Menu problems - changing background video length to fit audio

Hi,
I've been struggling for hours (feels like weeks!) trying to adjust the background video length to match the audio length on my encore menu to prevent the white screen appearing once the background video has finished.
Having read through some previous questions on here I see the general advice is to adjust the audio length to match the video length but is there really no way of doing it the other way around?
I tried editing the background video in premier pro, and managed to do that effectively so it was identical in length to the audio track, however then I couldn't work out how to export it back into encore so it would use it as a menu.
I'm still getting to grips with all the software so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!!
Liz

Hi jsbman,
Thanks for your reply, I'm not sure I was totally clear about what I am trying to do. Basically I have a menu image with background video that currently runs on a loop of 16 seconds, and I have an audio file (song) that lasts 3 minutes and also loops. I can put the audio on the menu fine as long as I have menu with no background video but if I try and have both it runs but then goes to a white menu screen after the 16 second loop while the audio continues to the end.
I understand from what I have read that the audio track and video background need to be the same length (I guess so they can loop together or something) and to edit the audio track down to 16 seconds makes it pretty pointless in using. This is why I have been trying to increase the background video to the same length as the audio track. They will then both loop until play is pressed on the remote for the DVD to start.
I forgot to say in my original post I am using CS4, with Windows 7 - I'm not sure if that makes a difference.
Any ideas welcome!
Thanks
Liz

  • Problems changing the video type in iTunes 8

Just downloaded the new iTunes 8 this morning.
Having trouble changing a video from a "Movie" to a "TV Show".
In the previous iTunes version you would just right click, Get Info, click the Video tab, and a drop-down menu would be available to change from Movie, to TV Show, to Music Video. This feature seems to have vanished now. Why?
So now every time I import a .mp4 file into iTunes it automatically sets it as a Movie. Any tips on changing this?
    Thanks!

Thanks so much - greatly appreciated.

  • Compressor 4 Changing my video length

I'm creating digital signage files using Motion and then exporting the file as a .mov file. When I use Compressor 4 to convert the .mov files to .mpeg 2 files, the length is changed in the video either adding black to the end or cutting the video off before it is finished. I've used older version of Compressor and never had this problem. I'm guessing there is a setting to be changed somewhere to fix this, but can't seem to find the solution. Any help would be very appreciated.

This is very strange, but I'll explain and see if it means anything as to why this is happening. I just bought a new iMac and bought new applications and the whole works. The new machine is where this timing problem is happening between Motion and Compressor.
I have a 3yr old Macbook Pro with my older applications that has worked fine for years.
In my frustration just now, I was taking my .mov files that were exported on the new iMac to older Macbook Pro to use compressor on that machine - assuming that would solve the problem. It did solve the problem, but I discovered that the files I was working with play differently on each machine.
There are two files. One is a 30 second mpeg and the other is a 45 second mpeg. On the Macbook Pro, they play just as they are supposed to. On the new iMac, the 30 second file stops at 27 seconds and the 45 second file plays for 1:30 showing black after the initial 45 seconds.
Does that make any sense at all? I'm stumped. Both files were built, exported and compressed the very same way.
    Thanks again for any insight.

  • Problem changing background

    Hi
My MacBook started to act weird today. I was trying to change the background and when I select that menu on System Preferences or even by clicking in my desktop the menu opens, but it crashes and gives me the error log every time.
If you want I can post it, but it's pretty long.
    Can you help please?
    Thanks

Then, there's a conflict or corruption in the original account, usually amongst the preference files. Open the new account's /Library/Preferences/ and note what's in there and in the ByHost subfolder. Log back into that account, move the Preferences folder out of /Users/username/Library/ onto the Desktop, log out and back in (note all preferences have been reset to defaults. Ensure that things that didn't work before work now. Open the moved folder and slowly move things from it back to original, replacing the new ones noted in the newly created user account. Log out and back in, check that those previously broken things still work. Continue to do that until you identify the conflicting or corrupted item(s). 'Tis a long and laborious process, but will do the trick. When you're satisfied things are back to normal, delete the moved folder and its contents.

  • Slowing text scroll without changing background clip length?

