Can anyone tell me how to take a custom 30 second clip of my video and use it as the background of the menu and submenu? Or point me in the direction of a tutorial as I have watched all the ones on Adobe.com. Thanks!

You might have a layer that is covering up the video layer. I don't use the layer tools in Encore, but in Photoshop, find the video layer and see if there is somethign other than text and buttons above it. If you are not clear, turn off the visibility of each layer above to see if anything is covering it.
I once found that adding a background layer and not deleting the original (and renaming my layer correctly) created the sort of problem you are seeing.

Change Background in Menu Creation Encore CS4 and Photoshop

I am creating a menu using Encore and Photoshop. I Used the Encore Libray to create a blank background and also created a series of buttons adusting them in Photoshop CS4. However, when I try to change the background with a new jpg or psd file I open the picture in Photoshop but not as the new background layer I am trying to achieve. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

There should be no problem when adding the image of your choice, with Edit in Photoshop.
When you choose Edit in Photoshop, several things happen:
1.) a TMP PSD for that Menu is created.
2.) links are created between En and PS
3.) PS is launched, and that TMP PSD is then Opened in PS.
When one has edited that TMP PSD in PS, they must do a Save to allow those links back to En*.
If you are doing a Save_As, or Save_As_a_Copy, those links will NOT be followed, and the Menu will NOT update in En.

I have encountered some instances, where a single Save does not follow those links. With experimentation, I have found that 3 Saves (Ctrl+S) will force those links to be followed, and the Menu updated in En. Not sure why this happens sometimes, but 3 seems to be the "magic number," at least for me.

I am facing a problem when I am trying run my addon in SAP 8.81 PL05 and Pl 06 but it is running ok upto PL04.It is giving erron menu creation failed randomly.I have searched the forums regarding this problem and in forums it is written that it is a bug of SAP.But i have to communicate with the client regarding this matter so it will be better if somebody give me a link or document where from SAP side there is a clarification on this.I need this urgent so please help me to find a way.

Properties - automatic menu creation

Hi there,
I'm currently working on a project that is frequently being changed and therefore I require a method to facilitate the creation of its menu.
I am hoping to use a properties file to describe the contents of the menu and also which Actions each menu item will use.
Does anyone out there have any code that exhibits this sort of behaviour, since I am having a bit of trouble in creating a robust system to do this; currently I have:
a Properties file such as:
# start of properties file
menus = file edit # all of the menus
menuitems = open open_recent save new global_options # the menu items
file.children = open open_recent save new # the menu items of the file menu
edit.children = global_options # the menu items of the edit menu
open.text = Open # the text to appear on the menu item
open.action = OpenAction # there is a class called OpenAction which provides the behaviour of this menu item
open.gif = open.gif # the icon gif file for this menu item
# .. now do the same for each other menu item
# end of properties file
Now in the source code I iterate through this file and store all of the menus and menu items in a hash table. Using the menu.children bit above I add the relationships of menu items (or other menus) to the menus. Then I add the text, action, and gif to the menu items.
However, this way kind of works but is quite long winded; also it bumps into problems whenever I add menus to menus.
If some one out there has previously done this before and are willing to share their code with me I would be ever so grateful. Else any suggestions would be extremely well received.

What we are using for dynamic menu creation is XML.
Something Like:

Menu Creation in PE12

Is the menu creation any different in PE12 compared to 11? I was very unhappy with the low resolution DVD menus and Blu-ray (just aweful) menus when creating my own custom menus using my high resolution pictures. Really Adobe is this all you can give us in PE11? Power Director 12 creates beautiful high resolution custom menus but the drawback was interlaced DVD?! I want to use Adobe for progressive DVDs if they can get the menus to look decent. Any help is appreciated.

All the s and w psd sets are at Image Size 720 x 576 whether the project is NTSC or PAL. The hd set is typically 1440 x 1080. More on that another time. What is the original pixel dimensions of these photo inserts for the disc menu? What version of Photoshop do you intend to create these menus in?

Just upgraded to CS3 and, consequently, following the herd to
Dreamweaver.
Could anyone recommend a Mac-based menu creation plugin that
might work as well as MenuMachine?

I'm not familiar with MenuMachine, but you might find a menu

Hi,
I have run into a Coldfusion problem that I was hoping you
could help me with.
What I am trying to solve is the dynamic creation of at least
5 levels of categories for a menu built with Coldfusion, and if
possible an infinite amount of levels.
Each of these also if it is at the end of the tree will have
to have products under it aswell the category will only show up if
there is products under it.
To acomplish this I have created a database table called
"Categories" which contains the fields shown in the linked
spreadsheet. I am using the "cat_parent" to hold the value of the
parent of the current record. When the parent is a top level menu
item I have assigned this a cat_parent id of "0". Using this method
I am able to do a self join on the table (where "cat_parent" =
"cat_id") to extract the relationship between parent and child
records throughout the table. This works fine. And I have created
output for 5 levels of display.
There are 3 issues left that I could not work out.
- Firstly my coding method loops through each node of the
tree with one query to create each category of the menu. This means
one query per menu category and as the client could have up to 200
categories in the menu and I am concerned that the solution that I
have come up with is too processor intensive.
- Secondly the way that I have created the category menu is
hard coding in the levels needed so there is only 5 not an infinite
amount which would be preferable but is not essential.
- Finally I could not work out how to not create "parents" in
the tree if there is no products for the end child category.
Meaning that if there is for example a category > subcategory
> subsubcategory but there is no products associated with the
end category - "subsubsubcategory" then it's parent and so on will
not display until one of them has products.
Here
is a link to a zip file that includes: the cfc that contains
the query function (categories.cfc), the page that is creating the
categories menu (lefnav.cfm), a simple cfc that contains a products
query just for testing (products.cfc) along with a spreadsheet of
the Categories table's fields.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

