Menu bar is partially hidden

I have a partially hidden menu bar that just happened recently. No idea what caused the change.

  • Time Machine icon in Menu Bar is partially missing

    I was deleting some preference files the other day and I seem to have deleted something that I shouldn't have.  It has cause a small graphical error in the user interface.
    When Time Machine is not backing up, the icon in the menu bar looks like this:
    There is no circle around the clock hands.
    If I click on it or TM starts backin up, it disappears entirely:
    Anyone know how to fix this, other than a full system reinstall?
    If I have deleted those actual files, then if I know where they are then I should be able to use TM to fix its own icon by going back to retrieve them.
    I have restarted the Dock and Fidner, rebooted and no dice.  This is system wide because it is a problem on my other user account as well.
    Thanks in advance

    Fixed problem by upgrading to Lion...

  • Active window bar, menu bar missing or hidden

    Today after opening a PDF, my active window bar (at the top) and the Acrobat menu bar wouldn't display. It's Acrobat 9.5.5. Instead of giving me the normal active window bar and menu bar, it would give a gray Acrobat buttons menu. Each time I get it back to normal via F9, it doesn't stay that way. It's extremely frustrating. I cannot find any preference setting to fix this back to normal for good. Please help. Thanks.

    Hi Jack,
    Do you have Kaspersky Antivirus software installed?
    Please update Kaspersky (KIS 2015) to its latest version 15.0.1.415 and that should fix the issue.
    Refer the Kaspersky forum thread: http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=307391&hl=Adobe

  • F-menu bar buttons partially visible. How to remove bar?

    The system comes with a menu bar for the F-key functionalities. By moving mouse pointer to top of screen, it appears. I cannot seem to find out where I can uninstall og disable this annoying bar. It looks like a software error when it's not used. A small line of the buttons are visible and it irritates me. Help me how to remove, please?

    Hi
    I think you mean the Toshiba Vista FlashCards.
    The FlashCards controls the FN buttons and if you want to use the FN buttons I would not recommend removing it from the operating system.
    If dont want to use this tool then you could disable it in:
    Programs Toshiba - Utilities Toshiba FlashCard settings
    Hope this helps.
    A feedback would be appreciated

  • Can the desktop menu bar be hidden?

    I would like for the menu bar to be hidden until I want to use it, i.e. mouse over it to make it appear.  Can this be done?

    Here's an article that describes how to get the menu bar behaviour that the OP wanted (i.e., hiding until mouse-over) on an application-by-application basis. It requires nothing more than Xcode to be installed (which is free from Apple in the App Store) and a bit of Property List editing (which is what you need Xcode for).
    http://lifehacker.com/5280456/hide-your-mac-menu-bar-and-dock-for-a-cleaner-desk top
    The article's a little old, but I just tested it with TeXShop in Mavericks and the method worked perfectly.

  • HT1848 Menu Bar is hidden by default.

    It would be helpful if this article stated that the you will have to hit CTRL+ B to show the menu bar  that contains the "FILE" Menu button. (the menu bar is default hidden itunes when you update to the newest version)

  • Is there any way to hide the menu bar?

    I've been trying to find out if there's a way to hide the menu bar unless the mouse pointer is pushed up to the upper edge of the screen, I know there are third-party applications that let you do this (Menufela which uses Application Enhancer that I prefer to avoid as it is causes more problems than it solves as far as I'm concerned), I also know that it's possible to write applications that cause the menu bar to exhibit this behaviour while they're focused.
    But what I'm looking for is a way to make it behave this way all the time without installing Application Enhancer and having to deal with all the headaches that come with it.

    It does seem odd that you can't get the menu bar to hide itself though, I seem to recall something about editing certain files in .app directories to make it hide itself on an app-by-app basis.
    To hide the menu bar for a single application, you need to modify the Info.plist, as described -> here <-.
    This will work on nearly every application. Only on a very few applications it will cause incorrect behaviour, mainly Finder.app.
    So a simple way to realise your wishes, is to create an Applescript, that will "hide and unhide" the menubar for a couple of apps at one time.
    Here a demonstration example: Choose one or more apps. Menu bar will be hidden/unhidden:
    <pre style="
    font-family: 'Courier New', Courier;
    font-size: 12px;
    line-height: 1;
    border: 2px solid #1E90FF;
    width: 700px; height: 200px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #F5FFFA;
    overflow: auto;">
    on run
    set xyz to choose file default location (path to "apps" as alias) with multiple selections allowed without invisibles
    repeat with i in xyz
    set appName to name of (get info for i)
    if appName ends with ".app" then set proName to text 1 thru -5 of appName
    tell application "Finder"
    try
    if exists (process proName) then
    set x to display dialog "Is " & "\"" & proName & "\"" & " still running? If so, please quit it now!" buttons {"Cancel", "Quit it!", "No! Not running!"} default button 2 with icon 0
    end if
    end try
    end tell
    try
    if button returned of x is "Quit it!" then
    tell application appName
    quit
    end tell
    end if
    end try
    try
    ((i as Unicode text) & "Contents:Info.plist") as alias
    set infoPlist to quoted form of POSIX path of ((i as Unicode text) & "Contents:Info")
    try
    do shell script "defaults read " & infoPlist & " LSUIPresentationMode"
    do shell script "defaults delete " & infoPlist & " LSUIPresentationMode"
    on error
    do shell script "defaults write " & infoPlist & " LSUIPresentationMode -int 4"
    end try
    end try

  • Locking Menu Bars

    Is there a way to lock the menu bars on a form?  I have set the menu bars to be hidden on intial view of a contractual form, in an effort to force the sales associates to use buttons that I created which tell them when a required field is not filled in.  This worked for a while, but now the sales associates have figured out how to unhide the menu bars and are still sending in incomplete forms.  Is there some way to gray out certain fields in the menu bars (i.e. Attach to E-mail)?  I would like to be able to secure this form to the point where it cannot be submitted without all required information.

