Menu Bar issues on Macbook Pro

I came across this problem with my mac where after logging in I noticed that the menu bar, specifically the battery and wifi icon takes atleast 5-10 mins to appear and when I hover the cursor anywhere on the right side of the menu bar it shows the spinning rainbow. Also the volume button seems to be greyed out as well and usually I have to plug in ear phones and it will go away but only temporarily. This never happened to my mac until today and for some reason I think it has to do with the installation of Adobe CS6 Master Collection. (yes, it was torrented. no, I wont do it again.) I did some slight research and on some website it said that there could be some applications recently installed that could have caused this to happen. If anyone has a solution I would very much appreciate it.

  • Menu bar disappearing on MacBook Pro 13" w/ Retina.

Just bought a new MacBook Pro w/ Retina and the menu bar keeps randomly disappearing. How do I make this stop? It comes back as soon as I click where it should be. I notice it happens particularly when opening Google Chrome, but that's also one of the few apps I have been using since purchasing it a few days ago. Been a Mac user for years and have never seen this happen but it's starting to get frustrating.

On My MacBook Pro it has a high resolution screen. 1152 x 720 resolution is not listed. if you think your type in the menu bar is small, you should see mine!
I personally would never recommend anyone orders on with Hi-Res.
No matter what resolution I use other than 1680 x 1050 ( max listed for my Notebook) the sharpness is not acceptable to me.
Wrote to apple concerning the menu display along with numerous others and have been totally ignored.

    Hi Norm,
    1. I've been researching, and, with a few exceptions which are not acceptable to me, I believe you are correct.
    4. I really have no choice, I have to reduce the res to see text.
    5. Apple does not reply to feedback, so don't feel ignored. I've also sent feedback and emailed Jobs, and maybe, someday, after enough of us do that, this will get "fixed." Meanwhile, I'm also often at 1152x720.

There are some keyboard commands (shortcuts) you can use instead of having to go to the Apple menu -
Control-Eject          This brings up the Restart-Sleep-Cancel-Shutdown window.
Command-Option-Eject          This puts the machine to sleep.
Command-Control-Eject          This closes all apps and restarts the machine.

  • [SOLVED] Linux kernel 3.6.2-1 issues on Macbook Pro 4,1

After my recent system upgrade to linux-3.6.2-1, I ran into a couple noticeable issues on my laptop.  The first was the inability to use "mount -i /home/user", which is in my .bash_profile, to mount my encrypted home directory at login.  An error message would respond saying that eCryptfs does not support aes.  I was able to manually mount it with "mount -t ecryptfs /home/user/.private /home/user", but could not figure out the issue.  I also noticed my laptop running a hotter that usual and found that my fans were not changing according to the sensors.  I use macfanctld from the AUR to change my fan speed and killing its process and restarting it had no effect.  I then decided my recent system upgrade may be at fault so I rebooted into linux-lts and the issues were solved.  I then downgraded linux-3.6.2-1, linux-headers-3.6.2-1, nvidia-304.51-4, virtualbox-guest-modules- 4.2.0-6, and virtualbox-host-modules-4.2.0-6 to linux-3.5.6-1, linux-headers-3.5.6-1, nvidia-304.51-3, virtualbox-guest-modules-4.2.0-5, and virtualbox-host-modules-4.2.0-5.  These issues are now fixed on my system with the downgrade and I have blocked them from upgrade in pacman.conf.  I did not notice any other issues.

I felt it was necessary to post this issue, especially if another person also has it, so that it may be resolved in future kernel updates.  If there are any logs or other information people need to help resolve this issue or if I should notify a mod of this or something, please let me know.

After further investigation the issues were easily solved.
Regarding my encrypted home directory, I checked kernel.log and found that ecryptfs did not like the argument ecrypt_key_bytes=16 and that manual mount has the variable name ecryptfs_key_bytes=16.  So I simply changed that in my fstab.  Auto-mounting my home directory works nicely again.
In regards to the fan issue, I had to alter /etc/macfanctl.conf because the output of the sensors command (lm-sensors) contained some negative values which may have affected average temperatures and such.  I excluded those temperatures and played with the constraints more until the fans spun faster when I felt they should.
Still found it strange that some of these issues happened during kernel upgrades, but glad to have solved the issues.

