Memory upgrade on the NB550D-11D - 4GB RAM are possible

To anyone who's thinking about a memory upgrade on the NB550D:
The NB550D supports up to 4GB of memory, not only 2GB as mentioned by Toshiba in their specifications.
A memory upgrade to 2GB is _only limited_ by the pre-installed Windows 7 Starter OS, not by the netbook itself.
I'm using Linux Mint 11 Katya, 64bit and my system is running perfectly well with a 4GB ram module. If you want to use full 4 GB ram support, get rid of the Win 7 Starter OS.
The specification for higher volume ram is DDR3 1333MHz PC3-10600 SO-Dimm. I've chosen one 4GB module by Corsair, due to the 30 years warranty Corsair offers.
It took me quite a while to find this out, hope this is going to be a help to everybody who's just as unsecure as I was how to upgrade the NB550D memory. Good luck. ;o)

I can confirm this. Two days ago Ive installed own Win7 32bit Home Premium and upgraded my NB520 with 4GB RAM. 3GB are in usage now and notebook runs perfectly.
With original Win7 Starter version I have noticed annoying display behaviour while watching action movies. When the scene in the movie was without movement everything was ok but by action scenes some strange lines were shown on the screen.
Now after own OS installation everything works perfectly and Im so happy with my NB520.
I can just recommend it for everyday usage.
By the way: I use 4GB SO-DIMM DDR3-1333Mhz PC3-10600

If your restored from a backup and the apps that are missing on the device show "Open" in the App Store, then they are located on other pages on your iPhone or are in folders. Also, with the iOS 7 update most developers have changed icon badging. This can cause some applications to be difficult to find.

At Crucial you enter your exact model and year of machine and it will tell you.
To double check, download the free MacTracker program.
Check under the Apple menu > About this Mac > More information to confirm your exact Mac model.
You might need special tools to open the Mac, check with iFixit and Other World Computing for video, instructions and tools needed.
Remember you might only have two RAM slots available filled with (example) 2 -1GB RAM modules so if you go and buy the less expensive 2 -1GB RAM modules thinking your going to get 4GB your going to be in for quite a shock.
Lot's of first time RAM buyers make this mistake because they only open the machine when the RAM arrives.
It's good to have a plastic compartment to hold each screw and a mat to catch fallen screws, they are extremely tiny and easy to strip the heads so be gentle.
Also follow the anti-static guidelines and ground yourself before working inside, remove the power and the battery cable if possible.
Read your Apple manual too.
If you mess up inside, Apple will not cover it!
It's possible to add more RAM than the Apple manual says because new RAM modules get made after the manual goes to print, so check with MacTracker to see if you can add more RAM that Apple says.

Shellext dlls are not preserved across upgrades, but the programs that installed them are

classic 32 & 64 bit shell extension dlls (%windows%\system32\shellext resp %windows%\syswow64\shellext) are not preserved across system upgrades, yet the programs that installed the extensions are. copying them manually from windows.old is a workaround,
but probably not viable for normal users...

I love macs and mac os but what hard ware is still getting maid by apple, the ata drives and ram are maid by companies like Samson and Toshiba and the processors are maid by intel. do apple still make the logic board or do they just focus on the case.

They are two different accounts - so yes whatever is in your free book - can be delivered to the paid book account.
Obvioulsy if you do that, you may wish to remove teh free book from the iBooks store.
Do this by openeing iTunesConnect > Manage your Books, select the book you want to remove and using Pricing and Territories... removes the book from all 51 stores.
You can never actually delete the book, what you do is "hide" it from the store and it becomes unavavailable online.

2 x 4GB RAM upgrade doesn't work

Hi :-)My touchsmart 600 pc has 2 x 2 GB RAM. I have tried to upgrade it with 2 x 4GB RAM but it's not working. I have tried to only use one 4GB in the pc and end with diffenrent scenaries. The first 4GB block the computer starts up and freeze at the windows startup screen.The second 4GB block the computer comes to windows screen and rebooting over and over.If I put both 4GB blocks in the computer starts up with the blue screen and start rebooting over and over again. If you are sure you have pushed the memory stick in firmly (and you really have to push), and you heard a click, then it is very likely the memory is defective and should be returned. Most companies have a lifetime guarantee on RAM and you should have no problem getting a new stick.

Macbook Pro (late 2008) memory upgrade problem

I have an Macbook Pro (late 2008) 15'' 2.53GHz, 4GB DDR3, GeForce 9400m/9600M GT
4GB ram are by default. I tried to upgrade ram to 8GB, but my MBP doesn't recognize more than 4GB.
At Apple website I found information that maximum supported RAM memory is 4GB (which means that I cannot upgrade my MBP with 8GB of RAM), what isn't ok because it is a Pro machine. Are there some chipset drivers upgrade or BIOS firmware upgrade to let notebook to be able to has 8GB?

