Menu size still exceeds limits (Encore CS5.1)

My project has 12 menus, each with a few seconds of video (longest is 30 sec) and a whole song. Initially, I used to .avi and .wav files, but then discovered the 1GB menu limit and changed the videos to .m2v in Premiere and AE and changed the audio to .mp3 in Audition. I deleted the large files from the project and even removed them from the project’s file directory (saw that tip somewhere). But the “total menu size exceeds limit” error won’t go away. Is there a way to find the menu sizes? They don't show in the Project or Properties tabs. Any other ideas on what may be causing the error?

DVD spec limits the total amount of content for menus etc (menu itself, highlights, motion) to 1 gig. This is the size after it is all processed. Encore predicts how large that will be when it has finished processing, and warns you when that size will be too large.
Changing the sizes of the source files for motion assets, sound, etc, does not help your end result. You set the properties for Encore to use to process in the project setting "default transcode." And in DVD, you have only the choice of the maximum video plus audio bitrate. I do believe you will reduce the size of the menu total by reducing that max, but you will also reduce quality.
It is important that your project setting is for ac3 audio.
Your problem, it seems to me, is that a menu wth a "whole song," that also has video, even if short, and multiplied by 12 such menus, is using a huge amount of space for that content.
You can control some of that if you use highlight only menus, and render the menu background ahead into m2v's and a3c. But that can be difficult.
To experiment, "save as" your project, then remove the video from all your motion menus. If you still get the "menu exceeds limit," your audio alone is a problem.

  • Encore CS5.1 menu library cleared when Encore CS6 menu library installed

When I installed the Encore functional content (menu libs...) from the CS6 disk the menu libs were installed in Encore CS6 -and- the menu libraries were removed from Encore CS5.1. The menu libraries are not a separate load on Encore CS5.1. If this is expected how do I recover the lost menus?
    Ed B

The solution to this issue would be - copy the cs6 library from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Encore CS6\Library and place it at another loacation and rename it.
Now uninstall the CS6 Content and reinstall the 5.1 FC using the disc or the downloded FC you have. In this way you will recover back your 5.1 FC and can also use the 6.0 FC by pointing Encore to its location. I tried it and this works
And this problem will no longer be faced once the downloadble version of CS6 FC will be available.

  • Encore CS5 Menu Problems

Allow me to begin by saying thank you in advance for any and all help. Please know I am a marine biologist first and a video editor second so I'll apologize for my elementary questions.
2011 macbook pro, 8gb ram, all working files (connected assets) are on the hard drive, Panasonic BD burner connected firewire 800, Encore CS5
    This is a blu-ray project.
I have created a movie that has only 2 menus. The main menu and a chapter selction menu.
The menus have a video file playing in the background with text generated from the video editor appearing 10 seconds in. This menu is very basic...video background with 3 buttons overlayed on top placed where the text appears. Of these buttons, one plays the main movie, another plays a behind the scenes, and the last directs the user to the chapter selection menu.
The video files for the menu background were transcoded in Media Manager to Blu-ray h.264 and imported assets as .m4v video and .ac3 audio.
The actual movie files are also imported in this same manner and are working fine.
Preview works fine except where indicated below in the form of the background video being in poor quality.
    Problem:
When the disc is inserted into a blu-ray player, the main menu background video looks worse than standard def videos. At the loop point set for the buttons to "appear and activate" (10sec) the video freezes, screen turns black for just a split second (literally, split second) then re-appears normally with all buttons working fine, the video plays accordingly but is still in bad quality. The buttons work as supposed to and the movies they're connected to are brilliantly played in blu-ray quality without any problems.
On the chapter selection menu, the same applys to the background  video where it plays in poor quality but the problem here is again at the loop point but has a different action. At the time of the loop point (again 10sec) the video stops, then jumps back to the beginning of the Chapter menu and starts over again. It does this over and over, never allowing me to get to the buttons for chapter selection. It just loops back to the beginning of the same menu. The only way to stop this is to press the main menu button on the remote to get back to the main menu.
    So...2 things:
    1) howcome the background videos in the menus are in bad quality? Do know in the preview, the background videos are in the good quality sometimes. In other words, when I press the preview, sometimes the videos are shown in good quality, and sometimes they're not. I onced "fixed" it when it previewed in poor quality by disconnecting the wip to the asset, then reconnecting it. It played fine in the preview once but then the next time I previewed it, it was in poor quality.
    2) why are there 2 different glitches at the loop points on the menus. Both menus are identical in properties, not in asset connections. As a matter of fact, the chapter menu was created by copy/pasting the main menu, changing the assets, and using more buttons (these buttons were also copy/paste from the main menu buttons but have different links). Also know that in preview, the loop points work just fine and the buttons appear without a problem, but the video quality is diminished as with the main menu.
2 Burn processes tried and have identical problems:
I created discs using 2 methods and the problems are identical in both. I burned a blu-ray disc directly from Encore which exhibited these problems. I also made a folder and burned the BDMV file in Toast Titanium Pro 10 and also have these same identcal problems. I did make an .iso file also, but don't know how to test that on a blu-ray disc. I am using BD-RE discs so that I don't waste a lot of money.
Please help. I am in crunch time and have less than 2 weeks to complete this and get 100 discs burned.
Thank you again for reading this and for any and all help.
    Charlie

