Menus slow/stuck during DVD playback

I've authored a DVD which works correctly in iDVD but when I burn it to a DVD and play it in a regular player, the menus "stick", display slowly or sometimes completely halt.
I've burned many discs before and never ran into a problem like this, although most of them have been of movies with much shorter runtimes.
Is this a known issue or something that can be worked around, or solved by upgrading?

Hi Jason
Can be so many things:
Some that comes to my mind.
How did You go about doing the DVD ?
1. free space on internal hard disc should be about or more than 25GB (Important)
2. I do a DiskImage (File/ down the menu) and burn it with Apple Disk Util tool or Toast™
AT AN AS SLOW speed as possibly eg. x1, x2 or x4 = LESS BURNINGs errors
3. I use high quality DVD Discs like Verbatim
4. I USE DVD-R Discs (not DVD+R or +/-RW)

I have a new HP elitebook 8460p and there is no sound during DVD playback. Is there a setting I may be able to change? Here is a list of things I've tried and pertinent information:
    - Confirmed all system mute settings are off (e.g., not muted)
    - Confirmed DVD works on other devices
    - DVD will not play sound in InterActual Player, Windows Media Player, or VLC Media Player
    - Picture is fine...just no audio
    - Running XP
    - All other system sounds work

  • Sleeps during DVD playback

Why does OS X.4 display go to sleep during Quicktime playback? It doesn't matter if I'm watching something through FrontRow, Quicktime, or the DVD player.
Specifically, when my MacBook is on battery power, my display sleep comes on within a few minutes. It dims first and then sleeps a short time later. All this is normal behavior EXCEPT I don't want it to sleep while playing a DVD. If I'm watching a DVD, sleep mode should never happen.
My other mac computers do the same thing but its less noticeable since the display sleep delay times are longer.
What settings am I missing or perhaps this is a bug?

I'm sorry my first post was too brief. I should have mentioned my settings before. I'm not a newbie looking for location of Energy Saver settings and I'm not quite sure why it should matter.
What possible combination of settings would allow the computer or display to sleep during DVD or Quicktime playback?
    Settings for: Battery
    Optimization: Normal
Reduce brightness for this power source- checked
    Reduce brightness before sleep- checked
It will never sleep if the mouse is moving regardless of Energy Saver settings, right? Why should the display ever be put to sleep during playback of a DVD? It's like the OS never recognizes DVD & Quicktime video playback as actively using the computer.
    Questions:
Does yours go to sleep during DVD playback?
    What settings are you using?
I suspect this is an OS X.4 bug as I've caught one of my PPC macs going to screen-saver in the middle of playing a Quicktime movie clip.
Thank-you for your help... I really appreciate it even if it sounds otherwise.

  • DR570KU no signal during dvd playback

JUST started to have the following issue: during playback of purchased dvd's the picture stops and on my NEW TV and I see "no signal". So far the only way to continue watching the dvd is to start the dvd over and fast forward to the point I lost the signal. From there the movie will continue on to completion. The unit is about 4 years old but has proven to be a excellent unit. The problem as mention JUST started, with in the last couple of weeks. All help is very much appreciated.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Gamer - hw ac-3 decode during DVD playback unsta

    hey,
I've set my audigy 2 zs gamer to decode ac-3 and dts for me, but there are some problems. When I use windvd 4, the audio lags a little and if I skip around, the sound stutters. If I use WMP0, which uses the installed ac3filter to pass ac-3 to the zs, skipping around will cause wmp to freeze and sometimes playback of both video and audio will be at an overly fast rate.
the nature of these problems leads me to suspect a dvd software problem, but if anyone else has gotten this to work well, please pass along your configuration.
    thanks,
    the_wolf_pak

AC3filter is not a really good software choice to pass AC3 streams to in-PC hardware.
The fact is that DVD softwares seems to modifies a bit the AC3 stream before outputing it. PowerDVD perfected its SPDIF output with one of the latest patch for the 5 version.
If sound is lagging with a software like that, verify your PC configuration (BIOS, DMA, drivers, ACPI config, etc).
    Also install reclock ( http://reclock.free.fr )
    and AC3DTS Xform ( http://inmatrix.osnn.net/ac3xform.exe ).

  • Buzzing audio out of left speaker only during dvd playback

Anyone else have this problem. I can play cds fine and all other audio sounds fine, but when i play a dvd i get a weird buzzing out of the left speaker. I should also note that it is not constant, it occurs with things such as loud voices and some music.

Now i can confirm that it happens in quicktime as well. Is this hardware or software related? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also, it isn't so much a buzzing as it is almost like an echo after some loud speach.

  • IMac powers off during DVD playback, why?

