Memory Used for Saving Files

My IT person is giving me a hard time because I've used 5.5 gigabytes of memory in the 2.5 years that I've worked here design everything from brochures to ads, etc. Does that sound like an unreasonable amount of memory for desktop publishing? His solution is to have me save everything onto 11 discs and have a spreadsheet to determine what projects are on which disk. I have no point of reference - and haven't run into this issue in past jobs. Between saving files in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, PDFs and stock photography, the amount of memory seems reasonable to me. And saving projects on discs sounds cumbersome.

When talking about Memory most people think RAM not hard disk space. 5.5 gigs is a trivial amount of hard disk space to be used for projects in the DTP business. It should take up a trivial amount of space on your hard drive. HOWEVER, all your work if needed should be archived to CDs or DVDs as appropriate. If for nothing else backup. Each project should have its own disks or disks that can be externally marked. BTW, 1 terabyte drives are available for about $100. Tell IT to get a life, get off your back, and buy you a decent sized drive or two.

We are currently in a published desktop environment in Citrix XenApp 6.5. Server is running on Windows 2008 R2. I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful.

User Exit OR Badi for MK01 transaction (used for saving vendor amster data)

I have a requirement where I have to call my workflow, when we create the Vendor using my custom transaction (ZMK01, which is a copy of standard transaction MK01).
For Workflow triggering I am using FM 'SAP_WAPI_CREATE_EVENT' in the user exit 'EXIT_SAPMF02K_001' but this is only for checking the data on saving Vendor Master.
So I want to use FM 'SAP_WAPI_CREATE_EVENT' at right place. For that , I need User-Exit or BADI which is used for saving vendor master data.
Could anyone please help me to find out the user exit or BADI for save event of vendor master data using transaction MK01.

Oracle 11g - Memory used for sorting

Hi everyone,
I would like to know how I could analyze memory used for sorting in Oracle 11g. When I run the below query, it returns 1531381.
select value from v$sysstat where name like 'sorts (memory)';But when I check sort_area_size parameter from v$parameter, it returns 65536. Does it mean my database is using more memory for sorting than sort_area_size. Or is the way I interpret v$sysstat view and sort_area_size wrong? What is the best way to monitor the memory usage for sorting? Thanks in advance.

iOS manages all memory. You should test your app in Instruments to be sure it is playing nice.

Actually, it's not written into the GUI for the app. That's just where Windows looks (to oversimplify a lot) if you don't tell it where to look. It's intended to be the default for all apps.

Other is usually around 1 GB...
A ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup...
But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup...
Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

Newer versions of Photoshop ships with Adobe Bridge for Organizing image files. However your not required to use it. You can also use LightRoom or system utilities like Windows File explorer and Mac Finder. Photoshop itself uses System dialogs to access your file systems files. When Photoshop display an Open or Save dialog to you in all probability its a Windows or Mac System dialog. Photoshop versions may also have some internal Photoshop Dialogs programed by Adobe for accessing your systems file systems.

The amount of memory used for data is a lot larger than the saved file size why is this and can I get the memory usage down without splitting up the file?

I end up having to take a lot of high sample rate data for relativily long periods of time. When I save the data it is usually over 100 MB. When I load the data for post-processing though the amount of memory used is excessively higher than the file size. This causes my computer to crash because 1.5 GB is not enough. Is there a way to stop this from happening withoput splitting up the file into smaller files.

LabVIEW can efficiently handle large files, far beyond 100Mb, provided that care is taken in the coding of the loading/processing routines. Here are several suggestions:
1) Check out the resources National Instruments has put together (NI Developer Zone > Development Library > Measurement and Automation Software > LabVIEW > Development System > Optimizing Applications > Managing Memory), specifically the article entitled "Managing Large Data Sets in LabVIEW".
2) Load and process the data in chunks if possible.
3) Avoid sending the data to front panel indicators, using local/global variables for data storage, or changing data types unless absolutely necessary.
4) If using LabVIEW 7.1, use the "show buffer" tool to determine when LabVIEW is creating extra
copies of data in memory.

How do I find out which mimetype qbittorent uses to preview a file when I right-click on a downloaded/-ing torrent and select "preview file"? It is definitely not application/x-directory, can someone tell me which it is and how I can figure this out myself in the future?
My problem is previewing opens in Firefox as a "file://" url, but I want this to be handled by vlc or rox...

I am going to answer my own question here:
The mime type somehow is in the file so it is not the app that says "use mime type x on this file" but it's rather "use whatever mime type is associated with this file". To see a mime type of a file called test.mp4 use this command:
$ xdg-mime query filetype test.mp4
In my example I got this:
audio/mp4; charset=binary
Now we set the mime-type, in my example I want to use rox to handle this file, and then configure rox to use vlc:
xdg-mime default rox.desktop audio/mp4
Since I already set the default action for that file in rox with a right-click and then using "vlc" as the command, this now works beautifully.
If you are wondering, setting the default app for a mime type will edit the file
~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list
and add the following for this magic to work:
[Default Applications]
audio/mp4=rox.desktop
On a side note, does anyone else feel that freedesktop.org's documentation really blows? Isn't all of the above supposed to be explained for example here? http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifi … -info-spec

The first time I open firefox memory used is about 58000k. and an increase of approximately 122000k +. is this normal? if not what is normal memory used for firefox?

That depends upon the homepage you have set, but with the default about:homepage you should see like 60,000 Kb with Firefox 7.

Downloading JAR for temporary in-memory use or saved to local system?

I would like to be able to download and create a .jar file in memory, without writing it to disk, as an "option". My app should allow the user to reference an http://file.jar that gets "created" in memory on the client for temporary use, or they can optionally specify to download it and save it as a .jar file. I can't seem to find much info on either.
For the first case, basically, each time the app runs it should get the .jar file from the location specified, but without actually creating it on disk. Is it possible to download the binary of a .jar file from a web server and create it in memory so that it can be used? Or does it have to be stored on the local file system? If so, then I suppose I could use a "temporary" on disk .jar file, then delete it.
For the latter, how is a .jar file downloaded and saved to the local system?