    Hi Charlie,
about loop point frezees (black video), no way out, sorry: this is an Encore CS5 bug and we all are waiting for the brand new CS5.5.
Jon Jeddes has tried to find a solution with other sws support but he met lot of difficulties.
About your low definition results, it could depend by many things.
Don't know Media Manager, but, usually, low definitions are related to low bitrates (check yours are at least 25 Mb per second).
    Hope this will help.
    Ciao

  • Encore CS5 Popup Menu Capabilities

I understand how to create pop-up menus from PSDs in Encore CS5. Are there any capabilities for things like a timeline bar with current position, sound effects for buttons, etc? It also most seems like, besides being able to put a popup menu in a Blu-ray, you don't get much more than DVD menu abilities.

    Hi Nick,
We are in the process of releasing a new Macintosh application designed to work with Encore to add additional functionality.
    http://www.rivergatesoftware.com/
The new features include true emulated playback with command execution tracing , and command editing to add scriptability, We are also working on templates that will demonstrate the best features of multi-page Encore menus.
Unfortunately BluStreak Tracer will not offer the ability to do menu timeline editing or button sounds. Also not supported are button animations and button groups. Button sounds, animations, and groups are something we would like to add in the future, but our hands are full right now.
There are other professional solutions besides Scenarist and BluPrint coming to the fore. NetBlender DoStudio is "only" $3-5k, depending on features, and is being used to do many of the independent releases today. DVDLogic has a menu creation and editing system, and indeed a complete authoring solution in the works. All of these are PC only.
We are Macintosh only. But if you remember, in the early days of DVD most serious authors used both Mac and PC, and our software has always worked with build folders from any authoring application.
    Regards,
    Larry

  • Encore CS5 menu duplicate

I'm working on a setup that when the menu hits its end (music) that it playes the next video, and that video goes to a version of the main menu where the next item is highlighted, and at the end of that version of the menu it goes to play the next video. Its very nice that CS5 allows menu duplication (over CS3's "General Error") but the duplicate has its layers of items reversed. I threw out the duplicates and made new ones, and it repeats.
I suspect I can go manually move them into proper order in Photoshop; but I shouldn't have to? Also in the duplicates, the numers of the buttons are also reversed with the layers.
    Encore CS5 5.0.0.508
System:  Professional, Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)

I have sync button text selected but not set name from link. The change was immediate. The links were not broken, button 1 was at the bottom vs the top.
I was able to quickly fix in in PS and it worked fine (adjusting the placement of the group not the text). In a later adjustment I had to duplicate the menu yet again; the duplicate of the PS fixed menu didn't have any problems. I don't know where this one lives. The original menu item originated in PS and was placed into Encore. It underwent a number of revisions Encore -> PS -> Encore. The only problem I encountered whas when changing the type layers, Encore didn't want to update until I switched a layer off and on again.
Working in Encore I've seen lots of goofy things happen, I guess its a tradition.