Right now, since the last update and my Applestore repair, by iMac powers off everytime I watch a DVD. Doesn't matter which player, I've tried Front Row, DVD Player, VLC, and Realplayer. It will play for 30seconds - 5minutes, and then power off. No error message.
My drive completely failed a few weeks ago, so I brought it to the Apple Store. They held it hostage for over a week and replaced the drive, the drive cable, and the "smart board" or whatever they called it. Upon return the drive works as expected... except this issue.
I run my business from my Mac so I want to make sure there isn't a simple way to fix this before I go back into the Apple Store (1 hour away).
    Any ideas??

  • Black border on DVD playback with external monitor...why?

    Hi all,
I've got a late 2011 MBP 13". Very happy with it (although use is limited as a DJ laptop - and, since I moved abroad, as the basis for a home cinema) and was quite happy to watch films / TV on it as it came. However, I wanted to be able to watch with other people and so have invested in an external monitor.
I have bought a Philips 23" V-line (model number 236V3L). I am completely happy with the picture quality etc but just have an issue during DVD playback:
The image (on fullscreen mode) has a 2" black border all the way round. I've tried fiddling with settings etc but can't seem to lose it...and don't know why. I wouldn't mind but obviously my 23" image is significantly smaller as a result.
Can anyone tell me why? When using the laptop in any other way (i.e. whilst typing this post) there is a 3/4" border on the left and on the right (but not at the top). Is it something to do with the aspect ratio? Is there anything I can do to fix it?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts...
    Regards,
    Fin

I use my laptop and a Samsung SyncMaster as my main screen and my MBP as the secondary. I can drag the DVD window to the laptop screen, and then put it in full screen mode. Here is where the problem lies: When I click any application on the primary monitor, the DVD screen shrinks back to normal size.
In DVD Player's "Full Screen" preference. enable "Remain in full screen when DVD PLayer is inactive".

  • Mirror 2 Mirror--vertical lines during DVD player playback on Monitor 2

I have a gateway 22 inch and a RCA TV 40 inch. When I mirror to the RCA durring dvd playback i will see lines ONLY on the DVD window. It slowly scrolls. If i DO NOT mirror and just move the Player over from the gateway screen to the RCA screen, the Lines do not appear during playback. I want to mirror for my clients to see my VIDEO work on the Large TV..but it looks poor when I have slow moving vertical lines. How can I fix this? The vertical lines are ONLY in the DVD player window..the desktop part does not have the lines scrolling.

Well, I tried that on a section, and I'm afraid it may have been worse than I had originally.  These are the settings in Compressor that I tried.  Am I still getting something wrong?

  • Dvd playback is slow

i have noticed that dvd playback is slow . i use vlc and kaffeine.if the dvd files are on hdd the playback is again slow.i have nvidia 630m optimus

    Hi
If this delay appears only playing the movies and audio using the CD/DVD drive then you should check this short workaround:
    1) Access the device manager
    2) Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI option
    3) go to Primary IDE channel -> Properties -> Advanced settings
    4) here you should check if DMA if available was chosen
If its not set to DMA if available then remove the Primary IDE channel from the device list and reboot the notebook.
After the notebook has booted again, check the single point again and check if DMA if available appears again

  • Freezing within DVD playback

Having searched many forums for a solution to freezing on DVD playback (particularly with DVD players older than about 4 years) without success, I have isolated the issue to layer separation in Encore when building.
The solution I have discovered to get around this is
    1. Create your video in Premiere Pro as normal.
    2. Export to hard drive using Adobe Media Encoder and set Multiplex to DVD, Bitrate encoding to CBR for better final quality.
    3. Import into Encore and create menus etc normally.
    4. Build as a DVD Image to your hard drive with the following settings, irrespective of your file size, set size to 4.7GB, this turns off the Layer break options. Then set size to "Custom"  then set custom size to slightly larger than you file. Make sure "side" is set to 1.
    5. Press "Build". This will build an *.iso file to your hard drive without a layer break being inserted.
    6. Import this file into DVD Shrink and shrink back to your hard drive as an *.iso file to fit a single layer DVD.
    7. Double click this file to automatically open and burn a DVD using Nero. Make sure burn speed is 4x or less.
    Good luck

