Menus images need to be what size for widescreen DVD?

I am making a standard def DVD using HDV content and I would like to know what pixel size images I need for the widescreen menu?
And my next question is if you know of any problems burning my own dual layer disc to have sent to a replicator rather than using DLT tape? Any quality or compatibility issues with this?

Hi:

No matter your video is HDV you have to author a SD DVD, right? The next info is taken from the DVDSP User Manual:
Select the right size depending your project standard: PAL or NTSC.
And my next question is if you know of any problems burning my own dual layer disc to have sent to a replicator rather than using DLT tape? Any quality or compatibility issues with this?
I think the best is asking your replicator about that.
Hope that helps !

  • What size for a DVD on Plasma

I am making a little animation in Motion which I am going to burn to DVD... What size would be the best? It's a 42" Plasma Screen... So is it 1024 x 576? or 720 x 576? I'm on PAL also...

If you are making an animation to be played from a DVD player, then the only format you will render to will be 720x576 anamorphic (squashed horizontally). Create your original project in 1024x576 - 16x9 and render to 720x576 anamorphic. The screen will transform the image back to Widescreen 16x9.
If you could find an HD player or play from a powerful enough laptop you could have a much nicer image quality as you could play a native HD screen height. (1280x720, or 1980x1080)

  • Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within

Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within a mat of with overall size of 20" x 24"? Or will the 1st export be "locked" at 6.5" X 9" (proportionately)?

So, for the first one Export it cropped to 6.5 x 9 - and in the Export Dialog box there is a capability to rename the file for exported output - which would allow you to add something like the crop or intention to the base name of the file.  e.g. for _IMG0846.nef - setup the output filename to _IMG0846-65x9 for 11x14.jpg and output it at, say 300 or 360 dpi.  So, it has a unique name and purpose in your output folder.
For best results, now, re-crop the picture in LR - just open the crop [R] dialog again, reframe the image to the new ratio, 12x16 and Export again - with an adjustment to the filename. e.g. _IMG0846-12x16 for 20x24.jpg
So, now you have two clearly identified image files in your output area and you can provide those to whomever is printing for you, etc.  Discard them when you're done since you always have the original to return to to re-frame again as necessary.
This way you get output sharpening and resolution (in pixels) optimized for your output print size.  Maybe not super important for smallish prints-but more important for larger ones.   Output at 100 quality.

  • Recovery Media for Tecra R840 - What size USB or DVD?

What size USB (or DVD media) is needed to create the basic recovery media?  I saw the post for the user who also had MS Office 2010, but what size USB (or DVDs) would be needed to create the basic recovery media (ie, without the Office suite) - a search of the manual failed to provide the answer?
    Thanks - FB

I believe the Recovery Media Creator should specify if you continue to go through it.

  • What size for my ebook?

I am creating an ebook and am wondering what size to make the pages. Someone suggested 6" by 8" in case people want to print it which makes sense, but I don't know if there are other factors, and what is standard.
    Any suggestions?

Thank you so much for your reply! I just want to double check - and get your opinion, since I'm forever paranoid.  This quote is from Apple Support regards the memory for the build of my iMac:
    4GB (two 2GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory
Configurable to 16GB, only at the Apple Online Store.
    But I don't have to worry about being confined to 4GB sticks - I can go ahead and install what I've bought? - Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3 1333 MT/s (PC3-10600) CL9 SODIMM 204-Pin 1.35V/1.5V Notebook Memory Modules CT2CP102464BF1339

  • What size for postcard

Hi there, I'm a newby here. I was wondering what size to choose if I want to make a (rectangular standard) postcard. Also, how to make a border. Thank you! Samantha

The Post Office has a range for the postcard size:
at least 3 1⁄2 inches high × 5 inches long and no more than 4 1⁄4 inches high × 6 inches long.
Print borders get added in the Print module.

  • Encoding file size for standard DVD too large - please advise

Hi - I shot an 6-hour training session that went well.  I shot it at 1280 x 720.  For the web version it will be no problem, as I'll just export to F4V.
But i'm having a difficult time figuring out the export settings for the DVD.  I know that the disk is limited to 4.6 GB.  I broke up the sequences in PPro CS4 to about 30 minutes or so (some are smaller or larger than others).
I first exported to QT but found that a 30-minute export way too large (8 GB) and Encore brought it down to 2 GB but that that will still only allow me to put 60-minutes on one DVD vs. the almost 2 hours I want to get on 1 disk.
    AVI is even worst.
I know that widescreen is a larger size so I'm willing to make it standard NTSC but I just cannot figure out which export setting in PPro CS4 to use to make this work.
Can someone advise me on this?
    Thank you.