Yes, and that same information appeared in the specifications for your machine when you decided to buy it, and also in the owner's manual that came with it. So it's not a surprise — or at least it shouldn't be.
In spite of that information, and without support from Apple, you can put 6GB of RAM into it in the form of one 2GB and one 4GB module.

MS 7309 Memory Upgrade

I have a question regarding a memory upgrade for the MS 7309 (K9)motherboard; A60 BIOS, Upgraded to 800Mhz DDR2 memory from 5400, with WinXp OS. I am experiencing system stability problems with both 2 Gb sticks installed, the system is stable on one stick, total upgrade 4GB. There was initially only 2Gb, 5400 installed.
Should I overclock my system or update the BIOS? And if I need to overclock is there a process or utility to use to do this. The currently installed overclocking center utility does not work, is there an updated one?

Dual 867 MDD won't sleep after memory upgrade

Since yesterday my PowerMac G4 Dual 867 MDD has become insomniac. What changed since yesterday is that I installed an additional 512MB of RAM. So far as memory is concerned, there's the factory-installed 512 Infineon module; a second 512MB Kingston module (installed about a couple of years ago, and has been working fine ever since); and a third 512MB Kingston module (the one I installed yesterday) for a total of 1.5GB.
I am aware that sleeping issues can arise for all sorts of reasons (inc. USB peripherals) but it is pretty obvious that in my case the problem is caused by the memory upgrade.
The symptoms: Once I click Sleep on the Apple menu, I can hear the sound of the hard disks spinning down, but the rest of the box remains fully powered. The screen freezes and the computer has to be manually switched off, as the mouse cursor disappears from the screen and the keyboard becomes completely unresponsive.
So far I have tried the following: I have reset the PRAM (no luck there), and have tried switching memory modules to different sockets (basically, the single remaining free slot). I apologise in advance if that second troubleshooting routine might portray me as an ignoramus; I have a good understanding of things but cannot claim to be an expert.
I am a extremely frequent user of the sleep mode, and this issue has taken away from me all the pleasure that comes with a coveted (and long overdue) memory upgrade. I would deeply appreciate any help in resolving this.

Does T400 can only work with up to 4GB RAM?
Here (http://support.lenovo.com/en_NO/product-and-parts/detail.page?DocID=PD005598), it says 512 MB, 1 GB, 2GB, or 4GB memory.
So if more than 4GB RAM, will it do harm to the hardware of T400? Or just only 4GB will be used, and no any harm?

That doc was probably written when there were not 4GB DIMMs available, or at least being commonly used. T400 will work with any combination of 1GB, 2GB and 4GB DIMMs, up to 8GB total. I tried single 8GB DIMM and it didn't work

Is Mac mini 2.0Ghz +4Gb RAM sufficient for CS4?

I am on a budget and am thinking of buying a 2.0Ghz Mac mini with 4Gb RAM to run Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2 for the next few years. I will be using external HDDs for scratch and photo storage. Up to now I have used a 3.0GHz P4 PC with 2Gb RAM. I work with large numbers of mainly Canon 5D files, occasional weddings/events but mostly fine art. In CS2 I typically use 3-4 fill layers and a similar number of adjustment layers before flattening.
Does the Mac mini with 4Gb RAM have sufficient grunt to permit me to process approx 1800 event images in Lightroom, and to work on fine art images in CS4 where file sizes are typically 75-300Mb before flattening?

Yes, I am happy, it does the job satisfactorily, although with some
reservations:
- I upgraded from CS2 to CS4, and the Mini with 4Gb RAM is not as
fast as I would like when applying filters on large files. However I
can't compare it to CS2 on my old PC as it was older software on a
different OS with less RAM
- the Mini suffered a RAM failure shortly after purchase and had to
be returned under warranty for service. No problems since. Possibly
the RAM sticks were not seated properly but that's just a guess
- I run 2 screens, one a Sony Trinitron CRT and the other an HP
analogue LCD. Occasionally I get a brief flicker on both screens, but
it's infrequent, almost imperceptible and lasts less than a second. I
had to buy adapter connectors for both screens
- sometimes there is a small delay when trying to read/write to the
external daisychained firewire 800 drives, as if they have gone into
standby, but transfer times are good once they get going.
That's all with the problems. It would be very nice if the Mini was a
little faster, but considering the price point, I am quite happy with
the performance. It does the job. I can leave it with a batch
processing run of 1500+ images in CS4 and it works its way through
them reliably while I do other things.
Configuration
- I have 3 external firewire drives daisychained, a Wacom tablet,
keyboard, USB2 card reader, printer and also sometimes a scanner, no
problems with any of these.
- just upgraded to Snow Leopard, but too early to detect any
difference in performance
Pluses
- the Mini is very quiet, and I like being able to use a display of
my choice (gloss screens are too reflective for accurate colour work
with photos).
- it just works
