Menu bar with wrench icon missing

I have downloaded FF 4 and cannot find the menu bar that shows the wrench icon etc.

Firefox does not have a wrench icon. If you mean you do not have the new user interface, it is only default on Windows Vista and Windows 7. To get it on Windows XP you need to hide the menu bar. To do that in the View menu select Toolbars, then click on the "Menu Bar" entry.
If you need access to the menus you can press either Alt or F10 to temporarily display them.

Menu Bar Time Machine icon displays a Question mark - Problem and Fix

My MacBook over the weekend upon awakening from sleep showed that the Menu Bar Time Machine icon displays a Question mark. The external drive showed as mounted in the finder but repeated tries to Back up Now ended in Latest Backup Failed. Hmmm. Never saw that before. Did a restart and ran Disk Utility Verify Disk on the start up disk and it came out OK. So I then ran Disk Utility on the external FW backup drive and as soon as it reported that the FW disk was fine, Time Machine started up on it's own and did a back up and all is back to normal after leaving the TM drive attached the remainder of the weekend. All backups are back to working fine with no repeat of the problem.

If for some reason the computer has trouble communicating with the drive it will report a failure when TM tries to back up, and will display that question mark. It's good you were able to fix it and get TM running again.

Horizontal Spry Menu Bar with Horizontal Sub Menu

I have created a horizontal menu bar with only one main menu item leading to a sub menu. I would like this sub menu to display horizontally also, instead of vertically as added by default.
I am relatively new to dreamweaver and would appreciate any help possible.

When I use Firefox without menu bar I can see bookmarks. How ever when I activate menu bar the bookmark is missing from toolbar. I tried opening in safe mode and resetting toolbar but it didn't fix the issue. I am using version 7.0

Do you mean the Bookmarks Menu button on the Navigation Toolbar?
You only see that button if the menu bar is hidden.

Menu Bar - Sound Volume icon does not move with the press of the F key

So I normally press the F keys to control the Sound Volume, right, just like everyone else does -
but the Sound Volume icon in the Menu Bar at the top right does not respond to the F key at all!
Isn't it supposed to react simultaneous with the press of the F key?
I have to actually use my mouse click to make that volume go up and down.
The actual volume does work with the F key, it goes up and down.
But to make the 2 work in sync, I have to point the mouse to the one at the Menu Bar, fiddle with it, and then I can use the F key and both work together at the same time.
If I haven't touched the Menu Bar one for a while and I only use the F key, the Menu Bar one doesn't move at all.
It's weird. Any ideas?

I see what Al is seeing. Normally I just use one method or the other. The Volume Adjustment keys provide visual feedback, so it's unnecessary to check the menu extra, i.e. the Volume menu bar icon, to see the same feedback.
The slight delay in the reaction of the Volume menu extra, when open and while adjusting the volume with the Volume keys is normal.
They're independent methods for adjusting the Volume setting. The Volume menu extra takes a moment to refresh when the slider is displayed and you're changing the setting via the Volume keys.

Menu Bar with no background on startup, just the black icons...!!!Help

Sometimes when I start my Mac, the menu bar takes a while to appear. The Icons are there, and nothing else. If I click over it, it will appear.
This has nothing to do with the transparent menu bar option.
I can't find any info on the web...
The only two things extra I have there are DropBox, and Bowtie for iTunes.
Any ideias?

I am not able to view the default view of FF 4.0, It is showing menu bar with the windows border. When i turn off menu bar, the strip which should be present above the tabs goes missing.

I have recently downloaded FF 4.0 and using a lot of add-ons. I am not able to view the default view of FF 4.0 with no menu bar. Even after turning off the menu bar from customization, I am able to see only the tabs and FF button, but not the strip over the tabs.

When you hide the menu bar to display the Firefox button, the titlebar (strip above the tabs) is only displayed if the Firefox window is not maximized. If you always want the Window titlebar, you can use the Firefox 4 UI Fixer extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/firefox-4-ui-fixer

My macbook pro 15 inch freezes up. I forced a shutdown. After reboot, system restarted to factory settings, applications/softwares disappeared, apple dropdown menu disabled, dock and icons missing, keyboard not functioning

Hi. I'm in need of great help as I do not understand how this could have happened.
I had my firefox on, with multiple tabs and windows as I was doing intense research for a paper. My screen then freezes up, but my mouse could still work. Having experienced this before, I immediately pressed and hold the power button till my macbook pro shuts down.
After which, I switched it back on. To my horror, everything was resetted to factory settings: my desktop background was replaced, the fonts on the clock display were different. But this wasn't so bad.
After which, I realised that my dock went missing, together with the icons. I clicked the apple drop down menu, and my screen hanged momentarily, and in that moment everything on the screen disappeared (including the upper dock) for a few seconds and appear again. Meaning, i cant click the drop down.
Similar thing happened with my spotlight. Using the hot keys command-space, the dropdown appeared on the top right, but when i started to type, the screen disappeared and appeared again like before.
Finally i checked my applications folder, and it seems like all the applications are missing, like they have never been installed before! Their folders are there, but the icons and apllications themselves aren't. No applications/software installed- not even the utilities and system preference softwares that came with the macbook.
Luckily though, all my documents are safe. I just cant open them because my iworks and adobe are all missing and "not installed". I cant even access the internet. I'm doing this via my iPhone.
So basically i cant do anything because my apple drop down menu is unreachable, so is my spotlight, and my apps/softwares like system preference, utility are all missing. Is there a way i can troubleshoot this? Or make my macbook work again? I have already restarted and shutdown and switch it back on again near five times.
I know my explanation is long, but do help me if you can. I'm really at a lost right now...

