Menubar halfway hidden

Hello,
I've seen a few similar questions around but I haven't seen a definite answer. Maybe because defining the exact problem is hard. If you see the following pic you will find the problem:
http://tinyurl.com/yqu9rl
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
You can see that all the menubar except a few items on the right are halfway hidden. This problem is very odd, I haven't been able to tell when it happens and sometimes it fixes itself after a while but I haven't been able to notice when. If I log off I get fixed of course, but my main issue is avoiding that when I am in the middle of some work. When this happens it happens for all menubars except for Finder's which looks ok.
If anyone has an idea of what could be the problem or the solution, I would appreciate dropping a line.
Thanks!

HI Jose,
I've seen this before on a post here. This is what was suggested to do:
Reset Launch Services under Tiger
1. Quit all running applications.
2. Trash the following two files in the Macintosh HD > Library > Caches folder:
• com.apple.LaunchServices-0140.csstore
• com.apple.LaunchServices-014nnn.csstore
Type your Admin password if prompted to authenticate the deletion of these files.
3. Restart your Mac.
4. Log in to the affected account.
5. Empty the Trash.
6. Verify that the problem is solved. If not:
1. Trash the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file in the Home > Library > Preferences folder of the affected account.
2. Repeat steps 1-5.
See if that helps, if not post back.

  • Why are my Add-on Bar items halfway hidden, and why won't they display properly?

    [http://download343.mediafire.com/29kbvy9b609g/uzw78f3vqf688mb/Add-on+Bar+Glitch.PNG Glitched Add-on Bar photo]
    After using the new Firefox 4 for just a few days, I've noticed that my Add-on Bar items (mail notifier and weather bar) are jutted down below the actual visible display area they should be, so I can see half of the icons. This is not a priority issue, but it is still an issue, and it bothers me. I've already tried uninstalling then reinstalling Firefox 4, I've already tried removing then reinstalling the add-ons themselves, and I've also tried just hiding then showing the Add-on Bar but still nothing is changed. This problem only occurs when I use themes for Firefox 4 other than the default theme. The attached photo is a screenshot of my Add-on Bar so you hopefully won't think I'm crazy.

    I've figured this out. Apparently, there is a graphical bug in FF4 when the "Show: Icons and Text" option under customizing the toolbar is enabled, and the Downloads icon is in the Add-on Bar, the Downloads icon remains centered, but the other items in the Add-on Bar are pushed under the display area of the Add-on Bar. If the setting is reverted back to just icons or just text shown, or if the Downloads icon is removed from the Add-on Bar, this is fixed. A simple line of code could fix this coincidental error, but as I said before, it's not a priority issue. As always, I can just click Ctrl+J to show my current downloads. I just tried to have this icon in the newly named Add-on Bar to replicate my old-fashioned Firefox 3.6 interface, but I guess that's unreasonable for Mozilla...

  • Apps to show the hidden icons in menubar

    Is there any app that can show the menubar icons hidden by really large menus?
    Sometimes, just to open skitch, I have to switch to another application which has a smaller menu and click skitch icon. Is there a menu that can "reveal" hidden icons like as in Windows XP?

    are you talking about the menu on the left or the menu on the right of the menu bar? the menu on the left is completely controlled by the active application. the menu bar on the right is 'officially' reserved for apple menu extras only. and the system won't let you add more than a certain number of them. any 3rd party menu items you see there are not true menu extras (apple does not allow those) but rather menu bar hacks maintained by hidden applications loaded at the login. as far as i know there is no way to "expand" the menu bar if there are too many of those icons present. you might consider reducing the number of menu bar items you have on the right.

  • CSS problem with borders

    Hello,
    This page
    http://www.curriculum2000.co.uk/new.htm
    is displaying in IE6,
    just how I want it to, with a yellow border, which spans the
    whole width
    of the window and sits directly underneath the buttons.
    However in FF and Safari it is sitting above the buttons.
    What do I need to do to move it down? Many thanks.

    Thank you Michael!
    There's something about float which hasn't quite clicked with
    me yet!

  • Geometry keeps bouncing -- wont position correctly

    This is for an older Apple Studio Display 17" CRT. I had a power outage last night, woke up to find the monitor's picture off to one side. When I tried using the geometry settings in Monitors System Prefs, the buttons to position left and right only go so far (not far enough) then just bounce back. If you click them enough, they bounce way forward sending the image halfway hidden on the other side, and then wont let you position them back the other way before bouncing again.
    Essentially, I can't get my screen anywhere near center. Anyone hear of this one?

    Most probably the obj file is not in the right directory (it must be in the working directory as I have seen from the code).

  • How do I get rid of malware/adware signed "ads by info" ?

    I've tried just about every anti-spyware and nothing is getting rid of ads and new tabs opening signed "ads by info". I believe that it goes by the name of superfish sometimes. I successfully removed it from Chrome but Firefox is still screwed.
    Please don't tell me to look through my extensions. It's not there and I'm not a moron.