    >exported a 36-minute video in QT. It's 8 GB in size. I imported it into Encore, which encoded it down to 2.5 GB
I don't use QT at all (Quicktime is not even installed on my computer) instead using DV AVI to go from AVCHD to Encore to create a DVD http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0
But, as you found, Encore encodes your "raw" input file into a "finished" DVD file which is much smaller due to how MPEG/VOB is structured
I once put 2.5 hours on a single side DVD... but that was a slideshow w/music to be a background at a party, so there was NO motion at all for the encoding process to have to adjust for to produce a good image
A fast moving video (soccer game) is going to require a lot more DVD space to produce an image that is not blurred due to the speed of movement
For a training session with (I presume) low speed movement, simply export your project in 2 hour sections and have Encore do automatic encoding to create the best fit on the disc
Note that automatic encoding is only (as far as I know) for video that you have not already compressed by using the Mpeg-Dvd output setting
Experiment to find out what works the best for you

  • Need help with adjusting size for photos in my website

Wow it's super to know about adobe forum which i never thought existed, i have been to the adobe site several times befor but never noticed there is a forum
Ok i have few issues would like some help if possible.
I have a website for public holidays and festivals and i have been really stressed in the ways i am adding the photos which i am buying from fotolia. First in my featured images the screen is very wide and slim...so i am really having hard time with adjusting the photos so they would fit in a way and show the best part of the photo in the screen, once the featured image is clicked on then their is no problem since it opens up in the full size. Is their a speacial tool in adope (i have cs4) which deals with images in this aspect? Secondly, before i was downloading the image with the regular size in which i bought them (around 3000 px) but that significantly slowed my webiste and i had to resize them into around 500 px, but now the image is small. what is the way around that, is there a feature where i can keep the photo big size with high resolution and little px. I see many big nice resolution photos but very small in size. i have just purchased a lot of photos that i would be posting soon and would like to do them right from the start.
I don't know if i explain the situation right in words but you can take a look here, most photos for the posts are on the main page, please take a look and tell me how i should revise or make better for my photos in the featured images.
I have very little experiance in photoshop so i made a very simple logo, but is there a tool that is speacialy designed to help make it easy doing a professional logo?
Any comments, hints or help would be highly appreciated
Hmmm one more thing....how do i add a pic for my profile? i don't see anywhere i can do so

You should use the crop tool to crop your images. You should never squish your images, it really looks unprofessional:
For your problem with saving images, you can optimize your images for web using the "Save for Web…" menu option:
Make sure that you save your images at the dimension that you want them to display on your website (It looks like all your images in the blog are 620px wide, go with that).
As for your logo, you can make them in Photoshop or Illustrator, but I would reccomend making yours in the latter. Here are some tutorials on logo creation: http://ibrandstudio.com/tutorials/46-adobe-illustrator-tutorials-logo-design

  • What size for External HD for Time Machine?

Hello. An Apple Support Tech suggested an external HD, twice the size of the internal for Time Machine backup. I presently have 1TB in the iMac and a 500GB Lacie--a long way from double! Do I need to rush out and get a 2TB one? Hope not due to the $$$!
    Comments would be appreciated. Cheers.

    A few additional points:
You can use Time Machine to back up more than just your internal drive. If you have a FireWire drive that is also primary storage, you can set Time Machine to back up both the internal drive and external FireWire drive. So be sure to include data on any other drive that you may want to also back up, when determining the required size of the Time Machine drive
You don't need to get a fast FireWire drive for use with Time Machine. A less expensive USB 2.0 drive works just fine. Capacity is more important than speed.
You don't have to use the entire external drive for the Time Machine backup. If you get one that is larger than currently needed, you can partition it and use one partition for Time Machine. You don't even have to partition it. The volume used by Time Machine can also be used to store other data.
You can exclude specific files and folders from being backed up. For example, if you use VMware Fusion or Parallels Desktop, you may want to exclude the virtual hard disk image files used by the virtual machines. Those files are huge and every time you run the virtual machine, those disk image files change, and therefore, Time Machine will save another copy. That will chew through your available Time Machine backup space really fast. Also, you may feel like there is no need to backup files in your Downloads folder (because you can always download those files again), so you can exclude it. So be sure to consider things you don't need to backup, when figuring out how large your Time Machine backup drive should be.

  • PhotoShop Elements 10...I need help with font size for watermark in Processing Multiple Files.....

I have PhotoShop Elements 10, and I am trying to watermark some of my photos, I have successfully added them one at a time with a font large enough to be seen. Now I am trying to add it using the "process multiple files" , I can do that but the font even at 72 the largest setting is so small on the photo you can barely read it! Can anyone help me the size larger on my photos?

Thank you, Michael. I just watched the Russell Brown video again for CS6 and looked real closely at his settings in ACR and he was using 240ppi. I changed my file in image size to 240 ppi and then ran the script and the layer didn't change size this time when I ran the script.
It is kind of annoying to have to change the image size everytime I want to run this script and then change it back again as most of my files are 300 ppi. I used to run his script for edit in ARC in CS5 and recall that if I just remembered to change the settings in ARC to 300 ppi while the script was playing and before pressing 'open' that the image wouldn't change size during the raw processing, but this doesn't seem to be working in CS6. Do you know of a way to use this script and not have to change the ppi for the image to 240?
    Thanks again.