Thanks for the help. I did what you advised, but it still did not work.
The repair disk was successful. Unfortunately when the system restarted to boot my startup disk, I faced the exact same problems as I did previously. I also did a hardware test, but no problems were found.
Even tried powering off and on the macbook pro again but the same problems remained...
I tried to back-up my files too but they refuse to copy/move into my hard disk drive folder.
Nothing works.
Do you have other ideas? Or suggestions?

Can't move around 3rd party apps in menu bar with Yosemite

Hi - I have a Macbook Pro with Retina and I installed a few apps - pace, shazam, knock, flux and skip tunes. I wanted to edit the order of how they are displayed in the menu bar but I can't seem to be able to move them around (holding down the command key). However, this seems to be limited to the third party apps because I can move the native icons (bluetooth, battery, wireless) around just fine. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

I did the same this week. I did a sync and now I can't access any of my apps. They appear to open then shut right back down. Have tried to resync, update and about anything else that may fix and nothing. Paying an aweful lot of money just for texting and phone usage. Anyone know how to take care of this issue? The item in menu bar with the 3 rolling balls I used to download from You Tube are not on my tool bar since upgrading. How do I download now?

There was an icon on the menu bar that had 3 balls that revolved. Next to it was a drop down arrow that would let me choose to download files from You Tube and others in several formats. I recently had to remove and reinstall Firefox from my computer and evidently with this version, that icon is not there. How do I get it back or how do I download now?

Menu Bar with dataprovider in XML format

Good day!
Been working with flex for quite a while now and I must say it has been quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, I've stumbled upon a bit of a problem here and was hoping if someone could help me out. See I have this mxml which contains a menu bar, some containing sub menus while others do not.
The data provider for that menu bar is retrieved from a action script file lets say
menubar dataprovider = "{actionscriptfile.menubar}"
the menubar variable inside the acrtionscript file is in XMLLIstCollection format
ex. menuBarCollection = new XMLListCollection(XMLList(
'<menuitem label="Go to">' +
'<menuitem label="Home Page" />'
'</menuitem>'..etc..
This seems to be working just fine. However now, I want to serparate this actionscript from the menu items. I would like to place them inside an xml file which will be
used to populate the menuBarCollection.
I've tried using var request = new URLRequest("MenuXML.xml");
       var loader = new URLLoader();
       loader.load(request); <--inside the actionscript.
However nothing is being displayed inside the menu bar.
The xml file contains.
MenuXML.xml file

Any help on how this can be done will be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem. I was debugging and saw that my data was there it was just a matter of HOW to get it out. I am not sure if this is the correct way of doing it but after reading posts on how to use an XML file for the dataProvider for everything BUT a MenuBar this is what I came up with:

I put the event handler inline but it could be a separate function. The part I was missing was ".children()". I eventually found that in an ActionScript example of displaying data from an XML file in an AdvancedDataGrid.

Desktop suddenly darkens and menu bar and desktop icons disappear

Hi guys,
Some times (not very often) suddenly the desktop darkens, and the menu bar and the disktop icons disappear, while the dock remains. I have to click in order to return!
What causes this thing?
P.S. Before awhile, that this happened again, I looked at the console and saw these two events:
1)**** [IOBluetoothHostControllerUSBTransport][SuspendDevice] -- Suspend -- suspendDeviceCallResult = 0x0000 (kIOReturnSuccess) -- 0x3000 ****
2)setPresentationOptions called with NSApplicationPresentationFullScreen when there is no visible fullscreen window; this call will be ignored.
But I cannot specify the exact time it happened, in order to see if any of those two messages are related.

Thank you Niel!! Re the problem with the display being too big to fit the screen. I had exactly the same problem as geraintfromswansea and was completely stymied. Never even thought of Universal Access being at fault. Must have hit the keyboard command somehow to turn on magnification. Fixed now thanks to you.

Strange behaviour: menu bar freezes, programm icons incomplete

I dont know what happened to my system.
I had some problems with the entourage database on my mac. Since i was not able to resolve it in any way (ms database utility was starting up and unexpectetdly quit always - if anybody can help here?) i noticed some odd behaviour and i started to delete all microsoft files from my mac.
But now there is still somethin strange going on.
For exemplae when i try to open a programm which has no programm icon yet (eg downloaded from internet) i will get a message that the programm my be damaged.
After that i can do merely nothing on my system!
I still have my finder-menu-bar - but i can not select andything to do for example a restart or to shut down. I also cant do this from other programs. only way is to activate the user switch in the right upper corner, go to the login screen and there (i can log in my user again there) select force restart.
i am absolutely clueless what is going on here!
My system was a leopard clean install and i took great care that everything is neat.
Now i have been sitting ducks here with the whole day start - force restart and so on.
Any ideas?

Your HD may be failing, for one thing.
Run DU and check both the HD and repair the file permissions.
Windows programs can collect and retransmit viruses and possibly damage some files. There are reports of a few viruses for Macs.
But I suspect it is most likely your HD going South.
If DU does not turn up any errors, post back.

How can you create a spry menu bar with no background colour?

How can you create the first level of a spry menu bar to have no colour? I have a coloured background right now and the colour matches when you load the site in Internet explorer but does not match in Firefox. Any suggestions are welcomed on how to fix this.

I am learning with code, (obviously) so any feedback would be nice. I use dreamweaver CS4, but when I originally designed the site it was in a much older version of dreamweaver. I wonder if that could also be a cause. (besides human error)