  • Encore Menu sizes for PAL widescreen SD

    Premier Pro CS 5.5 (v5.5.2)
    Encore CS5 (v5.1.0.342)
    Photoshop CS (v8.0)
    Hi all
Bit of a NOOB question I'm afraid, but it sure is befuddling me! (NOOB to Encore that is, but an old hand at DVD authoring)
According to the Encore documentation, PAL widescreen SD menus should be created 720x576 pixels, 1.42 pixel aspect ratio... this seems perfectly logical and is what I've done many times in the past when creating menus for my main DVD authoring app (DVDLab Pro).
However, when editing PAL widescreen SD menus from within Encore in Photoshop, the pixel aspect ratio is set to 1.458. Indeed, within Premiere Pro all SD widescreen options are shown using a pixel aspect ratio of 1.458.
Is the documentation incorrect, or have I been missing something fundamental all these years?
Would appreciate anybodys thoughts & observations on this...
    Tim

You have discovered a "bug" in the Encore documentation. The actual menus in the library are correct, but what help says about them is wrong.

  • How to correctly identify and measure menu sizes

I've got a project that upon build says it's utilizing less than 4.7G.  For that reason I began a build and after hours of processing it said there wasn't enough space even though Encore showed only 4.011G was used and over 600M was still available before the build.  Seems like it shouldn't build if it's not going to work out.
Everything has been transcoded or is already converted to MPEG-2.  However I've read just about every thread I can find on the subject of dealing with the 1G menu size limit and now a new anomaly, the Times and/or chapters adjusted warning, has appeared.  I'm trying to understand how anyone can logically tie these back to something specific to troubleshoot and correct them.  Just about every other error links back to the problem so you can adjust it, but these are vacuous.
My first question then is about menus and how a menu actually measured.  What determines total file size, the menu itself or the content that is linked from the menu?  Why not have a list of total menu sizes so you can see not only the individual file sizes, but the aggregates that impact the menu size limitation?
All my menus are static and link to video clips.  My largest clip is about 511M of video and 265M of audio.  That one is already converted to MPEG-2.  I have less than 4.7G of content to burn to the DVD and appear to have plenty of headroom according to the build menu disk info.
My next question is about a file that Encore says is in use, but it isn't.  It could be adding to my overall menu size, yet nothing is linked to it and no chapters appear to be in use with it.  It should be an orphan, but not according to Encore.  Again, shouldn't there be a logical way to identify that link?  Managing a dependency that can't be found is a nightmare.  None of the menus or timelines offer any insight about the mystery clip that can't be deleted.  I read a thread that said they had a similar problem, but building forced the anomaly out.  Didn't work for me.
Then lastly, the time and/or chapter adjusted problem has no suggested corrective action.  It wasn't there before the build so why is it there now?  Is it due to transcoding?  I don't see any obvious changes to the timeline so where is the problem and how does is someone expected to troubleshoot it?
Shouldn't there be a glossary of error codes somewhere with at least some basic explanation?
Seems like a very clunky application, but when integrated with the rest of the Adobe Suite very powerful...if I can ever get a build to complete.
    Any suggestions?
Message was edited by: Kevin Nay
So as not to waste anyone's time I'm assuming the transcoding adjusted the timeline/chapters and I was able to solve one problem by adding back in an ending chapter point.  Remaining issue is the menu size however.

Encore is being phased out?  I would be surprised if Adobe did not offer some kind of DVD authoring solution in it's place.  I have not heard about this yet myself.
I have a menu size issue because, despite my reported file size being under 4.7G, Encore continues to report a menu size problem.  Of course it doesn't say which menu or by how much it is exceeded.  When I build it to DVD it waits several hours before reporting that there is a space issue.  See below.
There is a file called woodstock-1.mp4.  I can find no use of this clip at this point and it's not part of a timeline, yet Encore won't let it be deleted.  Encore reports it's still in use.  Surely there should be some way to track down any dependencies quickly.