Are you saying you're running Windows in BootCamp or Windows as a Virtual Machine? You can increase the fan speed on the Mac using smcFanControl and use the software OGELTHORPE recommended to observe improvements.
smcFanControl is a Mac application and doesn't work in Windows, but if you set a higher minimum fan speed (which is how smcFanControl works) while running OS X, when you reboot into a BootCamp partition, that minimum speed tends to be carried over.

  • MacBook Pro and WeatherPop menu bar issue

I noticed that my weatherpop application is not automatically starting when my macbook pro boots up even though it is listed in my auto login list. So, I double clicked on it in the applications group and all it does is reload my menu bar and won't load. I tried it over and over getting the same results. Anyone else having this issue?

    Help, anyone?

  • I just installed Lion 3 days ago, now my audio won't work, unless I use headphones, also space bar glitches, and other software issues..MacBook Pro 15 inch, and most everything is messed,,but the audio is killing me.

I installed Lion a few days ago, ever since then my audio won't work, unless I use my headphones.  Also, the saver screen with password changes frequently, and the space bar works when it wants to.  There are many other issues I am having.  My IPhoto,,does not work properly, pages is not working, I have all versions.  The Office Suite is acting strange, and my email accounts work when they want,,,my IPhone 4 won't sync anymore.  The list is endless...does anyone else have this problem?

Your wifi problem sounds very much like the problem I had. The wifi would drop out, the icon showed it was still connected. If I turned it off, I couldn't turn it back on. Another user here pointed me to the problem, which was the wifi cable (the flat cable goint from the card to the motherboard). I found it on ebay for $13 and it's been running fine since I replaced it. This is the repair guide for your machine. The part number will be on there if you click the link.

  • P key issues on Macbook pro

Hello! A few nights ago my girlfriend's lowercase p key stopped working properly. When pressed it activates the volume down function on F11. The uppercase P works however, but she recently told me that pressing capslock makes a comma. It is a 15 inch 2011 Macbook Pro. Any ideas as to what the issue is or what to do to fix it?

Hold down the option key and select the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar. What values are shown for the following?
              PHY Mode
              Channel
              Security
              Signal/Noise or RSSI
              Transmit Rate

  • Wifi performance issues on macbook pro

Hello, I have an older MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.5 that is having serious wifi issues (really slow browsing and accessing sites) and even regularly appears to drop the wifi connection.  It also has trouble printing to our HP wireless printer.  I am confident the issue is with the Macbook as we have 2 other windows laptops that work fine (and can print reliably), as well as iPads and iphones that all seem to be working OK.
We are using a Timecapsule wifi router that is located close-by, and all the other devices seem to be reliably connecting.
If anyone has any suggestion or diagnostics I can run on the Macbook to help diagnose the problem it would be really appreciated.
    Thankyou

  • Airplay issues on Macbook Pro 13 inch

    Hi,
I've upgraded my Macbook Pro 13 inch (Mid 2012) to Mountain Lion, and I also have an Apple TV 2nd generation (720p) which has the latest software.
If I use the Airplay icon in the menu bar, and choose "Apple TV", all that seems to do is switch my MacBook Pro to what looks like a scaled down 1080p resolution. Nothing else changes. The options in the Airplay menu don't change at all. It doesn't even tick of the Apple TV option. To get my Macbook Pro back to 1280x800, I have to go into Display Preferences and choose "Best for built-in display".
If, while in Display Preferences, I choose "Apple TV" from the "AirPlay mirroring" menu, AirPlay mirroring seems to work fine. My MacBook Pro resolution stays the same, and the AppleTV shows an exact copy of what I see on my MacBook Pro.
If I then choose "Off" from the "AirPlay mirroring" menu in Display Preferences, the Apple TV goes back to its menu, as expected, but the MacBook Pro switches to the 1080p-looking resolution again. Again, I can choose "Best for built-in display" and the MacBook Pro returns to normal.
I'm tempted to do a clean install of Mountain Lion on a new disk partition, but I've only had the MacBook Pro for about a month, so am not so keen on doing that unless I know that will really make things better. I'm also tempted to get the new Apple TV in the hope that it will work, but it doesn't seem like it's worth the "upgrade" considering it only really gives me a higher resolution on my TV and nothing else. And there's no guarantee that the AirPlay issue will be fixed either.
Does anybody else get this issue?

