Menu bar turned to A's/  DAP/

hi everybody, actually this is a multi-issue. i've been trying to uninstall DAP, did read the threads others wrote re this, but have no clue where to find the UNINSTALLER. anyhow, this may or may not be related, this morning i was trying to open i-tunes which didn't want to open and then the menu bar turned to all A's in boxes. scary! i tried to restart from the apple (the A's didn't last too long) but the computer wouldn't cooperate. i was able to use the side button and now all is back to normal. (? she wonders?) the other thing is i've had a few glitches since getting comcast highspeed internet - . i do want to know if i need DAP? even after i threw it in the trash i was unable to download anything, kept getting the message safari couldn't find the plug- in (which i found and tossed to desktop, thanks to these forums). but meanwhile i got so frustrated that i finally just bought a new DAP BUT then darn thing can't register. it says we're not online when in fact i'm always online. i've exchanged probably 20 emails with their support who mainly seem pretty clueless. so that makes two of us! sorry for the 'list' of stuff but just wondering what is related, what is not... also been getting a funny message a couple of times now for new emails that says i have to go online to retrieve them but after a few minutes they just open. i did do the repair disk permissions before restarting and tossed the following (but haven't emptied trash just in case)
com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.desktop.plist
any thoughts? thanks so much! bobbie

If you followed these instructions:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
and if it didn't work, you may need to repair your Volume- in which case the first thing to do would be to boot from the Install & Restore disc that came with your machine by:
1. Inserting the disc, pressing the power button, and immediately after the startup chime, press and hold the C key until you see the spinning gear icon appear on the grey splash screen.
2. After the machine has booted, pick your language, and when the Installer window appears, do not press Continue, but go to the Utilities menu in the menubar and open Disk Utility.
3. In Disk Utility, choose your normal startup volume in the pane on the left and then click Repair Disk. If any errors show in the window, run Repair Disk again until you see 'The volume appears to be OK' in green.
4. Quit Disk Utility, quit the installer and attempt to restart into your regular startup volume.

  • When I turn on my Macbook, only a blue screen appears with no Dock or info in the menu bar

When I went to turn on my Macbook OS X today, only a blue background showed up. For some reason the only program that opened was Bittorrent and besides that in the menu bar at the top there is nothing on the screen. The dock wont appear even if I hold my mouse down over where it should be. There is no time display in the menu bar. I can open single applications at a time by clicking on the apple icon in the left corner of the menu bar and selecting "recent items" but other than that nothing else works. When I go into "system preferences" and try to click different display options for the dock and menu bar such as the clock, it won't let me select it.
I tired booting up the computer in "safe mode" and everything was fine, but then when I went to do a regular start up the same problem occurred.
Has any one else seen this problem.

Try running this program and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read.

  • Option to turn "Menu Bar" on/off no longer works

Have a weird issue as of today.  I've checked multiple Windows 7-IE9, Windows 8-IE10, and also a Windows 8.1-IE11 computers.  On all computers, the option to turn the "Menu Bar" on or off no longer works!
In fact, if you 'right click' on a blank area at the top of IE, the "Menu Bar" item no longer shows up in the popup menu!  On one of the computers the Menu Bar in IE had previously been enabled.  So I selected "View" - "Toolbars"
    - "Menu Bar" and it does nothing.  It doesn't turn off/on the menu bar.
It's like the Menu Bar option is completely fubar as of today.  I had worked last week on a different computer and this WAS working.
Has anyone else run into this or are you currently seeing this?

    Hi,
Navigate to Local Group Policy Editor, find User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components> Internet Explorer> Turn on menu bar by the default, and check if you have disabled it.
If you enable this policy setting, the menu bar will appear in Internet Explorer by default and the users cannot turn it off.

  • System Prefs show Airport "OFF" but in menu bar I can turn on... pls look

    Good day.
System Profiler sees the Airport card however shows no network. (This has been running with no problems for months)
System Prefs, Network shows the Airport card as "OFF" even tho I can turn it "on" up on the menu bar. (it takes two times to turn it on via the network bar)
It still cannot see the network. (I am 802.11n everywhere and I'm using my MBP on the network I've been using for months)
The bottom line is I can't get my MacPro 3.0Ghz to see the network and the system profes show it's on even tho I can turn it on and off via the network bar.
Note: I've also plugged in a airport express via the Mac Pro's enet port and it simply cannot see it.
    Any advise please.
    Thanks
    Tom

I am having a very similar problem. Did you find any fixes for this?
I have a snow base station and have no problems connecting to it with a clamshell iBook running OS X. But with my PowerBook G4, whenever I turn Airport on and try to access the base station, the airport status icon constantly flashes, almost like a pulse.
Today I took my PowerBook to a hot spot, and Airport worked great, so I know that my card is fine.
One thing I'm wondering about -- what firmware are you using on your base station? I currently have 4.0.4, so it's possible that upgrading to 4.0.9 will solve this problem. I'm reluctant for the moment to try the firmware upgrade because the clamshell iBook connects to the snow base station so smoothly. I don't want to mess up one set-up while trying to fix another.
I'll check back in case you have new information, including (I hope) a fix for this.

