Memory to buy UK

Anyone got any suggestions for what RAM to get. Am in UK so can't get Hynix, Apacer, KingMax, Nanya, etc. Anyone know either where to get them in UK or an alternate.
I've currently got Corsair 512MB XMS DDR 3200, but neither stick (singles for testing) worked.
Thanks in advance

I'm wanting to upgrade my memory (I currently have 512 mb, WAY too slow for what I'm using it for. Apparently I have 2 sticks of 256 mb. I'm wanting to upgrade to 2gb, or possible even 4gb if possible. I don't know where I can buy some ram. Apparently there is a specific kind of ram that I need to get, and I don't know what it is, or where to get it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
P.S. I'm going to have the apple store install it for me. I may change my mind though, seeming as a lot of people are saying that it is easy.

Is there a reason that it is limited to 2GB?
The computer was only designed for 2GB and won't start up if more is installed.

it isn't low latency, but meh you can lower the latency yourself and save a few bucks. - I run Corsair XMS 512meg pc2700 ram myself runs NICE.
Remember the msi nforce boards are PICKY with Ram.

  • Memory question (yes, another)

ok, i have ddr memory rated for 200mhz, and the fsb of my processor is 333 mhz.
i was reading a thread on a corsair forum from a guy with my exact motherboard
AND memory, but a slightly lesser processor (a-xp 2500 vs a-xp2800, both barton333)
    he says:
    1. Motherboard is as started above: MSI K7N2 Delta2-LSR
    2. Processor is Athlon XP 2500+ Barton (333 FSB)
    3. CPU multiplier is unlocked so I can alter RAM to 200FSB and lower multiplier to
ensure that speed is the same.
    4. Running Dual Channel mode.
i know a 1:1 ratio is best, but to GET such a ratio, is there any practical difference
    between:
    a) setting the memory to 166 and the ratio (manually) to 1:1
    b) setting the memory to 200 and reducing the multiplier, as he's done.
i assume by multiplier he means the fsb:dram ratio - please correct me if i'm wrong.
    thanks!

Having the cpu multiplier unlocked does nothing to affect the memory speed.
after closer reading, he says he's running at 2.3 ghz, by changing his processor to
    200mhz * 11.  something i definitely don't want to do even with my 2800!
with that in mind, i think he meant in terms of upping the processor to match
the memory (or buying faster memory to match his already oc/d psu) - and my
question is moot, for my purposes. (feel free to delete!)

One thing is the memory, and another thing is the hard disk space. You are telling me that you have 200 GB of free space on the hard disk, but the App Store is telling you that you have to install 2 GB of memory or more on your Mac if you want to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
First of all, open  > About this Mac > More Info, and copy "Model Identifier" here, so we can know what Mac you have got and how much memory you can install.
We recommend to buy the memory in OWC or Crucial (Crucial is cheaper and offers the same compatibility warranty as OWC) because you won't probably have any problem with the memory you buy there

  • How do i install more memory in my macbook air? it only has 4GB

How can i install more memory in my macbook air? it has 4GB only and it keeps telling me my start up disk is full.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
In the case of the MacBook Pro with Retina display and the MacBook Air, memory is soldered into the logic board, so you can't add more memory after buying the MacBook.
However, memory isn't your problem. One thing is the memory and another thing is the hard drive, and you are running out of space in the hard drive, not in memory.
To fix this, just delete files that you don't need, or move them to an external drive, in order to make free space on your MacBook

  • HP ProBook 450 G1 flawless memory upgrade, yet displays invisible SPD/voltage.

So I opted to double my memory after buying this from MicroCenter (the i5 version) and saw it used DDR3L low-latency RAM, so I specifically found the identical brand (crucial) and DDR3L make (also identical) and now have 16GB of dual channel RAM; no errors booting up, no issues within the BIOS, however it seems the RAM I so meticulously purchased and installed has decided to be invisible as far as the rest of my computer is concerned. I believe I had read similar scenarios such as this in the past but none related to my make/model, or at least not without an error.  Here's what I'm seeing, both from Speccy and CPU-Z:  And Speccy is even more confused:  So ... HP, or any forum-goers: any thoughts or ideas?  I'd like to have this piece of my machine's identity back, and am unsure of any adverse effects this may cause as well.  I haven't bothered benchmarking anything to find out and am erring on the side of caution by consulting the masses first. Thanks in advance, Tristatris[at]aol.com

I can't argue with that, what with the level of degree I myself am stumped at.  I don't truly believe it affects performance any, but I can't help but feel disconcerted seeing those empty fields.  I do appreciate the response, it confirms some of my suspicions due to how little sense this truly makes. Thanks much. Ayashi

  • My mac is runnug out of disk space. Do /i need to by external drives?  how much memory should i get

My imac is running out of disk space. I download a lot of media from itunes. The HD movies and TV shows use so  much space. Should I switch to the cloud, clean up my memory or buy an external memory drive? If i get an external drive how much memory is suggesyed? 1TB, 2TB or more?

Buy an external hard drive on which to save your media. The drive should be large enough to handle your entire iTunes Library plus how much you would anticipate adding to the library over the next few years. Then backup your existing library to the external drive: iTunes- Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.
After you have backed up the library to the external drive you can configure iTunes to use the library on the external drive in iTunes > Preferences > Advanced. Change the path to the external drive. Once you do that quit and relaunch iTunes. It should now be using the library on the external drive. Now you can delete the library on the internal hard drive to free up the space.

  • Best memory for 2006 iMac

Hi everyone. I need to buy memory for a late 2006 24" iMac intel core 2 duo (EMC-2111). I've been told this machine can only be brought up to 3 GBs. The first attempt did not go so well. What would be the best memory to buy and from where? Thanks!