  • Subpicture misalignment in Encore CS5 is driving me nuts

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me with the following? I am creating a series of menus in photoshop for a PAL 4:3 encore project. I traditonally work in a square pixel size of 788 x 576, in my photoshop menu I create the button highlights from scratch, using encore layer name conventions.
I also create moving menus in After Effects CS5, I set my comp size to PAL standard square pixel 788 x 576, and I render them out as 720 x 576. When I bring all my components into Encore CS5, the buttons are mis-aligned and clipping. An example: I have a list of menu options and as you work down the menu the highlight appears more and more clipped along the horizontal, so what starts at the top of the list as a diamond highlight shape, begins to look more like 'Superman's badge', as the top corner is being erroded away. I also have a chapter select menu where the highlights are completely mis-aligned from the thumbnail boxes.
When I work in the same way for PAL widescreen, starting with a square pixel PSD of 1050 x 576, I don't have this problem?
I have solved it in a fashion by reverting to the old pixel size of '768 x 576' although this still isn't perfect as it is now introducing clipping along the vertical instead of the horizontal.
I am using Windows 7 and Encore, Photoshop and After Effects CS5.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am at my wits end!
    Many thanks,
    Rogueasha

    Thanks Stan,
I thought as much...It just means starting again from scratch for this particular project.  Is there any way of converting the menus already designed into this new PAR of 1.09?
    Many thanks,
    Rogueasha

  • Encore CS5 Blu-ray Track Problems

I've burned my Encore CS5 project to Blu-ray several times now. It chiefly consists of a Main Menu, a Scenes Menu, and a single timeline containing around 41 tracks (only one soundtrack). When I preview the Blu-ray version within Encore, it works perfectly. Not so with the burned version.
When I play the finished Blu-ray disc in each of my two Blu-ray players (completely different brands) and move from track to track, I can't jump from track 28 to 29. In fact, when Chapter 28 finishes playing, it bumps me back to the Main Menu. The only way I can continue playing the disc is to manually go to the Scenes Menu and start playing from chapter 29 (which, of course, won't let me jump back to chapter 28). It's as if Encore has split my single timeline into two different timelines.
Furthermore, when I start playing from a chapter within the Scenes Menu, then press the Menu button on my remote, it takes me back to the Main Menu even though End Action is set to return to the last menu.
I know I haven't done anything wrong because if I burn this exact same project onto a standard DVD, it works exactly the way it's supposed to!
Is this some sort of Encore bug? Or is it a limitation of the Blu-ray standard (which I thought maxed out at 90-something tracks, not 28).
Can anyone offer some insight here? If it's an Encore problem, any suggestions on how to get around it without having to wait for an Encore patch (I'm fully up-to-date on my versions)?
    Thanks!!

As a follow up, I tried knocking down the number of chapters by 1/3 so there would be a total of 28 chapters instead of 41. As it turns out, the disc is still exiting the timeline and returning to the main menu at exactly the same point (which happens to be one second into a particular chapter of the timeline, just shy of 90 minutes into the timeline). It's as if Encore has split my single timeline into two timelines.
If it's of any help understanding what's happening, the entire timeline is 02;05;23;21 long. When Encore creates the Blu-ray disc, playback of the timeline ends at approximately 01;26;43;10. I then have to go to my Scenes menu and pick up where I left off as it's the only way to see the last ~39 minutes of the sequence.
As I mentioned, if I burn this as a standard definition (4.7GB) disc, it plays normally with no breaks. It's only if I burn it to a 25GB single-layer Blu-ray disc that I see the problem (using multiple Blu-ray players).
Thanks in advance for any light that can be shed on this problem.

