Menu Clock Time Jumps Ahead 5 Hours - Then, on Restart, Blue Screen Loop

This has happened twice now. I notice the time displayed by the menu clock is five hours ahead (I'm in New York time zone), then, on restart, I get the Blue Screen loop with the gear spinning, quick screen flash, then blue screen/spinning gears ad infinitum...
Last time I did all the obvious: Resetting PRAM et al, repairing permissions, etc... I finally reinstalled SL and all was good.
Any ideas what's going on? This is kind of freaking me out!
Running latest Snow Leopard on Intel Core Duo 2.8 GHz iMac.

Nope; although to be clear, they replaced the entire machine after a new logic board, power supply and hard drive failed to solve the problem; and the same problem persists. I'm inclined to believe that it's a software conflict of some sort, or -- since I haven't seen the same problem documented at length anywhere else -- I am very unlucky.
One thing I haven't done is reinstall the entire OS from scratch. I've restored it from my Time Machine backup every time. I'm purchasing a new hard drive tonight for that purpose.

My macbook pro freezes and then displays a blue screen with black stripes... do you know what's wrong with it?
I have a two and half year mac book pro... I've had some issues with the screen looking scrambled when I quit certain applications, but now it's turned into something worse.  I'll be working on my computer and the thing will freeze.  When I force restart, the first screen, the apple logo, will be a blue tint and won't boot up normally.  Then I try safe mood and it will then boot just fine.  But there are blue stripes on my screen.  The screen alternates from a blue tint to normal and if the computer freezes again the screen will become completely blue with black stripes.  I haven't tried reinstalling my software because I don't have the startup discs that came with my computer.  If I was sure that would fix it I would purchase them, but if it's a hardware issue I'm afraid that I'm screwed.  I've been able to successfully get the blue off my screen by putting it to sleep and then waking it up, but that's not working well anymore either.
Does anyone else have experience with this?  Is it the firmware or what?  I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 and I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    Please help... Thanks!

I just experienced this exact same issue with my early 2011 15" macbook pro. Since like a month after purchasing it I had issues with the screen randomly going dark on me. I sent it in for repair inder waranty they replaced the gpu and logic board but I continued to have the same issues with the screen randomly going black sometimes I would need to reboot it in order to get the screen to go back on but it happened so infrequently and I used the computer for school so disnt find the time to resend it in to apple. Just last night the screen started to display the blue screen with black verticle lines on it. I called apple and explained to them  the issues that had been ongoing since I purchased the laptop but they said because I was now outside of warantee that any repairs at thia point wouldn't be covered. Fml so glad I spent 2200 on this future proof macbook pro what a joke my sister purchased a toshiba laptop for 300 4 years ago and it still running like a champ. I loved my macbook but at the price I paid I expect it to last longer than 2 years before leaving me high and dry. *** apple??

  • Computer freezes and then goes to blue screen and resets (flash player 10.1)

I have tried to install and reset my Internet explorer several times and still have the same result, my computer freezes and then goes to blue screen and resets. I am running windows 7 64 bit and windows Internet explorer 8. I have tried to go through the adobe trouble shooting and end up with the same problem. Does anyone have an idea were to go from here, this is getting very frustrating.

Do you use the 32-bit version of IE8?
Can you see the Flash animation at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?

  • HT201412 Ipad2 has blank blue screen. Itunes does pick it up but restore doesn't work. Flashes yellow screen wit hlogo then back to blue screen.

Ipad 2 has blank blue screen. When turned off goes to black but when hold home/start buttons at same time, flashes on to blue screen. Itunes picks it up and have restored to no avail. Sometimes flashes yellow screen for few seconds with logo then back to blue screen. Have troubleshooted many times by restoring and plugging in/out with itunes but nothing works. Any other advice. It is only 14 months old so just out of warranty. Very frustrating that this expensive piece of well cared for equipment is so unstable and happens just as warranty ends.