I so wish that I'd found this thread before purchasing my memory. As it is I got a 4GB kit from Ramjet.
Are there any strong opinions either way on this?
Also, I have a late 2006 iMac that was supposed to be able to 'take' 4GB, but would only use 3. However when I discussed this with Ramjet I was advised that a firmware update had taken care of that problem and it would now utilize the entire 4.
I know I should have checked more thoroughly before buying the memory, but hindsight etcetera.......
I'd appreciate input on both issues. Thanks.

  • I'm trying to install Word for Mac, but it doesn't contain enough memory.  Any suggestions?, I'm trying to install Word for Mac on my 10.7.4, but there isn't enough memory.  Any suggestions?

I need to install Word for Mac on my MacBook OS X Lion 10.7.4, but there are two problems:  1)  Microsoft sells only Office, not the individual programs, and 2) I don't have enough memory to do so (2 GB).  Any suggesions?  I'm currently using Pages, and it's worthless.  Should I install more memory and buy Office for Mac?  Is there another decent word processing program (preferably downloadable) that will convert my documents to Word?
Thank you so much for your help and suggestions!

I woud buy a 4 GB RAM package and install it.  RAM is cheap these days and the additional RAM would also improve the performance of your other programs as well.  I have used MS Office for Mac as well as other free downloads, i.e., Open Office and Libre Office.  I have found that Open Office anf Libre Office perform just as well as MS Office and, because they are a free download also save you money.  Another advantage is that they also contain a database, which MS Office doesn't have.  They allow you to save files in MS format as well as standard text format.  I ave also used Pages and feel it is satisfactory, although a little clunky to use.  If you feel MS Office is the only program for you, then buy it and install it.  You really should consider adding the additional RAM as it will improve the performance of all your applications.

HI, whats the best brand memory to buy to put in my mac book?

These are good online stores for RAM
    OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/
    Crucial Memory http://www.crucial.com/
    Data Memory Systems http://www.datamemorysystems.com/apple-memory.asp
Also it would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.

  • How to buy intel RAM. How?

How?, meaning, buy now or later, add 1GB to get 1.5GB total, or get 512MB to benefit from DDR. Buy online or store.
Will prices of intel iMac core duo (not core2duo, unless they both use the same type) RAM increase overtime, or lower? I've noticed that RAM for older computers are more expensive than recent comp RAM.
To buy two 1GB's will cost me a lot. So I'm thinking either get a 512MB, or a 1GB. 512MB is cheaper and I'll benefit from having 2 of the same size RAM. The 1GB costs more, but it's more RAM, and costs less if I want to install 2GB total memory.
I find that online prices (particulary US vendors) are cheaper than retail stores in my local area. A lot cheaper. 1GB costs $200 CDN, which is $223 US. It's just that buying from a store is much more assuring than ordering online from US. I think.
Anything else I should consider when buying RAM?
    answers greatly appreciated
    thnx

    Hello,
Don't upgrade the memory online with the Apple Store. It costs more money to buy it from Apple with the computer.
I've saved up to $600 by buying the computer with it's stock memory and buying my memory upgrade elsewhere.
Naturally, the savings depend on Apple's markup at the moment and the average 3rd-party price.
But, right now, I'd still expect you to save a couple hundred dollars buying it separately.
I buy all my memory from:
    http://www.macsales.com
They're a great company. You'll find a lot of supporters here for them.
And, another benefit to buying your computer from Apple without customizing it, is that you can return it for a refund or exchange if it arrives with problems.
If you customize the computer at the time of purchase, you can only get the machine serviced. So, if it is not repaired to your satisfaction, or it just has too many issues, all you can do is keep getting it fixed.
If you buy it stock / unmodified, then you can just pay the re-stocking fee and return it. I've wished I had done that a few times. But, if you upgrade / alter it in any way when you buy it, then it's considered a special order, and you're stuck with it for better or worse.
So, that's another reason to consider buying your memory separately.
    I hope this helps.

  • Expand the Memory

Here's a really newbie question... just bought a new mac pro (4 core if it matters)... with 1GB (2x 512MB) of memory. I'm looking to expand that to a total of 2GB or 3GB depending on the cost. So I'm assuming that I can leave those two 512MB in there and just add a 1GB or 2MB memory in the mac pro as well as the two 512MB one's.
    1) does it matter what memory I buy, is there a set one for the mac pro? How would I know the difference between them all? There are different makes (crucial, kingston, etc), do they all do the same thing?
    2) I'm shaw there's loads of information about this on the web, but while I'm here... "I've recently stepped up and got myself a mac pro, I used to have a mac mini. With the mini mac, you'd have to send it off to get more memory or anything like that. Is the mac pro more user friendly in the fact that you can put the memory, etc, in your self
    Thanks guys and gals

It is easy to open up, install disk drives, memory.
2GB is realistic minimum while 4GB is a nice basic (4 x 1GB) it all depends on what you will use it for, and if you plan to install or need more than 4GB. Which is why I would get at least 2 x 1GB for now.
I found TechWorks to run cooler than Ramjet (another good source) and you are always pretty safe with TechWorks and Crucial.

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64

    Memory 2gb 667mhz
    320gb HHD
I wanted to upgrade my ram in my 6930p Right now I have to temp ram 2gb 667mhz. I want to upgrade to a 800mhz but I don't know how much I should get I wanted 8gb but I'm not going to play much hard core games so this might be to much.
What do you consider to be the best overall memory needed for games and App.

You shouldn't need more than 4gb. You can go to 6 if you want, which is what I'm going to be getting on my new notebook once prices drop a lil for the specs I want. Just make sure that the memory you buy is compatible by looking it up on the site. HP has the best support out there when it comes to product information and drivers.
