Menu bar / Toolbar hidden in Front Panel?

Hello all,
I am a newbe with Labview. I have to adopt a Labview program from a
person who is not available anymore.
He has programmed a start.vi which calles other sub-vi_s. While the
program is running, the menu bar and the tool bar is vanished. How did
he do that and how can I make the Labview menu bar and the tool bar
visible again? I would like to have an abort button, among others.
Also, the program just executes after being loaded. I want the program
to load, but not to run immediately.
I use an old version: V4.01
Any help would be appreciated.
Johannes

I would also like to add that having the abort button not available is a really good idea for the program when you want it to be used as opposed to development. Depending on what's going on, aborting a VI can have some real nasty consequences.
As to your other question, the VI's properties may also be set to run when opened. You should see that option on the Execution page. You may also have to enclose the existing code inside of a case statement and then put all of that inside of a while loop. With a while loop, the program will continously read the status of a start button. When the start button is true, then whatever is inside the true case will execute. This is where the old code should be. When the old code is done, you can then press the s
tart button again to repeat. You will also need to add a stop button wired to the while loop terminator.

  • Main VI Menu event calling a subVI front panel

    Hi all,
    I have a subVI whose front panel is loaded upon calling by a main VI.
    I call the subVI using a User-menu event.
    the subvi-properties are set to allow close window and i am not handling a 'panel close' event.
    The problem is....
    when i run the main VI and click on the menu that loads the subVI front panel, subVI window opens, and if i click on the window-close, the main VI hangs.
    i understand that the control remains with the subVI only and never returned to main VI after i close subVI panel.
    but is it the only way to handle the 'panel close event' or any other way out to solve this?

    Try running the VI with highlight execution turned on, and see if anything unexpected is happening, or you could post your vi and let us take a nosey

  • Is there a way to show a web page title when the menu bar is hidden?

    I need to see the web page title on the top bar of the browser because the tabs don't give me enough information. However, when I have the menu bar hidden, the page titles go away, too. Is there a setting I'm missing to show the page titles even when the menu bar is hidden?

  • Tab Bar/Titlebar Acts Up while Menu Bar is Hidden

    While the menu bar is hidden (made to require ALT to be pressed to be visible), the tab bar suddenly becomes overlayed with the titlebar (making the Windows titlebar and minimize/maximize/close buttons appear over the tab bar) whenever anything on the top of the window is interacted with.
    Does the same thing in Firefox Safe Mode (no addons). I'm submitting this form in Safe Mode.

    Set the pref <b>browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar</b> to false on the <b>about:config</b> page.

  • Firefox menu bar is hidden and refresh didn't help

    Hi, Firefox menu bar is hidden and refresh didn't help. It is not available if I right click the top of the screen beside tabs. I cannot find or restore it on the customize page. I have tried 3 or 4 solutions, and none worked.

    Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).

    The new look where the menu bar is hidden, looks really nice.
    ...but I can't find the Tools option when the menu bar is hidden.
    Therefore I can't access plug-in options like Session Manager.
    I would really like the Tools menu appearing i.e. below the Options in the Firefox 'start menu'.

    Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

  • Dropdown Menu bar being hidden by the Textarea

    My problem is that the menu bar does show up, but the text area is over the dropdown menu. You can see the drop down menu start but then is hidden under the textarea. I hope that a good enough discription.
    The frame is a typical JFrame that contains a BorderLayout. My class TheFrame is an extention of JFrame. In the CenterPanel I have a Text area. In the south panel I have another BorderLayout with a text area as the center and a button for the east panel. The menu is going under the text area in the center panel. This might be a bug with the borderlayout?
    public TheFrame(){
    super("Com");
    getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout());
    JMenuBar menuBar = new JMenuBar();
    setJMenuBar(menuBar);
    menuBar.add(getMyMenuBar());
    getContentPane().add(getCenterPanel(), BorderLayout.CENTER);
    getContentPane().add(getSouthPanel(), BorderLayout.SOUTH);
    pack();
    private JMenu getMyMenuBar(){
    JMenu menu = new JMenu("File");
    menu.add(createConnectItem());
    menu.add(new JMenuItem("test"));
    return menu;
    private JMenuItem createConnectItem(){
    JMenuItem connect = new JMenuItem("New");
    ActionListener listener = new ConnectMenuItemActionListener(com);
    connect.addActionListener(listener);
    return connect;
    }