    Reset the PRAM
Reinstall the operating system from the dvd (you will not loose your data)

  • Imac shows super weird lines on screen during start up and then freezes at blue screen (WITH PHOTO)

My Imac froze earlier today as I was dragging an image from safari into indesig and when it froze the weirdest pattern overlaid the screen. It looked just like the opacity pattern from photoshop with grey and white squares. I turned the computer off using the power button and unplugged everything.
Now when I try to start it these weird lines appear on my start up screen (see link)...
    http://meijerladdaruppgrejer.wordpress.com/2012/07/24/oops/
as you can see the apple and the wheel appears as normal...
... then it moves to a normal looking white screen (perhaps a bit greener than usual) and around 30 seconds later freezes at the blue screen.
    I've tried the cmd + alt + p + r several times but it won't help.
If i press alt during start up I can see and choose my hard drive but just end up at the blue screen again.
Can I try starting it up in safe mode or something?
    Thanks! Any input is welcome.

Is this the same problem? Verical Lines" seems a bit diffuse. I've seached for a similar question and found a lot of other types of lines and stripes.
    Could this be a solution?

If so, how do I install the update if I can't get passed the blue screen? Can I start my Imac in safe mode? How?
iMac (Mid 2011): Unresponsive white screen on startup or vertical lines on screen
    Symptoms
In certain circumstances, your iMac (Mid 2011) may become unresponsive on startup, with a white or gray background on the display. You may also notice vertical lines on the display while using your iMac.
    Resolution
Install the iMac Graphics Firmware Update 2.0 if your computer exhibits these issues. To install the update, chooseSoftware Update from the Apple () menu and follow the onscreen instructions.
Important: Do not interrupt the power to the computer while the update is installing. After the update is finished installing, you will need to restart your iMac.

  • Macbook turns on then goes to blue screen and sits with active pointer

First of all, I have a Inter 13" macbook pro with a 128gb ssd. It has the Snow Leppard and it is updated. Now for the problem. I was working on my computer going to unzip something and the little multicolored spinning wheel come up. It just sat and sat. Well, i finally had to turn it off by holding the power button down. When it went to restart, it came to the gray screen and enede up on a blue screen with nothing on it but the pointer. I could move it around. I have been reading and have turned on while holding command shift and p and r or something like that to reset the ram. That was one idea that i have come across. It didn't work. I have went in safe mode and deleted the most recent program that i was trying to unzip. It never got unzipped, but i deleted it anyway. Still does nothing. I got in safe mode again and went to the disk utility and verified and fixed the permissions. It didn't say any were bad, but i went ahead and run the the permissions anyway. I am running out of things to think of. This is my first mac and it has been great untill now. Thanks for any help. Josh R.

    Hello:
This is Apple's blue screen guidance. You have done some of it, but see if it helps.

  • I Mac won't start -- we get apple logo with spinning wheel, question mark that disappears and then a blank blue screen

My daughter's old I Mac won't start. It is not backed up.  We want to get some things off of it if we can.
When we turn it on, we get the Apple logo with spinning wheel for awhile, then a question mark briefly and then a sky blue blank screen.  Is there any hope of getting this to work?  This computer is out of warranty.  Does it seem that if we reinstall the Operating System we might find old data?

First try restarting with the original install disc an run Disk Utility to repair the drive. If you have to re install the OS make sure you select archive and install or else everything will be lost.

  • Clock randomly jumps ahead 6 hours

anyone else have this happen...and any ideas why?

This is pretty odd. The phone should detect your time zone, but it is possible that it may not be getting that information right from AT&T.
Have you tried to manually set your time zone in setting>general>date & time?
toggle set automatically to off and choose your Time Zone.

  • HT4576 My time zone is 3 hours behind and won't allow me to change it.  Even when I turned it off the clock time is 3 hours behind!

The instructions given did not work,  I'm still 3 hours behind.  What do I do to get it back to Eastern Standard Time?  It changed when I updated yesterday

  • Help with time issue needed.  World Clock times 1hr ahead of correct time

although the time on the iPhone home screen is right (top of screen). That is, since I'm in central time, the iPhone shows, say 5:14 (time now) but a city in World Clock in central zone shoes 6:14. Other cities in other zones are off by the +1hour amount. Many calls to Apple and AT&T, now the finger pointing has started.
Multiple phones in my location have the same problem. All three in our family, two owned by a colleague and 2 on display at the AT&T store.
The problem clears up when I'm well out of the area, say Nashville or Bowling Green but reappears when I'm back home in West Kentucky. AT&T says their network is fine, must be the phone or app; Apple says since multiple phones with several versions of the operating system are showing the issue, must be AT&T.
    Ideas?