I have an intro to my movie that uses a sound clip from a song.  The sound clip is 30 seconds long, so my video clip must be 30 sec long (the sound actually carries over into my next clip).  I am using the text scroll to flash the title and a quotation onto the screen, but I want it to move at about half the speed it currently is.
I have tried slow motion but that doesn't work.  I have also added lots of spaces between lines but it still moves faster than I want.  So is there anyway we can slow that text scroll down to a reasonable speed?
    Thanks in advance
    Pat

drag the ends of the Title to the length of the clip.
If this is still too fast, remember 6th grade:
    speed = length + time
if there's not enough time, it can not get any slower

  • Problems capturing DV video that has 32k audio

While capturing in a project that has a basic set up for DV/PAL 48kz, I keep getting warnings after capture, that the frequency of my captured material does not match my project settings and there might be synchro problems with my audio later!
My problem is that if I can change my sequence set up to 32k - a frequency that seemingly matches the video I am trying to capture (showing on my video monitor what I think is the 32kz info) I cannot find how to actually _set up the project for audio at 32k_ . For PAL video, the only choice I have seems to be for audio at 48kz.
I am getting confused and my audio not in sync...
Anybody could unconfuse and re-sync me ?
    Thanks

From the menu bar: Final Cut Pro > Audio/Video Settings > Capture Presets.
You will see that the setting for DV PAL has a lock next to it, to indicate that it cannot be changed.
Click on Duplicate. You can now make the changes that you need.
Match those settings to what you shot.

  • Problem Synchronizing Multiple Video Clips to One Audio Clip

So i recently shot some video for a cool project I have coming up however I am having issues with Synchronizing the Audio and Videot together in Final Cut Pro X. I have used Final Cut Pro X since Day 1 that it came out and I thought I had a pretty good grasp on how Synchronizing Clips and MultiCam worked. I record my audio separately so in the past I would start recording on the TasCam Recorder (Wireless lav set up) I have, start recording on the DSLR and end up with both a video and audio clip. I would take these into Final Cut Pro and highlight both and use the "Synchronize Clips" command to pair them both into a single clip and then turn off the natural audio from the DSLR and begin my cuts. I thought I had done this with multiple clips before without issue but I seem to have a problem now.
Yesterday I shot 50 interviews. I pressed record on the Audio Recorder in the beggining and let it run for the full 2 hours, giving me one long audio file. Instead of wasting video space on my CF Card, I started and stopped recording for each of the 50 interviewees. My goal and what I thought would work was to highlight all 50 video clips and the 1 audio clip and say Synchronize Clips. This did not work. Upon looking at the Synchronize Clips in depth, i noticed that it synched all of my video stacked in the beggining in the first couple minutes. It didn't sync all of my clips, it merely just put them in the same timeline all up front.
I then tried to highlight all and do the same thing with MultiCam, however thought it matched a few more clips, it still had an issue of not synching the way I was hoping for.
I was wondering if anyone has had this issue in the past and what they might have done to fix it. Does FCPX have a limit on the number of clips it can Synchronize? Does anyone have any ideas for workflow for synchronizing all of these clips? In the future upcoming shoots should i resort back to starting and stopping audio recording the same way I start and stop video recording and then pairing individual interviews later?

So i just read this in the support for FCPX
Final Cut Pro analyzes the clips for sync points such as markers you’ve added, timecode, file creation date, and audio content. If no sync points can be found, the clips are synced at their respective starting points.
This is what I am aiming for , however not what I am getting. The piece about how the clips sync via timecode, markers, and creation date/time intrigue me though. There is no timecode cause my external audio is just a wav file, but maybe I can get it to sync better via markers? Has anyone else had this issue? Maybe my audio file being close to 2 hours is too long?

  • Photoshop menu changes when video is applied.

    This is encore CS6
I have been trying to figure this out for a while and can't seem to. I have a photoshop menu consisting of a white background with text and a couple images. I created a video to apply to the menu.
On its own, the menu is fine, but when I link it to the video, the menu gets thin black bars on the edges and the video seems to show through a sliver at the bottom. This totally boggles me because I noticed the video peaking through behind the menu, so I cropped the video in PP, re-exported it and it re-appears in Encore as no-cropped and showing thru at the bottom again. Anyways, the main issue probably has something to do with the Photoshop menu not being as big as the video file in dimension or having a different pixel aspect ratio. Though I played around with the PARs in Photoshop to no avail.
    I'd appreciate the help.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Stan,
That information may very well help me. I don't believe I ever used a layer other than the one called "background". But thats good to know.
I created a solution to the black edges and sliver of video at the bottom. I created a menu from within Encore (the "Rose Menu HD" menu), clicked on the "edit menu in photoshop" and simply modified that rose menu in photoshop to look like it needed to (like my other menus). This way I was gauranteed that the basics of the menu would be right when it came to size and par.
The jittering issue is still there. But I did narrow it down to being a problem with the video background. I know this because I created two of the same menus on a test DVD, one with a video background (which ended up jittering) and one without a video background. The one without a video did not jitter at all.
    Thanks.
    Neil,
what do I do after saving a TIFF image from the video?
Open Photoshop & from the "File/New" dialogue create a DVD menu (there is a section for this called - from memory - "film & TV" although this may vary depending on version) in the style you want (NTSC Widescreen - not Square Pixel version) and this gets you a base with guides.
NOw get the paint bucket out & make the background black.
Open your TIFF file, and drag the image from the "layers" tab into the DVD menu template.
If it is too large, move it until you can see a corner & poress CTRL/T and turn the imported still into a smart object.
Hold down the SHIFT key & drag the top left corner down to the bottom right, and when you run out of space stop dragging & slide the image back up to the top left again.
Repeat until it fits onto your background & then select the usual pointer tool & select "apply transformation".
That is now your background sorted.
When you say "jitter", I suspect you mean flicker, as Jitter is caused by bad clocking & is a very different thing.
Check field orders - are you using HD to DVD? If so be very careful with field order issues. If the video is Progressive you should be okay but if it is compressed MPEG-2 Transport Streams or similar it will almost certainly be Upper Field First whereas the transcode for DVD will probably be Lower Field First.

