Memory used?

After I create an iMovie and, from it, a DVD, I trash the 2 files but my hard drive memory still does down .05GB. What other files do iMovie and iDVD create? I'd like to delete them also (as I finish) since I'm making lots of movies and don't want to waste disk space--even if only by this small amount.

Did you hear about the lawsuit regarding this:
No, but if I join the class action and we win, will Apple send me a coupon good for .05GB?!!
Total Capacity :232.9 GB (250,059,350,016
Bytes)
That's my 250GB Seagate main drive expressed two
different ways these days. Got that from Disk

High memory use when checking downloads folder through browser.
    I have a total of 3 DDR2 Gbytes of ram. Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4500 @ 2.30GHz Win 7 home pr. 64bit. Firefox 27.0 beta
I right click on a file to "open containing folder" from the drop down menu in downloads.
When the folder has been opened, explorer is trying to index the folder (which it never does completely or well after 5 minutes I close the folder and shut down the dllhost process cause laptop is blazing hot) and memory keeps increasing till no more is available.
I checked task manager and see that dllhost is the particular process that is causing the spike in memory usage even after closing the folder I right click and stop the process and memory is restored after awhile.

Does anyone know how to display (in LabVIEW) the memory use during execution of an image and data acquisition VI to predict when it is time to cease the acquisition to prevent the program crashing?
I am acquiring images and data to a buffer on the edge of the while loop, and am finding that the crashing of the program is unpredictable, but almost always due to a memory saturation when the buffers gets too big.
    I have attached the VI.

  • CFMX 6.1's Virtual Memory Use problem!!

I appologise for the long post in advance...
Ok... so I have this script that, using cfdirectory, will
check a directory for any files that may have been uploaded, if
there are files, it loops through the results and reads the files
one at a time, line by line, using the FileReader.cfc (Uses the
Java FileInputStream, InputStreamReader, and BufferedReader to
provide a way to incrementally read large files). The files are
just pipe "|" delimited data, each line represents a record for a
    db table.
Now as it's reading each line, it will perform some basic
string parsing to clean up the file line to make sure the data is
valid, blah blah blah and then it will write that "cleaned" line to
another file using FileWriter.cfc (Java component once again). Once
it's completely done reading the original file, it will close it
and it will open the new "cleaned" version of the file, read it
(FileReader.cfc), create an INSERT statement and then update the
    database table.
Now... this all works GREAT... until it has to loop through
more than a few files... 3 - 4 files are NO problem! works like a
charm, but throw 6 - 8 files at it and it dies, not a timeout mind
you but an actual "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError" (now, I've tried
making all the files exactly the same (just changed the name) and
the weird thing is, it takes longer and longer to process each as
it goes through the loop... I have the script write some stats as
    it's looping:
    FILE 1 STATS
    Name: COA0607_Intranet1.DAT
    Status: Import Successfull
    Line Count: 32,971
    Processing Time: 74,237ms
    FILE 2 STATS
    Name: COA0607_Intranet2.DAT
    Status: Import Successfull
    Line Count: 32,971
    Processing Time: 82,018ms
    FILE 3 STATS
    Name: COA0607_Intranet3.DAT
    Status: Import Successfull
    Line Count: 32,971
    Processing Time: 94,476ms
    FILE 4 STATS
    Name: COA0607_Intranet4.DAT
    Status: Import Successfull
    Line Count: 32,971
    Processing Time: 145,108ms
I know what you guy are probably thinking; "Woah man... CF
isn't really meant to do that kind of processing...", I know, trust
me I know... however, I really neeeeeed it too lol.
Ok, so as the script is running, I watch the Virtual Memory
use of jrun.exe, processing say 3 - 4 of these files brings up the
usage to approx 300,000k which yes, is a LOT but that's fine...
this process is meant to run at night via a Scheduled Task...
When I run more than 4 files, things start to get ugly, keep
in mind that these are EXACTLY the same files just re-named
differently. The script will start lagging BIG time and on the last
file (usually the last file) I'll see the memory usage spike from
350,000K all the way up to 600,000K and that's when it throws the
"java.lang.OutOfMemoryError" and dies... I've tried commenting out
the part of the script that updates the db, but still get the same
    problem...
So... what gives? How come CF Server does this??? I mean, it
runs fine for the first few files... and then WAM, it dies... sorry
for the long post... any insight here is VERY much appreciated...
it would be AWESOME if the wonderful folks at Adobe could shed some
light on this for me : )