    I don't see the textarea in the code you posted.
    But I know that the described problem comes up when
    you use "TextArea" unstead of "JTextArea".
    "TextArea" is an awt component and "JTextArea" is
    the corresponding swing component. You should not
    mix awt and swing components in the same GUI.
    However, "TextArea" has the scrolling facility already included.
    With "JTextArea" you must use JScrollPane if you need
    scrolling.
            JScrollPane scrollpane = new JScrollPane();
            JTextArea textarea = new JTextArea();
            scrollpane.setViewportView(textarea);

  • Cannot click bookmarks on menu bar after ALT-key when menu bar is hidden

    If you personalize the toolbars, dock the "Bookmarks objects" to the menu bar (useful to reduce space) and hide the menu bar (making it visible by pressing the ALT key) you're not able to click a bookmarks bar's item anymore because (after having shown it by pressing ALT key) as you click the bookmark button the menu bar loses focus causing the whole bar to be hidden again and the click event to be catched by the main window instead of the bookmark button.
    [http://alextm.no-ip.com/bookmarks_on_menubar.JPG Screenshot of the header with bookmarks]

    With F10 you obtain the same result, the menu bar is shown but when you click on a non-menu item the bar is hidden again not allowing the bookmark item to catch the click event.
    Of course I know how to move the bookmarks bar back to the tab bar, but it is not a solution to the problem I've posted, just a workaround. As I've said in my previous post I've moved the bookmarks bar there to limit the height of the window's heading section: if I move it down again I miss my target.
    Anyway, I don't think we are here to decide wherever to place the bookmarks bar, but to notify to the developers the presence of this issue.

  • Using a "menu ring" feature on the front panel with event structures

    hello - right now i have many event cases controlled by many "ok buttons". i would like to use a menu ring on the front panel to save space from all those buttons, but i don't see how it will work with all the individual event cases. currently each event is tied to a single button, and the menu ring acts as one thing on the block diagram so i can't tie an event to a choice in the menu. any suggestions? thanks....

    Alternativley, you could use an enum control instead of a menu ring. It will name the cases according to the selection automatically.
    If you want to use a menu ring and strings, you could do something like in this image.

  • Can the desktop menu bar be hidden?

    I would like for the menu bar to be hidden until I want to use it, i.e. mouse over it to make it appear.  Can this be done?

    Here's an article that describes how to get the menu bar behaviour that the OP wanted (i.e., hiding until mouse-over) on an application-by-application basis. It requires nothing more than Xcode to be installed (which is free from Apple in the App Store) and a bit of Property List editing (which is what you need Xcode for).

    It would be helpful if this article stated that the you will have to hit CTRL+ B to show the menu bar  that contains the "FILE" Menu button. (the menu bar is default hidden itunes when you update to the newest version)

  • How do I prevent scroll bar use from disabling front panel updates?

    I have two top-level VIs running simultaneously using different execution systems.  The first VI has a list box scroll bar.  When the scroll bar is used by the operator, updates to the second VI front panel are temporarily blocked.  This is due to the single user interface thread shared by both VIs.  I there anyway to allow the second VI to update its front panel while the first VI is bound to its scroll bar?

    Hi,
    Your problem seems to be a bit more complex. I created two vi's, one with a simple loop, the other with a list box (both running in different execution systems). The first isn't noticeably affected by moving the listbox' scrollbar.
    It there an increase in processor load when you move the scrollbar? That could stop the other vi from updating. Perhaps you can isolate the problem (remove all irrelevant code) and post the remaining vi's?
    Regards,
    Wiebe.