  • Simple button highlights in PSD menu not working properly in Encore

I'm having some trouble making even basic menus this week - I'm working on a couple of projects that need simple menus on their DVDs, but I can't get them to work.
For one project, it's a simple menu with a photo as the background and two buttons - 'Play' and 'Behind the Scenes'. Each button group consists of a text layer with the button title and a layer called '(=1) Highlight'. The highlight layer is a simple straight line underneath the text. Nothing is overlapping, however the line is not appearing on one of the buttons. The group is detected as a button in Encore, and works when it is linked to the timeline, but the line does not appear
With the other project I've been working on this week, there's a few menu pages - a main menu, and some chapter select sub menus. These menus look a bit fancier, but the buttons are still fairly simple - they basically consist of a line of text, but this time the highlight is a rectangular outline. I'm having what looks like the same problem with these menus - the highlights aren't displaying correctly. Most of the outlines are missing their bottom lines - so only a three-sided box is appearing.
I've made plenty of menus before using the same method, and more complicated ones than this too, without running into any issues. I haven't been able to figure out what the problem is, despite starting over and making the menus from scratch several times, and making them one step at a time, importing them into Encore at every step to test. At some point, one or more of the highlights will always stop working. Despite this systematic approach, I'm still baffled. I'm using Photoshop CS5.1 and Encore CS5.1. After running into problems on one computer I tried making menus from scratch on another computer with the same version software but had the same problem.
Has anyone got any suggestions of things I should try that might solve this problem? I can send an example of a menu that's not working for me if anyone would like to take a look.

Thank you, everyone, for your continued support.
I have tried everything suggested here, plus lots more, since I last posted. There are glitches no matter what I do. I don't think it's anything to do with what I'm doing in Photoshop as I've tried using some menus from the Encore library and I'm having the same problem with those. I've also tried using buttons from the Encore library on my menus with the same result.
But that got me to thinking - perhaps it's just a glitch with Encore's previews. So I tried actually building a DVD image, even with the menus that appeared to be broken, and they turned out to be fine. So it must just be a glitch in the Encore preview.
I've also discovered another bug while doing this - if you create a menu in Encore, it's always NTSC, even if the project is PAL. It makes a 4:3, 720x480 menu with a PAR of D1/DV NTSC 0.91. Surely, if you've set up a PAL project, and you create a new menu, it should create one that's actually PAL?

  • Kernel panic rendering AVCHD footage in Encore CS5 or CS6

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro running CS6 and 10.8.2. My usual workflow is burning two hour multi-cam live performances to DVD. Usually this is two cameras of DV, one camera of AVCHD, all in a DV timeline.
Lately I've been trying to burn DV timelines of nothing but AVCHD footage, and somewhere through the rendering process I always get a kernel panic. This happens with different projects, footage from different cameras (I'm using a Panasonic AG-AC130 or HMC40), whether I'm using Encore CS5 or CS6. The projects never finish. It seems to get 50-75% through rendering video before crashing. Rendering these projects on my MacBook Pro work just fine (though much slower). Timelines where it's not 100% AVCHD are still working fine.
I had began having kernel panics unrelated to Encore, but traced this back to a heat issue. It's an old machine after all. After installing smcFanControl, this problem has gone away. I don't normally burn timelines of nothing but AVCHD, but I'm certain there was a time in the past I was able to burn these without issue. I monitor my system temperature during rendering and I'm somewhat confident that's not what's crashing the system.
The top part of my latest crash report is listed below. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

After a not-too-intense Bing search, the particular panic you're getting seems to be an indication of:
    Your Mac Pro is dying.
Bad drivers in combo with an unforgiving OS.
I don't have any easy advice for number 1.  If it is still a heat issue, you may need to redo the thermal paste on the CPU and blow the dust out of the heat sink.  If it's a deeper problem than that, some serious repair work up to and including replacement may be required.  Either way, it will be a painful fix.  For number 2, try updating your graphics card drivers (which card do you have?) and/or going back to 10.6.x or Lion 10.7.x and see if things improve.

EDIT: Although Encore and Premiere Pro have their share of bugs, a lot of times they expose weaknesses in a system because of how much they tax all of the hardware and software.

