Menu bar icons not scrolling

After updating my retina MBP to OS X 10.9.2, the menu bar no longer "scrolls" along the icons. For example, if I press the wifi icon and move the arrow over the battery icon, the battery drop down menu doesn't come up. Instead I have to manually press it, wich I find annoying!! Is there anyway of sorting this?

  • Menu bar icons not showing up at retina resolution

I've been experiencing this for a while now. Some menu bar icons will now show up at retina resolution on my Macbook Pro Retina.
    Here's a screenshot to show what I mean: http://d.pr/i/IUMM
Only Twitter and Notification center are in retina resolution. If I relaunch them, some apps will show the icon at retina resolution (see here: http://d.pr/i/uMDu )
Anyone have any idea what causes this or if it's been reported already?
    I'm on a 2012 MBPr 15" running OSX 10.9

Have you solved this yet?  Perhaps trashing the preference file for the menubar would solve this?  Go to the preferences folder-- /Library/Preferences --and trash this file:
    com.apple.systemuiserver.plist

  • Tool/Menu bar icons not active - Acrobat in BROWSER

I have installed the SP1 update of windows 7.  I have the latest version of Acrobat 10. I also have the latest version EXPLORER (9) & FIRE FOX (4).  The PDF file comes into the BROWSER & the Acrobat icons (print, save) show up on the tool/menu bar but are not active.  The commands are active with the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON.
Also, links to other web sites (URL's) within the PDF document are not active.  ie. Does not LINK.
If I force ACROBAT to open as an independent program everything works OK.

  • Menu bar icons vanished and iPod not showing up in iTunes anymore

All menu bar icons on the right side (keyboard, clock, battery) vanished.
It's not possible to get them back by mark their visability in the system configuration. The system just ignores any attempt to do that (I can mark the check box, but nothing appears on the menu bar; after leaving and returning to the panel, the mark has gone).
Besides of that, my iPod doesn't show up in iTunes anymore (but does on the desktop).
My laptop may be physically damaged as it fell down to the floor a few days ago.
    Can anybody help?

Have you run the Apple Hardware Test and also Repair Disk?
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu for Panther, or Utilities for Tiger, on the Menubar at the top of the screen.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
8.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
9.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
10.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.
Repeat steps 5 & 6, but select the Hard Drive this time. It's usually the first listed with the manufacturer's model number.
Make note of the S.M.A.R.T. status.

  • Menu bar icons keep moving/scrolling/flashing

Not sure exactly how to describe the problem concisely.  The menu bar icons appear, then disappear, and then only two icons reappear (OpenDNS and VirusBarrier), then they disappear and the sequence starts again.
Computer is a Mac Mini with Snow Leopard and is up to date.  Thinking that it might be simply that I had too many icons for the real estate on my smallish monitor, I tried removing menu icons to make room by unticking their boxes in some of their system preferences and also be dragging them off the menu bar with command-drag, but problem will not go away. Rebooting did not solve the problem either. I have also repaired permissions.  Any suggestions are welcome.

    Corrupted .plist file.
Get yourself OnyX for OS X, it will come in handy for that and other things that go bump in the night.

  • How do I get rid of the menu bar icon on Mac OS?

The Creative Cloud menu bar icon on Mac OS is pretty much useless since I already have icons for all the apps and don't use Adobe Cloud storage. Anyone know how to get it off my menu bar? The menu bar is MY space. I ought to have control over what goes there. If every application starts dumping stuff there it will quickly become a mess. I want the option to turn this off.
    Thanks!

Most videos play "inline", not full screen, on Safari on iPad.  You can use a quick "reverse pinch" gesture (as if you were zooming in, but more of a quick flick than a slow zoom) on top of the video to make it full screen.

  • HT1199 Menu bar will not display time

My menu wsuddenly no longer displys time and other things on the top right of the menu bar. I have gone in and reset time and even locked it but still does not display time and is then unlocked when I return to try again.
    Help!

    Hello Riley,
    Apple Menu Bar Icons Gone...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
You've probably got a couple of corrupt preference files.
Move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences>com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
    /Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost>com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist
where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
    Reboot.
This will reset your Menu Bar to the default, you'll need to go through System Preferences to reset the ones you need. (If they are already checked, uncheck them first and then recheck them).

  • Menu bar icons slow to appear on startup

Of late, when I boot up my MBP, everything comes up quickly except the menu bar icons, which take forever to show up. After that, everything works fine. The only icons that need to load are Airport status, battery status, bluetooth, and date/time. The machine's not usable til these icons appear. They used to show up really fast. Sometimes on startup, they appear, then disappear, then reappear after about 45 seconds. This is not correct startup behavior. Anyone else experience this? It's only an annoyance, but it's driving me crazy.

Try deleting the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. This will return things to the factory default.

  • Firefox 4: the drop down menus in the top menu bar will not appear in Google pages.

