Memory stick
I used to be able to put a memory stick in (USB), it wouldj show up on my desktop and then I could drag pictures onto it and save them. Now....when I put a stick in, it just shows up in finder as a device and I can't drag anything to it. What have I done, this time?
Kerry
If it was formatted as NTFS on a Windows PC, you can't drag anthing ONTO it, only drag FROM it? Any use?

I am trying to put photos stored in a memory stick onto my Mac computer. But there are two folders that will not move. I get an error message saying - volumes/FLASH DRIVE/desktop. ini - can someone help me please? The photos are from my windows computer. Please answer back assuming I am a total drip - I am a lot older than you I should imagine !! Thanks Glenys
Can you double click on them on the memory stick, see if preview opens them, then save them to your Mac?

Low data transfer with memory stick on a Satellite A100-207
Hi, whenever I stick the memory stick from my Sony Ericsson P990i Smartphone into my notebook it says it has detected new hardware and needs to reboot to use it.
I kinda expected this first time, but it does it EVERY TIME now. Which means transfering files onto the memory stick takes a lot longer than it should and it is far easier (but a lot less convient) to transfer them via my network to my main home PC and use the card reader in my Epson printer to put the files on the memory stick.
Anyone know why this happens and how to stop it. I need to regularly update files on the memory stick as they are edited both on the laptop and the phone (via QucikOffice which comes pre-installed and alows editing of word and excel files).
Any help or ideas is appreicated.
AndyI agree with Andrej. You should be 100% sure that this card is compatible with the card reader on the notebook.
Furthermore what transfer rate do you expect?
I think every card has different write/read access times. So do not compare it with other cards. -
2 GB memory stick run with 1 GB memory stick?
I'm looking into the possibility of maxing out the memory on my 2nd gen Macbook from 2 gb to 3gb, and have one question left.
Would the fact that I'd have a 2gb Crucial memory stick running next to a 1 gb Apple memory stick throw off the optimization of the system so much that it would just be better to stick with the two apple issued 2gb memory sticks?First Magus wrote:
It will not hurt anything as long as they are the same speed. I did it when I first got my MacBook. I installed a Crucial stick next to an apple supplied stick and it worked like charm. I wanted to add I used it for over a year like this with no noticeable problems while using programs such as Photoshop CS3.
You know - after I read the Santa Rosa chipset datasheet, I'm starting to wonder even about this. Intel claims that the GMA965 is capable of controlling either "533 or 667 MHz" memories - meaning PC2-4200 or PC2-5300. A cursory reading said that a full dual channel setup is achieved by simply matching the sizes, and that if the speeds were not the same, it would revert to the lower speed on both channels. However - I haven't heard of anyone trying out a PC2-4200 module. My curiosity is now piqued, and maybe I can try that tonight with a Samsung PC2-4200 module I have lying around.
Of course Apple could configure it such that only PC2-5300 is acceptable, but I didn't go so far into the datasheet to see what was in the configuration registers.
Of course we've recently had the entertainment of someone claiming dire consequences from mixing and matching memory brands, but I think it's safe to say that shouldn't be an issue. -
Can I use a memory stick to back up my MacBook Air and what size do I need?
i Have a MacBook air , processor 1.3 Ghz Intel core i5, 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. Operating on OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1.
it will not open up Safari, it crashed out of Safari with an error message and will not ooen it up now however many times I try. I was reading Daily Mail on line at the time. I can get onto the Internet by using Chrome but it feels as if Chrome is in charge of me rather than the other way round. when I type in an address it just takes me where it wants to go rather than the website I want to to. I now want to back up my data but left my drive in UK (I am in USA at the moment.) so wondered if I can back all my data (very important data) on to a memory stick so I can wipe my computer and start again. I have an appointment with a techie at the Apple shop on Saturday but need to back up my data before the appointment, so not sure what to do.
ALso my IPad is very unstable after using the Daily Mail site, it has always seemed to be fine before but this weekend seems to have created problems for both my MacBook Air and IPad Mini...You'd probably be better served to use a conventional external USB:

My guess is they don't care. Most likely they're illiterate and don't know what a colon is for. They probably think it's a little-used character. Remember: these are the people who don't know the difference between "deprecate" and "depreciate".
I have the same colon problem as you do. But it's not the biggest problem I have encountered in Lion. If it was only that I'd be Mr. Delighted with Lion. There's worse than having a colon - uh - that won't cooperate. A lot worse, in Lion. -
I cannot seem to open back up my memory stick. I dragged the "icon" to the trash bucket before I pulled the stick out. The memory stick icon no longer shows up on my computer. It also will not open on any other computer. Is there anyway to find the memory stick when its plugged in with out having the icon show up?
You might try the obvious, although I have seen memory sticks fail. Good luck.
1)Remove the memory stick
2) Shut the computer down
3) Restart the computer
4) Login
5) Re-insert the memory stick -
How do I use memory stick for pictures
How do I use a memory stick for my pictures? I put it in the side of computer? I want to look at
my pictures on it and save more on it?Open Finder, the stick will be in the left hand pane, click on it and what is on the stick will show up in the right hand pane. Double click on one of them and it should open in Preview or iPhoto.
You can use iPhoto for this also and you can copy images from iPhoto onto the stick.
I dont use iPhoto, I use Lightroom, and when I do something like this I use Finder. -
How do I import an iPhoto Library (V.7.1.5) created on my old MacBook (10. 6.8) into my new Macbook pro (10.9.1) running iPhoto 9.5.1? I tried copying onto memory stick and moving to new mac, but new iPhoto doesn't recognise the library.
So what exactly did you copy over? If it's a 12 gig iPhoto Library then it sounds like the files are there. Perhaps the copy went wrong along the way.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I have tried to copy my iTunes library from my old (2008) Dell PC to a 32 GB memory stick and then copy it from the stick to the iTunes library in the new MacBook Pro which I purchased recently from a reputable dealer which resells refurbished Macs, (lease returns, etc). The dealer was Computer Trends store in Saskatoon. They told me how to move my existing iTunes libary from the PC to the Mac but I cannot seem to achieve that objective. The Mac does not seem to recognize the memory stick. I thought the Mac would recognize that the memory stick held iTunes files and would then transfer them without prompting to its own iTunes libary. It did not do so. I have therefore tried to find the command sequence within iTunes (on the Mac) for moving the material from the memory stick to the iTunes library. Cannot find those commands. Does anybody know where to find such commands. I have to say, I am really disappointed that such a simple function would prove to be beyond my capabilities. I thought the Mac was supposed to be easier than a PC. !!! Oh well, I am hoping this forum will help !!!
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
So, you can see your whole iTunes folder on the memory stick after copying from the PC? -
Transferring photos from iPad to memory stick.
That's the truth.
I went shopping yesterday and bought a £25 lightning adapter to SD card for my iPad. Today I find out I cannot perform the extremely simplistic task of copying my required photos to my SD card using the adapter ...
Any other tablet or phone would do this.
I now face an uphill struggle to get these photos off of the iPad and onto an SD card before going to the camera shop to get them printed on photo paper. I am due at my terminally ill mothers house in 1hour20mins. It will take me 1 hour to drive to her town. I then need to get to the camera shop and print these pictures off - I reckon at least 30mins to park and print them. And this does not factor in the wasted time and money I have already spent this morning getting nowhere with this useless adapter. It does not factor in the time wasted now trying to get these photos off my iPad, on to a computer, then on to an SD card - then leaving the house............
I think me and Android are going to be very good friends. -
How can I upload my photos to a memory stick from my iPad
You can't do it directly from your iPad, the camera connection kit only copies photos/videos to the iPad's Photos app, it can't be used to copy them off.
You can copy photos to a computer and from there to the memory stick : Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC. -
How can I use my Geil DDR500 ultra platinum Memory stick at 500Mhz
Ok this is probally going to be simple for most people to fix, the problem is i can't seem to set up the bios to accept my DDR500 memory sticks. Everything I've tried results in either:
> no display on boot (monitor just shuts off)
> a message saying "times to tight bla bla"
> shuts down of the computer occurs straight away after POST and will reboot with the too tight error
I'am really stuck and do not know if it is the way im setting the bios or that the mobo can't take the Geil sticks. I did post some threads a while back about them but know one seem to have the same ones as me.
This the setup i've been trying :
Mat setting = slow (cos it won't like another setting in conjuction with things below)
CPU Ratio = locked
DRAM Frequency= 500
CPU Clock= 250
Vcore=1.6v
DDR voltage=1.8v
agp voltage =1.5v
memory= 2.5-4-4-7-8
but if i use this i get all the problems above, i can only seem to adjust only one thing of what i list in the setup i was trying, to have a stable system.
E.g if i change the memory timings i can't change anything else.

How do I move my photos from iPhoto to a memory stick
How do I move all of the photos in iPhoto to a memory stick. I want to keep them in a different physical location for safe-keeping.
Format the memory stick first.
This is our resident iPhoto guru, Terence Devlin's, advice, which should also apply here:
You can move your iPhoto Library to an external disk:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space. -
How do I move a file from one memory stick to another using mac pro? copy paste doesnt work
Have you tried simply dragging the file from one stick to the other? Do you know the format of the memory sticks (Macs can't write to those formatted as NTFS without the use of third-party software)?

How can I transfer a podcast to memory stick?
I have several Podcasts in iTunes that I would like to keep ( I need to move them I am very short of memory) They are too 'big' to burn to disc, so I would like to put them onto a memory stick/flash drive. I have tried drag and drop, but that does not work!
Any ideas?I use an older iTunes version and I can move podcasts about as files. It may be you are having problems copying to the memory stick. I find I cannot drag from iTunes to a sub-folder on a FAT formatted drive, I have to copy it to the top level of the drive, then move it to a sub-folder, or do it all in Finder.