The symptoms I'm getting now, and I'm not sure if they're any different, suggest that for some reason Mountain Lion thinks my display resolution is higher than what it is, as wether I'm turning AirPlay on or off, it keeps changing it (on the MacBook) to what looks like maybe 1080p.

  • Spry Menu insert works on MacBook Pro but not on iMac

I am teaching myself Dreamweaver CS4, having been forced to migrate from GoLive.  Am building a website and want to use Spry Menu Bar.  Create page, save page, insert Spry Menu Bar, save page.  On MacBook Pro, menu bar appears with Spry Menu Tab attached.  On iMac, menu bar shows up WITHOUT Spry Menu Tab, which precludes the correct Property Window from appearing.  Anyone know how to get around this?  I called Adobe and they, without exaggeration, told me that they couldn't support Spry items and that I had to go the this forum for answers.  What BS!

Its not the first time I hear that. Its clearly a Dreamweaver issue instead of Spry issue.
In design mode, if you hover over the inserted menu bar, does it get a blue color? If yes, what happens if you click the blue label "Spry Menu Bar: Menubar{x}"? It should display in the properties panel.
If not could please provide us with a screenshot?

  • Civilization V - invisible menu's with new MacBook Pro

So - A few weeks ago I bought a MacBook Pro 13". I also bought Civilization V which worked perfectly with it.
Today I exchanged my MacBook Pro for the most up to date model. I imported all my files / applications.
Civilization V fires up fine, intro sequence works but the menus are totally unreadable - invisible blank bars that are highlighted if I mouse over them. If by fluke I click the right combination of menu buttons the game itself appears to work as well.
Considering the gamer itself and the opening sequence are more graphically demanding than a list of menu's I am not sure what the issue is....
    Anyone know the answer?
    Thanks

I thank you for your query. I forgot the issue and now I find the following on the Aspyr support website:
"Your game should update automatically thru Steam.
    1.0.1.221a

-Newly supported video cards- ATI HD 6750, ATI HD 6490, ATI HD 5870, ATI HD 5770, and Intel HD 3000."
I installed the update and now I can play on my MBP 13" Great!!!
I should note that Aspyr never notified me about this updtade

  • Issue with MacBook Pro (mid 2009) wifi multiple AP signal 'confusion'

I'll try to explain this as best I can, not being an expert in networking!
I recently upgraded my router from a Linksys WRT160N to an Airport Extreme, in the hope that it would do a better job of broadcasting a stronger wifi signal throughout my house. Whilst it is improved, it's still no good enough for streaming to my iPad 2 where I want in the house. Reading around on the web I discovered that I should be able to use the Linksys as an AP to extend the effective range of my wifi network, as long as it is hardwired into the base station via Ethernet (no WDS support on the Linksys model).
So, I managed to get this all up and running, disabling the dchp on the Linksys, fixed ip allocation etc and using the same SSID and passwords etc. All is well with the iPhone and iPad2 access - they just automatically switch to the strongest signal no problem when I move around the house. Cool.
The issue lies with the MBP - I have a favoured spot in the house where both the broadcast signal from the AEBS and Linksys are very strong, and the MBP gets all confused. opening up the lid from standby it searches for the wifi (bar moving up and down the signal indicator) and then just has an exclamation mark. I try to manually select the SSID but no dice. I have to switch the MBP adaptor off and on, rescan avail networks, and lo and behold two versions of my SSID are shown. Select one and then it connects. However, I have to go through this whole exercise every time I pull the MBP out of standby, which is very irritating.
I do have a workaround - if I name the SSID on the Linksys something different, the problem goes away. However, i effecktively now have 2 wireless networks & I then have to manually switch between the two SSID's to get the strongest signal depending where I am in the house. It's suffices for now but not ideal.
What I don't get is why is it only the MBP affected & the iPhone & iPad 2 are fine? Is this anything to do with the 2.4 ghz & 5 ghz being broadcast by the AEBS getting all mixed up with just the 2.4 ghz being broadcast from the Linksys??? Both 2.4 & 5 ghz are broadcasting the same SSID.
    Any help appreciated.

OK - fixed this now. By setting the 5 Ghz channel on the AEBS to a different SSID and putting this to the top of my priority WIFI connections on the MacBook Pro then it ignores the conflict between the 2.4 Ghz networks being broadcast by the Linksys & AEBS. No more hanging connection when I resume the MBP
