Can my HP Pavilion g6-1186sa with 4GB RAM be upgraded to a greater amount of RAM? If so what is the maximum and what type should I use?

According to the product specs it appears your notebook comes with one 4 GB DDR3 memory module.
The specs also indicate it can be upgraded with another 4 GB memory module for a total of 8 GB.
So you need to purchase one 4 GB PC3-10600 memory module for your PC.

Hi,
It is generally best to upgrade using matching modules, but if you wish, you should be able to just install another 4Gb module - you can use an application such as CPU-Z to find the specs of your existing module ( the relevant details can be found under the Memory and Spd tabs ) or an automated System Scanner.

Memory Upgrade for Pavilion DM4-1210TX

Hello,
I have a first gen Pavilion DM4-1210TX running WIndows 7 home on 2GB memory.
The current 2 GB memory is a PC3 10600S. I assume it is a DDR3 at 1333Mhz.
Problem is, I've tried to upgrade by putting in 1 brand new Kingston 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz ram. Of course I took out the original 2GB ram first. The BIOS recognizes the new 8 GB ram.
But all I get is a Blue screen after the starting screen.
I'm told my generation of this laptop is not compatible with all brand new DDR3 memory.
Is this correct? And any reason why?

What is the model of your Kingston RAM ? May be they have same speed but different characteristics. Please try the following vendor (for a similar machine):

HP Pavilion s7720.uk memory upgrade

My parents own a HP Pavilion s7720.uk Desktop PC (opens in new)
Performance is suffering recently as it has become become loaded with software and gbs worth of photos and itunes music. they havent upgraded yet and I think upgrading the memory speed to freshen it up.
I believe that it currently features 1gb of 444mhz pc-4200 Hynix Memory. (Serial - Rx8-PC2-4200U-444-12-HYMP564U64CP8-C4-AB-C--0650--C)
The hp product page for the model states that PC2-4200 MB/sec is supported but I hope it will allow faster?
Ideally, I would like to install 2gb of superior crucial memory, but I am unsure of whether the motherboard will support the faster speed dimms. I already have understood 2gb is the maximum capacity but I hope somebody can tell me what the maximum memory speed it will accept, if that is, it is even an issue? I would hope maybe 667mhz 800mhz of the type PC2-5300 or PC2-6400?
I welcome any suggestions for alternative memory or different upgrades if this is not a particularly great idea. Note they already have an external hd

I can't find a dv5-1198de but I did find a dv5-1198er which should be similiar. It states up to 8 gb of ram. HERE
I would try www.Crucial.com for suggested memory ,you can use their Scanner Tool to let it detect what you have and what you can upgrade/replace with.

HP Pavilion Dm1 Memory upgrade: pc3-10600 versus pc3-8500

Hi,
After researching HP and other various sites, I recently upgraded my HP Pavilion DM1 from 3GB to 4GB RAM using 2 x 2GB PC3-10600 modules. The information I found seemed to indicate that the HP Pavilion would fully support 1333Mhz memory and I thought I could give my Netbook a little performance boost. Note: the price was the same for both the 1066 and 1333 memory modules.
My system is working OK, but I have a number of quick questions:
Although I have installed 1333 Mhz memory, it is been reported as 1066 Mhz via HP tools. Is this the maximum memory speed the Netbook supports and will utilising 1333 Mhz cause performance bottlenecks and long term damage to my system? Can I configure the system via BIOS to utilise the memory at 1333 Mhz?
As I use Windows Home Premium I understand there is a 3.5GB access limit (this is why I only upgraded the system to 4GB). Will the extra 500MB not utilised by Windows be utilised as video memory as I originally hoped or will it come out of the 3.5GB? i.e. in other words, is my 4GB upgrade in reality 3.5GB?

I don't know what exact model dm1 you have, but normally the memory runs at the max speed of the Processor's FSB in the case of Intel processors.
I am not quite sure on how AMD's processors work with regard to memory speed. Something about multipliers.
Did you consult the service manual? Chapter 1 usually provides the processor and memory specs.
No damage will occur to your system if the memory speed is only 1066 MHz.
Nothing can be done to change the speed at which the memory runs (unless there is a BIOS update that addresses an issue--read any BIOS release notes for such a possibility, which I doubt there is).
You can check how your memory is being used in two places:
1. The Resource Monitor (in your system tools menu). In the memory section it will show system reserved, free, etc.
2. The Windows Experience Index's detailed report (Control Panel>system and security>WEI
You can see your video adapter's total memory, shared memory and dedicated memory.

The big issue is the single core Pentium M (aka Centrino) processor, the max of 2 gigs of memory and the Intel GMA900 video which is not capable of Aero desktop effects.
This laptop was not capable of handling Windows Vista, let alone 7, 8, 8.1 and soon, Windows 10. There is just no amount of money you can put into it to make it useable in today's computing environment.
Sorry to have to carry bad news. Any new laptop, even one at the very bottom price point, will blow the dv4000 away.

HP pavilion 500 series, gtx 650 not working

I just got an hp pavilion 500 series computer and put in my 680 watt power supply (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA5751TC9946&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-R... This is the power supply i have) from my old computer but my gtx 650 will not work, my monitor has a no input if i have it plugged into the graphic card but works if i have it in the integrated graphic slot. The computer will also beep 6 times in a row stop then repeat the beeps 5 times if i have the 6 pin connector plugged into the graphics card. The gtx 650 works just fine in my other computer with this same power supply.

Your computer is running Win 8.1 which comes with a UEFI BIOS. It may be that the GTX 650 is not supported by the BIOS. If this is the case, you will have to go into the BIOS and enable the Legacy option.

You have the second best processor an A6-3420M. It would bump you from AMD 6520M to AMD 6620M graphics. It is an APU; the video is built into the processor.
The upgrade of the processor is a major task. I am not sure it will be worth the effort. Gains will not be very large. However, the processor is cheap:

When I run the Windows 8.1 update, there is no internet connection anymore.
I can not really find any driver that it should resolve.

Memory upgrade on iMac G3 700, help with system crashes

I tried to do a memory upgrade on my iMac, so I bought two kingston 256 MB PC133 modules, but none will work, the system starts, but hangs in about two minutes after loading the desktop. I went back to use the older memory module wich is an spectek, but I need the upgrade, any ideas?

The iMac 700 G3 should have been supplied with 1 stick of 256mb ram. However which is the correct type i am not sure as the Apple specifications for this model state PC100 whereas my iMac G3 700 graphite was supplied with 256 MB PC133-333 SDRAM

Apple profiler from my iMac this is the original supplied RAM from Apple:-

Type: SDRAM
Speed: PC133-333
1) I would re-instal the original ram and open system profiler to see what type the ram is.
2) Keeping the original stick in place add another stick of the new ram and look again in profiler to see if its recognised and again try the second stick to see if there's a problem with one of the sticks.
I am currently running my iMac with a small upgrade of RAM and the additional RAM is 128MB of PC100 and i have noticed the performance improvement since adding the PC100 so it's working and i have suffered no ill effects doing this..