I am having the same issue (clocks not matching) with my iPod Classic. Definitely not an AT&T issue!

  • Inspiron 15R N5010 Noise then crashes with blue screen and shuts down.

I have heard this is a common problem with dell laptops. And it has never been addressed to. I'm hoping to get a clear cut answer here.
The issue is already mentioned here by many users, and all over the web too.
    Please,
I would like to know if it can be fixed, or should I scrap my  Laptop, since its onboard graphics.
In case its a driver issue,
Can you also point me to a post where this matter has been addressed to successfully.
I've performed diagnostics  many times. After a few tries it gets the laptop going for a while. Then the problem appears again.
    Thanks

If it beeps then read this article:  HP BIOS beep codes.
Try this bootable memory diagnostic disk:  Download memtest86 iso file and burn it to disk using Imgburn.
    Try this procedure:
Unplug the PC and open it up. Clean out all the dust. Carefully remove and replace all the cables going to the motherboard one at a time. Do the same for the memory dimms and the video and sound cards if you have any. Plug your PC back in a give it a go.
You might want to inspect your motherboard for heat damage using a flashlight.

  • Why is Encore 6.0 giving me the "blue screen of death" when I try to create a menu?

When I purchased my student edition 6.0 (which I love by the way), Encore did not have any of the libraries loaded up on it. After reading some discussions, I downloaded the missing folders.
Now, when I try to create a menu, my computer shuts down and gives me "the blue screen of death" as they call it (a blue screen with white writting, counting up to 100%, and saying Windows is preparing to crash...or something about the hard drive crashing....I can't remember because it goes off the screen so quickly).
I've done this several times - my computer only does this when I try to create a menu in encore, and not in any other part of encore. It hasn't happened in any of the other programs either (Premiere Pro and Audition are the only other programs I have used so far), or any other times I have my laptop.
Because of this, I am not too concerned since it seems Encore is the problem. However, I do not want any other problems to escalade from this either.
Am I doing something wrong? Can someone please help me? I'm working on my Senior Thesis (a video) this year, and I really really cannot afford to have my computer crash on me.
    Please and thank you,
    Meghin

  • IMac taking ten minutes to start up and sits at a blue screen for the most of the time. Also, when it goes into sleep mode I am unable to wake it up from it.

For the past few days now whenever I go to turn on my iMac it takes roughly ten or more minutes to boot up. For the portion of this time it sits on a blank blue screen. At first it comes up to a plain white screen which after about 30 seconds has the apple logo on it and the spinning circle for about a minute then to the blue screen, every time. Then, to top it off right when this started happening another problem began occurring. The computer is set to go into sleep mode after 15 minutes of no use. But, if it is in sleep mode for too long I am unable to get it out and I have to restart the entire computer, but if it is just for a few seconds into sleep or a minute I am able to get the screen to come back. I can still here the fan running and such so I don't know what is going on. I have searched through discussion after discussion. I have tried: repairing disks, repairing permissions, starting up in safe mode, and such. There has been no luck so far. I was wondering if anyone could offer insight into fixing at least one of these problems since my schooling relies on the computer.
By the way I this is an iMac 10.6.4 refurbished which we just bought about two weeks ago.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

My iMac i7 quad was having the same symptoms with the blue screen and long startup times a couple of months ago.  Apple Care told me to bring it in to the local Apple Store, and after some diagnostics, the hard drive required replacing.  It took one day to replace the hard drive and my iMac is running great. I only had the iMac for about 12 months when the drive needed to be replaced.  Not sure if that is your Mac's problem, but it was for mine.

  • A6518f turn on diagnostic page then windows is loading files then blue screen and unresponsive

Pavilion a6518f, Turn power on get diagnostic sreen, then get windows is loading files, then get a blue screen with a big arrow cursor and thats all...non responsive

Troubledguy, welcome to the forum.  We'll try to get you smiling again.
When I hear these symptoms, I consider two main components: 1) the hard drive and 2) the memory.  Here is a guide to help you run the SMART test on the hard drive from the BIOS.  It will tell you if the hard drive is failing or has failed.  You can test the memory by removing all of the modules and replacing them one at a time and booting.  Place the single module in the slot closest to the processor.