    You may be able to do what you want in Javascript (check with the Acrobat Scripting forum). But you may end up with fewer forms, if they cannot submit their forms. Why not implement a check to make sure your required fields are filled out, before allowing submission of the form. Better than submitting the file by email, require submission on the web or on a local server. Setup the check for missing fields is easier in this context and removes the problem of saving the pdf files which generally has a 500 use restriction.

  • Spotlight menu hidden behind menu bar in Leopard when "Show Desktop" Expose

    The Spotlight menu is partially hidden behind the menu bar in Leopard when using "Show Desktop" (part of Expose). I tried using "Show Desktop" with keyboard shortcut keys and screen corners, and this behavior still exists. I tried toggling Spaces on and off, and the behavior still exists.
    This has been an issue since day one of using Leopard, and on every bootup. It's absolutely reproducible, and this is a bug, unless someone can prove me wrong? (Hopefully, I'm wrong.)

    Fixed in 10.5.2.

  • Many of my photos appear briefly as I scroll down the page then disappear leaving a box outlined with a broken-line.  The menu bar says that I have 300 pictures hidden, but I am unable to get them unhidden.

    I am experiencing difficulty with iPhoto '11.  Some of more recent photos can not be accessed.  As I scroll down the page of photos, the most recent ones appear briefly, then disappear to be replaced with a box outlined by a broken-line.  The menu bar says that I have 317 photos hidden.  Hiding photos is not something that I normally do, can't imagine why these are hidden.  Anyway, when I try to unhide the photos, I can view them as an event, but if I click on a single photo, or try to move it into an album, the photo does not display.  Instead I get a dark exclamation point within a triangle.  Another problem with these same photos is on the event page there is no key photo for these events only a dark screen.  I can't find an answer to my problem.  Has anyone experienced this?  What is the problem and how can I correct it?

    The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Adobe applications hidden underneath Apple OS X menu bar. I can't move the application window.

    I cannot move the Photoshop application window. It is stuck/hidden underneath of the Apple OS X menu bar. I can't see the maximize, minimize, etc buttons and I cannot grab the frame of the window to drag it around the screen. Extremely frustrating. I've tried reseting the the window, quitting the application and re-opening it, logging off/shutting down and rebooting, etc. Nothing works. Maddening.
    Help appreciated.

    Glad to see this solution still works. Thanks robrevel2
    NOT glad to see that this is still a problem under OS X 10.9.5 - I assume this continues to exist in Yosemite. It's great to see new features, but come on, how about some functional stability? I still occasionally lose the ability to toggle to hand tool with my spacebar.

    My problem is that the menu bar does show up, but the text area is over the dropdown menu. You can see the drop down menu start but then is hidden under the textarea. I hope that a good enough discription.
    The frame is a typical JFrame that contains a BorderLayout. My class TheFrame is an extention of JFrame. In the CenterPanel I have a Text area. In the south panel I have another BorderLayout with a text area as the center and a button for the east panel. The menu is going under the text area in the center panel. This might be a bug with the borderlayout?

    getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout());
    JMenuBar menuBar = new JMenuBar();
    setJMenuBar(menuBar);

    private JMenuItem createConnectItem(){
    JMenuItem connect = new JMenuItem("New");
    ActionListener listener = new ConnectMenuItemActionListener(com);
    connect.addActionListener(listener);
    return connect;
    }

    I don't see the textarea in the code you posted.
    But I know that the described problem comes up when
    you use "TextArea" unstead of "JTextArea".
    "TextArea" is an awt component and "JTextArea" is
    the corresponding swing component. You should not
    mix awt and swing components in the same GUI.
    However, "TextArea" has the scrolling facility already included.
    With "JTextArea" you must use JScrollPane if you need
    scrolling.
            JScrollPane scrollpane = new JScrollPane();
            JTextArea textarea = new JTextArea();
            scrollpane.setViewportView(textarea);

  • Extra White Space from Hidden Menu Bar

    This seems to be a problem introduced by LV 2013. I have a VI that runs with the menu bar hidden. When I hit ctrl-m to see how it looks in run mode, it looks fine. When I run the VI, instead of fully hiding the menu bar, it leaves white space. This only seems to be a problem when the VI is the top level. When the VI is opened from another VI, it looks fine. I've attached screenshots when the VI is running as a top level, ctrl-m is used and running when launched from another VI. This was not an issue in LV 2012. It's only been a problem since switching to 2013.

    Greetings thutch79,
    I replicated the settings shown at Window Appearance Dialog.png on a new VI, ran it, and did not reproduce the problem.
    I wonder if you experience the same behavior with a new VI? If not, you can copy paste the code to a new VI to fix a potential corruption issue.

  • Top 2-3 files displayed in Finder are hidden under Finder's menu bar. How do I modify view to correct this?

    Recently updated to Yosemite 10.10.2 on MacBook Pro (early 2011) and now when I open a folder in Finder, the top 2-3 files displayed are hidden under Finder's menu bar. I can scroll up to see the files, but they snap back under the menu bar preventing me from selecting or opening them. This problem occurs in the following Finder view preferences, "icons" "in lists" and "in columns" but not "Cover Flow".  Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

    This sounds like a Windows thing ( You can post a photo and I can tell you for certain). Those folders are Windows system created folders that your computer has had since it was installed, all Firefox does is use the Windows File picker, which is what you see when you open that window. So, to customize you'd have to do that from Windows Explorer (not Firefox).
    The Window should however remember what folder you were in last.
