the Apple site. Its a 2.16 Intel Core Duo, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. All I see (dating back to 2007,) is Intel Core 2 Duo on the apple site. Im pretty sure (but not 100% positive,) that my MB Pro is a late 2008/early 2009. Just trying to figure out if I can install LION OSX or not, since it requires atleast intel core 2 duo, and mine says I only have the intel core duo. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Core Duo is 32 bit processor and Core 2 Duo is 64 bit processor
OS X Lion, will only on 64 bit Intel processor Mac's.
The following Mac's that have 32 bit Intel “Yonah” processorsthat won't run OS X Lion.
    iMac 4,1 Early (Jan-Sept) 2006 17"
    iMac 4,1 Early (Jan-Sept) 2006 20"
    iMac 4,2 Mid (July-Sept) 2006 17"
    Mac Mini 1,1 (Feb-Sept) Early 2006
    Mac Mini 1,1 (Sept-Aug) Late 2006
    MacBook 1,1 13" (May-Nov 2006)
    MacBook Pro 1,1 15" A1150 (Jan-May 2006)
    MacBook Pro 1,2 17" A1151 (Aprl-Oct 2006)
    MacBook Pro 1,1 15" A1175 (May-Oct 2006)
There is a difference between “Intel Core Duo” and “IntelCore 2 Duo” processors.
Look under your Apple menu > About this Mac > more information for the details

My imac running OS 10.6.8, and want to install Garmin software that needs OS10.7.
The latest upgrade Maverick requires a MAC dated 2007 or later. Where is the date... It is NOT in "About this Mac".
I feel an older upgrade than Maverick might be better for my machine?
Is it possible to upgrade to ie, 10,7? or another recommended upgrade.
    How to proceed?

Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion or Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • "About this Mac"  (System Profiler) won't open

I have been having some strange problems with my computer. I got a new MBA a couple of weeks ago. I installed 10.6.4 with all the old folders and files from the old computer (MBA too Rev C).
Now "About this Mac won't open". It opened before I shifted everything over to the new computer.
The other thing is that an external USB drive won't mount. It mounts on the Powerbook I have and I can move files from and to it. However, on the new MBA, only the external drive appears. The other part is grayed out, and it doesn't mount, as I have said.
I don't know whether these two things are related or not but I thought I would just mention this other problem I just noticed at the same time. (I will make a new question about it.)
The external USB memory drive is formatted to MacOSX extended journal.
I did repair and verify on Disk Utility and these things checked out OK.
I just checked it on the old MBA (same OS) and it mounts fine and I can manipulate contents of the drive.
Is it something to do with firmware issues?
I just tested another USB memory drive and it has the same problem as the other USB memory drive.
I don't know what my next step is.
I want to use the newer MBA instead of having to use the older MBA and the Powerbook to use the USB memory drives. These USB memory drives are USB 2.0. As I have said they work fine on the other older computers.
On the older MBA, "About this Mac" works fine.
I haven't done that much since I migrated everything over to the new MBA. I have just been surfing the Internet. I don't know when the System Profiler failed to work. I tried to open it for the first time since I moved the contents of the old MBA over just now.

I opened System Profiler by launching it from Utilities.
It comes up with a different name to the admin name though. Maybe that's why it won't open from "About this Mac"?
For example, the computer's name when I set it up using the USB installer stick is "Harry Potter".
But the old MBA that I had was named "js".
When I install programs, it comes up with "Harry Potter", put in password.
However, when I look up the System Profiler information using Utilities, it comes up with "js's MacBook Air (2)".
    Does that matter?
Is the name thing causing the problem with the "About This Mac" not opening?
I am really confused about all of this.
The information in the System Profiler is about the newer MBA.
Should I just not worry about this problem? And just open it up from Utilities if I need to look up System Profiler information?

When looking at my "About This Mac" it says that I have 60gb of space left on my hard drive, but when I go into finder to find all of these files there is not 300gb worth in anything I search, even searching, "All files on the Mac". Help!?
It says I have over 150 gigs of video on my hard drive. But I have gone through and deleted almost all of what shows up, still it says there is roughly the same amount on the hard drive. Where are these files? I want to delete them so I can have my hard drive clear.
    Thanks for your help guys!