    ''locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/808729''
Firefox 4: the drop down menus in the top menu bar will not appear in Google pages. For example, when I click "more" it is like clicking a dead link. Nothing happens. When I click the "tools" icon or my email address to log out, same thing.

Could you do the following please.
In the location bar at the top, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter
In the filter at the top, copy/paste the following setting:
    '''browser.urlbar.maxRichResults'''
If the figure on the right is a single number, or a minus figure i.e. '''-1''', right click it, choose '''Modify''', remove the current setting and replace it with the figure "'''12'''".
Then close Firefox and restart it again.
I went to Google Maps, but as you can see from the screenshot, directions appear to be working.

  • Menu Bar Icons

I am having a problem with my system menu bar icons on my MacBook Pro. If I click on for example wifi and try moving over to volume it will not auto select volume. I need to click on volume. In Safari this does appear to be an issue if I click on file and move over to edit it autoselects edit. It only appears to effect the system icons (Time Machine, Bluetooth, Wifi, Volume, Time, etc.) On my Macbook Air it autoselects the system icons without a problem.
I tried force quitting SystemUIServer and it will fix this issue and auto select the system icons, but once I restart my computer the issue reappears again...
I think something must be corrupt I tried cleaning out the plist files but it had no effect... Is there some other setting I need to try adjusting somewhere?
    Thanks!

    I don't believe I do.
If I go to my name on the menu bar and switch user and log right back in as myself it resolves itself too. If I force quit systemuiserver it will fix it too. It must be something when booting up that is causing the error.
Is there another plist file I am using besides systemuiserver.plist?

  • Menu bar icons are gone

Since the security update my menu bar icons have dissappeared. I have tried repairing and verifying disc permissions. I have looked for a preference file but have not been ale to find one. Fast user switching, Time and date, Aiport status, Spotlight, have all dissapeared, However, Salling Clicker still shows up.

  • I can no longer rearrange menu bar icons..... Please help!

Only the apple native icons (airport, BT, battery, etc) will allow to be arranged when I hold down the apple command key and drag. Previously, I could move norton AV, Weatherpop, etc. Is there a prefs file that I need to trash and rebuild or a 3rd party application that needs to be reinstalled in order for all of my menu bar icons to allow to be rearranged?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Because of the problems between Spotlight, SystemUIServer and menu bar extras I had to minimize the number I run, so I just use wClock, Scripts and Input menus. Since wClock is third party it can't be moved, I want it next to the Spotlight icon, then the Scripts menu and then the Input menu. The only way I found to get this to happen was remove everything, then turn on wClock, restart, then add the Apple ones. However, with depressing regularity after a shutdown the next restart would have them rearranged. I discovered that when that happened I could launch Activity Monitor and use it to force quit SystemUIServer, whereupon the arrangement would go back to what it had been. I would guess about 1 in 3 restarts it does not display in the order I had at shutdown.
    Francine
PS--I noticed in another post you have APE installed. Since you aren't using any of Unsanity's haxies I would uninstall it. The balance of menu extras is chancy enough as it is, the fewer things messing about with SystemUISever, the better.

  • How to eliminate unwanted menu bar icons?

When I installed all the software for my new Canon MP640 printer-copier-scanner it put a "Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector" icon in the menu bar. It doesn't seem to do much - and I really don't want another nanometer of space taken-up by unwanted menubar icons... Does anyone know how to remove this?
    Thanks!

OK the cmd-drag didn't work - I had tried that but appreciate the suggestion!
As to your suggestion: In Accounts I find a Login program called *Canon IJ Network Scanner* (checked to be hidden) - and it is in /Library/Printers/Canon/IJScanner/Utilities/Canon IJNetwork Scanner Selection. OK but if I remove this from the login - will it remove just the menu bar icon or will I then lose the ability to use my MP640 as a scanner?
When I open the program by double-clicking it, I get the same screen as when I choose it from the menu bar. I just don't want this menubar "icon" taking up real estate --
The HELP says this: (The icon itself does not show in this paste so I just put in underlines__- it is the image of a printer with the top opened and an arrow indicating a scan direction or something.
    About Menu
Click__in the menu bar to display the menu.
Scan the images using the operation panel of the scanner
You can select or deselect this option. Select this option to receive images from the scanners selected in the settings screen. Deselect this option to not to receive images from the scanners.
    Note
When Scan the images using the operation panel of the scanner is not selected, the icon appears gray (__ ).
About Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector
Displays information on Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector.
    Open Settings...
    Opens the settings screen.

  • MBP Retina: menu bar icons smoothness problem

    Hello everyone,
I recently switched to MBP Retina 2013, this is my first Mac and despite some software problems, I am loving it!
Here's my question/problem: sometimes (did not notice any logic when it happens) my menu bar icons lose their retina smoothness and look bad. Screenshot below shows how it looks. Notifications icon on the right is good, but spotlight and the others very bad, including date & time. Menu bar text items on the left (non icons) look fine.
Does anyone know what's causing this problem and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

Hard to troubleshoot if it does it sometimes.
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.