    Someone has this problem?

    Hey there Iboppie,
It sounds like you need to have the menu bar showing in iTunes. This article will help you with that:
iTunes: Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5610
To turn on iTunes menus in Windows 8 or 7, do one of the following:
    Press the Alt key.
This will turn the menus on and off temporarily. This will change back to the default, the iTunes menus being turned off, when you next close iTunes.
To keep the iTunes menus active, change the setting by selecting the Menu icon in the upper-left, and then selecting Show Menu Bar. Alternatively, you can press Control-B.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Is it possible to turn off the menu bar on secondary display?

I have upgraded to Mavericks on an iMac used exclusively for presentations (not mirrored) and now the menu bar shows up dimmed on the presentation screen if there is not a presentation currently playing. I have not found any setting for turning off for that display. Can it be done? If not Apple please add this option ASAP because it looks very unprofessional to have the menu bar pop-up on the presentation display in between presentations.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
    -Michael Wheeler

It worked but needed some further finessing to perfect.
After unchecking "Displays have separate Spaces" and logging out and back in the menu bar was gone but however now it showed the same desktop picture as was on the primary display. That was highly undesireable as I was trying to get rid of anything being shown on the projection screen when a slide show was not playing.
I played around with the "Desktop & Screen Saver" preference pane and discovered that I could still change the Desktop pictures of each display separately -- whew! I was worried there for a while. Not sure why it didn't just keep the original solid black desktop setting for that display as that would have been ideal but I was able to change it back to the solid black setting as before and now it just looks like the projection screen is off whenever a slide show is not playing -- perfect!
Let me just say to Apple that the whole process was very unintuitive and couldn've been solved with just a simple checkbox in the "Displays" preference pane to turn off the menu bar for the alternate display. So may I kindly suggest you consider adding some sort of option to do that in the Displays preference pane where it would be much more intiuitive than "Mission Control --> Uncheck Deisplays have separate Spaces."
    Thanks again for you help!

  • How can I turn off auto-hide menu bar in Terminal app?

This is soooo anoying.   Open terminal app in fullscreen mode, open a few tabs, now when you move your mouse to the top to click on a new tab, the menu bar shows itself and covers the tabs.
I want to turn off this feature to auto-hide the menu bar.  I would much rather have it move all the tabs down a bit when the menu bar apprears.
Any ideas to help fix the issue?

Can't turn that off. It's a feature of full screen mode. If you place your mouse at the bottom of the tab you want to select, the Terminal Menu bar doesn't pop up for me.

  • I am not able to view the default view of FF 4.0, It is showing menu bar with the windows border. When i turn off menu bar, the strip which should be present above the tabs goes missing.

I have recently downloaded FF 4.0 and using a lot of add-ons. I am not able to view the default view of FF 4.0 with no menu bar. Even after turning off the menu bar from customization, I am able to see only the tabs and FF button, but not the strip over the tabs.

When you hide the menu bar to display the Firefox button, the titlebar (strip above the tabs) is only displayed if the Firefox window is not maximized. If you always want the Window titlebar, you can use the Firefox 4 UI Fixer extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/firefox-4-ui-fixer

  • Turning menu bar on with title bar off

I love how the title bar is gone from Firefox 4 and when I press ALT I can get the menu bar up next to the FIREFOX drop-down
I want to turn the menu bar on permanently, but as soon as I do the title bar comes back and the Firefox drop-down goes away (taking up more real estate).
How can I turn on the menu bar but keep the title bar off and the Firefox drop-down on?

You can't. You can either see the menu bar or the orange Firefox button.<br />
You can however customize the Firefox button or place extra items on the title bar.

  • Mozilla edit menu not available. Customize does not provide way to turn on menu bars, still don't have view or edit

My edit toolbar is not available. None of Google help's suggestions work. Customize does NOT have a tab to turn on menu bars - I have reset Mozilla and I am not on full screen. Thanks for any help

The classic Menu Bar is not displayed by default, so after Reset, it will not appear immediately. To turn on the Menu Bar, try one of these:
    * right-click a blank area of the tab bar
    * right-click the "+" button on the tab bar
    * tap the Alt key to display the classic Menu Bar temporarily, then View > Toolbars
    * in Customize, try the Show/Hide Toolbars button