ADF - managed bean error in dynamic menu creation

scenario:
to create dynamic menu for two tabs : general..
general has a subtabmenu in form of menubar wid items: country, city,...
i created dynamic menus for my application.wen i ran my page i got this error:
SEVERE: Managedbean menuItem_General could not be created Can't get value from value binding expression:

(erms.menu.gen is an entry in UIResources.properties)

looking at code it seems that you are adding textview and inputfield. please check in debugging if the correct context node/attribute is being created and you are providing its reference while adding UI elements.

I have a XML file which is a dynamic one..It is generated from a tool..I need to parse that xml and generate a menu accordingly in a jsp.In menu the data to be displayed comes from thie hierarchical xml file which is a dynamic one..Siblings and child notes are not fixed..it all generates at rum by some other tool.
Please help me to tell any logic to create such a dynamic menu ...i am using Dom parser to parse that..

Dynamic Menu Creation Problem

I am trying to implement a dynamic JSF menu, by coding for it in a request bean, and have hit a stumbling block with regards to adding a panelMenu to another panelMenu. I understand how to add outputLink and outputText to the menu and even how to add another panelMenu to the menu.

This is running on Websphere v7. I can see from the specification that the outputText for the submenu (text1) should have a surrounding facet, but I cannot find such an object anywhere. I have tried using FacetTag but this doesn't work as it hasn't got a children property to attach the outputText to it.
Am I missing something or is it that this is the wrong way?
Any help would be appreciated!

DVD Menu Creation

When creating a menu with text in Photoshop, Indesign, whatever..
Once we bring the file into DVD Pro.. the text looks jaggid and horrible..
Can anyone tell me why?
The menus were created at 720 x540 and it's a SIMPLE MENU.. Nothing crazy whatsoever. We have a main layer with text, and an overlay layer which changes the text color. SO SIMPLE!
Can someone telll me why DVD Pro does this to the text? Squishes What do you have to do in order to have clean, crisp text without using the type tool in the program?

Menu Creation and Using the SELECT soft key

Hi,
I am trying to design a menu similar to the thumbnail menus available in most phone these days.what i want is a set of icons placed in a tabular format ie rows and colums. the joystick control can be used to navigate thru the icons and using the select soft key ie the middle button of the soft keys, the next set of forms can be displayed.
so far, i have created a form, used a few image item and used the Item's layout directive to arrange the imageItem as i want on the display. I can get the joystick to navigate between the imageItems however the select button doesnt fire any event.
I have added a command to each of the items and set an ItemCommandListener.
That approach seems to be working fine but it defeats my purpose. the reason being i had problems with the mapping of the command keys. For each display i had an option of going to the main menu and to the next screen. On the emulator it maps perfectly with the left key having the main menu and the right key having the "next form" button. But while implementing on the phone, the left key has the main menu but the right key shows "more options", when u click more options you get the "next form" button. This is happening in every form on display and makes it more tideous to use.
Thats why i was hoping to get the select button working if possible. Any help would be much appreciated.

Menu Creations in Premiere Elements 7

Why can't I add a menu template? I followed the steps correctly and I still can't add a menu, what's wrong?

Just a few thoughts before you decide to contact Adobe T/SAt this point, I also cannot judge if you have a serious problem with Premiere Elements 7 or if you are misunderstanding how to apply a DVD Menu to your project.
Does Import Media = you have used Get Media to bring media into the Project View/Media and have dragged it from there to the Timeline, applied some scene markers there, then hit Disc Menus OR have you just left the media in Project View/Media, nothing to the Timeline, and then hit Disc Menus? However, whether or not any thing is on the Timeline, you should still be getting a DVD Menu in the Disc Menus Monitor after you select a Menu and hit Apply.

I was going to ask if you highlighted (blue rectangle) the Menu of choice, but, since you said that you clicked on Apply, I am further assuming that you did highlight the choice and therefore had an active (not grayed out) Apply Button.
After you hit Apply, did you get any message or dialogs, like:

Automatically Set Menu Scene Markers
At this point, in the bin below the Disc Menus Monitor, you should see a Main Menu and a Scene Menu. Which ever one of those is selected in the bin will be the one that is showing in the Monitor. So, when you say No menu would appear, are you saying that there were no menu images in the Monitor and/or the bin?
By any chance, are you looking for the DVD Menu to appear on the Timeline? You are never going to see the Main Menu or the Scene Menu on the Timeline of the program. You can edit the menu in the Disc Menus Monitor and check its button workings in the Monitor by pressing Preview.
Again, please excuse if I have asked inappropriate questions, but I was not sure what was happening or not happening in your situation.