    If you want to access the Help menu from the menubar, you can by pressing '''Alt''' if the menubar is hidden, or by showing the menubar permanently through your customization screen:
    * Either enter '''about:customizing''' in your address bar, or go to
    * Menu [[Image: New Fx Menu]] > Customize
    At the bottom left of this page should have a "Show/Hide Toolbars" - you can enable the menu bar from there.
    Alternatively, if you right click on an empty space on your toolbar, an option to show the Menu bar (and Bookmarks toolbar) should appear as well.

  • Internet Explorer 9 vs SmartPrint 2.5/2.6 not functionning properly

    Hi everyone,
      I'm using VISTA Ultimate SP2 along with Internet Explorer (IE) 9.0.8112.16421.  All Microsoft updates are actually done.
      With either version of SmartPrint (2.5 or 2.6) I have this same display problem when clicking on the "SmartPrint" button in IE toolbar.  At that moment, after a moment waiting, I see this little "Green zone" with the following sentence "Sélectionner la zone à ajouter".  I just can't see the SmartPrint "floating toolbar" (the one with 5 buttons) that should normally appear at that moment.
      The only way I can actually manage to see that SmartPrint toolbar is to next strike "ALT" on my keyboard (which makes IE menubar, normally hidden, appear) which seems to make IE do a screen refresh and only then the SmartPrint toolbar appears.  The problem really seems to be a "refresh" problem.
      In FireFox 9.1, I have no problem at all.  But... My only request would be that the update functionnality was available as in IE.  There is actually no way we can search for any SmartPrint update from within Firefox.
    Really hope to see improvements,
    Stéphane

    I would guess you downloaded the latest version of SmartPrint from here?

  • CC 2014 Option Bar Problem

    The option bar is getting cut off and is halfway hidden under the "File, Edit" menu at the top.
    It's also offset slightly to the left and I can't move it either.
    Any clues as to how to get it back to the normal position?
    Thanks

    That reads like you have undocked the option bar. On the right side of it you should see a pull-down menu for workspaces. Try resetting the one the is currently in use using the pulldown menu option

  • Icons on menubar and sidebar are hidden. Available for click, but hidden.

    Hi I've got OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 on this computer. The problem is simple, the icons on the menubar and sidebar are there but I can't see the icon-image. This was a frequent and easy to solve error in others mac, but in this one I've tried with many solutions posted before without success.

    If you are talking about Finder, Finder View/Show Toolbar. You can set the other view options to get what you want.

  • The case of the mysterious hidden content - second hand iMac

    Dear people with more knowledge than me... (i.e. dear everyone...)
    I have recently purchased a second hand intel iMac (late 2006 model) to replace my trusty (but noisy) Powermac G4 Mirror Door Drive. It was purchased 'wiped' with a fresh install of Lion.
    I used Carbon Copy Cloner to create a backup of my old hard drive (or at least the 60GB partition of it that I was using - I had Tiger installed on it) and then used the Migration Assistant to re-create an image of Zion in the wide expanses of the new promised land (250GB capacity).
    All seemed to go well (but time consuming - it took several days to port everything to/from my USB external hard-drive). A few days later, when I checked About this mac I was shocked to discover that I only had 5GB of storage remaining.
    I did a little poking about and realised I had left a couple of user profiles hanging around during my pre-Migration Assistant faffing. These duplicated much of what I had later migrated over more comprehensively, so I deleted these additional user profiles and this freed up a further 58GB or so.
    My system information now tells me that I have
    249.2 GB Capacity
    63.69 GB Available
    185.5 GB Used
    The used component consists of:
    Audio 137.47 GB
    Movies 7.03 GB
    Photos 9.74 GB
    Apps 3.34 GB
    Backups 0
    Other 27.94 GB
    However, when I go through all my available files and folders using the Finder, the grand total of space that I have used comes to around 88GB:
    My home folder (the only user profile I didn't delete) 42.98 GB
    Desktop 4.09 GB (I know, I know, clean your room...)
    Applications 2.31 GB
    Documents 2.8 MB (yes MB)
    Movies 0
    Music 38.59 GB
    Photos 385 KB (yes KB)
    Total ± 80GB
    Leaving aside for a moment the fact that the disk partition I Migrated over was only 60GB in total (?!), where on earth are the other 97.5 GB of files, and how can I see/delete them to free up drive space I thought I had...?
    ...I imagine that the audio, movies etc., that are unaccounted for actually belong(ed) to the previous owner of the iMac. What I don't know how to do is see/access/delete them to free up disk space. There are no additional users other than my own account that I can see. That's not to say they are not there.
    What can I do?
    Thank you in anticipation of any help or advice.

    the (hidden) folder _CCC Archives takes up a whopping 107 GB, much of which consists of multiple copies of the same audio files (due to poor file management and copies of copies, I think..). I'm now looking for a utility that will be able to locate and list duplicate files so I can verify that the _CCC Archives folder files are replicated elsewhere.
    I use CCC, but not the "archive" feature (since my main backups are made with Time Machine).
    According to it's Help, that folder contains the backup copies of files that had been changed on the "source" drive.
    But this large folder is on your internal HD, right?  Here's what I think happened:
    When you made the original CCC clone from your old Mac, you selected the option to "archive" the copies of things that had been changed.  For some period of time, it did that.
    Later, when you used Migration Assistant, it copied all those old files from the clone (via the Other files and folders on <HD name> option) back on to your new internal HD.
    So yes, the files there should be prior versions of things on your system.
    There are various options to have CCC manage those files.  You can assign a certain size to it, and it will delete the oldest files when necessary to make room for new ones;  or "prune" files after a specified number of days, etc.
    Click Help in the CCC menubar, then CCC help, then review the Backup and archiving settings section:

  • Is there a way to turn off the menubar/dock in fullscreen applications?