  • Oracle 11g - Memory used for sorting

    Hi everyone,
I would like to know how I could analyze memory used for sorting in Oracle 11g. When I run the below query, it returns 1531381.
select value from v$sysstat where name like 'sorts (memory)';But when I check sort_area_size parameter from v$parameter, it returns 65536. Does it mean my database is using more memory for sorting than sort_area_size. Or is the way I interpret v$sysstat view and sort_area_size wrong? What is the best way to monitor the memory usage for sorting? Thanks in advance.

    check the valuse of pga_aggregate_target
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams157.htm
    Note:
Oracle does not recommend using the SORT_AREA_SIZE parameter unless the instance is configured with the shared server option. Oracle recommends that you enable automatic sizing of SQL working areas by setting PGA_AGGREGATE_TARGET instead. SORT_AREA_SIZE is retained for backward compatibility.
What is the best way to monitor the memory usage for sorting? try v$sort_usage
    or v$tempseg_usage
    col sid_serial for a44
    col size for a22
    col SID_SERIAL for a22

  • Is there any limitation of memory uses for apps in iPad2 or iPad3 ?

    Hi,
Is there any limitation of memory uses for apps in ipad2 or ipad3 .For example an application can use 10% or 20% of available memory , is there anything like that or the apps can use the total available memory or like 90% of it ?
I want to know about the memory distribution to the apps in ios .
Would anyone suggest a right way ?
    Thanks

iOS manages all memory. You should test your app in Instruments to be sure it is playing nice.

  • The amount of memory used for data is a lot larger than the saved file size why is this and can I get the memory usage down without splitting up the file?

I end up having to take a lot of high sample rate data for relativily long periods of time. When I save the data it is usually over 100 MB. When I load the data for post-processing though the amount of memory used is excessively higher than the file size. This causes my computer to crash because 1.5 GB is not enough. Is there a way to stop this from happening withoput splitting up the file into smaller files.

LabVIEW can efficiently handle large files, far beyond 100Mb, provided that care is taken in the coding of the loading/processing routines. Here are several suggestions:
    1) Check out the resources National Instruments has put together (NI Developer Zone > Development Library > Measurement and Automation Software > LabVIEW > Development System > Optimizing Applications > Managing Memory), specifically the article entitled "Managing Large Data Sets in LabVIEW".
    2) Load and process the data in chunks if possible.
    3) Avoid sending the data to front panel indicators, using local/global variables for data storage, or changing data types unless absolutely necessary.
    4) If using LabVIEW 7.1, use the "show buffer" tool to determine when LabVIEW is creating extra
    copies of data in memory.

  • Understanding Solaris 10 memory use

Hi - does anyone know of a decent, easy to understand guide on understanding the above? I have a T4-1 Solaris 10 DB2 server with "top" installed that shows around 4G of free memory out of 64G real. But vmstat shows around 30G of free memory. The only thing running on the server is a single non-global zone that has memory capped at 32G - so I'm trying to figure out why "top" is showing so much used memory? I use Cacti to graph memory usage and this has crept up over a month or so. Swap used as far as top / Cacti is concerned has remained at 11G pretty much since the server was last rebooted.
    vmstat:
kthr memory page disk faults cpu
r b w swap free re mf pi po fr de sr s4 s5 s6 s7 in sy cs us sy id
    0 0 0 86960112 32143992 26 74 0 0 0 0 0 -0 23 13 -0 1448 939 1179 0 0 100
    So free is ~30G
    top:
Memory: 64G real, 3197M free, 11G swap in use, 55G swap free
Any help would be appreciated, thanks - Julian.

In general, I tend to be as confused at the array of different values you get from memory statistics as anybody. Clearly, different tools are most likely measuring different things with respect to memory usage and the values aren't necessarily comparable. It is often hard for those of us in the field to determine what these tools are actually measure. However, what you're describing as top's free memory value sounds like the size of the free list. Years ago I remember reading something about this. Let me tray to explain it - hopefully, someone more knowledgeable than I can correct it if I get it wrong.
To put it simply, empty memory is a waste - you might as well have something loaded in case you need it later. So when you load something into memory, you don't throw it away until you know you need the space for something else. However, you have to have be able to grab memory quickly, so you plan ahead and keep a list of memory pages you can reuse at a moment's notice. The "free memory" size if the size of this list - the memory which is free to be reused at a moment's notice.
It works like this. Initially, the free list is everything the OS isn't using. As the system runs, the memory get used and the free list gets smaller and smaller. Eventually, it reaches a high water mark which causes the kernel to run an internal task to look for more memory which can be freed if needed. This process works until it adds enough memory to the free list to reach a low water mark. So, at boot time you have a lot of free memory which slowly gets consumed. Once it reaches a certain point, the kernel maintains free memory between the high and low water marks. This sounds like what you describe. The memory use creeps up and then stays high.