    Bill,
    Thanks for posting your solutions.
I've found that three factors affect DVD playback most, and in this order:
1.) choice of media - Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are highly recommended. Falcon gets good reviews, but is/was only available in US. Have never used it.
2.) burn speed - slower is always better (as you point out). Luckily, Encore allows one to choose a slow burn speed, based on one's selection of media and also the capabilities of the burner. I always buy the slowest media, that Verbatim, or TY offer at the time. I want SLOW.
3.) keeping the bit-rate at about 7MB/s. This one gets debated a bit, and many have never had an issue at 8MB/s - YMMV
Now, my workflow is a tad different, as I always Export from PrPro as a DV-AVI Type II elemental stream (Video-only, no multiplexing obviously) and AC3 DD 5.1 SS Audio-only (or PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit, if I'm not doing 5.1 SS with the SurCode encoder). The DV-AVI is Imported into Encore as a Timeline, and the AC3 (or WAV) is Imported as an Asset. The Audio is dragged to the respective Timeline.
Unless I have some real need for bit-budgeting, I let Encore Transcode on Automatic. Even if one uses the above Assets and requires bit-budgeting, you can still set up the Transcoding manually, or can Export from PrPro as an MPEG-2 with the necessary settings. I strongly recommend not using any muxed files as Assets in Encore. Some will work, but many just flat fail.
So far, my method has yielded several hundred Projects with almost 2000 DVD's Burned. Not one has ever come back. Now, each Project gets checked with a DVD RW "test," and then the first DVD -R, or +R gets run through 5 different machines, plus the computer, before delivery, but still no returns, and some of my clients have some pretty old gear. For my testing, I use several brands of players and the models range from a pure esoteric down to a re-branded discount store cheapie. If it plays on all of these, I ship it out the door.
Appreciate the posting of your workflow,
    Hunt

  • IPod 5G Freezes during Video Playback

iPod freezes during video playback. Does anybody else have this problem?
Usually freezes up about 10 minutes into a video, and then complety locks up. This usually requires 2 to 3 restarts untill it comes back working properly.

Mine does the same. It really only happens to me when I try to navigate thru menus when video is playing. I usually have to do a forced Reset. I truly think that introducing video on the iPod was not ready for primetime as it is very sluggish, buggy and sensitive during playbabck of video. No problems with music whatsoever but I am frustrated with the very finicky video qualities of this thing.

  • Rolling title flicker in PE11 DVD playback

Hi. I'm a mostly successful user of PE11 for Mac (graduated unceremoniously from PE10). This question is about flickering despite the flicker filter being fully deployed. It seems this phenomenon is harder to suppress in PE11 than in 10?
Specifically... some JPEG and TIFF stills retain considerable flicker even on high anti-flicker setting. Some of these are 600 dpi+.  Should the dimensions of stills be a certain value?  If so, what?
A soft flicker along horizontal lines seems hard to suppress in video also. SD from Canon camcorder, 24 fps, transferred as mp4s, and dragged as such into the timeline. The flicker does not appear pre- or post-render but appears on late-model flatscreen TV when played back on DVD.  Could this be a DVD burn problem or even a TV problem?
Rolling titles created within PE11 appear to be flicker-filterable, but the flicker seems scarcely reduced on DVD playback (white titles, plain font, reasonable slow speed, abt 40 pitch).
Preset: NTSC, 16:9 (can provide more if needed)
I saw a similar post by a PC user from 2012 but the thread apparently died before it was resolved.
    Thanks a ton in advance!!
    Ric

    Ric
I am strictly an Elements Windows user, so I would ask some of the following questions from that perspective as I view your Premiere Elements Mac situation.
    a. Does your Premiere Elements have an Anti-Flicker slider (0 to 1.0) in
version 10: Properties Palette/Motion Panel expanded
version 11: Applied Effects/Motion Panel expanded
If so, have you used it for what you are calling flicker?
    b. Are your photos all from cameras? Are any freeze frames from video? If the latter, De-interlace may be in order.
    c. I have not run into rolling titles that filter so please describe how you are creating these rolling titles...Add Image, duration of title, font style, font size. How are you telling the different between the rolling title flickering versus what is below it in the tracks flickering? Or is there nothing below it?
    d. Something to look into
The flicker does not appear pre- or post-render but appears on late-model flatscreen TV when played back on DVD.  Could this be a DVD burn problem or even a TV problem?
If you play back a store purchased movie in DVD-VIDEO format on this TV, do you see this flicker?
    Just some thoughts for now.

  • Audigy 4 - low DVD playback vol

Hi guys, I need help in a simple matter. During DVD Movie playback with PowerDVD 6, I get very low volume when using the built-in Dolby Digital decoder the soundcard has. Voices have particularly very low volume levels. Maxing out the speaker volume won't help much. The player has been correctly configured to use SPDIF as the?speaker environment, and the speakers are set up in a 5. configuration in the Creative Speaker settings panel. The built-in decoder is activated in the Audio Console correctly. I have even tried using the ac3filter, but to no avail. Do I need an external amplifier? Or does the ac3filter need some configuration in order for it to work with the in-card decoder?I have an Audigy 4 OEM card that I use with the Logitech X-530 speakers. Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks.

I own a HP Pavilion dv6 7039tx Notebook.  The OS is Win 7 64bit. I made 4 partitions after formatting the 1TB HDD as the C drive would not reduce to the  40GB size I wanted through disk management.
It was working fine till now and then it suddenly got stuck during startup.
I talked to customer support and they said it was a OS problem and I should order a set of 6 Recovery DVDs. i want to know if using the HP recovery disk
    1) Has an option to repair the system and leaves the disk partition unchanged?
    2) It resets the notebook to factory condition?
    3) There is an option of recovery disk which I should specifically ask for?