  • What size for stills should be imported?

My stills are 2272 x 1704 jpegs (4:3 ratio).  SHould I reduce them or leave them at that size when I import?  I'm making slide shows for DVD.

I'm using Premiere 4.  My original presets were HD1080i 30 My video clip was 720 and my stills were both orginal from the camera and 1440x1080.
The way I burned Blu_ray onto DVD:  Share>Personal Computer>MPEG>HD1080i 30 (there are ten others to select from).    I created a folder on my desktop and then saved the project to it.  Then I burned this folder to my DVD using a third party burn program (Roxio).  The Video and stills were superb on my 52" HDTV.   The sound played also.  Menus did not work.  The DVD only played on my Playstation 3 Slim's  (PS3) Blu-Ray but would not play with my Samsung Blu-Ray or on my computer.  I got a PS3 originally because the reviews gave it the highest marks for BluRay.  PLus I got the added benefit of game playing.  It comes with a 120gb disk so I guess it handles files of all kinds better than a "straight" BluRay player.  I did not try the DVD disk on a regular DVD.  I'll try that and get back to you.  I doubt if it works.
When I selected HD1080i 30, it created 2 files.  M2T of around 239mb ( it was a short couple of minutes project test although I did a longer 10 minute version also).  The other file was a XMPSES of 551kb
I also tried the same procedure using Share of HD720i 30.  Three files were created.  mpg of 148mb (PRE3 says this is MPEG2);  XMPSES of 525kb and a third called XMP of 3kb.  Operation and procedures were the same.  The quality seem the same on the HDTV as the 1080i test althouh based on the size of the comparaive files, 1080i is "better".  Again, this only worked on my PS3 with sound but no menus.
If you can live without menus, and have a PS3, it seems to be cheap way to go.  I added a title page to the beginnering of my show to make up for the menu loss.   But of course it probably won't work on your freinds BluRay unless its PS3.  This seems to be a quick way to go until I get a BR burner.

  • What size for capturing?

    Hi,
I'm going to create video podcast showing people how to use
    software.
What capture size shall I use? Is 1024x768 too big? What do
    people normally use?

Tough question. Software may or may not be compliant with 800
X 600 sizeing. So you may lose buttons or similar features if the
programmer did not comply with an 800 X 600 minimum.
If you use Captivate 4 you have an opton for the new TOC
feature and that makes everything wider than 800 X 600
Recording larger and scaling down will cause some distortion,
but you can play around with your resolutoin from Standard to
Optimized and you may find that 8 bit is too grainy in any
resolution with the Captivate quality settings.
I usually record at 800 X 600 for internet speed.
If you are serving this up in a LMS package, then the LMS
itself will take up some room.
I do some recording at 1024 X 768 and this is a MAX that is a
bit too big in most cases because of the Tray area at the bottom of
Windows. Lots of people have IE6 or IE7 and a list of their
favorite links on the left. That means that your 1024 X 768
presentation loses the left side to the Favorites bar and it seems
that many people don't know to run this stuff at full screen (just
    press F11 in IE).
    So somewhere between 800 X 600 and 1024 X 768 is the way to
    go.
You can size your application to fit inside the red Adobe
rectangle prior to recording. You should try to be consistent in
size as you do your demo presentations.
If possible, try 800 X 600 first and then you can also try
something that is 90% of 1024 X 768 and see if that works better.
Another issue is 4:3 screens and 16:9 screens. As a business
user, I am not a huge fan of 16:9 laptops, but it is fine on a 21"
desktop monitor. You might want to account for 16:9 screens in your
    dimensions.
Lets not forget about bandwidth. If it is playing on a
corporate network, then you are fine. Lots of folks have high-speed
access. I have not had any problems at 1024 X 768 (or shall I say
    90% of that).
    Hope this helps a bit.

  • Really still need EBS (Erase Block Size) for partitioning a SSD?

The Arch wiki mentions that when partitioning an SSD you need to align the partitions to the erase block size (see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … ate_drives ). There are a lot of how-to-partition-an-ssd-under-linux which also mention this value, even an online calculater.
Those value are known for a lot of the serious models, among them also the Samsung 840 Pro and EVO. As I already asked in an older thread, I would like to know the value for the current model Samsung 850 Pro. Unfortunately Samsung Germany's support refuses to provide me with those values.
Therefore I ask myself, is it still necessary to align partititions to a multiple of the EBS, or is this unnecessary if the device supports TRIM?
    Thanks!

Did you read the section immediately after the one you linked? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … ng_tools_2
In past, proper alignment required manual calculation and intervention when partitioning. Many of the common partition tools now handle partition alignment automatically:
To verify a partition is aligned, query it using /usr/bin/blockdev as shown below, if a '0' is returned, the partition is aligned
Is that not sufficient for your purposes?