    Ringtones 567.5 KB
    Pictures 48.9 MB
    Videos 209.1 MB
    Documents 121.1 MB

    Free 60.3 MB
    Any help would be appreciated.

Go to the Media > Explore > Media Card and see what folders you have installed there other than the routine Pictures, Music,  Video, etc... for instance I have some third apps which create new folders and store data there (CardStar, flycast, ShowMeTheImages, Themes, Fixmo Screenshots, Databases.
The "other" space is likely occupied by such as that.

  • How to deallocate memory used by the labview program?

    Hi,
I have bulit a large application in labview 2012 that uses a couple of subvis, local and global variables, some uninitialized shift registers (functional global variables) and some c++ and .net dlls as well. When I open my application the memory usage shown at Windows task manager is around 1.4GB. After running the application and enabling all processes used in the application, the memory usage goes up to 1.55GB but when i stop the application, memory is never released/deallocated until i close the application plus exit labview. Can you suggest how to deallocate this memory? and how can i use the request deallocation function for this application? labview help says i have to place it inside a subVI for which i want to deallocate memory. But i have a lot of subVIs used in my application. I tried placing it in the top level VI and called it after stopping all processes but it didn't work... I am also closing references to all of the .net dlls at the end. Any workarounds??
    Thanks

You already got some good advice. One thing that was not clear was how you are measuring memory. Since the task manager is capable of showing the memory used by LabVIEW alone (you simply need to look elsewhere), and you said that the memory gets released when you exit LabVIEW, you gave the impression that the 1.4GB was the LabVIEW portion.
OK, so a couple of hundred MB used by LabVIEW is really nothing to worry about. Are you running into memory or other performance problems? What are the symptoms?

We really need to see some code. It is very well posssible that you have a lots of unecessary data copies in memory due to sloppy programming. How big are the data structures? Do you use local variables for big data structures? What does the program actually do?

  • Memory used by unknown processes

    Hey all,
I have a serious problem on my 2008 model macbook running snow leopard 10.6.8 with 4GB of memory
Used memory continuosly grows even though no work is being done (i.e. no application opened).
It gets to a point where free memory goes almost to zero and only then system apparently frees some of it.
Using free memory app I can free memory manually but still after freeing, free memory continue to decline.
What really bothers me is that the sum of all memory used by processes (from both activity monitor and ps command) does not sum up to total used memory.
Can some "invisible" process be using my memory? or ps/activity monitor outputs are not correct?

Not exactly sure what you mean.
Here's output from top (the header):
    Processes: 74 total, 3 running, 1 stuck, 70 sleeping, 535 threads                                                        13:40:42
    Load Avg: 0.36, 0.22, 0.35  CPU usage: 8.33% user, 41.66% sys, 50.0% idle    SharedLibs: 5888K resident, 8800K data, 0B linkedit.
    MemRegions: 13884 total, 1746M resident, 28M private, 380M shared.
    PhysMem: 590M wired, 2219M active, 1025M inactive, 3834M used, 261M free.
VM: 178G vsize, 1043M framework vsize, 738071(0) pageins, 235(0) pageouts. Networks: packets: 660846/677M in, 332007/37M out.
    Disks: 327320/5791M read, 154559/5840M written.
And here's the sum of RSS from ps:
    # ps -axm -o "rss,comm"|grep -v COMM|awk 'BEGIN{a=0}{a+=$1}END{print a}'
    2537976
As you can see, top reports 3834MB as used, while sum of RSS from ps shows ~2.5GB

  • About the amount of hard disk memory used during Testdrive installation

    Dear all,
I have a question about installing SAP Netweaver Testdrive on Redhat Linux Enterprise 5.3. Currently I have a virtual machine (sun virtualbox) where Windows Vista is host and the guest operating system is RHLE 5.3 (32 bit). For doing several tests I would like to install the Testdrive on this linux system. Yet, the total available virtual hard disk memory is about 15 GB and I have already used more than 6GB.
Is there any way to specify the amount of hard disk memory used by Netweaver once it installs DB2 on the system? Because as it seems to me it takes more than 15 GB just for the database. But I'm not sure whether the whole space is really needed, particularly in my case where the aim of use is just for ABAP development and tests (for self-training).
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind Regards,
    Dariyoosh

    Hi,
You can refer the specific installation guide for the minimum disk space requirement.
Whatever functionality you use you need minimum space as mentioned in the installation guide.
You can configure slightly more memory than given in the installation guide to be safer.