  • Adobe Encore CS5.1 producing DVDs with flickering video

Hey all, new to the forums but been using Adobe software for a couple of years now.
I've got Encore CS5.1 as part of the Adobe Master Collection CS5.5, and recently I've been using it to burn DVD videos.
I made a video in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 a few weeks ago and rendered it as an mp4 file in h.264 HDTV 24fps (video recorded with my Nikon D3200 D-SLR). I then imported the mp4 file into Encore as an asset (I didn't use Dynamic Link to insert the prproj file into Encore) and burned it onto a 4.7GB DVD (no menus or anything, just a simple DVD) and it looked absolutely fine on both my PC and on the TV and the recipient of the DVD was very happy with the result. The video was 28 minutes long and 6.2GB in size.
Recently I have been making more videos in Premiere Pro CS5.5 and attempting to burn them onto DVDs using Encore CS5.1, but I've not been having so much luck.
Whenever I create a DVD with Encore, the video playback is always a bit 'flickery' no matter how I import the video into Encore (have tried using both Dynamic Link and importing the mp4 file as an asset - both result in the same problem). The video playback results in flickering lines and it's really distracting. Again, I am rendering in mp4 h.264 HDTV 24fps and burning onto 4.7GB DVDs. If I watch the video in Encore on the Monitor, it also looks a bit flickery with lines showing. The video I am trying to burn onto a DVD is 25 minutes long and 4GB (but Encore transcodes it so it's just over 1GB in size I think).
I am also trying to burn another video onto a DVD which again is rendered in h.264 but is 48 minutes and 11GB in size (Encore transcodes it so it's about 2.5GB) and the same thing happens: flickery lines which is really distracting.
I did briefly have a trial version of CS6 installed and I rendered the video again in Premiere Pro CS6 and tried burning to a DVD using Encore CS6, but still got the same results. I don't have CS6 now, I installed it purely to see if CS5.5 was the problem.
I don't understand why the first video I burned to DVD using Encore was perfect and now it seems to be giving me flickery video once it's burned to a DVD whenever I use it.
I have updated it to version 5.1.0.342 which at the time of writing is the latesrt version of CS5.1.
If anybody out there could help me that would be great, thanks!

Still flickering on Encore even when rendered in MPEG-2 DVD in Pemiere Pro CS5.5. Looks perfect in Premiere Pro.
    Any other ideas?
EDIT: Was looking for Google for people with similar problems to me and I came across this http://forums.adobe.com/message/3959757?tstart=0
I am currently re-rendering the video in PAL DV Widescreen MPEG-2 DVD and using maximum render quality.

  • Encore CS5 crashes on importing  _sessionFiles....ac3 for blu-ray.

    Ok, for starters, I've been using cs3-4-5 for a while to create DVDs, no problem whatsoever. Even with ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link). I've been able to burn 1 perfect blu-ray project, it was on a fresh install of CS5. Since then Encore CS5 keeps freezing when re-importing the files right after the transcoding. It always freezes at the same place on many different projects;
    The filename is: _sessionFiles_Asf_session_1_audio.ac3
I've tried many things: run as admin, holding ctrl/shift/alt on startup, cleaning cache. I even used the compressed files from the transcoded folders. My audio and video are of the same length. I just re-installed the suite today just to try it again on a clean install.
I've also tried the audio as pcm:

Any feedback would be really appreciated!

I was able to burn a blu-ray disc with my latest project but not without any hassles!!! I had to remove all audio from the menus except the main one. The software allows me for 1 menu with audio along with my main timeline. If I add audio to another menu, it crashes.
My project is a 4cam live show with 1 audio track.
The source format is from my HDV Camera. So it's a .m2t file.
The audio track is from the soundboard, a .wav file.

I've done another project and have encountered the same problems. So what I do now is main menu with audio, rest of the menus no audio.
I like Encore coz I can do popmenu with it, other softwares don't offer it. With other softwares I can do a perfect blu-ray with audio on all menus but no popmenu. That's why I'm working so hard to try to resolve the errors with Encore, so I can have projects with popmenu!!! If other softwares would allow for popmenu I would drop Encore.