    I've recently been using several applications which are designed to operate in an absolute fullscreen mode, and I'm being frustrated by the appearance of the menubar or dock if I happen to move the cursor near their locations.   For these specific applications, there is no need to access the menubar in full screen mode, and very often there will be things I wish to click on which are near the top of the screen, but it is very hard to do without moving one pixel too close and having the menubar drop down and obscure what I was trying to click on.
    An example of programs where this can be an issue are remote desktop access programs (Splashtop in my specific case).   When I make the application full-screen, it displays the full-screen of the remote computer.  However, as you can imagine, when you try to access the menubars on the remote machine, the menubar for my local machine will drop down and obscure the remote menubar.  For a remote desktop application, if I want to access the local menubar I would drop out of fullscreen mode and then access the local menu bar, but when I am in fullscreen mode, I don't want the local menubar to display.  The same problem exists for the Dock, obviously just whenever I need to access something at the bottom of the screen instead of at the top.
    What I really want to know is this:  How can I set the menubar/dock to be permanently hidden when I am using an application in a full screen mode.   There are certain apps in which I absolutely do not want the menubar to appear and it is extremely frustrating to have it keep 'jumping in front of my mouse' at the edges of the screen.

    Oh, it also lists my bookmarks as well. Private browsing? Are you serious?

  • Dropdown Menu bar being hidden by the Textarea

    My problem is that the menu bar does show up, but the text area is over the dropdown menu. You can see the drop down menu start but then is hidden under the textarea. I hope that a good enough discription.
    The frame is a typical JFrame that contains a BorderLayout. My class TheFrame is an extention of JFrame. In the CenterPanel I have a Text area. In the south panel I have another BorderLayout with a text area as the center and a button for the east panel. The menu is going under the text area in the center panel. This might be a bug with the borderlayout?
    public TheFrame(){
    super("Com");
    getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout());
    JMenuBar menuBar = new JMenuBar();
    setJMenuBar(menuBar);
    menuBar.add(getMyMenuBar());
    getContentPane().add(getCenterPanel(), BorderLayout.CENTER);
    getContentPane().add(getSouthPanel(), BorderLayout.SOUTH);
    pack();
    private JMenu getMyMenuBar(){
    JMenu menu = new JMenu("File");
    menu.add(createConnectItem());
    menu.add(new JMenuItem("test"));
    return menu;
    private JMenuItem createConnectItem(){
    JMenuItem connect = new JMenuItem("New");
    ActionListener listener = new ConnectMenuItemActionListener(com);
    connect.addActionListener(listener);
    return connect;
    }

    I don't see the textarea in the code you posted.
    But I know that the described problem comes up when
    you use "TextArea" unstead of "JTextArea".
    "TextArea" is an awt component and "JTextArea" is
    the corresponding swing component. You should not
    mix awt and swing components in the same GUI.
    However, "TextArea" has the scrolling facility already included.
    With "JTextArea" you must use JScrollPane if you need
    scrolling.
            JScrollPane scrollpane = new JScrollPane();
            JTextArea textarea = new JTextArea();
            scrollpane.setViewportView(textarea);

    Hi,
    Firstly, I cannot see what you have done because the online code has not changed.
    Secondly, have a look here to see what is wrong with your HTML-code.
    Thirdly, have a look at removing your tables and using DIV's instead as per following example
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

        margin: 0; /* it's good practice to zero the margin and padding of the body element to account for differing browser defaults */
        padding: 0;
        text-align: center; /* this centers the container in IE 5* browsers. The text is then set to the left aligned default in the #container selector */

        background-color: #FFF;
    #container {
        width: 839px;  /* using 20px less than a full 800px width allows for browser chrome and avoids a horizontal scroll bar */
        background: #FFFFFF;
        margin: 0 auto; /* the auto margins (in conjunction with a width) center the page */
        text-align: left; /* this overrides the text-align: center on the body element. */
    #header {
        background: #DDDDDD;
        padding: 0;  /* this padding matches the left alignment of the elements in the divs that appear beneath it. If an image is used in the #header instead of text, you may want to remove the padding. */
    #menu {
        margin: 0; /* zeroing the margin of the last element in the #header div will avoid margin collapse - an unexplainable space between divs. If the div has a border around it, this is not necessary as that also avoids the margin collapse */

        font-weight: bold;
    #mainContent {