    Quote from the article.
Time Machine in OS X Lion includes a new feature called "local snapshots" that keeps copies of files you create, modify or delete on your internal disk. Local snapshots compliment regular Time Machine backups (that are stored on your external disk or Time Capsule) giving you a "safety net" for times when you might be away from your external backup disk or Time Capsule and accidentally delete a file.
So what makes a notebook any different then a desktop, other then with a desktop you might have your tm backup drive connected all the time.
The object here is to not indiscriminately delete files you need or want to keep. I personally have never deleted a file I wanted to keep.
In essence a backup is for catastrophic failure of your system. So it can be restored once that failure has been fixed. Not because you go in willy nilly and start deleting files.

  • I have already downloaded OS Yosemite (it says so on my Apple About this mac overview) but now I keep getting a message from "install Yosemite" that keeps asking me to install Yosemite again and won't go away.

What do I do? I have already downloaded OS Yosemite (it says so on my Apple>About this mac>overview) but now I keep getting a message from "install Yosemite" that keeps asking me to install Yosemite again and won't go away.

I have the same issue. My computer has also slowed down. I hope this isn't a malware. I haven't input my password into it, and dont know what I did to turn this on.
Hope someone else can give some insight

It classifies this data under "other". I have been searching all over the internet, I went to the Apple genius bar yesterday and they recommended I re-install OSX. I did and it still shows up incorrectly. They were baffled, said they never really came across this issue. I have tried re-indexing spotlight, that didn't seem to help.
The amount of storage used IS correct. It just doesn't show up under the correct categories in storage, under about this mac. Also, the computer seems to work fine. No real issues. It's a mid 2012 MBP. 500gb hard drive. Most recent OSX is installed.
I DO NOT think it is local snapshots, cause my backups category is small and the amount of space used and free is correct. I have downloaded omnidisk sweeper to confirm this.
I have seen a few posts on here and around the web referring to this, but no real answers. I have also reviewed Pondini's info on this to no avail.
    Does anyone have any ideas?!?!

    Also,
I had installed a version of parallels with windows 7, but deleted it. Would parallels be causing my computer to index incorrectly? I I used appcleaner to delete all the parallels files so I do not have it anymore.

  • When I go to About This Mac and click on Storage it shows 421.93GB as Other. This only leaves 46.85GB of 499.25GB free. How do I find out what this "Other" is so I can remove the stuff I don't need?

What kind of use do you make of your MBP?  A lot of photo or video?  If so, you may be storing a lot of large files.  Look at Finder and see what the file system looks like.  Do you have large libraries of data files associated with applications?
You may want to think about an external hard drive to use for backups and data storage, you can point applications to the external drive as the default storage location.
A good source of external drives at a reasonable price is the Mac specialist, OWC, http://www.macsales.com
I bought their Mercury Elite Pro 2 TB dirve last September and set it up to use part for Time Machine backup and part for other work space.  Setup with Disk utility into two partitions is very quick and easy.  Just remember to format as Extended Journaled with GUID partition table.  Setting the partition sizes is by using a braphical image on screen in DU so it is like falling off a log, so easy.

  • Why would it state under the "more about this mac" that i already have10.8.3 and then in the app store say i need to "resume" do you know what i mean? is it possible i already did download mountain lion entirely once? I am confused and don't want it twice

This is cause by the way the App Store checks to see if an application is installed on your system.
Basically when an app is installed it is in the Applications folder and this is where the MAS looks for them. So it looks at your purchase history for the apps you bought and looks in the Applications folder to see if they are installed. If an app is in your purchase history but not in the Applications folder the MAS says you need to install it.
For normal apps this works fine but the OS doesn;t install into the Applications folder. So the MAS sees you have Mountain Lion in your purchase history but it's not in the Applications folder and so it says you need to download it.
Hopefully one of these days Apple wil fix this.
    regards