  • Encore CS5 Blu-Ray Preview Playback Issues / Authoring Issues

    Hello,
    I'm using Adobe Encore CS5 on a Mac Pro (Nehalem) 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon w/ 8 GB Ram on Mac OS X 10.5.8.
I've recently upgraded to CS5 after having no luck using CS3 to make Blu-Ray discs.  So far my experience has been a little disappointing -- it feels like they still haven't got it right.  Below is a list of my issues thus far -- perhaps some of you have run into similar things:
    - When importing MATROX encoded H.264 Blu-Ray files Encore CS5 hangs up.  I tried this with a 54 minute encoded file.  Instead I re-transcoded using the CS5 Media Encoder to the Main Concept H.264.  This worked fine, although the import still hung up for several minutes before anything made it's way into the project.
    - When I try opening my already existing project with a 54 minute video inside it hangs up and takes as long as 3-5 minutes to finally open successfully.  This seems to happen consistently.
    - After rendering motion menus and rendering them in the project the playback preview stutters.  It's very steppy throughout as the video plays in the background.  I even tried authoring a disc and playing it in a Blu-Ray player -- it did the same thing once authored.  I've tried re-encoding the video in Media Encoder and have found the problem persists.  Has anyone else experienced this with motion menus?  By the way, I'm transcoding @ 25mbps (max 30mbps) in the Media Encoder.
    - While trying to re-author my Blu-Ray the playback preview does not play audio on the main video when I click to play it.  I've tried re-importing the asset and previewing but this does not work.  I'm going to re-author the disc anyway to see if it plays right on the disc but can't understand why the preview doesn't work even if the Blu-Ray itself is fine (which it is).  I should add that the first time I authored this disc the audio was fine on the main video.  Preview was also fine.  So I'm not sure what's happening now - I haven't changed anything in the project.
    - Portions of my video on the authored video play back with slight stutter even though the source video (ProRes HQ QuickTime) does not.  Is this a problem with the Main Concept H.264 encode?  Should I try a 2-pass VBR transcode as another try (instead of 1-pass)?  My target bit rate is 25 mbps (with a max of 30 mbps).  That shouldn't be too high for a player to handle without stutter.  The stutter also happens in the same place every time so it makes me think it's the encode of the file itself that's the problem.
All in all these are mainly quirks about Encore that have begun to add up and frustrate me as a user.  It would be nice if these things just worked as they should.  But if anyone has ideas or can think of something I might be missing in all of this that would be great to hear.
    Thanks for reading.
    All the best,
    JD

  • Encore CS5.1 and Video Menus

    Hello all!
Hoping somebody knowledgeable can give me a hand here!
So, the story is I am creating a video menu for a Blu-Ray project using Photoshop CS5.1 and Premiere Pro CS5.5.
I have created the buttons in Photoshop, and I have then 'disabled' the background layer so I just have the buttons. I have saved this as a PSD and inserted in Encore as a menu.
I made a video in Premiere Pro CS5.5 which I'd like to use as my menu background. It is 2 minutes 43 seconds long and was rendered in MP4 h.264 HDTV 1080p 24fps straight from Premiere Pro, since this is for a Blu-Ray disc. The video is 302MB in size. The video has audio so I have not specified a specific audio file for my video menu.
Now the problem is when I put all of this into Encore and click on the Preview in Encore, all I am seeing is the text/buttons from my PSD file, and not any video. I have pressed the little 'Render' button but it's not working. In a previous project (which I have now sadly deleted), I used a shorter and smaller (in file size) video and also a different PSD file and I got it to work - but I don't understand why it isn't working now.
I saw in some other threads people were saying that they have had problems with the menu being 'too big' when they checked it. I don't have this problem when I check it.
I've tried another video file and the same thing is happening - can only see the buttons/text, but no video. Maybe my PSD file is the problem?
Anybody got any idea as to why this isn't working? I'll post some screenshots below so you can see:
Menu buttons in Photoshop - all look OK?
What I see in the Preview window - I should see the video playing and the buttons, right? Not just the buttons? As you can see, I've linked it to the video which I want.
Here are my menu layers as displayed in Encore - does it look correct?
This is the 'Check Build' window - no errors found (deseleted button links because I have no video imported at the moment, only working on the menu at the moment).
Finally, my build settings. I'll be putting this on a 25GB Blu-Ray disc. I presume that 500MB or so is used for the menu?
Thank you to anybody who can help me out!

Hi there, thanks for your input!
I've not had a look at the highlights and stuff like that yet, I've just been trying to get this video to work as a menu background. I will get round to looking at highlights shortly.
I will turn the visibility on and get back to you tomorrow on that - hopefully it will work!
You can already see the Motion Tab in my second screenshot on the far left. I'll post a new screenshot tomorrow if it helps though.
    Thanks!