  • Menu-Background Video starts again, when choosing Menubutton

I've recently changed from WIN Encore CS3 to MAC Encore CS4 and am now facing some Problems...
My newest challenge: When trying out my menu in preview mode,
the video which is supposed to play peacefully in the background of the menu starts new - every time i select another menubutton (via keyboard or mouse)the background video starts from the beginning... normally as i know it, it should continue until looping point (which it does, when no control is touched)
I have no idea - is there another feature in the MAC version i do not know or is it a "new feature" in CS4 which renders my CS3/WIN experience worthless?
I am thankful for any hint, i'm clueless where to look

    >a reliable preview helps a lot...
I agree, but in general, a preview in any DVD authoring software is just a simulation of a DVD player, and not the real thing.
It is always best authoring policy to burn a rewritable disc and test it in a player. That is the most reliable testing method.

Subject: Change Background in Menu Creation  Encore CS4 and Photoshop
There should be no problem when adding the image of your choice, with Edit in Photoshop.
When you choose Edit in Photoshop, several things happen:
1.) a TMP PSD for that Menu is created.
2.) links are created between En and PS
3.) PS is launched, and that TMP PSD is then Opened in PS.
When one has edited that TMP PSD in PS, they must do a Save to allow those links back to En*.
If you are doing a Save_As, or Save_As_a_Copy, those links will NOT be followed, and the Menu will NOT update in En.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
I have encountered some instances, where a single Save does not follow those links. With experimentation, I have found that 3 Saves (Ctrl+S) will force those links to be followed, and the Menu updated in En. Not sure why this happens sometimes, but 3 seems to be the "magic number," at least for me.

  • Background video in animated menu.

Have searched around the forums but can't find a definite answer to this.
I created an animated menu in After Effects with a background motion loop video.
Total length of 30 secs with button highlight appearing after 13 secs.
If I set the loop point in Encore for approx 14 secs the animated menu and button highlightetc all works ok
but the motion video in the background also stops at this point.
I assume this is probably correct but if not can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?
Alternatively, if it is correct, are there any tricks which would allow the background video loop to continue for the full 30secs?
Hope I have explained this clearly enough.
    Thanks .

Did you use any of these? If not, take a peek to see if you did it right. (I'm wondering if your still menu is covering the motion in AE.)

  • How to create background video in a persistent menu template

I'm working on an Extras project which requires a background video to be played in the menus. I can start the background video as suggested in this post https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5276546?tstart=0 but I can't get the video to play after returning from playing the feature. I think the event "iTunes Video Did Close" should be used to implement this action but I have no luck using it with the background layer. The event works fine if used in a normal page. Any input on this problem would be appreciated
    Note:
The problem can be solved if I can somehow access the background video in the background layer using JavaScript (so I can fire the event in a normal page and start the playback using JavaScript) but I don't know how. Can anyone help me with this too?

This is very simple. It's two copies of the layer. The bottom (back) one has been scaled up with a blur effect.

After more digging in the Support section here and some Google work, I turned off iTunes Match and lo and behold!  I can change the media kind to Audiobook!  So, it looks like iTunes Match locked the files up somehow and for some reason.
I went into iTunes Store > iTunes Match > "No, Thanks" to disable it on the local PC.

  • How do I add mpg background video behind a psd menu in Encore?

How do I add mpg background video behind a psd menu in Encore? The psd file is transparent and it still comes out as pitch black behind the menu. I'm inexperienced with these products so any help is greatly appreciated.

If you have done what Russ describes and it does not work...
Encore replaces the background layer with your motion video. So make sure you have a) a layer at the bottom (in Photoshop layer order) that is named "background," and b) no other full layer above that (for example, an image in another layer you've used instead of the original background layer).
Also keep in mind that setting transparency in Photoshop is overridden by various Encore processes.
